Background Pressure ulcers, also known as decubitus ulcers, pressure injuries or more commonly bed sores occur when a patient is sitting or lying on a pressure point for an extended period of time, resulting in skin breakdown (Cutugno et al. 2015). Pressure ulcers can occur in any age group but most commonly occur in the geriatric population, especially those who are bed- or wheel-chair bound (Venes 2015). Being a preventable issue, pressure ulcers are a huge problem and cost our healthcare system billions of dollars annually (Cutugno et al. 2015). Pressure Ulcers also cause patients to experience embarrassment, anxiety, depression, and an increased risk of death by five times in the geriatric population (Aljezawi, Al Qadire, and Tubaishat 2014 p.6). Certified Nurses Assistants (CNAs) and Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) are the primary caregivers in long term care facilities to geriatric patients. CNAs and PCAs have the responsibility to assist with preventing pressure ulcers as well as ...

The aim of this study was to describe the focus of nursing education research in Finnish doctoral dissertations in the field of nursing and caring sciences between the years 1990-2014. In addition, the characteristics (i.e. methods, study informants and reporting of validity, reliability, and research ethics) of the dissertations were described. This study shows that preparedness and guidance during placement were essential to making the week in the outpatient unit meaningful. Some of the findings agree with other studies that have found that using outpatient units as clinical placements in nursing studies has several challenges [17]. However the findings also revealed opportunities for making the placement a positive experience for the students.. An interesting finding was that, although both written and oral information was given by the nurse educators, some of the students were almost unaware of being part of a project, of the concepts being used and how to use and to fill out the forms. Other students were well prepared for the new experiences, as they had read and used the forms ahead of the week in the outpatient unit in order to be alert. Taking responsibility for ones own learning is an important part of being prepared [13] and being prepared for clinical placement is an attribute that can separate the successful students from ...

Many parents worry that telling their kids might place a burden on the children. Mental health professionals say the decision about whether to tell your kids depends on many factors, including how perceptive they are (if there are medicine containers all around, kids will ask about them), how discreet you need to be (asking kids to keep your status a secret is a heavy burden), and how strong you can be for them (some kids will be angry or overly clingy, worried youll be dying). For most people, telling their children is the right thing to do. Before you do, learn everything you can about HIV. Your kids have been perfecting the why questions since they were 2 years old; this is a moment when there will be a lot of whys and hows. Your doctor or counselor might have ideas about groups or advocates for children, who can also talk to the kids or be a support team for you and the offspring as you go through the coming-out process. Then, says Mark Cichocki, a nurse educator at the University of ...

Throughout the week, ECHO staff also trains and shares information with the remote clinic staff. An ECHO nurse educator may clarify by phone issues that were addressed in the teleclinic, or may provide clinical support and mentoring, safety monitoring, or data collection help for outcomes measures. The ECHO education coordinator may also follow up on the teaching presented in clinics, help providers network, register continuing education credits, and arrange outreach activities. Sanjeevs strategy also includes showing that ECHO patients are not only benefiting by receiving treatment, but that they have as good or better outcomes than if they were seen by a specialist in person. The better care comes, in part, from having multiple specialists in most ECHO clinics (e.g. Hep C has a hepatologist, psychiatrist, psychologist, and pharmacist), which would be impossible in an in-person consultation in a rural area. Sanjeev and his team use software to track this by collecting data in both the ...
