The effects of transcranial electrical stimulation (tES) have been documented for a variety of mental functions, including numerical cognition. This article first reviews 2 prominent forms of tES, transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and transcranial random noise stimulation (tRNS). This is followed by an assessment of the applications of this technology in the enhancement of aspects of numerical cognition, including numerosity, magnitude representation, and more complex arithmetic operations. The review concludes with discussions of directions for future research. These include the need to take individual differences into account in experimental designs, extending research to individuals with difficulties and deficits in working with numbers, the need to consider potential cognitive costs that may offset cognitive benefits of tES. A recurring theme in this article is the need to move toward greater ecological validity of experimental findings.

A mobile environment to improve the process of an integrated treatment of obese people will be identified, developed, introduced and clinically evaluated. The study will include 150 patients aged between 25 to 65 for men and 25 to 70 for women, diagnosed with obesity (BMI≥30 or BMI,27,5 and 20% risk or more for developing a cardiovascular diseases). One group of patients will visit conventional live workshops for weight loss and the other group will use ICT. At the initial examination by the doctor all survey participants will have measured blood pressure, body mass, waist circumference, percentage of body fat, percentage of skeletal muscle, resting metabolic rate, estimated risk of developing cardiovascular disease and will be directed to laboratory examination (blood lipids and cholesterol, blood sugar). Why do some people fail to grasp numbers, and how we can improve numerical understanding?Numbers are vital to so many areas of life: in science, economics, sports, education, and many aspects of everyday life from infancy onwards.
Much evidence suggests that humans and many animals possess an abstract sense of approximate quantity: a sense of number. Recently Arrighi et al. (2014) provided behavioral evidence for a generalized number sense by showing that numerosity adaptation occurs cross-modally (from vision to audition and viceversa) and across stimuli presentation format (sequential and simultaneous). Here we extend these findings to show that producing a sequence of motor actions (finger tapping) without tactile feedback (no finger/surface contact during the motor routine) also causes adaptation of numerosity estimation of visual stimuli. While there is evidence of associations between spatial skills and mathematics, relatively few studies explore these associations in children aged 5-10 years. I will present findings from longitudinal and cross-sectional studies to highlight the importance of spatial skills as both longitudinal and concurrent predictors of mathematics. First, secondary data analysis of the Millennium Cohort Study indicates that spatial performance at both 5 and 7 years is a significant predictor of mathematics at age 7 (N = 12099). Nanofluids have increasingly drawn interest in recent years with their various applications in a number of fields. The method for the preparation of stable nanofluids is a key concern for extending the application of nanofluids. This study focuses on the effect of pH, dosage of surfactant (TX-100), and nanofluid concentration on the stability of a silica nanofluid. Particle size and zeta potential are two important factors to consider in evaluating the stability of the silica nanofluid. Results indicate that the stability of the silica nanofluid highly depends on pH, dosage of surfactant (TX-100), and nanofluid concentration. On the basis of these experiments, the best conditions for the preparation of a silica nanofluid are 0.1 wt. % for the concentration of silica nanoparticles and TX-100 and 10 for pH. A transparent and stable silica nanofluid can thus be obtained.

We propose a new method for estimating a solution dependent diffusion coefficient in the heat equation, given a numerical solution to the latter. In a recent study (K.J. Painter and T. Hillen, Spatio-temporal chaos in a chemotaxis model, Physica D, 240 (4), 363-375, 2011) a model for chemotaxis incorporating logistic growth was investigated for its pattern formation properties. In particular, a variety of complex spatio-temporal patterning was found, including stationary, periodic and chaotic. Complicated dynamics appear to arise through a sequence of merging and emerging events: the merging of two neighbouring aggregates or the emergence of a new aggregate in an open space. In this paper we focus on a time-discrete dynamical system motivated by these dynamics, which we call the merging-emerging system (MES).
