The bark is very useful in some cases. For instance, when I had my gallbladder attack, I was in so much pain I couldnt yell loud enough to get anyones attention upstairs, so I got Sawyer to bark and he woke everyone up so they could take me to the ER. The strange part was the bark he made, it was not his normal bark or any bark that Erin or I taught him, it was just one of those barks that everyone knew that something was wrong. So, the bark is very useful, especialy from a dog that doesnt usually bark. The way we taught Sawyer his normal bark was to just call/whisper his name repeatedly. My guess is is that the only reason he barked was to tell us to shut the hell up, youre annoying me. Or we would just get him really excited and praise/treat him when he made any kind of noise to start then eventually got to the point where we would only praise/treat a bark ...
There have been many studies investigating the effects of pine bark extract for treating erectile dysfunction. The results clearly indicate that this plant extract can play an important role in restoring healthy sexual function.. A study published in 2003 investigated the effects of pine bark extract on men with erectile dysfunction over a period of three months1. Conducted at a Bulgarian fertility clinic in Sofia, the cohort study involved 40 men aged 25 to 45. Each day the men took three vials containing the amino acid L-arginine and aspartic acid dipeptide. In a dipeptide, the amino acids are fixed to each other to make it easier for the body to absorb. The L-arginine content in the daily dose corresponded to 1,700 milligrams (mg).. In the second month of the study participants were also supplied twice daily with 40 milligrams of pine bark extract. The patented extract Pycnogenol was used.. This is extracted naturally from the bark of the Mediterranean pine. In the third month the daily dose ...

Abstract At a Mexican nursery, we compost pine bark, inoculate it with beneficial microorganisms, and use it to grow conifer seedlings in containers for reforestation. In this article, I describe how we make composted pine bark (CPB), a technically and economically viable alternative to expensive, imported growth substrates. CPB is easy to produce and can be made on a small scale, generating permanent nursery and reforestation jobs and promoting the stability of Mexican forest plantation companies. We have found that using CPB minimizes use of fungicides in the nursery. I discuss how to inoculate composted bark with bacteria (Bacillus spp.) and fungi (Trichoderma spp.) to enhance suppression of root disease organisms.. ...
3 years ago i started to have some serious back pain ,after an MRI ,i was diagnosed with 2 bulge discs on the lower back.. I was about to go for surgery , until a friend recommended to try some african tree bark. Within 4 days ,i had forgotten that i had back pain. My wife noticed that i was bending down to tie my shoe laces ,which i was not able to do before and even my knee pain was gone (arthritis). To be honest , it is even dangerous because I forget that I have a condition ,and I started lifting stuff and playing soccer again.. I drink the powder morning and night twice a week and its enough for the week.. Now , I havent had any side effects so far , but i do not know if it is good for me on the long term.. I want to have it tested by the FDA ,so i can recommend it to others safely.. Can someone help me with the process ?. I do not know where to start.. Thank you. SAM. ...
Description: These tools are used to remove the bark from tree stems and branches. I dont ever do this from a standing live tree, only if the tree has been cut down or the branches are removed. The large draw knife at the top of the photo is a traditional style, used to remove bark from tree trunks and larger branches. The middle one is for smaller branches. The lightweight stainless steel cleaver on the bottom is one I use the most. I like the weight and shape of it for medium and smaller branches and stems. With the draw knives, you grasp the two handles and pull (draw) the tool through the bark towards you. It is important to keep them sharp as it makes the job much easier. For medicine, the inner bark is used, so if there is a lot of outer bark (the corky bits) sometimes you initially remove the outer bark and then remove the inner bark. Debarking trees is a skill as there are often variations on how to remove the inner bark depending what type of tree it is. You can find the larger draw ...

Barking is one of many forms of communication for dogs. Some breeds of dogs have a tendency to bark more frequently than others. Barking is a complex behavior, meaning there are several reasons that your dog may bark. He may be barking to alert you that something or someone is approaching. He also may bark in order to obtain something such as a treat or attention. He may bark to tell you that he needs to go outside to go to the bathroom. Many dogs bark simply because they have been left alone and are frustrated, bored or anxious.. Like any behavior, a dog barks because they find the result of their barking to be rewarding. For example, your dog may bark repeatedly if they get anxious or upset when strangers enter their territory; like the postal carrier delivering the daily mail or children gathering at the end of the drive as they wait for the school bus. The dog barks and barks. "Intruder!!!" "Go away!!" Shortly thereafter the postal carrier and children leave, not because of your dogs ...

The Glossopteridales are an extinct group of seed plants that dominated Gondwanan floras during the Permian. Their remains are found across a wide range of habitats and paleolatitudes, and it is particularly interesting to understand the anatomical characteristics that might have enabled such an extensive distribution. Here, we document for the first time the bark anatomy of high-latitude glossopteridalean trees using peels and thin sections made from a Late Permian trunk from Skaar Ridge, Antarctica. The bark is 3 cm thick. The secondary phloem is composed of sieve cells, axial and ray parenchyma, and fibers arranged in discontinuous unicellular tangential layers. The outer bark is a rhytidome, with numerous alternating layers of periderm and non-conducting secondary phloem showing some proliferation of the axial parenchyma. Successive periderms mostly run parallel to the cambium, with some longitudinal undulation and rare connections between two periderms. A similar anatomy was observed in bark

Barking is one of several types of vocal communication by dogs. You may appreciate your dogs barking when it signals that someone is at your door or that your dog needs something. However, dogs sometimes bark excessively or at inappropriate times. Because barking serves many purposes, determine why your dog is doing it before attempting to address a barking problem. Does your dog use barking to get what he or she wants? For example, dogs that get attention for barking often learn to bark for food, play, and walks as well. Therefore, training your dog to be quiet on command is important so that you can teach your dog a different behavior (such as "sit" or "down") for getting what he or she wants. You have submitted photos of Giant Bark Aphids, Longistigma caryae, and here is what we learned about them on BugGuide: "This is the largest aphid in North America with adults averaging about 1/4 inch long. They also have long legs which makes them appear even larger. Males and some females are winged but egg laying females are wingless. They are brown with black markings (giving them somewhat of a mottled appearance) and have short, black cornicles. When alive they are often partially covered with a bluish white, waxy secretion. BugGuide continues: "Activity usually begins in late April in Oklahoma. An adult female gives birth to live young and a colony is formed on the underside of the branches of the host tree. Several generations occur during the summer and fall. Activity continues into mid-November in some years. Late in the fall females lay eggs in bark crevices or on the smooth bark of smaller limbs. The eggs are yellow when laid but later turn black. They are the overwintering stage." ...
In a sense, John McGlone was just like any other pet owner a few years ago. He simply wanted to keep his Cairn Terrier from barking incessantly. Then again, McGlone is not like most dog owners in that he is a professor at Texas Tech University who just happens to specialize in animal welfare and behavior. And, in that capacity, he just happened to have a product on hand at his house from a previous research study called Boar Mate, an odorous concoction which helps farmers with swine breeding. So, he gave one little spritz to his dog, Toto, and immediately the dog stopped barking. Right on the spot. "It was completely serendipitous," said McGlone, who works in Techs Department of Animal and Food Sciences. "One of the most difficult problems is that dogs bark a lot, and its one of the top reasons they are given back to shelters or pounds." Suddenly, an idea was born. After extensive testing and publishing of the results, and with funding help from Sergeants pet care products, Stop That was ...
I picked up my new foster Assistance dog on Thursday. His name is Senator and he seems like a very nice dog. He looks a lot like Dolly which was hard at first, but now were getting used to having a new dog. He has a different personality than Dolly. Hes not so afraid of things and not so inclined to jump on people. He does have his own set of issues however. He can be a barker at times which is totally unacceptable for an Assistance dog. He barks with a high pitch bark when he wants Callie to play or something from us. That is acceptable for now. However, he also barks at things outside with a lower pitched bark. This is not acceptable. Were working on this and he might be getting a bark collar which sprays citronella when he barks. Its actually kind of interesting to have a new set of problems. I get to learn a wider cross section of training. Part of getting him to quit barking might involve training him to bark on command and then training him to stop. Cool stuff. I didnt realize how much ...
My five-year-old Greyhound, Suki, has developed an annoying habit of barking to be let out in the early hours of the morning. This started a few months ago with the occasional request to go out for the toilet, as we thought. Gradually this has increased until she now barks roughly every other night. I have recently had to move away into rented accommodation for work reasons, and have had to leave Suki and my other dog Oscar (a nine-year-old crossbreed) at home with my parents. Since prior to this I was living at home with my parents, Suki and Oscar have always lived in my parents home and have not been disrupted by my move. While very much a people dog, Suki is not particularly attached to me personally, being happy with any family member, and since the barking first started just before I moved out, I doubt that it has any connection to my moving away. ...

3) Fri Jul 16 2004 16:36 MST: Ive been thinking about food. Why is it that we only eat certain parts of food (and Im not talking about not eating sheeps intestines)? This thought stems from (what else?) the labels Ive been scanning. We sell herb, bark (secondary bark, root bark, inner bark and just plain bark), blossoms, fruit, berries, leaves, hulls, flowers, resin, root, stalk, husks, seed, and micro-algae (ok, thats probably a "whole" food). Why is licorice root so much better than the leaves?. For example, in Romania, they sell (and eat, use etc) celery root, whereas here we only eat the stalk, which sometimes comes with leaves, but I dont think people use them. How wasteful we are! We dont eat corn silk, although it apparently has healing properties (we sell that too). Let me look it up... Its a diuretic.. Well, I dont really care. Just thinking.. PS: Are potatoes a root? ...

I know this is long already, but I have to share a funny story about the doggies (and frankly, I dont post about them much and feel guilty about that sometimes haha). John had his laptop at my parents house, and when we got back from pictures he was working on some church stuff. He left the laptop running downstairs, and came up briefly to look at a present idea for Judith. Little peanut needed a diaper change, so I had to run downstairs to get the wipes. Buster felt the need to follow me down, and next thing I know hes barking at something. Buster doesnt bark often (not like Lady, who will bark at a speck of dust floating by outside because it dared stray onto her turf), but when he does, its usually because he doesnt like something (like a cat, another dog, or a rabbit). I was upstairs, and his barking continued. My mom asked who was barking, and I said it was Buster! My grandmother couldnt figure out what he was barking at either; after a few more minutes of this, John finally called ...
