Lets say we have a set of samples each consisting of a certain number of features. Further lets assume each sample belongs to a particular class. Logistic regression is about predicting which class a particular sample belongs to based upon its features. Here is a visual representation of this concept: We store the set of features for each sample in a matrix, the columns represent different features, the rows represent different samples. Basic deep learning classifiers used for medical images often produce global labels. While annotation for localized disease detection might be costly, the knowledge of prevalence of conditions in different anatomical areas can help improve the accuracy by limiting the classifier to relevant areas. However, this improvement provided by context knowledge, is usually offset by the errors of the segmentation map used to isolate the area of interest. This paper proposes a framework for disease classification consisting of a segmentation network, a segmentation quality assessment network, and two separate classifiers on whole image and relevant segmented area. The quality assessment network controls the impact of the two disease classifiers on the final outcome, utilizing the masked image only when segmentation is acceptable. We show that in a very large dataset of chest X-ray images, this framework produces a 2% increase in the area under ROC curve for classification compared to a baseline ...

Intrapulmonary arteriovenous anastomoses (IPAVs) are large diameter connections that allow blood to bypass the lung capillaries and may provide a route for right-to-left embolus transmission. These anastomoses are recruited by exercise and catecholamines and hypoxia. Yet, whether IPAVs are recruited via direct, oxygen sensitive regulatory mechanisms or indirect effects secondary to redistribution pulmonary blood flow is unknown. Here, we hypothesized that the addition of exercise to hypoxic gas breathing, which increases cardiac output, would augment IPAVs recruitment in healthy humans. To test this hypothesis, we measured the transpulmonary passage of 99mTc-macroaggregated albumin particles (99mTc-MAA) in seven healthy volunteers, at rest and with exercise at 85% of volitional max, with normoxic (FIO2 = 0.21) and hypoxic (FIO2 = 0.10) gas breathing. We found increased 99mTc-MAA passage in both exercise conditions and resting hypoxia. However, contrary to our hypothesis, we found the greatest 99mTc-MAA

It appears to be quite intuitive that if we combine the power of different classifiers on the same dataset, then the performance of the combined models should be better as compared to using these classifiers alone. But this method works only if the predictions from the individual classifiers are uncorrelated (independent) and the performance of the individual classifiers is at-least better than random guess (for a binary classifier, accuracy , 50%, for N classes, 1/N).. Training and testing a model on the same data is a biased way of seeing how well it works. However, its good for a first pass. The first test uses a Naive Bayes Classifier on training data consisting of a train number and track number. The figure below shows a confusion matrix. The left side is by individual tracks and shows some structure, for example: trains that go to Track 2 get predicted to track 1,3&4. Since Penn Station is designed in such a way that consecutive tracks have the same entry way for passengers, these can be grouped (right side). Looks like one can stand in a particular area (between the doors for Track 1-2/3-4) and have a good success at being the first ones in.. The accuracy by train line is listed in the table below. Im pleased to say we now have a beta map of locations available specifically for the purpose of OSM mappers looking at it to find cases where OSM data is missing or incorrect.
