Methods: : Seventy-three patients underwent vitrectomy followed by phacoemulsification at a later date for various retinal disorders. Methods: : This is a retrospective, parallel case review involving a 66-year-old man with significant cardiac comorbidities, including congestive heart failure (CHF) with an ejection fraction of 30%, who underwent two separate PCE procedures one month apart. OBJECTIVES Evaluation of pain during and after phacoemulsification with topical anesthesia in patients with senile cataract and investigation of factors related with pain. MATERIALS AND METHODS Ninety-two adult patients scheduled for routine clear corneal phacoemulsification with topical anesthesia who had no previous cataract surgery in their fellow eyes were included in the study. Verbal pain scale and visual analog scale were used to measure pain intensity. Demographic characteristics, concomitant systemic diseases, drug consumption, need of additional anesthesia during surgery, surgical complications, duration of surgery and surgeon comfort were also evaluated for each patient. RESULTS Seventy-two patients (78.3%) reported pain during surgery and 68 patients (73.9%) reported pain in the period after the surgery. To compare reduction in intraocular pressure (IOP) and gain in visual acuity (VA) following phacotrabeculectomy (PT) and phacoemulsification(phaco) in Tanzanian patients with primary open angle glaucoma(POAG). CCBRT Hospital, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Within-person observational cohort study. Within each patient, one eye had PT and the other phaco. Patients were followed for up to 5-1/2 years, and IOP and VA in each eye were assessed. For a small group of patients, two additional postoperative time points were compared. 52 patients (34 male) with a mean age of 70 years (SD 8 years) were enrolled in the study. For those with 250 days or more follow-up, both operations resulted in lower IOPs and improved VA (p<0.001). The mean number of pressure-lowering medications used by the patients fell from 1.32±0.48 to 0.84±0.89 (p=0.046). In 42% of patients, no antiglaucoma medications were used at the end of follow-up. We observed 19 patients with postoperative macular edema after phacoemulsification. Optical coherence tomography was performed before phacoemulsification, when macular edema was diagnosed, in three weeks and in two months after treatment. Аll patients received postoperatively topical antibiotic for 1 week and corticosteroid for 5 weeks. The patients were devided into two groups.
