Moebius syndrome is a rare birth defect caused by the absence or underdevelopment of the 6th and 7th cranial nerves, which control eye movements and facial expression. Many of the other cranial nerves may also be affected, including the 3rd, 5th, 8th, 9th, 11th and 12th. The first symptom, present at birth, is an inability to suck. Other symptoms can include: feeding, swallowing, and choking problems; excessive drooling; crossed eyes; lack of facial expression; inability to smile; eye sensitivity; motor delays; high or cleft palate; hearing problems and speech difficulties. Children with Moebius syndrome are unable to move their eyes back and forth. Decreased numbers of muscle fibers have been reported. Deformities of the tongue, jaw, and limbs, such as clubfoot and missing or webbed fingers, may also occur. As children get older, lack of facial expression and inability to smile become the dominant visible symptoms. Approximately 30 to 40 percent of children with Moebius syndrome have some ...
Moebius Syndrome is an extremely rare congenital neurological disorder which is characterized by facial paralysis and the inability to move the eyes from side to side. Most people with Moebius Syndrome are born with complete facial paralysis and cannot close their eyes or form facial expressions. Limb and chest wall abnormalities sometimes occur with the syndrome. Most people with M bius syndrome have normal intelligence, although their lack of facial expression is sometimes incorrectly taken to be due to dullness or unfriendliness. It is named for Paul Julius M bius, a neurologist who first described the syndrome in 1888

Mobius Syndrome is a rare congenital genetic disorder involving underdevelopment of cranial nerves VI and VII. Mobius includes aspects of facial paralysis and inability to have patterns of facial expression. Since the majority of classic vestibular assessment protocols e.g. VNG, Vorteq, Rotary Chair utilize the VOR, how then do you evaluate a patient for vestibular function when there is not horizontal eye movement?. Phobic Postural Vertigo is a somatoform disorder that manifests as transient episodes of staggering and grasping for fixed or stationary surfaces, an obsession with ones own balance function and fear and anxiety of falling or inability to independently ambulate. Have you ever been to one of those art museums that has lots of post modern paintings? Particularly I am talking about the ones that show canvases painted solid black or the ones that look like a four-year old splattered paint everywhere. There is a true dichotomy of sentiment that people feel towards these works of art. Some view them as true genius and say they really convey a lot of feeling and emotion to the viewer, while others disregard them as pure crap and feel their true place belongs in a dumpster out in the parking lot. This is the exact same feeling I get from listening to Minus Storys second album Moebius Syndrome. I not only find the album extremely difficult to listen to and review, but the release makes absolutely no sense to me musically. I have absolutely no idea where these guys are coming from. The music itself is extremely sloppy and highly unorganized. Guitars sounds painfully out of tune for the most part, drums barely keep the beat and are anything but clear and crisp, ...

Aufgenommen 2008 in Berlin & Llucmajor. © Klangbad ℗ & Moebius From his early work with the pioneering Krautrock band Cluster to his later solo recordings, Dieter Moebius remained one of the most innovative and prolific voices in contemporary electronic music, anticipating movements from ambient to techno years before the fact. By day a student at Berlins Akademie Grafik, Moebius was moonlighting as a cook at an area restaurant when in 1969 he was befriended by Conrad Schnitzler, a key figure in local avant-garde circles, and invited to join Kluster, a band Schnitzler was forming with fellow underground artist Hans Joachim Roedelius. The trio released their debut LP Klopfzeichen in 1970; in the wake of their third album, 1971s Kluster und Eruption, Schnitzler exited to pursue a solo career, and Moebius and Roedelius continued on as a duo, modifying the name to Cluster. Aluns comment on a post about Moebius strips has a link to a site selling Klein bottles. which are attempts to create a Moebius strip in a bottle format. ( I dont know whether they are Mobius or Moebius strips or whether the o should have dots above it, or even whether the word needs capitals. Its hard enough typing the rather than teh on a regular basis, let alone being consistent with old Dutch/German surnames.). Zeolite commented to say that shes accidentally crocheted a Moebius coffee-cup holder.. You can also find a Moebius dress on yankodesign Its made out of felt, so it doesnt need seams.. This would be more impressive if normal clothes didnt behave as if they had become Moebius strips when you have to put them on in a hurry. Surely Moebius strip topology is built into the design of every quilt cover.. There is a mobius strip bag on Makezine. This is designed to exploit the properties of the Moebius strip by the fact that you can split it down the middle to make a shoulder bag. This ...
Isaac has the very rare Moebius Syndrome and his mother has very kindly allowed us to reproduce an email she sent to our service. As a response to this email, we are in the process of establishing a multidisciplinary team that not only deals with the facial palsy but all aspects of Moebius Syndrome, such as sleep disturbance and limb anomalies.. She outlines her journey in her own words below:. I am not sure if I can begin to describe how difficult our journey has been over the last few years due to Isaacs condition and I am sure this is reflected through many parents experiences. I think the rareness of Isaacs condition adds to the complexity. I will give you a brief summary just so that you understand why such a centre is so important to us.. Isaac was born by caesarean as he was breach. It was a straightforward delivery and all seemed well initially. By the evening we realised he was not feeding and by early hours they took him to special care to be fed by tube. The next day the tube was ...

Multiple cranial nerves may be involved (nerves V, VI, VII, IX, X, and XII can all be affected) and lead to orofacial malformations, abnormalities of tongue coordination, swallowing (bulbar muscle weakness), and drooling. Speech abnormalities are common. High risk for corneal abrasions. Usually the affected individuals are mentally normal. However, there is a 10% incidence of mild mental retardation. Occasionally peripheral neuropathy and pectoral muscle deficiency. Abnormalities of ventilation (central hypoventilation and idiopathic tachypnea) presumably result from brainstem abnormalities. Craniofacial features include micrognathia ...
Bureau B reissues the second collaboration between Dieter Moebius and Karl Renziehausen, originally released in 1992 on the Spanish Nova Era label. Liner notes by Asmus Tietchens. Two years after the release of Ersatz (1990), Moebius and Renziehausen issued Ersatz II as the culmination of their ongoing studio collaboration. It is as meticulously-crafted as Ersatz, dipped in the same luminance and confounds with a similar wealth of musical ideas. And yet Ersatz II does not simply carry on where Ersatz left off. Moebius and Renziehausen composed and improvised quite intuitively on Ersatz, emptying their music of messy ballast, yet adding decorous, delicate detail. This is even more true of Ersatz II, with the marked difference that the music has become even more transparent and the individual tracks shorter in length. The two sound artists reach an almost ascetic level with their unwavering concentration on musical substance and the deliberateness of their creative approach. Almost is the word, ...

By Lynda Jensen. Editor. When little Faith Dressel of Winsted smiles, she cant use her mouth muscles, so instead she uses her eyes.. Dressel is battling a number of birth defects at the age of three months. She is the daughter of Gary and Allyson Dressel.. Faith has Moebius Syndrome, a rare nerve disorder that causes facial paralysis. This means she cant wrinkle her nose, move her eyes side to side or blink as often as other people do, said her mother, Allyson.. Moebius Syndrome is not genetic and the fact that Faith has it is considered a fluke, commented her mother Allyson. It will be a malady that follows Faith through her lifetime.. Other maladies that Faith has been diagnosed with include a small lower jaw, partial cleft palate, and a tendency for her tongue to ball up in the back of her mouth. These defects are known collectively as Pierre Robin Sequence, which are also not genetic. She also has club feet.. The only thing we knew about was the club feet, Allyson said about the time ...

Hepatotoxicity with halothane inhalation has been studied extensively. Risk factors include obesity, female sex, a history of drug allergies, and multiple exposures to anesthetic agents.13-15Anesthetic agents including halothane, enflurane, isoflurane, and desflurane can produce metabolic hepatocellular injury in humans to a variable extent. The likelihood of suffering postoperative immune hepatitis depends on the amount of the anesthetic metabolized and is thereby considerably less with enflurane, isoflurane, or desflurane as compared with halothane.16The extent of cytochrome P-450 2E1-mediated metabolism of fluorogenated anesthetic agents halothane, sevoflurane, isoflurane, and desflurane is reported to be 20%, 2-5%, 0.2-0.6%, and 0.02%, respectively.17In the current case, our patient was exposed to isoflurane on two previous occasions. Although desflurane and isoflurane produce low levels of trifluoroacetylated product formation, this small amount is sufficient to induce hepatotoxicity, ...

Says something about ol Queen Vickie, she doesnt even smile wearing a breathtaking diaphanous moebius knitted by Franklin hisself? Mean, thats what she is. What is special about the face, and what happens when neurological conditions make expression or comprehension of the face unavailable? Through a mix of science, autobiography, case studies, and speculation, Jonathan Cole shows the importance not only of facial expressions for communication among individuals but also of facial embodiment for our sense of self. He presents, in his words, a natural history of the face and an unnatural history of those who live without it.. The heart of the book lies in the experiences of people with facial losses of various kinds. The case studies are of blind, autistic, and neurologically impaired persons; the most extreme case involves Mobius syndrome, in which individuals are born with a total inability to move their facial muscles and hence to make facial expressions. Cole suggests that it is only by studying such personal narratives of loss that we can understand facial function and something of what all our faces reflect.. ...

FUNCTION: [Summary is not available for the mouse gene. This summary is for the human ortholog.] The protein encoded by this gene represents the catalytic subunit of DNA polymerase zeta, which functions in translesion DNA synthesis.
