Here we describe the use of 3D bioprinting techniques to fabricate skin equivalent tissues of varying physiological complexity, including human epidermis, non-vascularized and vascularized full-thickness skin tissue equivalents, in a multi-well platform to enable drug screening. We present an experimental and theoretical study of passively mode-locked fiber soliton lasers. Our theoretical analysis based on perturbation theory describes the soliton interactions that occur when pulse bunches form. Our results indicate that the nonsoliton component emitted by the propagating solitons causes small changes of the central frequency of individual solitons, and the strength and the sign of this interaction between the soliton and dispersive waves depend on their mutual phase as well as on the soliton position within the soliton bunch. For a certain phase difference between the solitons and the nonsoliton component the interaction force becomes repulsive for all solitons within a soliton bunch and results in an almost uniform distribution of the pulses inside the laser cavity. In order to improve the commercial prospects of large-scale microalgal culture, I am investigating the potential for algal-bacterial consortia to reduce contamination by adventitious bacteria and improve the stability and productivity of algal cultures. Utilising a model algal-bacterial symbiosis between the green alga Lobomonas rostrata and the rhizobial bacterium Mesorhizobium loti, I have investigated the role of bacteria in the phycosphere and the effects of bacteria on algal growth. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) was used to examine the pattern of activity of prefrontal cortex in prepubertal children during performance of a nonspatial working memory task. The children observed sequences of letters and responded whenever a letter repeated with exactly one nonidentical letter intervening. In a comparison task, subjects monitored similar sequences of letters for any occurrence of a single, prespecified target letter. Location of activation closely approximated that observed in a recent fMRI study with adults using exactly the same task. Activation of the inferior and middle frontal gyri was reliably observed within individual subjects during performance of the working memory task relative to the comparison task. Activation increased and decreased with a time course that was highly consistent with the task manipulations and correlated with behavioral performance. This study aims to numerically investigate a two dimensional and steady heat transfer over a cylinder in a porous medium with suspending nanoparticles. Buongiorno model is adopted for nanofluid transport on a free convection flow taking the slip mechanism of Brownian motion and thermophoresis into account. The Boussinesq approximation is considered to account for buoyancy. The boundary layer conservation equations are transformed into dimensionless and then elucidated using a robust Keller-box implicit code numerically. The numerical results are displayed graphically and deliberated quantitatively for various values of thermo-physical parameters. Our results shows that, increasing the Forchheimer parameter, Λ, clearly swamps the nanofluid momentum development, decreases the flow for some distance near the cylinder viscous region, later it reverses the trend, and asymptotically reaches the far field flow velocity.
