Rainfall: Rainfall projections in summer show an increasing trend over both upper basins, with an increase of about 5-10% over the southern areas where the normal precipitation is low. In the upper part of these basins where the normal precipitation is higher, the projected increase ranges from 10-25%. Rainfall projections in winter also show increasing trends of about 10% over most parts of the basins. However, a small area over the southern part of the central area of the basins shows a decreasing trend by up to 5%. Temperature: Future warming in the summer season is projected over the entire upper Salween and Mekong basins, mostly in the range of 1.5-2.5°C, although it may exceed this ...

The Mekong is an exceptional river in many ways. In terms of fish biodiversity, it is the worlds second richest river after the Amazon (www.fishbase. org). With 6 to 18% of the global freshwater fish catch, it is also home to the largest freshwater fisheries in the world. The productive Mekong fisheries are essential to the food security of the 60 million people of the Lower Mekong Basin. Fish contributes 81% of the populations protein intake in Cambodia and 48% in Laos. Mekong inland fisheries also provide employment to 1.6 of the 14 million Cambodians ...
THE CHAIN-REACTION IMPACTS FROM THE DAMS: With the passing of time, the cumulative and irreversible chain-reaction impacts coming from the occluding rivers as well as the 26 mainstream dams (14 dams in the Mekong Cascades in Yunnan and 12 in the Lower Mekong) on the more than 4,800 kilometer-long Mekong include: 1/ Changes in the natural state of the river prevent its current from maintaining its seasonal "flood pulse" which is of vital importance to the Tonle Sap Lake, the heart that regulates the eco-system of the Mekong River and the Mekong Delta. 2/ Changes in the currents flow will result in a reduction in the wetland areas and destruction of the vital habitat required by the fish species of the Mekong that in turn will adversely affect the fish source and food security. 3/ The altered current threatens the diversity of the fish population including flagship species that serve as a gauge of the wellbeing of the Mekongs ecosystem like the Irrawaddy Dolphins and Pla Beuks that are facing ...
Found in large rivers and seasonally in canals and floodplains (Ref. 12693). Adults prefer big pools in the Mekong at least part of the year while juveniles are mostly seen in swamps and small tributaries, from where they are sometimes collected and stocked in ponds (Ref. 37770). The young can acclimatize to live in ponds, canals and swamps. A migratory species (Ref. 37772). Enters flooded forest (Ref. 9497). Young individuals occur in October in the lower Mekong basin (Ref. 12975). Feeds on algae, phytoplankton and fruits of inundated terrestrial plants (Ref. 12693) and detritus (Ref. 58784). Its numbers have declined seriously. Individual fishes rarely survive to reach reproductive maturity. Its catch should be strictly regulated by size. A very desirable food fish, sometimes eaten fresh or pickled (Ref. 12693). Maximum length of 300 cm needs confirmation. Threatened due to over harvesting and habitat loss (Ref. 58490). ...

Section V.-The Central American Sub-region This Sub-region, as has been already shown, contains the coast-lands of Mexico lying along the Pacific and Atlantic shores from Mazatlan on the north on one side, and from the Rio Grande on the other, together with the whole of Central America from the Isthmus of Tehuantepec to that of Panama.. As regards the fauna of this part of America, we are fortunate in being able to refer to the excellent account of it contained in the Biologia Centrali-Americana of Messrs. Salvin and Godman. The volume relating to the mammals in this work was undertaken by Mr. Alston, and finally completed after his death by one of the authors of this work in 1882 (3). Out of a total of sixty-nine genera of mammals represented in this Sub-region, only two seem to be absolutely restricted to it, and these, moreover, are genera of bats, which may possibly be found at some future time to extend into the main South American continent .. Of the sixty-seven non-peculiar Central - ...

Luciocyprinus striolatus is a large predator living in deep pools within large mountain rivers in the upper sections of the Mekong Basin, in the Lao PDR and PR China (from where it was scientifically described in 1986). It is distinguished from the only other member of the genus by the 5-8 longitudinal black stripes on the body of the adult. Fishers have reported that this species can grow up to 150 cm. Its large size and wide mouth have provided for a fierce reputation. For instance, it has been referred to as the monkey-eating fish ! Although it is highly unlikely that monkeys constitute part of its diet, such stories certainly add to the mystery that is already fueled by the rarity of the fish ...
These Sub-regions, however, do not appear to represent the true faunal divisions of the Palaearctic Sub-region quite adequately. In the first place, there seems to be a fairly continuous and unchanging fauna extending from the west of Europe all across Siberia and embracing the northern island (at any rate) of Japan. This wide area is still, to a great extent, covered with forest, and was, no doubt, mainly so beset until within comparatively recent times.. Again, Wallaces arrangement divides between two Subregions the vast extent of desert country that reaches from the Sahara through Egypt, Arabia, Persia, and Turkestan to Mongolia, which also appears to contain a fairly homogeneous fauna. Wallaces Manchurian Subregion, on the other hand, seems to be well established, and to be the most distinctive of all his Sub-regions, but as it only embraces a part of Manchuria, we prefer to call it the Chinese Sub-region.. We may, therefore, distinguish three Sub-regions in the Palaearctic Region as ...

In the vicinity of Sancerre and Pouilly-sur-Loire (Central Vineyards sub-region of the Loire Valley), faulting has caused the east bank of the river (Pouilly side) to be lowered, thus causing the typical Kimmeridgian slope to lie flat and the retention of elements of the Tertiary (sands, clays, and freshwater limestones) and Quaternary (high-river-terrace sands, gravel, and clay) period. The town of Sancerre sits atop a fault ridge the eastern side of which is Kimmeridgian topped by Cretaceous soils while the west side is brush-covered gravel slopes. Further west, the best vineyards sit on the classic Portlandian-Kimmeridgian combination. The Portlandian here is thinner but, according to Wilson, is reinforced by ferruginous sandstones of the basal Cretaceous and weathering of the sandstone infuses the rock with iron. Wilson talks about three "lithologic Kimmeridgian zones" in Sancerre ...

A volume image memory (24) stores an electronic image representation of a volumetric region, such as the volumetric region examinedby a medical diagnostic scanner (10). A sub-region of interest of the volume is selected (30) and the surface of the selected region or object of interest is divided into triangular surface regions with a triangular surface processor (38). A vertex merging processor (40) examines the triangles to locate vertices spaced by less than a preselected minimum. Vertices closer than the preselected minimum are replaced with a vertex at a median position merging the triangle into adjacent triangles. A vertex removal processor (50) identifies groups of triangles having a common vertex (Vc) that form a pyramid. The surface normals (N) of the triangles which define the pyramid are examined to determine whether they are within a preselected deviation of parallel. The altitude of the pyramid, i.e., a distance between the common vertex and an average plane (Pavg) of the triangles is

With regards to ProgPower Scandinavia, we are of course very disappointed by the fact that we once again have to find a replacement band, as this year seem to be the year of several cancellations. However, we decided to find a band similar to Zero Hour in musical expression, so we chose German technical prog-thrashers MEKONG DELTA to be a suitable and very welcomed replacement band. MEKONG DELTA is a band that we actually had in mind for the original line-up of PP Scandinavia 2008, but with Zero Hour already on the bill, we did not want two bands so close in sound. The unfortunate situation with Zero Hour gives us a good reason for picking up MEKONG DELTA, and we are very proud of having them perform at our festival. If you do not know who MEKONG DELTA are, we urge you to check out their latest album Lurking Fear from 2007 or some of their classic albums like Dances Of Death and Other Walking Shadows 1990 and The Principle of Doubt 1989. MEKONG DELTA is really one of the original ...
er is often referred to as the "life blood" as well as the "heart and soul" of mainland Southeast Asia, signifying its importance in, and for, the region. As the the seventh longest river in Asia, the Mekong rises in China and flows through Myanmar, the Lao Peoples Democratic Republic, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam before reaching the South China Sea. The river is also the worlds largest inland fishery, which leads to extremely fertile soils. As such, the region through which the Mekong flows, has been referred to as the "rice bowl of Asia", thus providing food security for centuries.. More recently, a new aspect of the Mekong has been promoted and is facing further exploitation, its hydropower capacities. The rapid drop of the river gives the Mekong River Basin a great potential of 53,000 MW. The exploitation of this potential is regarded as a great opportunity for the development of less prosperous regions, notably in Laos and in the Chinese province of the Yunnan. Additionally, since ...

NAY PYI TAW, Myanmar 8 December 2017 - Representatives from Cambodia, China, the Lao Peoples Democratic Republic, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam today called for accelerated action to eliminate malaria in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) by the year 2030.. The call comes amid concern over resistance of malaria parasites to antimalarial drugs, including artemisinin-the core compound of the best available antimalarial medicines. To date, resistance has been detected in five of the six GMS countries. The best way to address the threat posed by drug resistance is to eliminate malaria altogether from the countries of the Mekong.. At a high-level meeting convened by the Ministry of Health and Sports of Myanmar in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Asia Pacific Leaders Malaria Alliance (APLMA), representatives from the six GMS countries stressed that eliminating malaria in the Subregion requires urgent and coordinated action, with support from implementing agencies, ...
