One of the goals of this study was to learn the coverage, safety and logistics of a mass vaccination campaign against typhoid fever in children and adults using locally produced typhoid Vi polysaccharide (PS) and group A meningococcal PS vaccines in southern China. The vaccination campaign targeted 118,588 persons in Hechi, Guangxi Province, aged between 5 to 60 years, in 2003. The study area was divided into 107 geographic clusters, which were randomly allocated to receive one of the single-dose parenteral vaccines. All aspects regarding vaccination logistics, feasibility and safety were documented and systematically recorded. Results of the logistics, feasibility and safety are reported. The campaign lasted 5 weeks and the overall vaccination coverage was 78%. On average, the 30 vaccine teams gave immunizations on 23 days. Vaccine rates were higher in those aged ≤ 15 years (90%) than in adolescents and young adults (70%). Planned mop-up activities increased the coverage by 17%. The overall vaccine

The plans outline the need to identify suitable locations for mass vaccination centres and the need to determine how many people can be vaccinated per day and for how long. Now more documents from different regions have come to light, revealing the same overall strategy. The first document, entitled Contingency Plan For Mass Vaccination And Treatment, originates from the Leicestershire Local Resilience Forum (LRF), a multi agency group consisting of the emergency services, local authorities, and local health trusts as well as the Environment Agency. The document dated January 2008 states: "When the general population is threatened or affected by a medical epidemic, mass vaccination of the public may be necessary." The "public version" of the plan states that the locations of the vaccine centers have been omitted. "THE LOCATION OF VACCINATION AND TREATMENT CENTRES IS SENSITIVE INFORMATION, AND SHOULD BE TREATED AS SUCH. THEY WOULD BE EXEMPT FROM FoIA REQUESTS UNDER SECTION 38 OF THE FREEDOM OF ...
Capstone field experience project with the Fort Riley Department of Public Health (FRPH). This project was two-fold. The vaccination clinic offered vaccines for chicken pox, tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis, meningococcal disease, human papillomavirus, and the flu ...
Results: The vaccine coverage of the population was 74% and was higher in those under age 10 years. No life-threatening serious adverse events were reported. Adverse events occurred in less than 1% of all vaccine recipients and the main reactions reported were fever and local pain. The proportion of adverse events in Vi polysaccharide and hepatitis A recipients will not be known until the end of the trial when the code is broken. Throughout the vaccination campaign safe injection practices were maintained and the cold chain was not interrupted. Mass vaccination in slums had good acceptance. Because populations in such areas are highly mobile, settlement conditions could affect coverage. Systemic reactions were uncommon and local reactions were mild and transient. Close community involvement was pivotal for information dissemination and immunization coverage ...

Our vaccination clinics play an important role in our community program. We were able to host two clinics this year, vaccinating over 200 community pets in our service area and signing up over 60 pets for spay/neuter surgeries. On Saturday, October 22, we were set up at Jones Park in East St. Louis for the second clinic of 2016. In addition to providing vaccinations, we talked with residents about additional resources that our program has to offer. It was a beautiful morning, and we met dozens of new families who were excited to receive services for their beloved pets! Below are just a few of the happy families and pets that received services through the clinic.. ...

As an international UN Volunteer specialized in communication, Catalin was one of the first people to be sent to Coxs Bazar to document the response of WHO Bangladesh. "Prior to the escalation of this crisis, there were already established partnerships between WHO, the government and other health partners. With the massive influx of people from Myanmar, strategies had to be adapted to this critical situation," explains Catalin.. Among the many challenges that medical staff have to address are: poor nutrition, insufficient clean water and sanitation, risk of communicable diseases and issues related to reproductive health. Last September, WHO coordinated a mass vaccination campaign against measles and polio, immunizing more than 150,000 children. In October, this was followed by a one-month 700.000 mass vaccination campaign against cholera, supplemented by actions to improve hygiene conditions, sanitation and access to water - essential measures to prevent cholera outbreaks.. ...
In any mass vaccination campaign, those who are already immune are unlikely to get additional benefits from the vaccine, but remain at risk of adverse effects," he wrote.. "In young people without risk factors, the rates of death and complications last winter from swine flu were very low and are similar to the risk of serious vaccine-associated adverse effects such as Guillain-Barré syndrome and anaphylaxis.". According to Prof Collignon, around 50 per cent of people who received the H1N1 vaccine in the Australian trial had mild to moderate systemic adverse effects and 1.7 per cent had adverse effects recorded as severe.. In children, 20 per cent had moderate to severe systemic adverse effects after receiving a single 15 microgram dose of vaccine.. "It is very important that we make sure we do more good than harm with any vaccine," Prof Collignon said, calling for large, prospective long-term studies on the safety and efficacy of influenza vaccines before embarking on further mass immunisation ...
BEIJING - China kicked off mass vaccinations for swine flu Monday in Beijing, making it apparently the first nation in the world to start innoculating its population against the virus.. The Asian giant has been at the forefront of international efforts to produce an A(H1N1) influenza vaccine, with at least five companies receiving government approval for the work. Officials however have warned demand will exceed supply.. The capitals municipal health bureau announced Monday in a statement on its website that Beijing "took the lead in China in starting A(H1N1) flu vaccinations".. Authorities kicked off the programme by immunising students due to take part in next weeks National Day celebrations, the statement said. Around 100,000 students are due to attend, according to recent state media reports.. Full article here ...

To react to an outbreak of a contagious disease that requires medication or vaccination, county health departments must set up and operate mass dispensing and vaccination centers, commonly known as points of dispensing (PODs), to treat residents who may be affected. Carefully planning these PODs before an event occurs is a difficult and important job. Simulation models can provide an accurate representation of resident flow through PODs, but are not convenient for public health professionals to access. Queueing theory provides a multitude of analytical models appropriate for various situations - so many models that it is often difficult to discern which model is correct for a particular circumstance. There are also some situations for which no models are available, particularly those involving batching and multiple servers. A complete set has been gathered of those models that are the most generalized, and hence useful for the widest range of applications. Where no appropriate model was ...

If by doing your research you mean, "H1N1 is able to penetrate deeper into lung tissue and cause a pulmonary embolism", that would not mean that the vaccine would stop it. Do some research on vaccines. Yes, pork flu may be bad. It may be dangerous. But hopping on one foot, aligning your treadmill a certain direction, or having foreign toxic substances directly injected into your body is not going to change that. No matter how much you want to believe it.. Does it make sense that injecting monkey testicular cells into you would be beneficial? (If you dont understand that, you havent researched vaccines). "Contrary to what you say vaccines have done a lot of good…how many kids have you come across in the US with polio? ". Saying things like, vaccines must do good because elephants arent falling out of the sky, or things like, dont see any kids with polio, sure does seem to make me think your brain is not engaged. Did you look at the graphs and just try to consider why there was a reduction ...

Youre dead right, its not scientifically sound! The comments about relative numbers of deaths do probably stack up, but the northern hemisphere is going into a second winter with H1N1 & the worry there is that the virus will be more aggressive second time around (having had time to pick up various beneficial mutations (beneficial to the virus, that is!) in the interim. Hence the mass vaccination campaign in the US.. Thimerosol - is a preservative in some adult vaccines (hasnt been in childhood vaccines since 2001 as far as Im aware). Its present in miniscule amounts in those vaccines that contain it & there is absolutely no evidence that it causes any form of brain damage.. Squalene is made in the body as a normal metabolic by-product & the quanitity in vaccines (apparently its present in the European H1N1 vaccine but not the one used in the US) is again so tiny as to be insignificant. Ill have a look for some references to support all that & maybe write a post about it :-). ...
Reports of an early flu season this year have prompted the Health Department to schedule a flu clinic Tuesday to distribute vaccinations it has on hand. Health Director James Roosen said statewide surveillance last week showed the flu season is starting, with several cases already reported. "One school system closed in the western part of the state (Yancey County), so we are concerned that we have to vaccinate as many people as possible in Wayne County," he said. The Health Department had been in the process of organizing a mass vaccination clinic for Nov. 18, Roosen said. When reports showed more flu activity than expected, the decision was made to distribute the vaccines the Health Department has. A limited number of flu shots are available, Roosen said, and will be given out on Tuesday beginning at 9 a.m. No appointment is necessary, and people with special needs who are non-ambulatory will be able to remain in their vehicle to receive the vaccine. In such cases, a friend or family member ...
The vaccine comes in the same two forms as the usual seasonal flu vaccine--the nasal mist and the shot. Because of the misinformation swirling around the nation about the vaccine, we had a hard time getting people to accept the nasal mist. (The government sent us twice as much nasal vaccine as the injectable form, so were trying to save the shot for people who cant have the nasal form ...

SOMERVILLE, Mass. -- In the event of a medical emergency, it would appear that the city of Somerville is in good hands. The period from September to December 2005 provided an unusual educational opportunity for public health planners in Palm Beach County, Florida (PBC), when a hurricane interrupted the influenza vaccination season. County health and school district officials had met during the last week of September to begin planning a school-located mass influenza vaccination (SLV) program for all elementary schools in the county, subject to approval by their principals. During October, school nurses had been trained to manage all elements of the program, and principals were making their final decision concerning possible participation of their school. The first schools were scheduled to begin vaccinating children November 1.. However, on October 24, Hurricane Wilma struck PBC and diverted all public health services to the management of this emergency. Hurricane Wilma was a Category 5 hurricane before landfall, the most intense hurricane recorded to date in the Atlantic basin.1 After the storm made landfall in ...
