This book introduces advanced undergraduate, graduate students and practitioners to statistical methods for ranking data. An important aspect of nonparametric statistics is oriented towards the use of ranking data. Rank correlation is defined through the notion of distance functions and the notion of compatibility is introduced to deal with incomplete data. Ranking data are also modeled using a variety of modern tools such as CART, MCMC, EM algorithm and factor analysis.. This book deals with statistical methods used for analyzing such data and provides a novel and unifying approach for hypotheses testing. The techniques described in the book are illustrated with examples and the statistical software is provided on the authors website.. ...

With the EHR (Electronic Health Record) being central to most health informatics applications, several countries have initiated programs for implementing national EHR infrastructures. Building and implementing such a national EHR infrastructure requires an understanding of healthcare standards, coding systems, and standard frameworks, each of which may vary across borders and/or come from a myriad of sources. With this in mind, the authors compiled their study and analysis results in a groundbreaking single-source guide to fill the void in this area for the benefit of others working in similar areas ...

This paper assesses long-term impacts of vegetable and polyculture fish production technologies on a variety of measures of household and individual well-being in Bangladesh. In 1996-1997, households were surveyed in three sites where nongovernmental organizations and extension programs were disseminating agricultural technologies-about two to six years after the technologies were first introduced. The same households were reinterviewed in 20062007. Using nearest-neighbor matching to construct a statistical comparison group, we find that long-term impacts differ across agricultural technology interventions and across outcomes. Long-term impacts on household-level consumption expenditures and asset accumulation are, in general, insignificant in the improved vegetables sites, but are positive and significant in the individually operated fishponds sites. Interestingly, impacts on individual nutrient intake, nutrient adequacy, and nutritional status do not necessarily follow the pattern of ...

Three model cases were thus posed: ischemia and reperfusion in cardiomyocytes, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary ...
Medical informatics studies the nature of medical information and the use of information technology to manage health-related records and content in medical practice, education, and research. With increases in the application and uses of information technology to the medical industry, there is an unprecedented need for professionals who can use their knowledge of both information technology and health care to improve the safety and quality of health care delivery, plus help control costs.. Medical informatics is an emerging profession in which the power of information technology is creatively applied to the information needs of health care. This includes the acquisition, storage, and retrieval of patient data, as well as access to electronically maintained medical knowledge for use in patient care, research, and education. This field requires computing expertise; understanding formal medical terminology, clinical processes, and guidelines; and the application of information and communication ...
...Informatics is an emerging discipline that has been defined as the study, invention, and implementation of structures and algorithms to improve communication, understanding and management of medical information. The end objective of biomedical informatics is the coalescing of data, knowledge, and the tools necessary to apply that data and knowledge in the decision-making process, at the time and place that a decision needs to be made. The focus on the structures and algorithms necessary to manipulate the information separates Biomedical Informatics from other medical disciplines where information content is the focus. Aamir M. Internet-Draft HTTP-to-CoAP Mapping November 2016 1. A CoAP server may return an arbitrary format payload along with this response. If present, this payload MUST be returned as entity in the HTTP 201 response. Section 7.3.2 of [RFC7231] does not put any requirement on the format of the entity. (In the past, [RFC2616] did.) 2. The HTTP code is 200 or 204 respectively for the case that a CoAP server returns a payload or not. [RFC7231] Section 5.3 requires code 200 in case a representation of the action result is returned for DELETE/POST/PUT, and code 204 if not. Hence, a proxy MUST transfer any CoAP payload contained in a CoAP 2.02 response to the HTTP client using a 200 OK response. 3. HTTP code 304 (Not Modified) is sent if the HTTP client performed a conditional HTTP request and the CoAP server responded with 2.03 (Valid) to the corresponding CoAP validation request. Note that Section 4.1 of [RFC7232] puts some requirements on header fields that must be present in the HTTP 304 response. 4. A ...

Theory.. The application was written with separate variables for Online and Offline, because the author was stupid. Thousands of features were added which depend on having these two variables.. A smarter person said these are the same variable and created the OnlineOffline variable. For compatibility, he used it to set the original two variables, so he didnt have to fix the old code.. Along comes someone either stupid or brilliant (or more likely brillant), who says theres actually a third mode which is both online AND offline and creates the Both value.. And of course, a rarely-used function deep in the bowels of the system sets the OnlineOffline variable to FileNotFound, which breaks everything.. ...

Payment issues, rather than clinical needs, have driven most investment in IT in healthcare. Thus, billing systems are generally much better than the clinical systems. Furthermore, while the exact figure varies depending upon the survey, healthcare has invested at least 50% less of its gross revenues in information technology than other information-intensive industries like banking [2-4]. Furthermore, while banking has international standards for exchange of data, medicine does not. As a result, one can go to an automated teller in Tokyo or Moscow and withdraw money with a card, but going to a healthcare provider in one of these locations with a serious medical issue would be a rather different experience.. In other industries, companies have used excellent information technology as a competitive edge. For example, American Airlines derived substantial benefit from its SABRE system, which made it easy to determine which flights were available, and to make reservations [5]. Similarly, Federal ...
