We present a recent investigation regarding the use of optical coherence tomography (OCT) in the monitoring of the calibration loss of sintering ovens for the manufacturing of metal ceramic dental prostheses. Differences in the temperatures of such ovens with regard to their specifications lead to stress and even cracks in the prostheses material, therefore to the failure of the dental treatment. Evaluation methods of the ovens calibration consist nowadays of firing supplemental samples; this is subjective, expensive, and time consuming. Using an in-house developed swept source (SS) OCT system, we have demonstrated that a quantitative assessment of the internal structure of the prostheses, therefore of the temperature settings of the ovens can be made. PURPOSE This study evaluated the wear area of human enamel opposing 2 conventional and 2 low-fusing dental porcelains, as well as abrasive wear, attrition, surface hardness, and fracture toughness for the 4 porcelain substrates. MATERIALS AND METHODS Two low-fusing and 2 conventional metal-ceramic porcelains were used to form 15-mm-diameter disks (n = 10), which were fired according to manufacturers recommendations. Enamel cusps (n = 40) were formed from extracted third molars. All ceramic and enamel specimens were finished to a 1000-grit silicon carbide surface. The Oregon Health Sciences University (Portland, OR) oral wear simulator was used to deliver a 20-N load from the cusps to the ceramic substrates through a food-like slurry. The sliding action of the cusps over an 8-mm linear path produced abrasive wear. A static 70-N load was applied at the end of the path to create attrition. Disclosed is a method of manufacturing an MMO anode using reel-to-reel continuous coating and heat treatment, including continuously coating a surface of a metal substrate with an MMO (Mixed Metal Oxide) coating solution using a continuous coater and passing the metal substrate through a heat pretreatment furnace and a heat treatment furnace to form an MMO coating layer on the surface of the metal substrate. When a long wire type MMO anode is manufactured, a uniform coating layer is formed thanks to the use of reel-to-reel continuous coating and heat treatment under uniform conditions, thus increasing durability and quality of the long wire type MMO anode. The exposure time of the metal substrate to the outside between the processes is minimized, and productivity is increased, thus decreasing the manufacturing cost to result in high product competitiveness.

Abstract The combination of TiO2 and H2O2 under light activation constitutes a promising method for disinfection of dental prosthetics and implants, due to production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The aim of this work was to investigate the organic degradation ability of TiO2 particles in combination with H2O2 and under light activation utilizing the organic dye rhodamine B (RhB). Five different types of TiO2 particles, consisting of anatase, rutile, or a mixture of these crystalline phases, were combined with H2O2 and RhB, and subsequently exposed to UV (365nm) or visible (405nm) light at an irradiance of 2.1mW/cm2. It was found that rutile in combination with low concentrations of H2O2 (1.0-3.5mM) resulted in a degradation of RhB of 96% and 77% after 10minutes exposure to 365nm and 405nm light, respectively, which was the highest degradation of all test groups. Materials and Methods: Dissolution experiments were conducted in either 3% Dulbecco s Modified Eagle Medium or 3% bovine serum albumin solutions for 7 weeks. Results: The protein-containing dissolution solutions and dissolution time did not have a significant effect on release of elements from the alloys (Kruskal-Wallis, P > .05). Conclusions: The amount of the released elements was well below the dietary intake levels of these elements. This paper considers the microstructures of an Al(Mg)/Al2O3 interpenetrating composite produced by a pressureless infiltration technique. It is well known that the governing principle in pressureless infiltration in Al/Al2O3 system is the wettability between the molten metal and the ceramic phase; however, the infiltration mechanism is still not well understood. The objective of this research was to observe the metal / ceramic interface to understand the infiltration mechanism better. The composite was produced using an Al-8wt.% Mg alloy and 15% dense alumina foams at 915°C in a flowing N2 atmosphere. After infiltration, the composite was characterized by a series of techniques. The present thesis is focused on various methods of controlling electronic and geometrical structure of two-dimensional overlayers adsorbed on metal surfaces exemplified by graphene and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) grown on transition metal (TM) substrates. Combining synchrotron-radiation-based spectroscopic and various microscopic techniques with in situ sample preparation, we are able to trace the evolution of overlayer electronic and geometrical properties in overlayer/substrate systems, as well as changes of interfacial interaction in the latter.It is shown that hydrogen uptake by graphene/TM substrate strongly depends on the interfacial interaction between substrate and graphene, and on the geometrical structure of graphene. An energy gap opening in the electronic structure of graphene on TM substrates upon patterned adsorption of atomic species is demonstrated for the case of atomic oxygen adsorption on graphene/TMs (≥0.35 eV for graphene/Ir(111)).
