personality tests, such as the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), might be more sensitive to reflectsubclinical personality and be more state-dependent in an individuals lifetime, so they are good scales to predict thepsychological distress regarding certain states. The aim of this study was to identify the specific pattern between body mass index(BMI) and psychological distress using the objective personality test. We investigated BMI and the Korean Military MultiphasicPersonality Inventory (MPI). A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted with 19-yr-old examinees who were admittedto the Military Manpower Administration in Korea from February 2007 to January 2010. Of 1,088,107 examinees, we enrolled771,408 subjects who were psychologically apparent healthy possible-military-service groups. Afterwards, we reviewed andanalyzed directly measured BMI and MPI results. In terms of the validity scales, the faking-good subscale showed an invertedU-shaped association, and ...

Twenty-seven Parkinsonism patients and 31 controls, matched for age and verbal IQ, were tested on an objectively scored personality test (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory) at the beginning of the patients levodopa therapy and three months later. Patients, but not the controls, were retested after 15 months of levodopa treatment. The patients, all of whom were intact intellectually, obtained MMPI scores indicating moderate depression before beginning levodopa treatment. There was no test evidence to indicate that levodopa significantly increased or decreased the amount of depression in the patients after three or 15 months of levodopa. The patient group, however, significantly increased their Index of Psychopathology (Ip) score after 15 months of levodopa but not after three months.. ...
Mental Health Status of Prisoners in Jail It is recognized that one of the major issues in jail management is responding to the needs of a growing number of inmates with mental health problems. The purpose of this study was to assess the nature and severity of mental health problems among inmate population. The mental health status of 1,500 (1,337 responded) inmates of the 30 prisons located in nationwide area was examined using Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI). And the scores on MMPI were examined in relation to some offender characteristics such as type of offence, treatment classification, frequence of discipline. The result indicates that the percentage of inmate population with scores over 70 on every sub-categories of the scale is higher than that of general populations reflecting high rate of deviation from average normal mental health. It seems likely that many of inmates are in need of specific mental health treatment services. The nature and severity of mental health

Rates of depression and anxiety among young people in America have been increasing steadily for the past 50 to 70 years. Today, by at least some estimates, five to eight times as many high school and college students meet the criteria for diagnosis of major depression and/or anxiety disorder as was true half a century or more ago. This increased psychopathology is not the result of changed diagnostic criteria; it holds even when the measures and criteria are constant. article continues after advertisement The most recent evidence for the sharp generational rise in young peoples depression, anxiety, and other mental disorders comes from a just-released study headed by Jean Twenge at San Diego State University.[1] Twenge and her colleagues took advantage of the fact that the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), a questionnaire used to assess a variety of mental disorders, has been given to large samples of college students throughout the United States going as far back as 1938, and ...
Bipolar disorder usually is diagnosed and treated by a psychiatrist and/or a psychologist. In addition to an interview with the child and her parents, several clinical inventories or scales may be used to assess the patients mental status and determine the presence of bipolar symptoms. These include the Childrens Global Assessment Scale (C-GAS), General Behavior Inventory (GBI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory Adolescent (MMPI-A), the Youth Inventory (YI-4), and the Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS). The tests are verbal and/or written and are administered in both hospital and outpatient settings. Bipolar symptoms often present differently in children and adolescents. Manic episodes in these age groups are typically characterized by more psychotic features than in adults, which may lead to a misdiagnosis of schizophrenia. Children and adolescents also tend to demonstrate irritability and aggressiveness instead of the elation of mania in adults. ...

N2 - We examined the effect of simulated head injury on scores on the Neurological Complaints (NUC) and Cognitive Complaints (COG) scales of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 Restructured Form (MMPI-2-RF). Young adults with a history of mild head injury were randomly assigned to simulate head injury or give their best effort on a battery of neuropsychological tests, including the MMPI-2-RF. Simulators who also showed poor effort on performance validity tests (PVTs) were compared with controls who showed valid performance on PVTs. Results showed that both scales, but especially NUC, are elevated in individuals simulating head injury, with medium to large effect sizes. Although both scales were highly correlated with ...

The authors compared the fit of the 2- and 3-parameter logistic models (2PLM; 3PLM) on 15 unidimensional factor scales derived from the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory--Adolescent item pool. Log-likelihood chi-square deviance tests indicated that a 3PLM provided an improved fit. However, residual statistics indicated that the difference in fit between the 2 models was negligible. An unexpected finding was that from 10% to 30% of the items had substantial lower asymptote parameters (c | or = .10) when the scales were scored in the pathology or nonpathology directions. The authors argue that the large lower asymptote parameters are attributable to item-content ambiguity possibly caused by item-level multidimensionality. These findings suggest that the direction of scoring can critically affect an item response theory analysis.
Previous attempts to differentiate brain-damaged from schizophrenic patients largely have been inconsistent when employing various methods derived from the MMPI. Russell developed an MMPI key for this purpose that is based on an explicit rationale of differential MMPI test performance for these populations. The present study used this MMPI key in an attempt to distinguish 20 brain-damaged, 21 schizophrenic and 24 clinically depressed Ss. The results demonstrated that the key has some clinical utility in making the distinction between brain damage and schizophrenia; however, it performed poorly in correctly classifying the depressed Ss.

The present study was an attempt to examine the relationship between personality variables and neuropsychological deficits in chronic schizophrenic subjects. The groups were composed of 73 chronic schizophrenic subjects with measureable cortical atrophy on CAT-Scan and 118 chronic schizophrenic subjects without identifiable brain damage. The relationship between neuropsychological deficit and personality variables was tested by means of discriminant analysis. As hypothesized, the brain-damaged group was found to have a stronger relationship between the neuropsychological deficits and the personality variables than the nonbrain-damaged group. Canonical correlation was used to demonstrate the underlying neuropsychological pattern which was found related to the personality profile of the MMPI for the entire sample of chronic schizophrenics. A frontal and anterior temporal lobe neuropsychological profile was found related to a particular personality profile.
Ive been refining my skincare routine to 2, 3 products a day and this serum is a part of my daily grind. At night, I put a couple of drops of the MMPi 20 anti-acne serum on my face after washing it with the St. Ives Olive Scrubs and thats it. I only use this serum once a day as twice a day proved to be too drying for me. Plus since this is a serum, it does sink into my face faster and serums delivers better than cream/lotion ...

We appreciate the interest of Hastrup et al1 in our article in which we examined the accuracy of clinical scales to identify large-artery occlusion (LAO) in patients with acute ischemic stroke.2 Our results are consistent with those of other publications on this topic, including a recent study by Hastrup et al themselves.3,4 However, their interpretation differs from ours. Hastrup et al underline that several clinical scales have a good accuracy (70%-79%) to predict LAO and argue that such scales could improve prehospital triage. We agree that patients with LAO should be sent to a comprehensive stroke center rather than to a primary stroke center lacking neurointerventional facilities. However, we, like others,4 remain skeptical about the impact of clinical scales to improve triage in the field.. All proposed scales have been derived from the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale, which has been considered the gold standard for LAO prediction because no simpler scale has shown higher ...

A family in Del City believes the dogs on their block are being poisoned. This comes after their dog and a neighbors dog both died suddenly.. Bill and Sheri Lynn Meyers love their pets as much as their three kids, so losing one is devastating.. Their dog, Tupey, was just a little mutt, but the disabled mom said Tupey would protect her at home, barking when someone was near the home and didnt belong. It is would-be intruders the Meyers family thinks may be doing something to the dogs in the neighborhood.. Thursday, Tupey started throwing up blood and died shortly after the Meyers took her to the vet hospital.. "Im armoring the house, battening the hatches," dog owner and dad, Bill Meyers said. "Im not happy.". The sudden loss of the family dog, Tupey isnt easy; Bill Meyers wants answers.. "It was a surprise, so we had an autopsy," he said.. Tupeys vet, Dr. Anna Parker, tells News9 a high level of toxins was found in the dogs blood and she says poison is definitely a possibility.. "Its the ...

Ive been injuried 24months. My pelvis is tilted/torqued and my hamstrings/adductors are tight and lower leg/knee feels weird. I feel this is all secondary due to pelvis imbalance and once the pelvis is back in position, I feel like my psoas and adductors will free up. I feel there is some lower-cross syndrome going on with me since i feel like a clown when i run. Similar to Albert but not as painful. I saw Dr. UM on the 4th with all the others. She just performed an ultrasound that found the same tears Dr. Meyers MRI found. I had MR autogram on both sides with findings of small labral tear, no concern there for now. Ive decided to go with Meyers procedure. My MRI showed RA tears on both side with complete deattachment on the right side. Adductors are tight but no findings on MRI and Meyers said theyre okay. Im hoping to have a similar outcome as you did. Im still able to do spinning classes, but i do get nerve pain during hill climbs and my tectiles start to burn and my penis goes numb - I ...

If a person is ill with a medical disease such as diabetes or arthritis, there will often be psychological consequences, such as depression. Some even report being suicidal. In the same way, someone with psychological issues such as depression or anxiety will sometimes experience physical manifestations of these affective fluctuations, often in the form of medically unexplained symptoms. Common symptoms include headaches; abdominal, back, joint, rectal, or urinary pain; nausea; fever and/or night sweats; itching; diarrhea; dizziness; or balance problems. Many people with hypochondriasis accompanied by medically unexplained symptoms feel they are not understood by their physicians, and are frustrated by their doctors repeated failure to provide symptom relief. Common to the different approaches to the treatment of hypochondriasis is the effort to help each patient find a better way to overcome the way his/her medically unexplained symptoms and illness concerns rule her/his life. Current research ...

I am a collegiate distance runner. I have been dealing with groin and lower ab pain since March of 2015. I was warned by multiple doctors to not see Meyers as they had sent patients to him in the past few years who have had some fairly bad experiences with Meyers. However, from the research I had done, it seemed like Meyers was one of the few doctors who had a good understanding of core muscle injuries, and I was tired of dealing with doctors who pretended they knew what they were talking about. So I decided to see Meyers in December of 2016. I had a bilateral pelvic floor repair and a left adductor repair in February of 2017. Wasnt an easy return to running. In the summer of 2017, I had pain on my right side--the side that wasnt painful before the surgery. Went back to Meyers in July, and had another surgery to remove what he thought was a stitch rubbing up against a nerve. Eventually, I was able to train that summer and return to compete in the fall of 2017. After the cross country season ...

The researchers are studying a mutation known as unstable factor for orange1, or Ufo1, which not only impacts the color of the corn, turning the ears from the standard yellow to an orange hue, but has more severe impacts ranging from stunted growth to "whiplash," a growth defect in which the corn stalk is bent backwards towards the ground.. One important aim of the project is the basic research to understand how gene silencing functions and how it can impact different cellular pathways. This mutant is of interest because it has an "epigenetic" effect on other genes, meaning that Ufo1 produces inherited states in other genes that are caused not by altered nucleotides in the DNA, but by reversible modifications of the DNA.. The research on Ufo1 is being conducted on two fronts, with Surinder Chopra, associate professor of maize genetics at Penn State, working to identify the specific gene that is the Ufo1 mutation and Meyers trying to understand the genetic and genomic impacts of that ...

Meyers et al. started their analysis by manually reannotating all previously identified NBS-LRR genes and searching the genome sequence for genes missed in the earlier annotations. An important outcome of this work was a change in annotation of some 36% of previously identified NBS-LRR genes, suggesting the weakness of current automated annotation methods. This work also identified 11 new pseudogenes, which tend to be annotated as full-length open reading frames by automated methods that simply create introns surrounding frameshift or nonsense mutations. With corrected annotations in hand, Meyers et al. proceeded to catalog the conserved domains of all of the NBS-LRR proteins and conducted phylogenetic analyses to ascertain their relationships.. NBS-LRR proteins can be subdivided into proteins that contain a Toll/Interleukin-1 receptor-like (TIR) region and those that contain a coiled-coil (CC) region near the N terminus. Meyers et al. found 51 CC-NBS-LRR-encoding (CNL) genes and 92 ...
