Today, more than 100 Jehovahs Witnesses in wool coats and soggy boots gathered silently outside the courtroom doors. Many said they were prepared to wait as long as it takes for the judge to reach a resolution, even weeks.. We cherish our truth, said Lena Sijanova, 27, who joined the Jehovahs Witnesses with her mother, and they are trying to take it away. But you cannot forbid peoples right to their faith because that right comes only from God.. According to the complaint filed by a Moscow district prosecutor, the Jehovahs Witnesses have violated the 1997 law by preaching religious discrimination, breaking up families, withholding medical treatment -- all in the name of their one true religion. After an exhaustive textual analysis of literature disseminated by the Witnesses door-to-door proselytizers, the prosecutors concluded that overseers in Russia and abroad not only control the spiritual environment of the congregation, but also subject the manner of life, thinking, ...

About 16 years ago, I had the privilege to travel to Russia. Our trip involved a couple of days in Vladivostok, a city in the Far Eastern part of Russian, on the border of China, as well as a day in Moscow. The trip between Vladivostok and Moscow covers 10 time zones, resulting in our arriving at essentially the same time as we left, even though we were in the air for about 10 hours!. During our brief trip to Russia, I was impressed with the size of the country, its rugged beauty, its cold, and its need. A missionary there told us of the challenges he faced in sharing the gospel and the spiritual darkness that exists across much of the land.. There was a time that Russia was wide open to missionaries and to Christian work. It seems that now the doors are less and less open. But we need to be praying for this country, for the believers that are there, for the doors to open, and for laborers to be able to take the gospel to the nearly 150 million people that need Jesus.. Here are a few statistics ...
Member of the Syrian National Coalitions political committee Michel Kilo said that Russias announcement of a so-called eight-hour humanitarian pause in Aleppo on Monday is a gimmick aimed at crushing the rebels resistance and quashing the revolution.. Kilo said Russia and the Assad regime are determined to pursue a military solution to the conflict, adding that Moscow is using new destructive weapons in its onslaught on Aleppo, including the use of bunker-buster bombs against civilians in populated areas.. The veteran opposition figure stressed that the political deadlock in Syria has left Russia internationally isolated, therefore Moscow is trying to end this isolation by showing willingness to halt the bombing of Aleppo for just few hours. Such false gestures of goodwill are meant to give the impression that Russian and the Assad regime are not bent on pursuing a military solution, despite their continual escalation of military operations across Syria.. In the aftermath of the 2011 Arab Spring uprisings, great power competition has returned to the Middle East. Russia in particular has sought to exploit U.S. policy blunders and retrenchment (real or perceived) in order to push for greater regional multipolarity. While it is easy to understand why regional states outside of the U.S. camp, such as Iran or Syria, would turn to Moscow as a way to hedge against the United States, of particular concern for this analysis is how supposed U.S. allies-those regional states firmly within the U.S. camp-are using the return of great power competition for their own domestic and geopolitical purposes. Therefore, this analysis examines Russias return to the region through the lens of what is commonly referred to as the Counterrevolutionary Bloc (CRB), consisting of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), post-2013 Egypt and Israel, which has emerged as the dominant regional coalition following the Arab Uprisings.. Moscows presence is the Middle ...

Lithuanian lands were united under MINDAUGAS in 1236; over the next century, through alliances and conquest, Lithuania extended its territory to include most of present-day Belarus and Ukraine. By the end of the 14th century Lithuania was the largest state in Europe. An alliance with Poland in 1386 led the two countries into a union through the person of a common ruler. In 1569, Lithuania and Poland formally united into a single dual state, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. This entity survived until 1795 when its remnants were partitioned by surrounding countries. Lithuania regained its independence following World War I but was annexed by the USSR in 1940 - an action never recognized by the US and many other countries. On 11 March 1990, Lithuania became the first of the Soviet republics to declare its independence, but Moscow did not recognize this proclamation until September of 1991 (following the abortive coup in Moscow). The last Russian troops withdrew in 1993. Lithuania subsequently ...

Hesitating a moment in her temporary cage, Burns took to the skies over Moscow, stopping briefly to rest in a nearby tree.. She should have a territory here, said Dr. Nickol Finch, who heads up the Raptor Rehabilitation Program at WSU. She was found very close by. We were able to get her out quick enough, hopefully no ...
The Ginger People Ginger Beer. Giant ginger flavor and a kick of spice that warms the throat make this very cloudy and decidedly citrusy beer an excellent pick. A 12-ounce bottle has 148 calories, 36 g sugar. $1.99 at Cost Plus. (3 stars). Hollows & Fentimans Ginger Beer. Curiosity is the best reason to buy this expensive ginger beer from the UK. Its an interesting blend of botanicals fermented into a low-alcohol beer that has a touch of ginger, but not too much. It has personality, but might be better sipped straight, rather than used as a mixer. A 16.9-ounce bottle has 330 calories, 53 g sugar. $5.99 per bottle at Whole Foods. (3 stars). Goslings Ginger Beer. Even though this bargain-priced beer is a bit too sweet, it delivers a clean hit of mildly spicy ginger, making it a better-than-average mixer. RIA Novosti. 18:01 10/04/2013. MOSCOW, April 10 (RIA Novosti) - European Union embassies in the North Korea will remain open for business, despite a proposal from Pyongyang for them to evacuate staff over mounting tensions on the Korean Peninsula, the UKs Foreign Office said on Wednesday.. The EU does not share the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea (DPRK) views on the current situation and does not recognize the nature of threat as described, the EU statement read.. North Korea proposed on Tuesday that foreign embassies evacuate, saying it could not guarantee their safety after April 10.. There have been no evacuations, however.. The North Korean proposal came shortly after the isolated north-east Asian country threatened to launch nuclear attacks on both the US mainland and American military bases in the region.. South Koreas foreign minister said on Wednesday Pyongyang could carry out a test firing of an intermediate-range ballistic missile at any time.. The North Korean threats came ...
During the cold war period, a four-fold excess of cancer cases was diagnosed among the staff of the American Embassy in Moscow that had been secretly irradiated with microwaves at well below the threshold set in current guidelines. The US State Department study on this episode was described in a paper published in 1997 [5]. This was among the earliest evidence for non-thermal effects of microwaves, and many studies are now confirming the high cancer risks of people exposed to microwaves from mobile phone base stations and transmitters around the world. Microwaves are no different from EMRs in the lower frequency range in that respect; except that microwaves may be even more potent in promoting cancer and other illnesses [6] (Drowning in a Sea of Microwaves, the Wi-Fi Revolution, SiS 34 ...

Four years after Russias annexation of Crimea, it is more than obvious that the peninsula has been forcibly integrated into the contemporary Russian identity. All achievements claimed by Moscow since March 2014 are linked to the reunification of Crimea with Russia. Precisely because of that, the date of the 2018 Russian presidential election was chosen to be March 18. It is intended to symbolically send a message to the Russian electorate that March 18, 2014, was the day when Russia became great again. From the very outset, Vladimir Putin has taken full responsibility for the Crimean operation in 2014. Thus, March 18 is, in a way, the day when the president demonstrated his strong will. It is not merely a coincidence that Putin visited Crimea on March 14 (Kremlin.ru, March 14) and may even be going to Sevastopol on Election Day (Sevoborona.info, March 11).. The upcoming election raises two main critical questions. First, is the matter of legitimacy of the election, and second-the role of ...

Sudans interim government is having second thoughts about a deal that would allow Russia to establish a naval base on the Red Sea.. The deal is now under review to ensure it serve[s] Sudans interests, Sudanese officials informed a Russian delegation to Khartoum last week, said armed forces Chief of Staff Gen. Mohamed Othman al-Hussein in an interview with Sudans Blue Nile TV last night.. The deal, released by Moscow late last year, would allow Russias navy to maintain a 25-year lease at Port Sudan, housing up to four ships and 300 soldiers, in exchange for weapons and military equipment for Khartoum.. Russia claims the planned base would be for basic resupply and repairs, but the agreement also allows Russia to move any weapons, ammunition and equipment necessary through the port.. Sudans ousted dictator Omar al-Bashir initially discussed the agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2017.. At the moment, we are negotiating a possible review of this agreement to ensure that ...
Russia and Ukraine held simultaneous military drills on Wednesday as NATO foreign and defence ministers began emergency discussions on a massing of Russian troops near the Ukrainian border. Washington and NATO have been alarmed by the large build-up of Russian troops near Ukraine and in Crimea, the peninsula that Moscow annexed from Ukraine in 2014, and two U.S. warships are due to arrive in the Black Sea this week.

Officials at the US-led alliance are still smarting from Russias weekend incursions into Turkish airspace, near northern Syria, and NATO defense ministers are meeting in Brussels, with the agenda likely to be dominated by the Syria crisis.. NATO is ready and able to defend all allies, including Turkey against any threats, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg told reporters as he arrived for the meeting.. NATO has already responded by increasing our capacity, our ability, our preparedness to deploy forces including to the south, including in Turkey, he said, noting that Russias air and cruise missile strikes were reasons for concern.. In modern ecclesiastical practice of the Eastern Orthodox Church, the title of exarch was often used to designate the highest hierarchical office under the rank of patriarch. When Russian Patriarch Adrian of Moscow died in 1700, Emperor Peter the Great abolished the patriarchal office and appointed Metropolitan Stefan Yavorsky as exarch and head of the governing council of the Russian Orthodox Church. After imperial Russia annexed Georgia (eastern part in 1801, and western part in 1810), the ancient Georgian Orthodox Church (autocephalous since 750, whose head was since 1008 styled Catholicos-Patriarchs) was reorganized into Georgian Exarchate, and the newly appointed Exarch of Georgia (since 1817 always an ethnic Russian) sat in the Russian Holy Synod at St. Petersburg.[5] Since the entire region of Caucasus fell under the Russian rule, jurisdiction of Georgian Exarchate was expanded, encompassing territories of modern-day Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. On 7 April 1917, the Georgian ...
1230 views. WASHINGTON. Russia hacked into Republican state political campaigns and old email domains of the Republican National Committee but there is no evidence it successfully penetrated President-elect Donald Trumps campaign, FBI Director James Comey said on Tuesday.. Comey also told lawmakers Russia did not release information obtained from the state campaigns or the old RNC email domains, comments that may buttress the U.S. intelligence view that Moscow tried to help Trump against Democrat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 campaign.. U.S. intelligence agencies on Friday released an assessment that Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a covert effort to help Republican Trumps electoral chances by discrediting Clinton.. The report, which omitted classified details, was the U.S. governments starkest public description of what it says was a Russian effort to manipulate the American electoral process by leaking hacked emails from Democrats.. Russia has denied interfering in the election but ...
The reader learns that the creation of art was not a one-way street for Russian artists and audiences, but rather an exercise to reconcile Russian identity too. Russian Orientalism portraying Central Asians through stereotypes, such as with watermelons and attached to the land, helped Russians situate themselves in their limbo position between the East and the West. An interesting medley of the Russian Self and Asian Other is Alexander Volkov: born in Turkestan (the former name of the Central Asian territories) and educated in St Petersburg and Kiev, he immersed himself in Central Asian culture for many decades far from the reach of Moscow. His work stands out as not being concerned with a unity of nations or modernisation, but rather for that rare thing other Soviet artists were unprepared to show: the effort and associated stresses incurred by Central Asian labour to propel modernisation. The works do not openly talk about the Soviet nature of the exertion; but even acknowledging such toil ...

Secular changes of body measurements in children have been the subject of studies in many different countries. In recent years, there has been an increase in BMI associated with a significant trend towards obesity in both Europe and the US. The aim of the present study was to analyze trends in body measurements and BMI in Russia from the 1960s to the beginning of the 21st century. This was done at three locations of the Russian Federation: the city of Moscow, the cities of Saratov and Naberezhnye Chelny in the Volga-river area. In addition, data on secular changes of Abkhazian children were analyzed. A large number of anthropometric measurements were taken on each individual including height, weight, arm, leg and trunk lengths (estimated), body diameters and circumferences, skinfold thickness, head and face dimensions. Stages of secondary sex characteristics also were evaluated; data on menarcheal age were collected by status-quo and retrospective methods. Changes in hand grip strength have ...
In the past decade, Beijing and Moscow have been more competitors than partners. But that relationship may now be changing as Russian and Chinese leaders are considering combining their two countries regional economic projects - the Eurasian Economic Union and the Silk Road Economic Belt, respectively.. While meeting at a two-day summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Ufa, Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping are reportedly discussing a framework that would merge Chinas multi-billion dollar network of roads, railways, and pipelines through Central Asia with the Eurasian Union, the post-Soviet economic bloc that includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia. The two projects would be combined under the auspices of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and if the proposal is completed, it would make the opaque organization the preeminent economic body from Shanghai to St. Petersburg.. For the first time there is a working group ...
1283 views. WASHINGTON. President-elect Donald Trump voiced new doubts on Wednesday that Russian hackers attempted to influence the U.S. election on his behalf, saying WikiLeaks had denied Moscow was behind documents it made public during the campaign.. Trump, writing on Twitter, continued to raise questions about the findings by U.S. intelligence agencies that Russia was behind a series of leaks that embarrassed Democratic candidate Hillary Clintons campaign before the Nov. 8 vote.. The tweets prompted White House spokesman Josh Earnest to ask, Who are you going to believe?. Documents stolen from the Democratic National Committee and John Podesta, Clintons campaign manager, were leaked to the media in advance of the election. One email showed the Clinton campaign received a question in advance of a town hall forum.. Trump resumed sending notes on Twitter about the hacking issue on Wednesday, saying, (WikiLeaks founder) Julian Assange said a 14 year old could have hacked Podesta - why was ...
During the Reagan administration, I was one of the CIA analysts assigned to present to White House officials the Presidents Daily Brief, which summed up the CIAs views on the pressing national security issues of the day. If I were still in that job - and assuming CIA analysts are still able to speak truth to power - I am afraid that I would be delivering alarming news about the potential of a U.S.-Russian military clash.. We analysts were responsible for picking up warnings from Moscow and other key capitals that the U.S. news media often missed or downplayed, much as the major news outlets today are ignoring the escalation of warnings from Russia over Syria.. For instance, Russian defense spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov warned on Oct. 6 that Russia is prepared to shoot down unidentified aircraft - including any stealth aircraft - over Syria. It is a warning that I believe should be taken seriously.. Its true that experts differ as to whether the advanced air defense systems already in ...
In 1921 the Communist Government in Russia, in secret, sent the German-born Jew, Karl Radek, (original name Bernhardovich Sobelsohn and born 1885 in Lemberg) as its contact man between the German Government and the Communists. This was done one year before Germany and Russia formally signed a peace treaty in Rapallo, Italy . Karl Radek then worked out a secret agreement, in which Germany would be allowed to station troops in Russia to circumvent the Versailles treaty. In return, the Germans would lead the build up of the new Russian navy and rebuild the Russian army. The German military chief of staff at that time was General Hans von Seeckt, who oversaw this new secret treaty. A special secret command center was set up within the German military staff, code named Special Group R. A satellite office was opened in Moscow, staffed by Germans. Von Seeckt planned a German army of 63 divisions, around 945,000 men. Large training centers were built in the Ukraine, where Russian and German troops ...
The grandeur of the Czars, the brutality of Soviet regime, the literary masterpieces baring the Russian soul, and the onion domes of the cathedrals all have captivated the imagination of generations of travellers. Now Russia is shedding its Soviet past and creating itself anew. The palaces, cathedrals, and statues are all still there. But todays Russia is cynical and hip and full of contrasts. Trendy art galleries replaced the Soviet factories in many cities and fierce capitalism has created the wildly rich. More billionaires live in Moscow today than anywhere else, where restaurants, nightclubs and shops have taken luxury to a new level. In the new Russia, it seems anything is possible.. ...
Russia exercised its right of veto to block a US-drafted resolution to extend the mandate of the international commission of inquiry on Syria, after the resolution had 11 votes in favour by members of the UN Security Council.. This is the tenth Russian veto to prevent a resolution that could convict or result in the conviction of the Syrian regime. On 24/10/2017 Moscow had cast the 9th veto against another US- drafted resolution seeking to extend the mandate of the International Commission investigating the chemical attacks in Syria.. The commission works to determine the responsible party for the chemical attacks in Syria. The commissions mandate the Security Council had issued in 2015, expires on Friday. Today, Friday 17/11/2017, Japan submitted a draft resolution to extend the work of the commision by one month, in order to ensure the continuation of the commissions work as usual during the process of negotiations between the US and Russia.. These findings highlight Russias desire to ...
Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov (Russian: Алекса́ндр Васи́льевич Суво́ров, r Aleksandr Vasilevich Suvorov; 24 November [O.S. 13 November] 1729 or 1730 - 18 May [O.S. 6 May] 1800) was a Russian military leader, considered a national hero. He was the Count of Rymnik, Count of the Holy Roman Empire, Prince of Italy, and the last Generalissimo of the Russian Empire. Suvorov was born in Moscow in 1729. He studied military history as a young boy and joined the Imperial Russian Army at the age of 17. During the Seven Years War he was promoted to colonel in 1762 for his success on the battlefield. When war broke out with the Bar Confederation in 1768, Suvorov captured Krakow and defeated the Poles at Lanckorona and Stołowicze, bringing about the start of the Partitions of Poland. He was promoted to general and next fought in the Russo-Turkish War of 1768-1774, winning a decisive victory at the Battle of Kozludzha. Becoming the General of the Infantry in 1786, he commanded ...
By Dave Majumdar. The United States is willing to work jointly with Russia to conduct stability operations in a post-ISIS Syria. Those stability measures could include jointly monitored no-fly zones and cease-fire observation missions. But exactly how such arrangements might be implemented are likely to be the subject of intense negotiations-and could be derailed by wayward proxies on the ground.. The United States and Russia have previously worked together during peacekeeping operations in the Balkans during the 1990s, but Moscow is not likely to be as willing to make the same kinds of concessions today that Boris Yeltsins government did when the Kremlins power was at a near historic low point. Todays Russia under the leadership of Vladimir Putin is much more likely to demand an equal partnership in Syria than the severely weakened state that emerged in the aftermath of the Soviet Unions collapse.. The United States is prepared to explore the possibility of establishing with Russia joint ...
Coming within a week of President Bashar al-Assads gung-ho speech in the Syrian parliament in Damascus last Wednesday where he called for a total military victory, the Russian commentary amounts to a sober reality check.. It stands to reason that Moscow does not share the enthusiasm and confidence exuded by Tehran and Damascus about the overall ground situation. Plainly put, Russia is hedging, while Damascus and Tehran are raring to go.. The Russian preference for a ceasefire is understandable. Iran and Syria, on the other hand, are of the view that the ceasefire only helped the opposition to recoup and regain some lost territories.. Indeed, it is only Russian support that enabled the Syrian government to consolidate its control over much of Damascus, Homs and Hama and gain control over territories around Aleppo. The regime cannot hope to deliver a decisive blow to the opposition except in the western regions of the country.. Equally, Russia will be called upon to bear the cost of any attempt ...
YEREVN (Azatutyun.am)-Russia hopes that its close relationship with Armenia will remain unchanged after the political crisis in that country is resolved, a spokesman for President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday.. We still hope that all processes in Armenia will remain within the constitutional and legal frames, Dmitry Peskov told reporters. We wish our Armenian friends a maximally quick settlement of the existing political situation.. We also hope that in any case the allied, warm and constructive Russian-Armenian relations will remain a constant for both the foreign policy of our country and the foreign policy of Yerevan, he said, according to Russian news agencies.. For instance, the Pentagons recent decision to halt military exercises with Arab allies came just a day after King Salmans trip to Russia began. Though the decision was advertised as having been intended to rebuke the Saudis and their closest allies for their on-going spat with Qatar, the fact that the announcement coincided with the Saudis visiting Russia - and came several months after the diplomatic crisis with Qatar began - suggests an ulterior motive. The U.S. also quickly approved the sale of the advanced Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system to the Saudis for $15 billion. The approval of the THAAD purchase also came the day after it was announced that the Saudis had agreed to buy an air defense system from Russia ...
Russias offensive against Georgia, ostensibly over the rights of the breakaway Georgian province of South Ossetia, continues unabated, despite worldwide pleas for a ceasefire: http://www.philly.com/inquirer/front_page/20080811_Analysis__U_S__has_few_moves_against_Russia_.html. I used the word rights because I think that Russia is trying to make a much bigger point than just that it cares about Russian natives in South Ossetia. It is telling everyone of those breakaway republics that were part of the old Soviet Union that theyre really not very safe, and that if they think that NATO is going to come to their rescue, they are sadly mistaken. No one had any illusions that the Georgian military would be able to provide much of an opposition to the Russian army, including I am certain the Georgians (hence their desire to join NATO). So, the messages here are for the Ukraine, the Baltic states, etc.: 1) Tow Moscows line or face the consequences; 2) Dont count on help from the United States ...
Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus (CGMMV), a member of the Tobamovirus genus, causes a severe disease of cucurbits. In the Moscow region of Russian Federation, the incidence of infection on cucumber plants in greenhouses is high; however, the virus is poorly studied. In this work, the full-length genomes of two pathogenic MC-1 and MC-2 strains of CGMMV isolated from cucumber plants grown in greenhouses in the Moscow region and the attenuated VIROG-43M strain were sequenced. Comparison of VIROG-43M nucleotide sequence with those of the pathogenic strains revealed three missense mutations. Their role in attenuation is discussed. For the first time, in a number of trials conducted under laboratory conditions and in commercial greenhouses, the efficiency of the attenuated VIROG-43M strain as a biocontrol agent for cucumber plant protection resulting in significant yield gain was demonstrated. Phylogenetic analysis with 83 full-length CGMMV coat protein genes isolated in 16 different countries showed that
Staunton, December 24 - Ethnic Russians living in Latvia and Lithuania view themselves as a community and respect Russian culture but consider their native home to be the countries where they live rather than Russia, and this is true even of those born in Russia or who are not citizens of their countries of residence, according to a new study.. The study, entitled The Identity of the Russian Ethnic Group and Its Expression in Lithuania and Latvia, was prepared by Arvidas Matiulionis of the Institute of Sociology of Lithuania and Monika Frejute-Rakauskiene of Ethnic Research of Lithuania, has been published in Mir Rossii: Sotsiologiya, Etnologiya of the Moscow Higher School of Economics.. The two scholars compared the ethnic self-definitions and identities of the Russian ethnic group in Lithuania and Latvia. They defined ethnicity as a community or identity based on common origin and a feeling of solidarity, as opposed to a people which they argue is to a greater extent connected with ...

On March 7 Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimukhamedov met Igor Makarov, the CEO of Russian gas trader Itera. During the meeting Makarov reiterated Iteras interest in expanded cooperation with Turkmenistan. He also suggested that Zarit, a joint venture founded by Itera and Russian state-run companies Zarubezhneft and Rosneft, could join the development of onshore and offshore oil and gas fields in Turkmenistan. Berdimukhamedov reportedly supported these proposals and urged Itera to hold detailed talks with the Turkmen government (Turkmenistan.ru, March 7).. Zarit was registered in Moscow in May 2002 as a joint venture between Rosneft, Iteras subsidiary Gazkhiminvest (each controlled 37% of Zarit), and Zarubezhneft, which held the remaining 26% stake. The consortium reportedly aimed to attract Turkmen state-owned Turkmenneft and Turkmenneftegas as well as Iranian firms to help develop gas fields on Turkmen shelf of the Caspian Sea.. In December 2003 Zarit was due to sign a 25-year ...

MOSCOW (AP) - Smoke alarms went off at the Russian segment of the International Space Station in the early hours of Thursday, and the crew reported noticing smoke and the smell of burnt plastic. Russias space agency Roscosmos said the incident took place in the Russian-built Zvezda module and occurred as the stations batteries were being recharged. According to Roscosmos, the crew activated air filters and returned to their night rest once the air quality was back to normal. The crew will proceed with a space walk Thursday as planned, the agency noted. The space station is currently operated by NASA astronauts Mark Vande Hei, Shane Kimbrough and Megan McArthur; Oleg Novitsky and Pyotr Dubrov of Russias Roscosmos; Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Akihiko Hoshide, and European Space Agency astronaut Thomas Pesquet.. Novitsky and Dubrov are scheduled to carry out a six-hour-long space walk on Thursday to continue integrating the Russian-built Nauka science lab that docked with the ...
Alastair Crooke, Consortium News, 20 Sept 2016. As a fragile and partial cease-fire in Syria totters, the back story is the political warfare in Washington where powerful hawks seek to escalate both the war in Syria and the New Cold War with Russia, ex-British diplomat Alastair Crooke explains.. Does the failure of the U.S.-backed, major insurgent August push on Aleppo - and the terms of the consequent ceasefire, to which some in the U.S. only irascibly agreed - constitute a political defeat for the U.S. and a win for Russia?. Yes, in one way: Moscow may, (just may) have cornered America into joint military air attacks on Al Qaeda in Syria, but in another way, one would have to be somewhat cautious in suggesting a Russian win (although Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrovs diplomacy has been indeed tenacious).. Secretary of State John Kerrys Syria agreement with Lavrov though, has sparked virtual open warfare in Washington. The Cold War Bloc, which includes Defense Secretary Ash Carter and ...

Azerbaijan - a nation with a majority-Turkic and majority-Shia Muslim population - was briefly independent (from 1918 to 1920) following the collapse of the Russian Empire; it was subsequently incorporated into the Soviet Union for seven decades. Azerbaijan has yet to resolve its conflict with Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh, a primarily ethnic Armenian-populated region that Moscow recognized in 1923 as an autonomous republic within Soviet Azerbaijan after Armenia and Azerbaijan disputed the territorys status. Armenia and Azerbaijan reignited their dispute over the area in 1988; the struggle escalated militarily after both countries attained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. By May 1994, when a cease-fire took hold, ethnic Armenian forces held not only Nagorno-Karabakh but also seven surrounding provinces in the territory of Azerbaijan. The OSCE Minsk Group, co-chaired by the US, France, and Russia, is the framework established to mediate a peaceful resolution of the conflict. ...

The issue is edited by Dr. John Abrahamson of Canterbury University in New Zealand. Different but strongly held theories of ball lightning are a feature of this theme collection, says Dr. Abrahamson. All can relate to the wide range of properties ascribed to ball lightning and make stimulating reading. The three main theorists, all who have also done experimental work, are David Turner (an English physical chemist based in the US), Vladimir Bychkov (a Russian physicist based in Moscow) and myself (a chemical engineer). We have all seen each other`s contributions and have commented on them to each other, with the comments sometimes inserted into the papers in this collection. This critical confrontation has forced us all to broaden our thinking and some new insights have come up in the process. The different models presented consider hydrated ions/ water droplets, polymer threads and metal nanoparticle chains as components of ball lightning. The corresponding energy releases are through ion ...
Azithromycin has been widely used for Mycoplasma genitalium treatment internationally. However, the eradication efficacy has substantially declined recent decade. In Russia, josamycin (another macrolide) is the recommended first-line treatment for M. genitalium infections, however, no data regarding treatment efficacy with josamycin and resistance in M. genitalium infections have been internationally published. We examined the M. genitalium prevalence in males attending an STI clinic in Moscow, Russia from December 2006 to January 2008, investigated treatment efficacy with josamycin in male urethritis, and monitored the M. genitalium DNA eradication dynamics and selection of macrolide resistance in M. genitalium during this treatment. Microscopy and real-time PCRs were used to diagnose urethritis and non-viral STIs, respectively, in males (n = 320). M. genitalium positive patients were treated with recommended josamycin regimen and treatment efficacy was monitored using quantitative real-time PCR.

In some countries, various types of womens wrestling began to be cultivated long before its official recognition.. In the Soviet Union, it was born on the initiative of the Honored Trainer of the USSR L.B. Turilina, who trained athletes in sambo wrestling. In 1959-1960, the USSR champion in sambo, academician G.S. Tumanyan, organized a special course in combat sambo for students of the law faculty of Moscow State University. However, this initiative was not supported by the official authorities, although international judo and sambo tournaments were already held at that time. Womens wrestling as such was officially recognized in the USSR only in 1990, and already in 1991 ten Soviet sambo wrestlers took part in the World Cup, and all ten took first places.. Womens judo began to develop widely after the first womens world championship in 1980. Ten years later, the first girls world championship was held under the auspices of the International Judo Federation, in which teams from 40 countries ...
The objective of this study was to assess impacts of air temperature, barometric pressure and geomagnetic activity on hospitalizations with myocardial infarctions and brain strokes. We studied 2,833 myocardial infarctions and 1,096 brain strokes registered in two Moscow hospitals between 1992 and 2005. ….The number of myocardial infarctions decreased with temperature, displayed a U-shaped relationship with pressure and variations in pressure, and increased with geomagnetic activity. The number of strokes increased with temperature, daily temperature range and geomagnetic activity. Detrimental effects on strokes of low pressure and falling pressure were observed. Relative risks of infarctions and strokes during geomagnetic storms were 1.29 (95 % CI 1.19-1.40) and 1.25 (1.10-1.42), respectively. The number of strokes doubled during cold spells. The influence of barometric pressure on hospitalizations was relatively greater than the influence of geomagnetic activity, and the influence of ...

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, terrorists fired two mortar shells at the Russian Embassy in Damascus on Friday. One shell exploded near the entrance to the diplomatic mission. No one was injured, but material damage has been inflicted on the building, and four cars were damaged as well. Fire was opened from the Jobar district which remains under control of anti-government forces.. I am confident that the shelling of the Russian embassy by militants is an attempt to provoke Russia, to disrupt the humanitarian pause, Klintsevich said. He added that the provocation will fail because Russia will continue to observe the humanitarian pause until the very end. There can be no option of making any concessions to terrorists. This is both a political and military decision, a decision from the position of force, he noted.. The decision to extend the humanitarian pause in Aleppo should be considered in the framework of Russian President Vladimir Putins speech at the Valdai discussion ...

BACKGROUND Rural-to-urban migration involves a high proportion of females because job opportunities for female migrants have increased in urban industrial areas.
