It has been suggested that certain types of work may increase the risk of common mental disorders, but the exact nature of the relationship has been contentious. The aim of this paper is to conduct the first comprehensive systematic meta-review of the evidence linking work to the development of common mental health problems, specifically depression, anxiety and/or work-related stress and to consider how the risk factors identified may relate to each other. MEDLINE, PsychInfo, Embase, the Cochrane Collaboration and grey literature databases were systematically searched for review articles that examined work-based risk factors for common mental health problems. All included reviews were subjected to a quality appraisal. 37 review studies were identified, of which 7 were at least moderate quality. 3 broad categories of work-related factors were identified to explain how work may contribute to the development of depression and/or anxiety: imbalanced job design, occupational uncertainty and lack of ...

Dear Artist,. Naturally, because of my extreme incompetence at keeping records, Im fascinated with the subject of record keeping. Recently I was given a small device that hooks on my belt and keeps track of some of my daily activities. Yesterday, for example, I took 5034 steps, covered 3.8 kilometers and burned 143 calories. Pretty sedentary - and as for the calories - thats about as much as two buttered crackers. But this is valuable knowledge. It gives me a new goal for today.. Several years ago I devised a small notebook that also fitted on my belt. My idea was to enter my own name every time I signed a painting. At the beginning all went well, three here, two there. Then, inexplicably, I went for 18 days without a single signature. I was sufficiently frightened by the bookkeeping truth that I pulled up my socks and started signing like a crazed wildlife-print artist. I had learned that you cant take the keeping out of bookkeeping. My signature became my odometer.. While seeming ...

This project aims to produce a preference-based measure for common mental health problems derived from the CORE-OM. The project develops methodology that can be used to derive a preference-based measure where some of the dimensions are highly correlated and are therefore not independent.. The CORE-OM is a 34-item measure monitoring clinical outcomes of people with common mental health problems. CORE-OM is characterised by high correlation across its domains. The project used Rasch analysis to reduce the number of items and response levels in order to produce a set of unidimensionally-behaving items. Rasch analysis was subsequently used to generate a credible set of health states corresponding to different levels of symptom severity using the Rasch item threshold map.. The proposed methodology resulted in the development of CORE-6D, a 2-dimensional health state description system consisting of a unidimensionally-behaving 5-item emotional component and a physical symptom item. Inspection of the ...

Within the first month of antidepressant treatment, a substantial proportion of depressed patients reported improvement in their physical symptoms. The burden of physical symptoms, as measured by somatic symptom severity score, declined substantially during the first 4 weeks ...

Depression is a common mental health problem in primary health care. One third of the Swedish population is expected to experience depression at some point in their lives. The understanding of depression has expanded, both from a lay and primary health care perspective. The number of persons considering themselves as depressed, receiving the diagnosis, and getting treatment for it has increased steadily over the last decades.. Unchanged, however, is that depression is diagnosed twice as often in women as in men, while twice as many men as women commit suicide. These gender differences appear in adolescence. In earlier research biomedical, psychological, and social-cultural explanations of gender differences have been discussed. Patients own perspectives have more seldom stood in focus, and mens narratives in particular are still scarce. In this thesis, gender, i.e. how to be a woman or a man, is considered as a construct, formed and negotiated in social interaction.. The aim of the study is to ...

Anxiety is one of the most stressful experiences that an individual can undergo. As a result of stress itself, anxiety can either be short term or long term, depending on the person and their medical history. The National Alliance on Mental Illness states that anxiety disorders are the most common mental health problem in the U.S., affecting about one out of five people at any given time. This might be one of the reasons why more attention is not given to the issue, due to its commonness. Nevertheless, this does not mean that anxiety cant be one of the scariest experiences you will ever live. Those who have faced anxiety know how the rapid beating, soaring heartbeats and all loss of self-control can feel like an utter nightmare come true. Usually, those with long-term anxiety or those who frequently face panic attacks are prescribed medication that can have nasty side effects. Adolescent depression is a common mental health problem and there is an urgent need for effective and accessible treatments. Internet-based interventions solve many obstacles for seeking and receiving treatment, thus increasing access to effective treatments. Internet-based cognitive behavioural therapy (ICBT) for adolescent depression has demonstrated efficacy in previous trials. In order to broaden the range of evidence-based treatments for young people, we evaluated a newly developed affect-focused Internet-based psychodynamic treatment (IPDT) in a previous study with promising results. The purpose of the planned study is to evaluate the efficacy of IPDT for adolescent depression in a non-inferiority trial, comparing it to ICBT. The study will employ a parallel randomized non-inferiority design (ratio 1:1; n = 270). Eligible participants are adolescents 15-19 years suffering from depression. The primary hypothesis is that IPDT will be non-inferior to ICBT in reducing depressive symptoms from pre
Insomnia and depression are two common mental health problems. This study investigated whether a proven effective treatment for insomnia CBT-I, would change the severity of depressive symptoms, for participants with comorbid insomnia and depression. It was controlled for, whether a reduction in depressive symptoms could be the result of increased physical activity. A single case experimental design, including daily measurements of sleep, depression and physical activity, was used as a means to answer the research questions. Symptoms of both depression and insomnia were significantly reduced for three out of six participants. Increased physical activity was not able to explain the decrease in depression scores. A correlation was observed, between depression and insomnia. The results shows that insomnia and depression can be affected by the same treatment, which implies existence of common perpetual mechanisms.. ...

Permanent health insurance (PHI) policies pay benefits during a period of long-term incapacity (through illness or accident) if this prevents the breadwinner from working and in some cases stops the spouse at home from looking after the house and family. Any benefits paid are normally tax-free but no tax relief is allowed on the premiums. When a policy is taken out, consideration should also be given to waiver of premium. This is a small amount paid in addition to the policy contribution to protect the policy if an individual cannot continue paying the premiums.. There is a limit to the benefits payable which is related to the normal earning capacity of the individual or the costs of providing help for a house wife/husband. State benefits may also be taken into account. The benefits are only paid to normal retirement age. As the benefits are treated as non-taxable the payments will not qualify for pension contributions.. ...

The number of newborns in Japan is expected to be at its lowest level in 120 years, according to an announcement by Japans health ministry on December 24. Approximately 864,000 babies are estimated to have been born in Japan in 2019 - the first time the figure fell to below 900,000 since the country began keeping records in 1899. The Environmental Quality Incentive Program, EQIP program provides technical, educational, and financial assistance to eligible farmers and landowners to address soil, water, and related natural resource concerns on their lands in an environmentally beneficial and cost-effective manner. Cost-share is available for applicants who were selected for funding.. Sign-up 1 for 2020 closed on March 20th, and Clinton County has 55 applications! Projects that landowners are working on through this program include cover crops, nutrient management technologies, waste storage facilities, forest management plans, high tunnel systems, grassed waterways, and pollinator habitat. I forgot to mention that people who meet in chat rooms sometimes do mail second hand guns to people who are not in possession of an F.F.L. Advertisements on chat rooms and on sites like the Gun List should be made illegal which means that Harris is indeed correct when she says ordering guns with a click of the mouse is happening and should be stopped. This does not mean places like Gun Broker would become illegal either as the web site would be responsible for keeping records of who was selling and who was receiving the weapon and who was the end buyer. In this way any seller that did not ship to an F.F.L. would be traceable and liable for prosecution as well as being banned from GunBroker. Right now as far as I know there are no safeguards in place that make places like GunBroker keep records on their buyers and sellers and guarantee the sale was legal from seller to buyer.. So how would this all work. First the Seller would have to take the gun to a store front seller who has an F.FL. if the ...

Managing a fleet is virtually impossible without holding at least some data on individuals. This includes checking driving licence details, keeping records of vehicle usage and possibly the more detailed data that can be captured by telematics or recording devices. There is also potential use of data about third parties if they are involved in incidents with the vehicles, whether as part of a claim or because they are recorded on camera. It is common for personal data to be processed by or transferred to third parties, for example during the licence checking process, when dealing with any speeding or parking tickets, or in dealings with insurers.. This means that it is vital to work through how this data is used and safeguarded, and to make preparations to ensure that your business will continue to operate compliantly beyond May 2018. Even organisations that are currently data protection compliant will have some adjustments to make.. In terms of the headline changes, GDPR gives individuals more ...
Tony Hayes was a producer and marketer of North American wildcrafted herbs for almost 50 years. He began his career in 1973 as an herb buyer for Lowe Fur and Herb of North Wilkesboro, then in 1981 went to work for Wilcox Drug Company in Boone, North Carolina. In 2000 he and his wife Sandy started their own business, Ridge Runner Trading Company. He was Appalachian born and bred, a man whose deep western North Carolina accent sung the story of his roots. He was a country gentleman, and a digger-someone as comfortable with going into his woods with a burlap bag and a shovel as he was selling locally harvested herbs to the largest companies in the country and meeting with federal regulators to represent his segment of the herb trade. Tony was a virtual warehouse of knowledge for herbal data, keeping records on things like the quantities and quality of herbs produced in any given year, and he shared that knowledge freely with all of us, making it available just for the asking. He was the person ...
