This paper attempts to classify the oceanographic conditions of the fishing grids in east coast of Peninsular Malaysia using surface chlorophyll-a content and sea surface temperature (SST) data from satellite. The variation of SST and chlorophyll-a content in the South China Sea is greatly affected by the monsoon system. Analysis results showed that both SST and chlorophyll-a variations of the fishing grids are closely related to their geographical locations. The classification using chlorophyll-a on the fishing grids give a clearer variation compared to SST. Hierarchical cluster analysis gave a better means of understanding the variations of these oceanographic conditions and the relationship among the fishing grids. Here, we revisit the evidence for the integration of stochastic atmospheric variations by comparing the power spectra of time series of atmospheric and oceanographic conditions to the population dynamics of 150 plankton taxa at station L4 in the English Channel. Little research has compared how students learn science from computer simulations with how they learn from direct experience in the real environment on which the simulations are based. This study compared two college classes studying introductory oceanography. One class learned using an interactive computer simulation based on a dynamic, three-dimensional model of physical oceanography. The other class learned by spending a day on a research ship using scientific tools and instruments to measure physical properties of the ocean directly.
