Inhibition systems of proteins kinase N (Pkb)/Akt and its outcomes on related cell signaling were investigated in human being umbilical wire bloodstream come cells (hUCBSCs) exposed to monocrotophos (MCP, an organophosphate pesticide). of such pAkt inhibition was verified by improved port deoxynucleotide transferase dUTP nick-end labeling positive cells, decreased mitochondrial membrane layer potential, and the activation of various MAPKs, proapoptotic markers-Bax, and caspases-9/3. Our data demonstrate that Akt1 plays a key role in MCP-induced apoptosis in hUCBSCs. We also identified that such cellular responses of human cord blood stem cells against MCP were due to strong binding and inhibition of kinase and AGC-Kinase-C terminal 732983-37-8 regulatory domains of Akt1. Introduction Protein kinase B (Pkb)/Akt, a serine/threonine-specific kinase, has a role in the regulation of multiple cellular processes that includes cell survival, cell proliferation, apoptosis, and glucose metabolism [1C3]. ...

Some of the farmers spray same insecticide frequently, if it gives a good result e.g. a mixture of acephate + monocrotophos is very popular in the farming community as this mixture makes the cotton plant turn green. This change may lead many issues like life span of cotton crop is extent and it invite or increases the incidence of pink bollworm and at the same time, sucking insects also increase.  Spraying of same insecticide repeatedly and if that insecticide is not safer to the natural enemies, definitely it results in drastically reduction of predators/ parasites.  Often use of same insecticide invites some of the disease in crop e.g. use of synthetic pyrethroids (name of insecticide suffix with thrin e.g. cypermethrin, fenpropathrin, permethrin etc.) repeatedly in cotton causing the incidence of alternaria.  Continuous spraying of same insecticides with same technical name causing changes in genetic properties of insect pests and resistance is developed in those insect pests ...

In 1997 Rwanda introduced a re-settlement policy for refugees displaced during previous conflicts. We exploit geographic variation in the speed of implementation of this policy to investigate the impact of conflict-induced displacement and the re-settlement policy on household agricultural output and on skill spill-over mechanisms between returnees and stayers. We find that returns to on- farm labour are higher for returnees relative to stayers, although the evidence suggests that the policy contributed little additional effect to this differential. More speculatively, these differentials suggest that, upon return from conflict-induced exile, returnees are more motivated to increase their economic performance.. ...
These figures imply that between 1948 and 1994 US agricultural output per hour rose at an average rate of 4.6% per annum, a more than nine fold increase over the span of fifty years. This surge in agricultural labor productivity is attributable to steadily improving yields and an increase in the acreage cultivated per hour. For instance, the introduction of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizer, combined with higher-yielding crop varieties raised the amount of potatoes per harvested acre by a factor of almost 2.5 between 1948 and 1994 (US Department of Agriculture, 2000). Similarly, the number of acres cultivated per hour has been raised dramatically by the mechanization of agriculture, at an average annual rate of about 3%. As agricultural labor became more productive, the numbers of annual hours per worker as well as the number of workers were cut without curtailing agricultural output. Although annual hours per agricultural worker declined by 1% per year, the number of agricultural workers ...

Drought and floods play havoc with Indian agriculture. In India, agriculture has always been dependent on nature. It still remains highly sensitive to the vagaries of weather. Droughts in various parts of the country in recent years have sufficiently proved that if rain Gods decides to play truant with India, then the farmers can do nothing but helplessly watch their crops wither away. Although we no longer experience the kind of devastating famines which occurred during the British Raj - thanks to the agricultural productivity, sustained economic growth and food security system developed in the country - the agricultural output still remains at the mercy of natural forces.. The last few years have been very unkind to the farmers. While there is a serious drought in one part of the country, the other parts suffer untold misery due to abnormal rainfall resulting in floods. A run of four poor monsoons, freaky weather conditions culminated in one of the worst droughts in 1987 when out of 35 ...
The Wall Street Journal By Abhrajit Gangopadhyay July 28, 2009www.wsj.com NEW DELHI -- An unusually dry start to Indias monsoon season is threatening to hurt agricultural output in an economy still hugely dependent on rural areas for growth. John Holdren, chief advisor to the President, said in a White House video release: But a growing body of evidence suggests that the kind of extreme cold being experienced by much of the United States as we speak is a pattern that we can expect to see with increasing frequency as global warming continues.. Research ship passengers were also rescued in January. The ship had been locked in ice for 10 days near the arctic coast. It was carrying out research to study how the Antarctica weather was changing due to the effects of global warming.. United Nations released a report on Climate Change in March. Climate Change 2014: Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability was part of the Fifth Assessment Report. The report claimed that the man-made climatic change was going to severely the reduce world agricultural output. One of the authors Dr. Mark Howden said in the report, Theres an increasing set of evidence that climatic change is also having a severe adverse effect on agriculture, especially on ...

The purpose of this project was to measure and estimate the distribution of income in both rural and urban areas of the Peoples Republic of China. The principal investigators based their definition of income on cash payments and on a broad range of additional components: payments in kind valued at market prices, agricultural output produced for self-consumption valued at market prices, the value of ration coupons and other direct subsidies, and the imputed value of housing. The rural component of this collection consists of two data files, one in which the individual is the unit of analysis and a second in which the household is the unit of analysis. Individual rural respondents reported on their employment status, level of education, Communist Party membership, type of employer (e.g., public, private, or foreign), type of economic sector in which employed, occupation, whether they held a second job, retirement status, monthly pension, monthly wage, and other sources of income. Demographic ...
Japan is facing growing resistance to its cannibalised feed-and-seed system, which relies on the growing numbers of cattle and soybeans to feed itself.. As farmers around the country struggle to meet demand from global markets, critics have raised concerns about the environmental and economic damage caused by the feed-in-tariffs.. However, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has insisted that the government is determined to continue growing the countrys agricultural output and to feed the growing population.. There are certain conditions that have to be met before we can begin to eat the cattle and the soybean that we are going to produce, but we are determined to do so, Abe told reporters at the start of his third term as prime minister in December.. Our aim is to produce the worlds most food, and we are trying to do it with the most efficient and the most sustainable production methods possible, he said.. Waste of energyThe new feed-trade regime, which began on 1 January, was hailed by many as ...

Cut flowers are flowers or flower buds (often with some stem and leaf) that have been cut from the plant bearing it. It is usually removed from the plant for decorative use. Typical uses are in vase displays, wreaths and garlands. Many gardeners harvest their own cut flowers from domestic gardens, but there is a significant floral industry for cut flowers in most countries. The plants cropped vary by climate, culture and the level of wealth locally. Often the plants are raised specifically for the purpose, in field or glasshouse growing conditions. Cut flowers can also be harvested from the wild. The cultivation and trade of flowers is a specialization in horticulture, specifically floriculture. A common use is for floristry, usually for decoration inside a house or building. Typically the cut flowers are placed in a vase. A number of similar types of decorations are used, especially in larger buildings and at events such as weddings. These are often decorated with additional foliage. In some ...

Wadi Zabid is one of the main agricultural Wadis in the Tihama Plain. Wide ranges of crops have been cultivated such as cereals, vegetables, fruits, and some cash crops like cotton, sesame and tobacco. It has provided the country with high valued food basket as well as exporting to the neighboring countries. The government realized the importance of Wadi Zabid and started in 1979 constructing diversion works and canals to maximize the agricultural output of the Wadi. During the past twenty years of operations, sediment deposition in front of the diversion works and along the canal system posed serious threats to the project network. Sediment deposition caused many problems such as blocking the off take pipes and gates, raising canal beds and reducing canals slope, increasing the field levels and reducing canal flow capacity. This study would assess the changes in canal sections and profiles at which the present canal profiles and sections are drawn and compared with the canal profiles and ...
This paper integrates soil science variables into an economic analysis of agricultural output among small-scale farmers in Kenyas highlands. The integration is valuable because farmers choice of inputs depends on both the status of the soil and socioeconomic conditions. The study uses a stochastic production frontier in which the individual farms distance to the frontier depends systematically on individual factors. We show the importance of including key soil properties and find that phosphorus has a negative output elasticity, suggesting that farms may be using the wrong fertilizer mix. Hence, the central policy implication is that while fertilizers are generally beneficial, their application needs to be based on better soil information. This highlights the importance of strengthening agricultural extension, increased access to markets and more diversified supply of production inputs. ...

This paper discusses key findings of the 2004 Status Report on Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP) for Niger. The report assesses economic and financial performance, as well as progress in implementing sectoral policies and strategies in 2004. Analysis of the economic and financial situation in 2004 confirms the vulnerability of Nigers economy to the vagaries of the weather, as reflected in a fluctuating rate of economic growth. The growth rate in 2004 was -0.6 percent, versus 3.8 percent in 2003, owing to a drop in agricultural output ...
The United States is one of the largest players in the international agricultural market. With the continued growth of its agricultural output, the US agricultural sector has relied heavily on export markets to maintain its competitiveness and profitability. In fact, projections show the United States will export $137 billion in agricultural commodities in 2020 (Daugherty and Jiang 2019). However, the 2018 trade disruptions with Canada and Mexico that led to a renegotiated, but still unratified NAFTA-like treaty (the USMCA) and the presently unresolved trade dispute between the United States and China have adversely impacted US agricultural exports (Amiti, Redding, and Weinstein 2019; Balistreri et al. 2018; Sumner and Hanon 2018).1 Of concern is how such disruptions might affect the competitive structure of markets. As Balistreri et al. (2018) discuss, disruptions to US grain exports to the former Soviet Union in 1980 had long-run impacts on US export competitiveness. Likewise, as Chen et al. ...

Kenya, the regional hub for trade and finance in East Africa, is hampered by corruption and reliance upon several primary goods whose prices continue to decline. Following strong economic growth in 1995 and 1996, Kenyas economy has stagnated, with GDP growth failing to keep up with the rate of population growth. In 1997, the IMF suspended Kenyas Enhanced Structural Adjustment Program due to the governments failure to maintain reforms and curb corruption. A severe drought from 1999 to 2000 compounded Kenyas problems, causing water and energy rationing and reducing agricultural output. As a result, GDP contracted by 0.3% in 2000. The IMF, which had resumed loans in 2000 to help Kenya through the drought, again halted lending in 2001 when the government failed to institute several anticorruption measures. Despite the return of strong rains in 2001, weak commodity prices, endemic corruption, and low investment limited Kenyas economic growth to 1%, and Kenya is unlikely to see growth above 2% in ...
