Heterogeneous metal catalysts rather than homogeneous ones are recommended for industrial applications after considering their performance in activity, separation, and recycling [1]. The recycling of metal catalysts is important from economic and environmental points of view. When supported and bulk metal catalysts are used in liquid-phase organic reactions, there is a possibility that active metal species are leaching away into the liquid phases [2,3]. The metal leaching would make it difficult for the catalysts to maintain their desired initial performance for repeated batch reactions and during continuous ones. The metal leaching would also cause some undesired contamination of products by the metal species dissolved in the reaction mixture, and the separation of the metal contaminants would be required to purify the products. Therefore, various novel methods have been proposed so far to immobilize/stabilize the active metal species and to separate/collect/reuse the dissolved metal species [4]. In

The manufacturing method can improve the heat dissipation efficiency of the light emitting diode and reduce the manufacturing cost.

The PM-bound metallic elements in 43 daily PM1 samples collected at Mount Tai during a summer campaign were analyzed by ICP-MS. The PM1 concentrations ranged between 11.02 and 83.71 µg m-3, with an average of 38.98 µg m-3, and were influenced by meteorological events, exhibiting an increasing trend in the early stage of rain, followed by a significant decrease denoting efficient scavenging. Higher elemental concentrations were detected at Mount Tai than at other overseas background sites. According to the enrichment factor (EF) and geo-accumulation index (Igeo) calculations, among the 16 considered elements, Mn, Al, Co, Sr, Mo, Fe, Ca, V, Ti and Ni in the PM1 were mainly of crustal origin, while Cu, Cr, As, Zn, Pb and Cd were primarily due to anthropogenic causes. The purpose of this study was to develop, implement and evaluate a dedicated metal artefact reduction (MAR) method for flat-detector CT (FDCT). The algorithm uses the multidimensional raw data space to calculate surrogate attenuation values for the original metal traces in the raw data domain. The metal traces are detected automatically by a three-dimensional, threshold-based segmentation algorithm in an initial reconstructed image volume, based on twofold histogram information for calculating appropriate metal thresholds. These thresholds are combined with constrained morphological operations in the projection domain. Adverse Reaction to Metal Debris (ARMD) is still a major reason for revision surgeries in patients with metal-on-metal (MoM) hip replacements. ARMD consists of a wide range of alterations in periprosthetic tissues, most important of which are metallosis, inflammation, pseudotumors and necrosis. Studies investigating histopathological findings and their association to implant wear or indirect measures of wear have yielded inconsistent results. Therefore, we aimed to investigate bearing surface wear volume, whole blood and synovial fluid metal ion concentrations, histopathological findings in periprosthetic tissues and their associations. Seventy-eight patients with 85 hips revised for ARMD were included in the study. Prior to revision surgery, all patients had whole blood chromium and cobalt ion levels assessed. A hard mask is formed on an interconnect structure comprising a low-k material layer and a metal feature embedded therein. A block polymer is applied to the hard mask layer, self-assembled, and patterned to form a polymeric matrix of a polymeric block component and containing cylindrical holes. The hard mask and the low-k material layer therebelow are etched to form cavities. A conductive material is plated on exposed metallic surfaces including portions of top surfaces of the metal feature to form metal pads. Metal silicide pads are formed by exposure of the metal pads to a silicon containing gas. An etch is performed to enlarge and merge the cavities in the low-k material layer. The metal feature is protected from the etch by the metal silicide pads. An interconnect structure having an air gap and free of defects to surfaces of the metal feature is formed.

Because most commercially available coated metals are processed by a variety of coil coaters, whose primary markets have no requirements for printing (e.g., the commercial building industry), these metals are often poorly suited for screen printing. The coatings vary considerably in base chemistry and crosslink density, relating to surface hardness variables that often go beyond a UV inks ability to wet the surface (that is, the surfaces are too hard for the ink to adhere to). While one batch of metal may process well, the next could be too hard, exhibiting poor adhesion. Calmodulin is an essential EF-hand protein with a helix-loop-helix calcium binding motif. Understanding Ca(II) dependent activation of calmodulin and other EF-hand proteins is limited by Ca(II)-induced conformational change, multiple and cooperative binding of Ca(II) ions, and interactions between the paired EF-hand motifs. The goal of this research project is to probe key determinants for calcium binding properties and pairing interactions at the site specific level using a grafting approach and high resolution NMR. An individual Ca(II) binding site of the EF-hand motifs of calmodulin was grafted into a non-calcium dependent protein, CD2, to bypass limitations associated with natural EF-hand proteins and peptide fragments. Using high resolution NMR, we have shown that the grafted EF-loop III of calmodulin in the host protein retains its native conformation with a strong loop and β-conformation preference. Ternary Cu/ZnO/metal oxide catalysts are prepared through the co-precipitation method under strict control of parameters like pH, calcination conditions, and precipitation temperature in a systematic manner. The metal oxides applied in this study consist of Al2O3, ZrO2, La2O3 and Ce2O3. The distinction of this work in comparison with similar research is a comprehensive investigatation of the catalytic properties of metal oxides (including conversion, selectivity and stability) which have the potential for use in the methanol steam reforming process. The catalysts are characterized through XRD, SEM and BET. The prepared catalysts are applied in methanol steam reforming in a fixed bed reactor. A TGA analysis performed for all four catalysts determined that the Ce2O3 and ZrO2 metal oxide catalysts showed the best results in terms of stability with a coke formation of 0.7wt% and 0.8wt%, respectively; and maximum surface area is related to Cu/ZnO/Ce2O3, which can result in excellent stability and Cu

These advancements have enabled researchers to accurately quantify trace metal concentrations in a range of media (water, air, sediment, biota), and thereby evaluate system response to key environmental reforms, such as the U.S. Clean Water Act of 1972 and the global effort to phase out leaded gasoline, which began in 1973. It is timely to assess our understanding of trace metal cycling in the modern environment as we embark on new global efforts to protect human and ecosystem health, such as the 2013 Minamata Convention on Mercury. Metal-mediated base pairs represent a powerful tool for the site-specific functionlization of nucleic acids with metal ions. The development of applications of the metal-modified nucleic acids will depend on the availability of structural information on these double helices. We present here the NMR solution structure of a self-complementary DNA oligonucleotide with three consecutive imidazole nucleotides in its centre. In the absence of transition-metal ions, a hairpin structure is adopted with the artifical nucleotides forming the loop. In the presence of Ag(I) ions, a duplex comprising three imidazole-Ag+-imidazole base pairs is formed. Direct proof for the formation of metal-mediated base pairs was obtained from (1)J(N-15,Ag-107/109) couplings upon incorporation of N-15-labelled imidazole.
