In 2013, Qatar introduced a national health insurance scheme, called Seha. Stage 1 of the scheme covered women aged 12 years and older for health care and maternity services. Stage 2 was launched in 2014, and covered all Qatari nationals for a much broader set of services. In the future, Stages 3 and 4 will extend coverage to all non-Qatari residents within the country as well as visitors.. The National Health Insurance Company (NHIC) manages Seha, with a Third-Party Administrator (TPA) contracted to manage provider claims. The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) acts as the schemes overall regulator, and is responsible for activities such as specifying coverage and approving pricing.. A range of steps was taken to prepare for Sehas launch. SCH mandated clinical coding using ICD-10-AM, and hospitals recruited and/or trained clinical coders to use this system. The Australian Refined Diagnosis Related Groups (AR-DRGs) tool was adopted, and public sector hospitals embarked on the clinical costing ...
Beyond the Affordable Care Act: A Physicians Proposal for Single-Payer Health Care Reform establishes the vision and principles that will empower Americans to replace our expensive, inadequate, and inefficient collection of health care systems with an improved Medicare for All.. The proposal outlines the general structure of a single-payer system for the United States, including coverage and eligibility; physician and outpatient care payment; global budgeting of hospitals; health planning and capital investments; coverage for medications, devices, and supplies; the establishment of a national long-term care program; cost-containment; and single-payer financing. The proposal also demonstrates the shortcomings of alternatives to National Health Insurance, including the Affordable Care Act... ...

Responsiveness of health care services in low and middle income countries has been given little attention. Despite being introduced over a decade ago in many developing countries, national health insurance schemes have yet to be evaluated in terms of responsiveness of health care services. Although this responsiveness has been evaluated in many developed countries, it has rarely been done in developing countries. The concept of responsiveness is multi-dimensional and can be measured across various domains including prompt attention, dignity, communication, autonomy, choice of provider, quality of facilities, confidentiality and access to family support. This study examines the insured users perspectives of their health care services responsiveness. This retrospective, cross-sectional survey took place between October 2010 and March 2011. The study used a modified out-patient questionnaire from a responsiveness survey designed by the World Health Organization (WHO). Seven hundred and ninety six (796)
Discussion In early 2012 the Chhattisgarh state government included packages under RSBY (Rastriya Swasthya Bima Yojana) and MSBY (Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana) in various national health programmes, where hospitalisation is necessary. Leveraging this opportunity, the state TB Control Programme in Chhattisgarh facilitated Revised National Tuberculosis Programme (RNTCP) partnership with RSBY and MSBY through creation of innovative MDR-TB packages under the Universal Health Insurance Scheme (UHIS), integrating it in a list of other disease packages by December 2012.. Our study provides evidence of cost savings for MDR-TB patients requiring hospitalisation for ambulatory care patients in comparison with facility-based treatment with similar outcomes. These cost savings may improve equity, however covering of indirect costs such as travel as part of the current government initiative for covering MDR-TB costs under the state health insurance schemes could mitigate the costs impact on low-income ...

Background: Despite recent advances, acute myocardial infarction (AMI) still carries significant morbidity and mortality. The American Heart Association Get With the Guidelines program (GWTG) has improved the quality of AMI care with important implications for other countries in the world. This study evaluated the care and outcomes of AMI in Taiwan and assessed the applicability of GWTG in Taiwan.. Methods and Results: The National Health Insurance Research database (NHIRD) is derived from the claims data of the National Health Insurance program that covers over 99% of Taiwans population. By using the 1999-2008 NHIRD, we analyzed the temporal patterns of AMI care during hospitalization based on GWTG measures in Taiwan. Overall, the AMI incidence is still increasing in Taiwan. The age-adjusted incidence of AMI (/100,000 persons/year) gradually increased from 28.0 in 1999 to 44.4 in 2008 (P,0.001). Aspirin was used in 92.3% in 2004 and 92.2% in 2008 (P=NS). Enhancing National Health Care In Ghana Through Government Programs And Community Partnership. Ghana, a highly-indebted poor country with just over 20 million people, has a severe shortage of trained medical personnel and health care facilities. This study examines the measures taken by the Kufuor administration (2001-2009) to improve Ghanas national health system as well as the extent to which an Elon University, Periclean Scholars class of 2010 community partnership with Kpoeta, Ghana has supported Ghanas national health care goals. It also evaluates the relative success of measures to improve healthcare undertaken by the Government of Ghana and the 2010 Periclean Scholars based on analysis of research studies, feedback from our partnering community and first-hand experience in the country over fall 2008 and January 2009. Findings include that funds and goods distributed through government-supported incentive programs aimed at reversing the exodus of trained medical professionals to foreign ...

Several critical studies in accounting have approached the introduction of accounting systems in the public sector in terms of enforcing and sustaining competition-based resource allocation mechanisms. In this study, we reverse the question and ask: why has accounting not been used in certain public bureaucracies as much as it might? We investigate the extent to which accounting systems have been used in the management of the Greek National Health System (ESY) and find that accounting has played a marginal role in its development. Attempting to explain this puzzling feature we first note and then contrast the main underlying features of accounting systems with those of the Greek political system in general, and ESY in particular Briefly, our explanation is that the historically high politicization that has characterized the Greek political system has tended to overshadow the economic-cum-managerial dimension of running public bureaucracies, favouring overtly political evaluation criteria of ...
Dodd, who decided against running for a sixth term in office this year, said the event did help by clarifying the issues that separate Democrats and Republicans. Dodd admitted Friday that hes not enamored of using the Senate reconciliation process to pass health care reform -- a legislative move that allows the majority party to pass bills with a 51-vote majority. [...] he also said the Senate has used the reconciliation process more than 22 times in past years to get difficult bills passed, including the legislation that created COBRA, which allows people who leave a job to buy health insurance from their old employers, and SCHIP, the national health insurance program for children. The local postmaster gets the same insurance as I do. Because that insurance pays for annual check-up, Dodd was able to learn in July that he had prostate cancer.

Rethinking Health Care , Events , Speakers , Seminars , Resources Dr. Stephanie Woolhandler, Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and founder of Physicians for a National Health Program, will present her lecture Health Reform: The Need for Single Payer National Health Insurance as part of the Weissman Centers Fall 2009 series, Rethinking Healthcare on Wednesday, November 18, at 7:30 pm in Gamble Auditorium, Art Building, at Mount Holyoke College. The United States spends $2 trillion a year on health care, the highest per capita spending for health care in the world. Despite spending nearly twice as much on health care as residents of other nations, Americans have relatively poor health and access to health care. Americans are dying at an earlier age than the average life expectancy for developed countries. Life expectancy in Canada and much of Western Europe is about two years longer than in the U.S. 47 million Americans have no health insurance, and private coverage is often so ...
This chapter discusses private health insurance, social health insurance, and tax-financed health care. These three health insurance systems differ in terms of three Cs: costs, coverage, and choice. ... More. This chapter discusses private health insurance, social health insurance, and tax-financed health care. These three health insurance systems differ in terms of three Cs: costs, coverage, and choice. Private health insurance is the most costly one to manage. Coverage is limited to people who have taken out insurance, but the choice to do so is of course voluntary. The contrasting system is taxation: it is cheap, it involves universal coverage, but it is compulsory. Social health insurance (SHI) lies between the two contrasting systems, but in practice is quite similar to tax-funded health care on two crucial issues. First, there is no link between size of the individuals contribution and their expected use of health care. Hence, the inefficiencies in the labour market associated with direct ...

The Spanish National Health System (Spanish: Sistema Nacional de Salud, SNS) is the agglomeration of public health services that has existed in Spain since it was established through and structured by the Ley General de Sanidad (the General Health Law) of 1986. Management of these services has been progressively transferred to the distinct autonomous communities of Spain, while some continue to be operated by the National Institute of Health Management (Instituto Nacional de Gestión Sanitaria, INGESA), part of the Ministry of Health and Social Policy (which superseded the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs-Ministerio de Sanidad y Consumo-in 2009). The activity of these services is harmonized by the Interterritorial Council of the Spanish National Health Service (Consejo Interterritorial del Servicio Nacional de Salud de España, CISNS) in order to give cohesion to the system and to guarantee the rights of citizens throughout Spain. Article 46 of the Ley General de Sanidad establishes the ...
Auxiliary nurse midwife, commonly known as ANM, is a village-level female health worker in India who is known as the first contact person between the community and the health services. ANMs are regarded as the grass-roots workers in the health organisation pyramid. Their services are considered important to provide safe and effective care to village communities. The role may help communities achieve the targets of national health programmes. The Mukherjee Committee in 1966 prescribed a system of targets and incentives and identified ANMs and other village-level workers as agents for the popularization of the health programmes. In the 1950s and 1960s, training of ANMs mainly focused on midwifery and mother and child health. In 1973, the Kartar Singh Committee of the Government of India combined the functions of the health services and changed the role of ANMs. The committee recommended that there should be 1 ANM available per 10,000-12,000 people. In 1975, the Srivastava Committee recommended ...
Many Low-and-Middle-Income countries are considering reviewing their health financing systems to meet the principles of Universal Health Coverage (UHC). One financing mechanism, which has dominated UHC reforms, is the development of health insurance schemes. We trace the historical development of the National Health Insurance (NHI) policy, illuminate stakeholders perceptions on the design to inform future development of health financing policies in Kenya. We conducted a retrospective policy analysis of the development of a NHI policy in Kenya using data from document reviews and seven in depth interviews with key stakeholders involved in the NHI design. Analysis was conducted using a thematic framework. The design of a NHI scheme was marked by complex interaction of the actors understanding of the design, proposed implementation strategies and the covert opposition of the reform due to several reasons. First, actors perception of the cost of the NHI design and its implication to the economy generated
BACKGROUND: Previous studies revealed that chronic exposure to air pollution can significantly increase the risk of the development of Parkinsons disease (PD), but this relationship is inconclusive as large-scale prospective studies are limited and the results are inconsistent. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to ascertain the adverse health effects of air pollution exposure in a nationwide population using a longitudinal approach. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a nested case-control study using the National Health Insurance Research Dataset (NHIRD), which consisted of 1,000,000 beneficiaries in the National Health Insurance Program (NHI) in the year 2000 and their medical records from 1995 to 2013 and using public data on air pollution concentrations from monitoring stations across Taiwan released from the Environmental Protection Administration to identify people with ages ≥ 40 years living in areas with monitoring stations during 1995-1999 as study subjects ...
Data source: Minimum Basic Data Set (MBDS) of hospital care episodes. Potential Day Surgery Episode (PDSE) was defined as the hospital episode with a surgical procedure (ICD-9-CM), programmed admission and home discharge. To be considered as PDSE, the selected procedure must appear in at least 50 day-surgery cases and be developed in at least 5 hospitals. The study database included: MBDS of 188 (85%) hospitals in the National Health System and 32 (15%) Spanish private hospitals in the year 2006 with 1,162,082 surgical admissions. From 1,770 procedures identified (ICD-9-MC), 798 fulfilled PDSE criteria that were finally grouped in 204 procedure groups. From the total number of surgical admissions, 931,630 episodes were considered as PDSE and 541,715 were observed as real day-surgery episodes (substitution index of 58.1%). A logistic regression model was applied to estimate the expected number of day-surgery episodes. The dependent variable was day-surgery case (yes/no). ...
Background: To investigate the occurrence of pneumonia in the real world among patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, or asthma-COPD overlap syndrome (ACOS) treated with two different inhaled corticosteroids (ICS), budesonide vs fluticasone.. Methods: National registry data were collected from the Korean National Health Insurance Research Database, comprising 1,025,340 random subjects who were selected from 46,605,433 Korean residents in 2002. Patients with asthma or COPD who used budesonide or fluticasone for the first time since 2003 were enrolled. Pneumonia and ICS-related pneumonia (pneumonia with history of ICS usage within 3 months) were counted. Pneumonia was identified if ICD-10 diagnosis and antibiotics were prescribed within 2 day.. Results: A total of 15,476 patients were enrolled and there were 2,707 patients with pneumonia during follow-up periods. Univariate analysis showed that pneumonia were more frequent in patients with older age, higher daily ICS ...

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to ascertain the relationships of blood pressure, fasting sugar level, triglyceride (TG) level, uric acid level, and body mass index (BMI) with proteinuria and the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) in a population from southern Taiwan. METHODS: The 20,900 subjects enrolled in this study had undergone a free adult health examination under the National Health Insurance scheme between September 2005 and June 2011. Factors such as blood pressure, blood sugar, TG, uric acid and BMI were examined in terms of their relationships with the eGFR (calculated according to the Taiwanese Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (Taiwanese-MDRD)) and proteinuria ...
The Paris HIV cascade is not directly estimated. It is approached on the basis of several sets of data and estimations at national level. The number of people on care is based on national health insurance data for people receiving free care for HIV infection in 2013. This figure is estimated to account for approximatively 85% of people on HIV care since a significant proportion of individuals do not apply for free care or are not insured by the national health insurance system . The number of undiagnosed HIV + individuals was estimated for 2010 based on French national HIV surveillance data and a back-calculation approach. For 2010, this number was added to the estimated number of people in care to estimate the number of HIV+ individuals and the proportion of those in care: 81%. Information on being on ARV treatment and RNA measurement are based on the French Hospital Database for 2014. Viral suppression was defined as HIV RNA ...

In their study, Dr. Song and team examined atrial fibrillations associations with both heart failure and poor oral hygiene. They used data from 161,286 people who were part of the Korean National Health Insurance System-Health Screening Cohort.. A-fib is a condition affecting at least 2.7 million people in the United States. In people with A-fib, the heart cannot efficiently pump blood to the rest of the body because it does not beat regularly.. The heart also does not pump blood as it should in people with heart failure. This inefficiency results in fatigue and, sometimes, breathing difficulties, as insufficient oxygen reaches the other organs in the body.. The participants of the current study were 40-79 years old and had no history of either A-fib or heart failure. During enrollment, which took place between 2003 and 2004, the team measured the height and weight of each of the participants and asked them questions about their lifestyle, oral health, and oral hygiene habits.. The participants ...

I cannot tell you how important it is to have a health insurance scheme both for yourself as well as for your loved ones. You probably will not realize the significance of the health insurance until tragedies strike or when you or your loved ones get afflicted with an ailment that requires costly medical treatment and hospitalization. When Alycia was 14 months old, she was attacked by Rotavirus and purged non-stop for several days. She was hospitalized for 3 nights and luckily our health care insurer settled the bill. It would have burned a big hole in our pockets had we not purchased a health insurance scheme for Alycia ...
While pioglitazone reduces insulin resistance and hepatic gluconeogenesis effectively in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), these benefits remained controversial in patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD). We compared major adverse cardiac cerebrovascular events (MACCEs) and mortality (overall, infection-related, and MACCE-related) of pioglitazone to that of dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitors (DPP4-inhibitors) in patients with T2DM and ESRD. From Taiwan’s national health insurance research database (NHIRD), 647 pioglitazone users and 6080 DPP4-inhibitors users between 1 April 2006 and 31 December 2016 were followed from the 91th date after the ESRD certification until the study outcomes, independently; withdraw from the NHI program, death, or 31 December 2017, whichever came first. After weighting, risks of MACCEs (10.48% vs. 12.62% per person-years, hazard ratio (HR): 0.85, 95% (CI): 0.729–0.985) and all-cause mortality (12.86% vs. 13.22% per person-years, (HR): 0.88, 95%
BACKGROUND: Evidence-based guideline recommendations on lipid lowering drug treatment, in particular statin treatment, play an essential role in the management of dyslipidemias and in the prevention of cardiovascular disease events. In Germany, statutory health insurance data provide information on time trends in the prescription of lipid lowering drugs. However, population-based data regarding changes in user prevalence according to socio-demographic and health-related characteristics are lacking. Based on data from national health interview and examination surveys for adults in Germany 1997-1999 (GNHIES98) and 2008-2010 (DEGS1), the present analysis aims to close this information gap with a particular focus on the use of statins. METHODS: The study population consisted of 7,099 participants (GNHIES98) and 7,091 participants (DEGS1) aged 18 to 79 years at the time of the respective surveys. Primary data on medication use within 7 days prior to the survey were collected using standardized ...
Until four years ago, Germany was one of very few Western countries where pharmaceutical companies remained free to set prices at the level they chose. As a result, drug prices were renowned for being as much as 26% higher than average prices across the EU. However, all this changed at the beginning of 2011. Faced with spiraling costs and the prospect of an €11 billion deficit in the states statutory health insurance scheme, the government took action. - News - PharmaTimes
Background: Kawasaki disease (KD) is an immune-mediated systemic vasculitis and infection plays an important role in the pathophysiology of KD. The susceptibility to infectious disease in patients with KD remains largely unclear. This study aimed to investigate the risk of respiratory tract infection (RTI)-related hospitalizations in children with KD. Methods: Data from Taiwanese National Health Insurance Research Database was analyzed. Children with KD were selected as KD group and age- and sex-matched non-KD patients were selected as control group with 1:1 ratio. Both cohorts were tracked for 1 year to investigate the incidences of RTI-related hospitalizations. Cox regression hazard model was used to adjust for confounding factors and calculate the adjusted hazard ratio (aHR). Results: Between January 1996 and December 2012, 13,760 patients with KD were identified as KD group and 13,709 patients were enrolled as control group. An obviously reduced risk of RTI-related hospitalizations was ...

Supplement to JACM 40.2. The Journal of Ambulatory Care Management is pleased to announce a special supplement on the Brazilian National Program for Improving Access and Quality of Primary Care (PMAQ).. The Brazilian National Program for Improving Access and Quality of Primary Care (PMAQ) is one of the worlds largest initiatives intended to stimulate access to and quality of primary care services, encompassing over 30,000 health teams in nearly every Brazilian municipality. Currently in its third year, the program has multiple components including an innovative pay for performance mechanism. The program is growing rapidly and evolving new forms of performance assessment; financial and non-financial incentives; and partnerships between municipalities, states, and the federal government. Too bad Clinton failed to truly add up the numbers.. She argued that a respected health economist said such a system would cost a trillion dollars more per year. Her reference was likely pointing to Kenneth Thorpe, Emory University professor, who actually helped draft the single-payer system in Vermont, Sanders home state.. Clinton told Sanders that he needed level with people about what they will wind up receiving with a single-payer system, claiming that the numbers dont add up and people will be worse off than they are now.. Health experts disagree. They say Thorpe is working with incorrect calculations.. Dr. Steffie Woolhandler, a public health professor at City University of New York, says the numbers on single-payer do in fact add up. The professor, who is the co-founder of the Physicians for a National Health Program, also pointed to the fact that other countries have implemented single-payer systems that cover virtually everything, and still manage to do so at a lower cost than ...
Many low- and middle-income countries are reforming their health financing mechanisms as part of broader strategies to achieve universal health coverage (UHC). Voluntary social health insurance, despite evidence of resulting inequities, is attractive to policy makers as it generates additional funds for health, and provides access to a greater range of benefits for the formally employed. The South African government introduced a voluntary health insurance scheme (GEMS) for government employees in 2005 with the aim of improving access to care and extending health coverage. In this paper we ask whether the new scheme has assisted in efforts to move towards UHC. Using a cross-sectional survey across four of South Africas nine provinces, we interviewed 1329 government employees, from the education and health sectors. Data were collected on socio-demographics, insurance coverage, health status and utilisation of health care. Multivariate logistic regression was used to determine if service utilisation was

Mounting evidence has shown an increased risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in association with elevated exposure to air pollution. However, limited evidence is available concerning the effect of specific air pollutant(s) on GDM incidence. We conducted this case-control study on 6717 mothers with GDM diagnosed in 2006-2013 and 6717 age- and year of delivery-matched controls to further address the risk of GDM in relation to specific air pollutant. Both cases and controls were selected from a cohort of 1-million beneficiaries of Taiwans National Health Insurance program registered in 2005. Maternal exposures to mean daily air pollutant concentration, derived from 76 fixed air quality monitoring stations within the 12-week period prior to pregnancy and during the 1st and 2nd trimesters, were assessed by the spatial analyst method (i.e., ordinary kriging) with the ArcGIS software. After controlling for potential confounders and other air pollutants, an increase in pre-pregnancy exposure of 1 inter

The horrifying specter of Trumpcare, the shortfalls of Obamacare and the continued rise in overall health care costs in the United States have provided an important opening for proponents to put single-payer back on the table. Attempts at creating a national health insurance scheme have come close but failed several times before in US history. However, while it is imperative to ensure that every American has equal access to quality care, single-payer is insufficient when it comes to ensuring our right to health and well-being. ...
For medicines, remedies and applications that are prescribed, co-payments must be made. However, those with health insurance do not have to pay more than two percent of their annual gross income. For chronically ill people, the load limit is one percent of the annual gross income. Gross income includes all income with which insured persons finance their livelihood - for example: salary pensions or pensions, Principal interest rental income In calculating the load limit, the annual gross income of all members living in the household shall be taken into account. These can be spouses, civil partners under the Civil Partnership Act or children with family insurance. For families, the burden limit is reduced by the child allowances and, if necessary, the allowance for the spouse. In the case of recipients of social assistance, the standard rate of the head of the household is the basis for calculating the load limit, which is why the allowances cannot be estimated. Children and adolescents up to the ...
BACKGROUND: Although diabetes is a well-known risk factor of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases, the cardiovascular disease risk of glycemia below the current diabetic threshold remains uncertain. METHODS AND RESULTS: A total of 652,901 Korean men aged 30 to 64 years from the Korean National Health Insurance System were categorized into 8 groups by fasting blood glucose (FBG) level at baseline and were followed up for cardiovascular diseases occurrence during 1992-2001. Over the follow-up period of 8.8 years, 10,954 stroke and 3766 myocardial infarction events occurred. In age-adjusted analyses, there was evidence of linear associations between FBG and myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke, and intracerebral hemorrhagic stroke. However, with additional adjustment for socioeconomic position, behaviors, and other cardiovascular disease risk factors, the associations with myocardial infarction and intracerebral hemorrhagic stroke were markedly attenuated with increased risk only at the ...

Research on Early Cataracts & Cancer Risk. Researchers reporting in the journal Cancer Science, the official journal of the Japanese Cancer Association investigated the risk of cancer after being diagnosed with early onset cataract. The researchers examined claims from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) of patients with early onset cataract, aged 20-55 and also compared it to a group of the same age range without cataracts. By using powerful statistical analysis they found that the overall incidence rate of all cancers was 2.19-fold higher in the early onset cataract group as compared to those without cataracts. Further they were able to analyze where these patients were at greatest risk of developing cancer and found head and neck areas highest, followed by liver cancer and then breast cancer. This study suggests that patients with early onset cataract are at an increased risk of being diagnosed with cancer in subsequent years.. If you or someone you know is ...

Laboratory studies have demonstrated statin-induced apoptosis of cancer cells, including breast cancer cells, and evidence is accumulating on the mechanism of statin-induced apoptosis. However, despite numerous epidemiological studies, no consensus has been reached regarding the relationship between statin use and breast cancer risk. This retrospective case-control study enrolled 4332 breast cancer patients and 21,660 age-matched controls registered in the National Health Insurance program of Taiwan, which covers approximately 99% of the population. The study cases were women for whom a diagnosis of breast cancer (ICD-9-CM code 174.X) had been recorded in LHID2005 between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2010. A logistic regression model was adjusted for potential confounding factors, including the level of urbanization, and the Charlson Comorbidity Index was applied to assess potential comorbidities. We also considered possible bias caused by random urbanization, because nutrition and lifestyle factors
The English national health system experienced a major reorganisation in April 2013. This mixed methods study examined how staff managed to deliver the national immunisation programme within a new health infrastructure and explored the role and contribution of partnership working to programme implementation. A cross-sectional online questionnaire survey and a qualitative evaluation of an urban immunisation board were conducted in 2016. The questionnaire included 38 questions about immunisation responsibilities, collaboration, service evaluation and programme support. It was completed by 199 immunisation providers and 70 people involved in the management of the immunisation programme. The evaluation involved 12 semi-structured interviews, 3 observations of forum meetings and the review of forum meeting minutes. Descriptive statistical analysis of the survey data was performed using SPSS version 23 and qualitative data from both study components were uploaded to NVivo 11 and analysed thematically.

Parents were counseled on the need for treatment to arrest the progression of precocious puberty but yet to respond because of financial constraint after 2 years of diagnosis. Female precocious puberty is ten times more common than male precocious puberty. The aetiology is idiopathic in 90% of cases and It is amenable to treatment. Integration of the investigation and treatment of childhood endocrine disorders into the National Health Insurance scheme will be a great panacea to the challenge of prompt management in developing countries.. Jagatsinghpur, Sept 21 (LocalWire): The health system in the rural areas of Naugaon block is ailing due to the non-implementation of different schemes under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) owing to negligence and callous attitude of health officials. Shortage of doctors and paramedical staff have added to the woes of the rural people. Skilled personnel are unwilling to work in remote areas of the district due to lack of infrastructure and limited accommodation. As vacant posts have not been filled, the workload on the existing staff has increased manifold.. Nearly one lakh people of 16 panchayats depend on the Naugaon community health centre for treatment but patients are disgruntled and complain of negligence of health department officials and the administration. The 16-bedded CHC is supposed to have four specialist doctors looking after patients but all are lying vacant.. by Ross Eisenbrey When the Clinton administration tackled health care reform in 1993, Canadas national health care system-which operates without a private insurance industry-was held up as a model by progressives and a disaster by conservatives. The United States rejected any positive lessons from the Canadian single-payer model in 1993, and we are living with the results of that decision today. As the chart below reveals, the cost gap between the United States and Canada has only widened since 1993, and per capita health care expenditures in the United States are now almost double those in Canada ($6,401 vs. $3,359). Canadas per capita health expenditures rose about 65% from 1993 to 2005, while costs in the United States rose by over 90%. ...

Studies indicate that about 60 countries all over the world are using SHI as the predominant method for raising money for health services.27 countries have achieved universal coverage for their populations through this method.. In recent times, multilateral and bilateral organisations, such as the WHO, World Bank, and the German Agency for Technical Cooperation, have been promoting social health insurance as an alternative way to mobilise additional funds for the health system especially in developing countries. They suggest that SHI is a suitable alternative when low-income countries do not have adequate tax revenues to fund health care of reasonable quality for everybody.. Here, the target is to utilise public funds to subsidise premiums for health services, thereby shifting public subsidies from supply side to the demand side to improve efficiency and quality of health services. In fact, the World Health Assembly adopted a resolution recommending SHI as an effective strategy for financing ...
