Purpose: Low-dose metronomic chemotherapy treatments, especially when combined with dedicated antiangiogenic agents, can induce significant antitumor activity without serious toxicity in various preclinical models. It remains unclear, however, whether some cytotoxic drugs are better suited for metronomic regimens than others. Paclitaxel appears to be a strong candidate for metronomic chemotherapy given its ability to inhibit endothelial cell functions relevant to angiogenesis in vitro at extraordinarily low concentrations and broad-spectrum antitumor activity. Clinically relevant concentrations of the formulation vehicle cremophor EL in Taxol, however, were previously reported to nullify the antiangiogenic effect of paclitaxel, the result of which would hamper its usefulness in metronomic regimens. We hypothesized that ABI-007, a cremophor EL-free, albumin-bound, 130-nm form of paclitaxel, could potentially alleviate this problem.. Experimental Design: The antiangiogenic activity of ABI-007 ...

Towing notice . In recent years, the League has learned from credit unions about significant problems involving the failure to receive notice from tow yards when a vehicle on which a credit union has a lien is towed. Often, the tow yard racks up hundreds of dollars in storage and towing fees before a credit union knows the vehicle has been towed. A few years ago, the League worked with others to require a notice be sent to lienholders of record when a tow yard (or other mechanics lienholder) intends to sell a vehicle to enforce its mechanics lien. It was the understanding of all involved that a notice also was required to be sent to lienholders within 3 days of the vehicle being towed in the first place. Unfortunately, it appears that it remains common for a tow yard to notify only the owner of the vehicle (and not a lienholder) of the initial tow. The League intends to pursue another change in the statute to make clear that the initial tow notice is also required to be sent to lienholders of ...

The movement of vehicles on the street also results in resuspension of road dust. Emissions also occur as a result of tyre wear and brake lining wear. Although there is a lack of data, it is expected that most of these particles will be in the size range 3 to some 30µm. The chemical composition of these particles may also be very different from those derived from combustion. The road dust deposit available for resuspension comes from mechanical wear of, and dirt on, vehicles (incl. tyre and brake lining wear), debris from loads on vehicles, influx of soil material etc. ...

How about this: a surcharge on alcohol purchases at bars... or maybe even a mandatory cover charge? In order to eliminate bar-hopping, all bars do the same thing and tie in to a database of sorts, using state ID as a means to connect the activities of one person to many bars. A cover charge at one bar does not mean a cover charge at another bar cannot be incurred and likewise does not affect drink surcharges either. However, its not a tax, per-se (more later). The amount charged would be a combination of a predetermined and negotiated cost to transport via taxi an individual to any location with a 10 mile radius and the cost to transport and store a vehicle to a location similarly located, or should the establishment have sufficient room to store vehicles on premise, the average daily cost of 2 armed guards to patrol and protect vehicles stored on premise based on attendance at the establishment for the period extending 3 months previous the current month ...
The rules about lane markings and stopping distances are similar in New Zealand. "A driver must not drive a vehicle on a road that is not marked in lanes at such a speed that the driver is unable to stop in half the length of roadway that is visible to the driver." Clause 5.9 (2) Land Transport (Road User) Rule 2004. Since this road rule is very similar to the German road rule it probably means the rule is applicable in most countries. I think this also means that the road has a single traffic lane, no matter how wide the road is. Often, New Zealand roads are surveyed to be 20 metres wide from property boundary to property boundary but often more than two thirds of the road reserve is taken up with footpaths, parking, grass berms, decorative trees, utility poles and the like, leaving a carriageway that is barely wide enough for 2 vehicles to pass, so it makes sense to be able to stop in half the visible roadway, if no lanes are marked, because any oncoming vehicle is probably travelling in the ...
Earlier this year, more than 50,000 off-highway vehicle enthusiasts gathered at the Johnson Valley Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Recreation Area in California for the seventh annual King of the Hammers. The event, known as the ultimate desert race, has evolved from 12 teams racing for bragging rights to more than 150 competing teams. Johnson Valley is the largest OHV area in the United States and draws at least 200,000 visitors annually while generating at least $260 million each year for the national economy. During the King of the Hammers event, racers take advantage of the areas unique geography to race "Ultra 4" vehicles on a dry lakebed at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour and rock crawl through challenging boulder fields. This year, Congressman Paul Cook (R-CA) attended this important event in his home district and addressed a standing-room-only crowd at the drivers meeting.. ...

Nearly every vehicle on the road today is powered by some version of the four-stroke internalcombustion engine patented by Nikolaus Otto in 1876 (right). Otto exploited the findings of French physicist Sadi Carnot, who in 1824 showed that the efficiency of an engine depends critically on the temperature differential between a hot "source" of energy and a cold "sink." The four-stroke engine compresses an air-fuel mixture and ignites it with a spark, thus creating a fleeting but intense source of heat. Its portable efficiency has not been matched since. Yet some consider the internal-combustion engine an anachronism, a dangerously out-of-date vestige of a world that assumed oil was unlimited and the climate stable. The best hope for displacing the engine appears to be an electric motor powered by an energy store such as chemical batteries or a hydrogen-powered fuel cell. What many forget is that electric vehicles had their chance-indeed, they were far more popular than gasoline-powered cars in the ...
Technology is changing every aspect of our lives - from culture to business, from science to design. The breakthroughs and innovations, new ways of thinking, new connections, and new industries we come across in daily life is more than amazing.. A latest report in wired.com illuminates us on how car hacking can play havoc in highways with its potential to manipulate multiple vehicle on highways create accidents of unimaginable dimensions. A car hackers full arsenal includes functions that at lower speeds fully kill the engine, abruptly engage the brakes, or disable them altogether. This can even cut the vehicles brakes make it skid, collide and crash.. Dummy experiment. In a dummy experiment conducted by security experts using this hacking technology, a jeep running at 70 mph on the edge of downtown was taken over by the hackers. Though the driver had not touched the dashboard, the vents in the Jeep Cherokee started blasting cold air at the maximum setting, chilling the sweat on the drivers ...
by Nicole Martins. Looking outside and seeing the number of vehicles on the road, we are reminded of just how important transportation is in our daily lives: Driving takes us to work, to a doctors appointment or to the store, to pick up a bag of groceries. And it is with these daily tasks and pleasures, that each of us is able to lead an independent life. Yet for an individual with a physical disability, the ability to go and purchase a standard vehicle, and drive away, is generally not an option.. However, thanks to great technological advances, and with the aid of special adaptive equipment and/or modification, an individual who desires to drive, may, be able to so. The question you may ask is: are there services and organizations out there designed to help you. The answer is yes. To take a closer look, let s look at what a Driver Rehabilitation Specialist (DRS) does, and also the organization behind a Driver Rehabilitation Specialist: ADED, or the Association for Rehabilitation Drivers ...

We are sincerely grateful the President is making good on his promise to require EPA to issue a rule allowing E15 access to the market year-round. We also enormously appreciate the leadership of Iowa Senators Joni Ernst and Chuck Grassley for their unwavering support of the farmers, retailers, and biofuel producers who have pushed for this common-sense change for many years. Once a final rule is in place and retailers can sell E15 year-round, it will help create additional demand for farmers who are suffering from oversupplies and low crop prices. "E15 is a low-cost, high-octane fuel EPA-approved as safe to use in 90 percent of all vehicles on the road today, so the beneficiaries of this positive step go beyond farmers and retailers to consumers who would have the opportunity to save money every time they fill up at the pump. "The Presidents decision will not prevent Big Oil from stonewalling year-round E15, so we encourage Acting EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler to expeditiously publish a ...
The Finnish hydrogen roadmap, compiled by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and partly funded by the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (Tekes), assesses the export opportunities that can be available to Finnish businesses through international development. NEW DURHAM - A 29-year-old Somersworth man involved in a rollover accident on Route 11 Thursday afternoon remains in good condition at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center as of Friday night.Officials at the medical center say that Matthew Day is still a patient at the facility. Day was airlifted to the hospital on Thursday after his 2007 Ryder truck struck the rear-end of a westbound vehicle on Route 11, causing him to roll over several times and take out two utility poles before coming
It always amazes me that anyone could drive any form of vehicle on a mountain. The snow cats that groom the ski trails in the winter, and the nerve of their drivers, are sources of amazement for me. And what does it say about the hard-working nature of Vermonters that these guys were up and out on the mountain working at that hour on a Sunday? Just after they passed us I looked back up the trail and there was an ENORMOUS moose; the biggest I have ever seen, standing just up the slope. No horns so I guess it was a female. She was staring at me and Maisy and I thought I was best advised to beat it. Maybe she had a baby around and while I havent heard that female moose are aggressive I didnt want to take a chance, especially if Maisy took it into her head to bark around the mooses ankles. Time to get down the hill. I am actually getting nervous about meeting a bear on my hikes. I have only seen one at a distance once, and not on Jay Peak. They are there, however, and bears around here have been ...

(AP) - A young man shot a woman to death in a home early Tuesday then went on a spree of carjackings and random shootings across Orange County that left two more people dead and three others wounded before the gunman killed himself, authorities said. The gunman was only described as being in his 20s, and his motive was not known, according to officials of at least four agencies investigating multiple crime scenes. The shootings began at 4:45 a.m. when deputies responding to a call found the woman shot multiple times in a house in Ladera Ranch, about 55 miles southeast of Los Angeles. Reports indicated the gunman also opened fire at other vehicles on a freeway. Later, a pickup truck taken by the carjacker began to run out of gas, so he stopped at State Route 55 and McFadden Avenue in Santa Ana, city police Cpl.
Earlier this year I stumbled across economists projections that there will be 2 billion motor vehicles on the roads by 2030. We passed one billion some time around 2010. So the car population will double within 20 years. Maybe the scariest part of this is that those economists seem to think that this is a good thing, and how lovely that people will have to buy fuel for those (because the vast majority will still run on fossil fuels!) and what opportunities that will bring for economic growth. Well, put that together with the facts that nearly all Diesel cars emit more than they are allowed to, the ongoing scandal of VWs emission test cheating, and that people in cities like London are actually dying prematurely due to this pollution, and the road building that destroys the rest of the natural environment left on this planet, and all that gets me quite angry enough to write a couple of thousand words in a few hours. For comic relief I have thrown in a photo from last years World Naked Bike ...

Its tough to think of a more comforting, nurturing car than the Camry Hybrid XLE, which, as tested, had a price of $31,483. Driving this car is as predictable as spring following winter. All the controls are just where you expect them to be. The interior is comfortable and roomy. Steering has improved, and the car wanders far less than Camrys used to back in the day.The fit and finish is solid. So, Camry Hybrid will soothe you, ease your mind and give you way less stress than just about any mid-sized vehicle on the market. The styling is pleasant, and resembles sedan design philosophy that has been around for ages. Nothing wrong with that--and Camry sales make that point better than anything we could say. Moreover, the Camry is built like a tank and tomb quiet inside and out, and then theres the reliability story. Its real, and its a huge point in Camrys favor. And apparently, Consumer Reports, the respected consumer guide, agrees with that view. The esteemed magazine predicts that the ...
