As a pediatric subspecialty, neonatology poses a special challenge for residents: rotations are short, but care for preterm and critically ill patients is complex. Despite residents brief exposure to neonatology, theyre expected to have a good understanding of key concepts, diagnoses and therapies when they sit for the boards. Attendings often struggle with how best to teach these concepts, because residents dont always have exposure to the range of babies they need to see to have a good foundation in this area. Neonatology Case-Based Review addresses this information gap by presenting 112 case-based multiple-choice questions in neonatology. Cases are mapped to the American Board of Pediatrics Content Specifications for pediatric residents; the Review is appropriate for residents entering their neonatology rotation, as an introduction to the subspecialty, and again as they study for their boards. Answers include rationales so that the Review is a comprehensive teaching guide for attendings as ...

From the beginning of our activity at 2010, our Portsaid neonatology society vision was to deal with neonatal care in Egypt, not just as a Neonatal intensive care units job, but as a global community concern. So, we target all health care providers who deal with neonates in the community in addition to addressing the public to spread the right knowledge about proper neonatal care. From this perspective we consider that neonatal care is a field of utmost importance for the community and future of the country and sustainable development. Sensibly this must include problems that threaten the future generations including neonatal mortality, morbidity, decline of breast feeding, high cesarean section rates and disability. Our society had 8 neonatology conferences, 4 NICU nursing conferences, 24 workshops, 14 scientific days, plus sharing other societies & institutes activities & social activities. حرصت جمعية بورسعيد لحديثى الولادة منذ بدأ نشاطها فى عام ...
PURPOSE: Our purpose was to study the ability of personal computer teleradiology (PCT) to improve the quality of communication between physicians during newborn infant transfers and consultations. STUDY DESIGN: In the first part of the study 36 radiographs of neonatal intensive care unit patients were transmitted by PCT. The pediatrician reviewed the original films and three neonatologists reviewed the PCT images. Their interpretations were scored by use of criteria established by a neutral reader. In the second part chest x-ray films (CXR) of 31 newborns weighing more than 2000 grams with respiratory distress were transmitted by PCT. A pediatrician and three neonatologists participated in an exercise to simulate a telephone neonatology consultation. Patient severity assessments as measured by assignments to receive intermediate or intensive care were compared before and after neonatologists viewed the PCT image of the CXR.. RESULTS: In part 1 of the study neonatologists correctly identified ...

through Obamacare and other policies that hes advanced.. Mike: The Born-Alive Infants Protection Act in Illinois, he was the only vote against it. Is he complicit? Hes complicit he has complicity.. Lamontagne: Thats right. If people want to learn more about our organization, our website is www.aul.org. Thats the acronym for Americans United for Life. There theyll find model legislation that we draft and encourage states to adopt. Theyll find articles about the health risks to women from abortion. This is one of the dirty lies of the abortion industry. They suggest that if youre pro-life then youre pro-baby but anti-woman. Being pro-life in America means being pro-woman and being pro-unborn child both. Dont accept the lie of the left that youre one or the other. We are both. We are concerned about the way that women are exploited in this country. Theyre forced by men, the culture, the Supreme Court to look at abortion as an option rather than being affirmed in their pregnancy ...

The 2017 annual meeting of the Swiss Society of Neonatology was devoted to perinatal and neonatal infections. Apart from the members of the Neonatal Society, representatives of the Paediatric Infectious Diseases Group Switzerland (www.pigs.ch) were invited to join this meeting, and five sessions were presented on this important topic. The meeting focused on vertical infections, neonatal sepsis in Switzerland and on controversies about microbial screening and antimicrobial use in neonatal medicine; a discussion with a panel of experts followed the two keynotes on the latter issue, presented by Prof . Christoph Bührer from Berlin, and Dr Martin Stocker from Lucerne. Once again, young Swiss neonatologists and paediatricians weree given the opportunity to present their research projects as a short report at the beginning of the scientific program. Prizes for the best short report and the best poster were awarded at the end of the meeting.

Posted on 08/12/2008 6:08:53 AM PDT by Kaslin. Newly discovered documents from the Illinois state archives prove Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has lied about his opposition to legislation requiring health officials to provide care to babies who survived abortion as an Illinois state senator. Obama has claimed again and again he would have supported his state s version of the Born Alive Infant Protection Act if it included language to protect abortion rights guaranteed by Roe v. Wade and viciously attacked conservative opponents who suggested otherwise. Now there s documentation showing Obama did vote against a version of the Born Alive Infant Protection Act that contained language to protect abortion rights identical to the bill that passed 98-0 in the U.S. Senate. We have a smoking gun committee report, the National Right to Life Committee s Legislative Counsel Susan Muskett said. NRLC posted the unearthed documents from the Illinois senate archives Monday. Six days later, I got irked at him for the first time, for saying "Youre not listening" to a man who wanted to know what his position on Iraq was. Back then, Kerry was saying things like "We shouldnt only be tough, we have to be smart. And theres a smarter way to accomplish this mission than this president is pursuing." My question was: "If you still dont know what he would do differently from Bush, do you deserve to be snapped at for not listening?" Ive linked back to this old post of mine a number of times, because I never forgot that he got testy and accused a man of not listening, when in fact Kerry had never expressed himself clearly about what he would do in Iraq. I had been willing to wait a long time for a clear answer, yet here he was criticizing us for not having heard his answer yet. All I had heard was "smarter way," which just seemed like a placekeeper for a plan to be submitted later ...

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) affects 1 in 6 infants with a birthweight ,1,000 g (extremely low birthweight; ELBW) and is frequently associated with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). If untreated, the mortality rates of the disease are high. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to characterize risk factors for PH in ELBW infants and to describe the timing of onset of the disease by setting up a screening program. METHODS: ELBW infants treated at the Department of Neonatology (level III neonatal intensive care unit at the University of Cologne Medical Centre, Germany) between January 2010 and March 2015 were included ...

In neonatology, blood gas analysis is a useful tool in the evaluation of the health of newborns and plays a key role in early detection of critically ill subjects. Because blood gas analysis parameters have not previously been studied in any depth in donkey foals, this study was performed on 16 healthy Martina Franca donkey foals born after an uncomplicated delivery. Arterial and venous blood samples were collected at 5 minutes and at 12, 24, 72, and 96 hours of age. Blood gas analysis was performed by a portable analyzer, measuring arterial and venous total carbon dioxide, carbon dioxide partial pressure (pCO2), oxygen partial pressure (pO2), oxygen saturation (sO2), bicarbonate, base excess (BE), pH, and lactate (LT ...
