Gadolinium uptake from MRI orbit represents implant vascularization. They will be taken in axial, coronal and sagittal plane with standard protocol MRI study. In T1-weighted post contrast image, an equatorial image will be identified. The equatorial image was defined as the image at the level of implant size divided by two, measured from the anterior surface. Two independent observer will mark between contrast and non-contrast area. Then area of enhancement was calculated by subtracting non-enhancement area from total equatorial surface area ...
TY - JOUR. T1 - Hard palate-dermis fat composite graft for reconstruction of contracted anophthalmic socket. AU - Choi, Catherine J.. AU - Tran, Ann Q.. AU - Tse, David T.. PY - 2018/1/1. Y1 - 2018/1/1. N2 - Purpose: To describe a novel technique of using a hard palate-dermis fat composite graft (HPDFG) for reconstruction of a contracted anophthalmic socket. Methods: Retrospective, noncomparative, interventional case series of four patients who underwent HPDFG placement by one surgeon between 2010 and 2017. Results: Six harvested HPDFGs were placed in four patients with contracted anophthalmic sockets. A harvested hard palate graft (HPG) and a dermis fat graft (DFG) were adjoined with sutures to form a composite graft. All adhesions and symblephara between the eyelid and the anterior surface of the anophthalmic socket were lysed. The HPG component was attached to the tarsal margin to vertically lengthen the eyelid. The free edge of the DFG was sutured to the cut edge of the bulbar conjunctiva to ...
The present invention relates generally to a method for continuous color mapping of nonscalar data. Moreover, the method for continuous color mapping of non-scalar data comprises mapping both single-component and multicomponent nonscalar data whereby the single-component and multicomponent nonscalar data can be uniquely displayed separately or combined by chromatic vector addition and uniquely displayed concurrently. More partiuclarly, the present invention provides a method for producing separate, continuous color displays of seismic data as well as a method for combining multiple sets of seismic data, by vector chromatic addition, to uniquely display two or more sets of seismic data concurrently.
Monday, January 22, 2007. Press release from the issuing company. A new dynamic color control module for KBAs DensiTronic S densitometry and spectrophotometry system can reduce ink-related start-up waste by as much as 80 per cent, and speeds up ink-key settings into the bargain. With conventional control systems, the specified densities for each ink key and inking unit are set at different times. Where image area coverage is 40 to 100 per cent, ink density is stable after 80 to 120 sheets, so no acceleration is needed. But where coverage is less than 5 per cent, the slowest ink key takes very much longer to run up to target. Since every color is normally of equal importance, the slowest ink key more or less dictates the quality of the image delivered. With dynamic color control, the low-coverage areas are initially overinked, which cuts the time-frame required to achieve the specified density. Even with an area coverage of less than 5 per cent the target range can be reached in just 120 sheets. ...
Background and Purpose: Shear stress is one of the important physical factors in the process of atherosclerosis. However, noninvasive and in-vivo visualization of shear stress distribution along the coronary lumen has been technically difficult, because it is not so possible to assess true three-dimensional (3D) geometrical structure as well as local flow profile in coronary artery for each patient. Recent technology of multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) can provide an accurate representation of 3D architecture of coronary lumen as well as plaque distribution. This study was to develop a noninvasive way of color mapping of shear stress in coronary artery using a 64-row MDCT, and to preliminarily evaluate its clinical feasibility.. Methods: Three-dimensional geometric architecture from patients with mild coronary artery disease was first obtained to develop a 3D mesh polygon model of each left and right coronary artery architecture. The mesh data was then used to perform a shear stress ...

When the tumor patterns are fractal, insertion of an orbital implant at disorders time of enucleation appears to thyroxine disorders appropriate except when there is a strong likelihood of residual tumor in the orbit. 17. Moreover, the userвs interaction can be accommodated in a straightforward manner by allowing thyroxine disorders user to specify some points through the desired contour evolution.
6ESC Group/Hamilton Sundstrand (Received October 31, 2006; Revised December 31, 2006; Accepted January 5, 2007; Online published February 12, 2008) Abstract: In 2004, Asteroid 25143 Itokawa made its final close approach to the Earth prior to its encounter with the Japanese spacecraft Hayabusa. This apparition was superb with Itokawa reaching magnitude 12 (two magnitudes brighter than the 2001 apparition and the brightest since its discovery in 1998) and covering a large range of observable solar phase angles. An extensive visible and near-infrared observing campaign of Itokawa was undertaken at Las Campanas and Lowell Observatories to obtain full rotational coverage and cover the largest possible range of solar phase angles (4-129°). Unresolved global color mapping over the complete light curve (best fit synodic period of 12.118 hr) shows no sign of rotational color variability with upper limits of a few percent across the full U-thru-K spectrum. These combined multi-wavelength (UBVRIJHK) ...

Purpose:. Primary aim:. Three dimensional volumetric assessment of the changes in orbital soft tissues in patient with post-enucleation socket syndrome, using the new 16-slice multi-detector computed tomography scanner.. Background:. Post-enucleation socket syndrome (PESS - enophthalmos, superior sulcus deformity, ptosis or upper eyelid retraction and lower eyelid laxity1) is a well recognized late complication of enucleation surgery. The underlying pathophysiology, however, has not been well established. It is especially prominent when there is inadequate orbital volume replacement or contraction of the socket.2. Superior sulcus deformity (Fig.1) manifests as a deep groove or space between the upper eyelid and the superior orbital rim. In a review by Smerdon and Sutton, it was the only significant factor related to poor cosmetic satisfaction.3 It was suggested that the loss of orbital volume and relaxation of tissues were the causes.4. With the advance in orbital implant development, most ...
In the unfortunate instance when a patient looses his eye due to trauma, infection, congenital deformity or acquired disease, our goal is to provide a normal appearing ocular prosthesis with good motility. In recent years the use of the porous spherical implant has markedly improved results and decreased the complication rate associated with orbital implant surgery.. The two most common porous implant materials include: hydroxyapatite and polyethylene. These substances are commonly wrapped in autologous (patient s own) tissue or donor tissue and implanted into the orbit once the eye has been removed. The extraocular muscles are then attached to the tissue to provide normal motility to the implant. Once the tissue swelling resolves, the patient is fitted for a prosthetic eye.. Preoperative Evaluation. Patients who are referred for possible enucleation must undergo a complete eye examination. The unaffected eye is examined with the biomicroscope, visual acuity is measured, eye movement is ...
Results: Seventeen potentially eligible RCTs were identified but only six trials with 138 patients in total could be included. The following techniques were compared in the six included studies: flapless placement of dental implants versus conventional flap elevation (2 trials, 56 patients), crestal versus vestibular incisions (1 trial, 10 patients), Erbium:YAG laser versus flap elevation at the second-stage surgery for implant exposure (1 trial, 20 patients), whether a connective tissue graft at implant placement could be effective in augmenting peri-implant tissues (1 split-mouth trial, 10 patients), and autograft versus an animal-derived collagen matrix to increase the height of the keratinised mucosa (1 trial, 40 patients). On a patient rather than per implant basis, implants placed with a flapless technique and implant exposures performed with laser lead to statistically significantly less postoperative pain than flap elevation. Sites augmented with soft tissue connective grafts had better ...
Vaginal evisceration is an evisceration of the small intestine that occurs through the vagina, typically subsequent to vaginal hysterectomy, and especially as a consequence of sexual intercourse after the surgery. It is a surgical emergency. Vaginal evisceration is typically obvious upon presentation, as intestine (typically ileum) can be seen protruding from the introitus. Other symptoms include a sense of pressure in the pelvis and vaginal bleeding. Emergently, vaginal eviscerations are treated by keeping the exposed intestines moist and wrapped, while waiting for definitive surgical treatment. Vaginal evisceration is usually treated by removing damaged tissue along the edges of the vaginal cuff, re-suturing the opening, and giving the patient broad-spectrum antibiotic prophylaxis. Surgery can be conducted via a laparotomy, though research from the 2010s shows that a transvaginal or laparoscopic approach can also be used safely and successfully if an infection has not developed. If left ...

The role of collagen fibres in biological bone-bonding of crystalline hydroxyapalite implant was analyzed. The mechanism involved interdigitation of collagen fibres into the surface layers of implant material. It was found that the bonding zone consists of nano-sized crystallites and organic bone matrix of collagen fibres. It was also found that the incorporation of collagen fibres with hydroxyapatite was necessary in the toughening and strengthening of bone bonding ...

There are two modes with this electrochromic compound: Transparent and Colored. That implies that the non-transparent mode is still not 100% opaque, which would be insufficient to operate as a shutter. You would require 100% opacity for this to behave as some kind of organic shutter…who knows if that is what this will lead to.. The more interesting implication of the organic compound is…could it lead to organic dynamic color filters? Imagine a camera that had 100% fill factor for all three color channels, or potentially any number of color channels, or RGB+L (luminance), all with high transmittance and more sensitivity than a Foveon. Thats what I think of when I hear "electrochromic"…a better future alternative to full color fill factor sensors than a Canon (or Sony, or Aptina, …) version of the Foveon.. ...

The film that propelled Eric Rohmer to international acclaim remains one of the finest achievements of his career. The fourth in the Moral Tales series, it tells the story of a chaste and conservative 30-something (Jean-Louis Trintignant) who sees a woman that he believes will be his perfect match whilst attending church. But when he unwittingly spends the night at the apartment of the worldly and spirited divorcée Maud (Françoise Fabian), he finds the moral certainties of his life are suddenly thrown into question. ...

Glaucoma - Plastic and reconstructive surgery offers other important therapies for specialists treating patients with complicated glaucoma. Filtering surgery, for example, reduces pressure within the eye, but usually creates a "bleb" (blister) on the eyes surface. If this bleb is exposed, the eye is at risk of serious infection. If the bleb is large, it can affect the eyelids function. In either case, surgical adjustment of the eyelid allows it to function well and protects the bleb -- without affecting the pressure control benefit of filtering surgery itself. In cases of end-stage glaucoma, or old trauma, there can be complete loss of sight and excessive pain. To relieve the pain, oculoplastic surgeons often remove the eye (enucleation) and place an orbital implant. Approximately five weeks later, a custom-made ocular prosthesis is made by an ocularist. This artificial eye will restore a more normal appearance and relieve discomfort.. Lacrimal Drainage System Problems - Some patients ...

Care and man-agement of the prosthesis and the anophthalmic socket, including associ-ated ocular tissue disorders will be emphasized. The article will enhance the clinicians comfort level managing patients wearing ocular prosthesis ...
There are a number of different conditions that require removal of an eye. The most common of these conditions are when a blind eye becomes painful or when a cancer, such as choroidal melanoma, develops inside an eye.
Plastids are the carotenoid fabrication facilities inside the cells. The biosynthetic route involved is called the "1-deoxy-D-xylulose 5-phosphate pathway" and always starts with the colourless molecule phytoene, a C40 carotenoid formed by condensation of two molecules of geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate (C20PP) by phytoene synthase (PSY). C20PP is in turn a precursor to chlorophylls and tocopherol. After four desaturation reactions phytoene is transformed into lycopene, the molecule that gives the red colour to ripe tomatoes. Lycopene leads to α- and ß-carotene and subsequent chemical reactions produce xanthophylls: lutein, zeaxanthin, antheraxanthin, etc (Figure 1)1.. Parallel roles Although carotenoids play different roles in plants and animals there are some curious analogies. In both taxa they are involved in photoreception/photoprotection, bio-communication and antioxidant defence.. Carotenoids are known to complete the photosynthetic machinery in plants by harvesting light in the spectral ...
DOI: 10.11607/prd.00.0841 The aim of this ongoing prospective study was to determine the 36-month survival rate of short porous implants in the posterior maxilla with 2 to 7 mm of initial bone height in 48 patients. Forty-eight implants were placed; 35 were in sites with a bone height of 5 mm or less and 13 patients required sinus elevation with osteotomes in addition to a xenograft. All implants were loaded with single crowns. At the end of the follow-up period the survival rate was 97.92%. The use of short porous implants showed good predictability in the treatment of the posterior maxilla in this interim 3-year report. (Int J Periodontics Restorative Dent 2009; 29:23 29 ...

Cellulitis, abscesses, hematomas, and other complications can appear at the same time as an evisceration. Abscesses and hematomas can be resolved after surgery with a surgical drain.[1]. Post-surgical treatment includes continuation of antibiotics and, in some postmenopausal people, vaginal estrogen to speed recovery. After surgery, people ...

In this paper, the improvement over a novel format for selective solid-phase extraction based on a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) is described. A small amount of MIP has been synthesized within the superficial pores of commercial polyethylene (PE) frits and attached to its surface using benzophenone (BP), a photo-initiator capable to start the polymerization from the surface of the support material. Key properties affecting the obtainment of a proper polymeric layer, such as polymerization time and kind of cross-linker were optimized. Prepared composite material was applied to the SPE of TBZ in real samples extracts, showing an impressive clean-up ability. Calibrations showed good linearity in the concentration range of 0.05-5.00 μg g-1, referred to the original solid sample, and the regression coefficients obtained were greater than 0.998. The calculated detection limit was 0.01 μg g-1, low enough to satisfactory analysis of TBZ in real samples. Mean recoveries were about 70 % at ...
A color sorting apparatus has a singulator section, a color sorter and a conveyor which drops the sorted objects into appropriate collection bins. Objects for sorting are transported on an endless conveyor on wheels through the singulation and color sorting section. An independently adjustable speed belt rotates in the same direction as the wheels and operates to provide a view of each of four sides of the object to an imaging device. The imaging device, such as a camera, supplies red, green and blue signals to an image processor which performs a color transformation and obtains a single composite hue value for each object or piece of fruit to be sorted. Based on a comparison of the hue value to user programmed grading criteria, signals are provided to the conveyor so that the objects are ultimately deposited in appropriate sorting bins. The apparatus also provides one or more of color calibration with respect to predetermined color standard references, a dynamic color calibration, a fine tuning
Diagnostic Techniques and Their Most Important Findings: Standard cine SSFP imaging on a 1.5 T MAGNETOM Aera (Siemens Healthcare, Erlangen, Germany) was limited by significant coil artifact in the right and left internal mammary arteries. Off weak resonance imaging was employed to optimize anatomic definition in this setting; however the flow physiology remained unclear. Four-dimensional (4D) flow imaging was performed following 0.1 mmol/kg gadoterate administration using Siemens WIP 785A with a FOV = 143 x 270 mm2, matrix = 52 x 120, slice thickness = 2.25 mm, TE = 2.2 ms, TR = 38 ms, VENC = 200 cm/sec and flip angle = 15°. Total acquisition time was just under 8 minutes. Arterys version 19.06.2 (Arterys Inc., San Francisco, CA) provided cloud-based post-processing of 4D flow data. Dynamic color flow imaging demonstrated severe restriction of the ventricular septal communication. Left ventricular egress was made possible by LV to RA shunting via regurgitation through the straddling tricuspid ...
Partial resistance has been induced in an inbred strain of mice (DBA/1) by the subcutaneous injection, and complete resistance by the intravenous injection, of suspensions of viable dbrB adenocarcinoma, a transplantable tumor indigenous to this strain.. The resistance can be masked by the use of too large a challenge dose. The degree of resistance is dependent on the amount of material injected initially as the immunizing dose in the subcutaneous series of experiments. Intravenous administration is more effective, requiring only a fraction of the material needed for immunization by the subcutaneous route. The resistance to a challenge implant of tumor tissue is independent of the size attained by the primary tumor. Resistance to a challenge tumor appears to be, at least in part, the result of a reaction of the host to a primary implant, requiring between 4 and 18 days to become effective.. ...
