Within emergency medical services a medical director is a physician who provides guidance, leadership, oversight and continuous quality improvement (CQI) for the practice of local EMTs and paramedics within a predefined area. In North America, medical directors are typically board-certified in emergency medicine or pediatric emergency medicine. The medical director is generally responsible for either the creation of protocols for treatment by prehospital providers or providing leadership to the group of physicians who assist with the provision of medical oversight depending on which model of service delivery and which model of medical control are operating. The medical director may also assist the EMS agency in extending its scope of practice (where applicable by law). While this definition is a fair description of the role in North America, significant variations can occur in other countries and in other health care systems. Note: In the interest of clarity, medical directors exist in a variety ...

There are 2 basic options. First, the medical director can keep a log of his administrative hours and be compensated on an hourly basis (typically $100-$150 per hour). The other option is to pay the medical director a fixed monthly fee- this is usually based on number of beds. $500-1000 for a 4 bed lab and $750-$1500 for a 6 bed lab are typical salaries ...

RPI has developed powerful relationships with current and former payer medical directors who can assess your medical device technology and provide relevant feedback on what is required to establish positive coverage policies.. Our insight even extends to identifying when you should approach Payer Medical Directors for education. Approaching payers too early in the product life cycle can have detrimental effects like forcing a non-coverage policy. We have years of experience in the payer educational field and will advance your business with this industry knowledge.. By conducting focus groups that consist of former medical directors who give valuable insight, we are able to reveal potential problems early. Physician focus groups are a safe and efficient way for medical device manufacturers to get inside the payers head about a new technology or a procedure before arbitrarily misdirecting the investment of time and resources.. ...

Five of the new embryos grew in laboratory dishes to the stage that fertility doctors consider ready for transfer to a womans womb: a degree of development that clones of adult humans have never achieved before. No one knows whether those embryos were healthy enough to grow into babies. But the study leader, who is also the medical director of a fertility clinic, said they looked robust, even as he emphasized that he has no interest in cloning people. "Its unethical and its illegal, and we hope no one else does it either," said Samuel H. Wood, chief executive of Stemagen in La Jolla, whose skin cells were cloned and who led the study with Andrew J. French, the firms chief scientific officer. The closely held company hopes to make embryos that are clones, or genetic twins, of patients, then harvest stem cells from those embryos and grow them into replacement tissues. When transplanted into patients, the tissues would not be rejected because the immune system would see them as ...
Are you a design researcher, interaction designer, product owner, or other product-maker-type person? Have you used personas to represent your customers on at least one product youve been involved with?. Then you may have run across personas with names like: Harry Hobbyist, Denise Designer, "Jay Vah the Java Developer". You may even have created some of these personas yourself.. Stop that immediately.. Personas are stand-ins for real people. No real person has a name like "Harry Hobbyist". Youre not describing a real person, youre describing a role.. Theres nothing inherently wrong with describing roles. For some products, particularly those concerned with managing complex multi-person workflows, a role description might be an easier way to represent people who play a part in the product experience but who arent core users. In these cases, the depth and nuance of a proper persona may just get in the way.. But the whole point of personas is to go beyond roles - to recognize that a person is ...
The article reports chaos in a large health care company. After the creation of the accurate physician database, the decision was made to begin physician performance reports. ABRs Procurement Manager Perrin Larton reveals that preborn children are often delivered intact during abortion rather than actually aborted, saying: …I literally have had women come in and theyll go in the OR, and theyre back out in 3 minutes, and Im going Whats goin on? Oh yeah, the fetus was already in the vaginal canal whenever we put her in the stirrups, it just fell out. As CMP director David Daleiden has noted, children are very likely alive when they are delivered intact because no instrument or chemical is used to kill them prior to delivery. Intentionally delivering a live child during an abortion is a crime.. Katharine Sheehan, abortionist and longtime medical director at Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest, tells CMP undercover investigators that her abortion mill has been partnered with ABR for a decade: We have already a relationship with ABR. One of the major factors contributing to this epidemic is a systemic disconnect between primary care physicians and psychiatrists or therapists. In response to the damning report by the NASMHP, experts like Massachusetts state medical director Mary Ellen Foti suggest a nationwide move toward a better organized system of co-location whereby patients suffering from serious mental illnesses can receive physical examinations and treatments on or near the very same premises, making the process much more convenient and facilitating the crucial relationship between the two related practices. In order to better measure and contain the epidemic, they recommend increased tracking of mentally ill patients, maintaining a national health surveillance system specifically for psychiatric patients. They also believe that increased federal funding for concerns like smoking cessation weight reduction among the mentally ill population will ultimately reduce the number and severity of their cases, ultimately making ...

And this is just hypertension - a single, if important, condition. Consider how much more there is to remember across all of the major conditions.. The second reason why its hard for GPs to take on more specialist management (what I have called level 3 of what we know about a condition) is that specialists will be reluctant to let them do so. Specialists rely on their training to interpret what they see and make decisions. If the future model of care relies on them "letting" less-specialised colleagues perform what was "their" duties there will be an understandable degree of discomfort, if not open resistance.. I used to be the Medical Director of Map of Medicine, a company that produces clinical pathways to help local communities design services. I met countless local leaders - managers and clinicians - that wanted to redesign pathways so that GPs handled more patient care. The prevailing view seemed to be that by putting the information into a pathway, GPs would know what to do and ...

In case you missed it, Margaret Chan, MD, the director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), yesterday cautioned the world that the H1N1 pandemic is not over, even though youre not hearing as much about it in the media or around the watercooler. "It is too premature and too early for us to say we have come to an end of the pandemic influenza worldwide," Dr. Chan said at a press conference.. With much less attention being paid to H1N1 these days, Thrive asked Claire McCarthy, MD, a pediatrician and the medical director of Childrens Martha Eliot Health Center, if she thought families could stop worrying about the virus-and whether people should still get vaccinated if they havent already. Heres what she had to say: …. ...
Scott Schabel M.D., who serves as medical director at the Friendly Home, says the most striking change hes seen during his 25 years of taking care of elderly people in Rochester, is the change in dental care.. "When I started caring for elderly patients the majority of them had dentures. But guess what? They sold a lot of Crest toothpaste in the 1950s and today everybody has teeth," Schabel says, only half in jest. "Thats a remarkable example of how our evolution of all kinds of health care has dramatically changed peoples lives.". In addition, men are beginning to live longer, Schabel says, which changes the dynamic at nursing homes.. "Twenty-five years ago 95 percent of my nursing home patients were female, but with the advent of aspirin for heart disease and cardiologists that have all their fancy catheters, theyre able to keep men living much longer than they did just a short couple of decades ago," Schabel says. "So we now have a much more thriving male population in our various senior ...

My first week in Cange I met a peasant farmer who had brought a sick child to the hospital-by donkey, on a trek of 12 miles along Highway 3. I asked him if hed felt relieved when he got to Cange and the medical complex. I neednt have bothered. He looked surprised at the question and simply said, Wi. There were a handful of other clinics and hospitals in the region, but none were well-equipped and some were downright unsanitary, and everywhere patients had to pay for medicines, and even the gloves that would be used to examine them, and very few people in the central plateau could pay much of anything. At Zanmi Lasante, too, patients were supposed to pay user fees, the equivalent of about 80 American cents for a visit. Haitian colleagues of Farmers had insisted on this. Farmer was the medical director, but he hadnt argued. Instead-this was often his way, I would learn- he had simply subverted the policy. Every patient had to pay the 80 cents, except for women and children, the destitute, ...
In the mid-1990s, Evelyn Struthers lovingly cared for her husband while he lived with Parkinsons disease, and the experience inspired her to help others. She donated her time, and millions of dollars, to help the Methodist Hospital Parkinsons Center move to its own building and expand its services to become a nationwide model. After the move happened, she remained a devoted and hands-on volunteer at the Struthers Parkinsons Center.. "At age 85 she would be there in her little pink volunteer jacket with a nametag that said "Evie" feeding people lunch and wiping their mouths and leading them to their next activity," said Dr. Martha Nance, the centers medical director. "No one had any idea that this was the person for whom this building was named.". Struthers, of Minneapolis, died at 97 with her family at her bedside at Methodist Hospital on Oct. 29.. She was born in Dunn, N.C., graduated from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, and taught physical education for several years in ...

Its happened again.. A friend of mine, a patient of Damansara Womens Specialist Centre, was almost shoved into another C-section (this is her second pregnancy - her first was a pair of twins), had she not persevered against this dangerous trend towards elective surgery propogated by fear and driven by profit in private healthcare institutions.. Lia says she will be posting a detailed account of her experience soon, where she was pushed to go for a Cesarean only two hours after she was induced (the standard is six hours). Her gynae was the famous Dr Colin Lee, Medical Director of Damansara Fertility Centre and a Consultant, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist for the Damansara Womens Specialist Centre.. For the uninitiated, a Cesarean is where the baby is delivered via an incision made in the mothers abdomen and uterus. From personal experience, this is a painful, irreversible surgery that causes much inconvenience after birth and, I feel, contributes significantly towards a womans will to ...

So the new rule actually creates a disincentive for using the drug that has been estimated to save Medicare $1.5 billion each year in treating macular degeneration alone, said William Rich, MD, the medical director for health policy at the AAO. The AAO and other ophthalmology organizations immediately started negotiating for a change that would reflect compounding charges, he said. One argument for the new rule is that CMS cannot legally pay for pharmacist costs, but thats not true, according to Rich, who said it is allowed for some asthma and pain management treatments ...

I started a new thread because I dont know where I posted what information. A recap on our situation: In July, after a little over 2 years on Temodar with clear MRIs, David had 2 seizures. MRI done in ER showed "disease progression." That means tumor growth. Our NO at OHSU wanted David to be a par t of his Blood Brain Barrier Disrupter clinical trial but the insurance co. denied it the day before we were scheduled to start. There apparently are no funds left for that clinical trial due to all the cutbacks. That really was a devastating blow to all of us, but especially to David. He said he felt like it was his death certificate. Hes never talked like that before. Anyway, we appealed and our doctor personally called the medical director of the ins. company, we contacted a lobbyist, the governors advocacy people, the news stations, OHSUs advocates....but its still "NO". In the meantime, my family members did internet searches and contacted everyone they could think of, and one of them found ...

You probably try to limit the amount of the dreaded "s" word you have in your life: Stress. After all, its been linked to weight gain, heart attacks, hair loss and more. Theres even been some buzz about the creation of a vaccine on the distant horizon that can protect your brain from the effects of stress. However, theres plenty of research that finds stress may actually be good for you. "Stress is a very healthy thing, because it gives you the energy you need to live life," says Jacob Teitelbaum, MD, medical director of the national Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Centers and Chronicity and author of Real Cause, Real Cure. "Without it, you wouldnt have the energy you need to take action." Consider adrenaline junkies who seek out stressful situations in order to reap a physical and emotional high. Those anxious feelings trigger a fight-or-flight response that releases cortisol and adrenaline for a surge of energy that pushes you to react when you need to (such as moving fast if youre about to be ...
