A dual-acting, reciprocating piston pump is provided which comprises a pump body formed with a passageway having an inlet and a discharge outlet which receives a piston assembly including a plunger rod carrying a valve plate or spider, a shovel rod carrying a shovel disc and a rod connector formed with a valve seat which interconnects the plunger rod and shovel rod. A tubular check valve is carried on the rod connector between the valve seat and the valve plate in sliding contact with the internal wall in the pump body formed by the passageway, which divides the passageway into an upper pumping chamber communicating with the discharge outlet and a lower pumping chamber communicating with the inlet. A second check valve is located at the inlet to the passageway in the pump body and is movable between an open and closed position relative thereto.

Abstract: Objective: The main objective of the present work was to grow 4-carboxyanilinium nitrate C7H8NO2+. NO3‾ semi-organic crystal by slow evaporation method and analyzed by various techniques. The positively charged carboxyanilinium cation and nitrate anion were existing in this crystal structure. Materials and Methods: 4-aminobenzoic acid, nitric acid, ethanol and deionized water were used in the crystal growth process as the raw materials. The semi-organic crystal of 4-carboxyanilinium nitrate is crystallized from the aqueous ethanol solution of 4-aminobenzoic acid mixed with aqueous solution of nitric acid in 2:1 stoichiometric ratio by slow evaporation technique. Results: The crystal lattice parameters and space group was obtained from the single crystal XRD study. The powder X-ray diffraction peaks were indexed using the INDX software. Purpose: Emran et al (2010) reported that the amplitudes of the electroretinograms (ERGs) recorded from isolated eyes of larval zebrafish were normal throughout the day, but were almost absent after several hours of darkness at night. The purpose of our study was to confirm this circadian rhythm of the ERGs in living zebrafish.. Methods: Initially, zebrafish (Danio rerio) were kept in a 14:10 light:dark cycle (room fluorescent light, 9:00 to 23 hours). ERGs were elicited by stimulus intensities of 790 mW/m2 and durations of 1000 msec. In contrast to btuB and thiM, our results show that the lysC riboswitch employs a different regulation mechanism, by directly modulating the cleavage of RNase E (Fig. 6B). Our data indicate that, in the absence of ligand, the riboswitch folds into the ON state that not only allows ribosome binding but also sequesters RNase E cleavage sites, thus ensuring efficient mRNA translation. However, in its ligand-bound form, the lysC riboswitch adopts the OFF state that concomitantly sequesters the RBS and exposes RNase E cleavage sites, thus effectively inhibiting translation and initiating mRNA decay. The location of RNase E cleavage sites in the riboswitch expression platform, and not in the ORF, strongly suggests that the lysC riboswitch directly controls the cleavage of the mRNA as a function of ligand binding. The prevalence of pathogenic bacteria acquiring multidrug antibiotic resistance is a global health threat to mankind. This has motivated a renewed interest in developing alternatives to conventional antibiotics including bacteriophages (viruses) as therapeutic agents. The bacterium Clostridium difficile causes colon infection and is particularly difficult to treat with existing antibiotics; phage therapy may offer a viable alternative. This study was designed to determine whether the sympathetic nervous system exerts a protective or enhancing effect in acoustic overstimulation. The compound action potential of the cochlea (CAP) was recorded in guinea pigs while the cervical sympathetic nervous system (SNS) was electrically stimulated or after it was surgically eliminated. The stimulation or the elimination of the cervical SNS has no effect on the threshold of CAP. The threshold shift in CAP after acoustic overstimulation (110, 115, or 130 dB SPL for 10 min) was measured in the cervical SNS stimulation group, in the cervical SNS elimination group, and in the control group. When the animal was under insufficient sedation, there was no difference among these three groups. However, the CAP threshold shift was significantly smaller in the cervical SNS stimulation group than in the other two groups when the animals were sufficiently sedated. The cervical SNS stimulation had some protective effect on the susceptibility to acoustic trauma
