Background: Nurses and other healthcare workers are at risk for adverse health consequences from occupational exposure to hazardous drugs. Objectives: An evidence-based program for nurses was implemented to improve safe handling practices and reduce exposure to hazardous drugs. Methods: A quasiexperimental design was used, with pre- and post-tests of knowledge about chemotherapy exposure and pre- and post-test observations of compliance with donning and doffing personal protective equipment (PPE). Surface wipe tests were conducted to determine hazardous drug contamination in care areas. A toolkit of interventions, including hazardous drug identification, standardization of PPE, and education, was used. Findings: Mean knowledge scores of chemotherapy improved after education. A quasi-experimental design and multiple regression analysis were used to examine responses of 153 preservice general and special education teachers as a function of (a) participation in an introductory special education course and (b) viewing a co-teaching video (Friend, 2005) versus observing an inclusive classroom. Based on responses to pre- and post-measures (30 test-bank items, Mastropieri & Scruggs, 2010; Preservice Inclusion Survey, Shippen, Crites, Houchins, Tamsey, & Simon, 2005; and Teacher s Sense of Efficacy Scale, Tschannen-Moran, & Woolfolk Hoy, 2001), results showed participants knowledge, attitudes, and sense of efficacy increased significantly from pre-to post-course survey (p , .001). The current National Initial Standards for Physical Education Teacher Education state that preservice teachers should achieve and maintain a level of health-related fitness consistent with that expected of K12 learners. However, little research has addressed the relevance of teacher fitness to effective physical education teaching. This study examined the relationship between teacher fitness and movement competence, based on the important role of motor competence in performing effective demonstrations of movement skills to learners. Preservice teachers (N = 115) were tested on their muscular strength/endurance, flexibility, body composition, and several gymnastics skills. Gymnastics performance was directly and significantly correlated with muscular strength/endurance after controlling for previous gymnastics experience. The prevalence of pediatric obesity continues to grow. The role of the pediatric primary care provider in the assessment and early identification of overweight children is paramount to appropriate intervention. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to evaluate the effectiveness of an evidence-based initiative on the behaviors of pediatric practitioners in a primary care setting. The Healthy Eating and Activity Together (HEAT) initiative from the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners was utilized as the clinical practice guideline. Attitudes regarding clinical practice guidelines were also explored. The project was introduced in two phases within a single pediatric practice using a modified stepped wedge design. However, many children and adults, even those who execute arithmetic procedures correctly, may lack this knowledge on some operations and types of numbers. To test this hypothesis, we presented preservice teachers (Study 1), middle school students (Study 2), and math and science majors at a selective university (Study 3) with a novel direction of effects task with fractions. On this task, participants were asked to predict without calculating whether the answer to an inequality would be larger or smaller than the larger fraction in the problem (e.g., "True or false: 31/56 * 17/42 , 31/56"). The feedback provided to teachers by their supervisors, in preservice and in-service settings, is considered to be essential to teacher learning. Incorporating video records into these mentoring sessions has been shown to trigger the cognitive dissonance needed to help teachers explore the gaps between their intentions and their actual behaviors. However, while preservice teachers are increasingly asked to examine their teaching practice via video, their supervisors are not engaging in a parallel examination of their supervisory practice. Thus, university-based clinical supervisors who carry out critical conversations with teacher candidates do so without reflection about how they are performing in those conferences. METHODS: All 129 in-hospital CPRs during 12 months at a 122-bed university childrens hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil, were described and evaluated using Utstein reporting guidelines.
