Budget and Expenditures. The Board approves an annual operating budget prepared by the Finance Committee for each fiscal year, authorizes expenditures as specified therein and approves amendments to the budget as they occur throughout the fiscal year. The fiscal year begins July 1 and ends the following June 30. The Board also approves requests for extraordinary disbursements. Financial matters brought to the Boards attention are usually referred to the Finance Committee before official action is taken. No money, beyond that which is budgeted, is spent in the name of the Music Library Association without prior, formal approval by the Board. In consultation with the Fiscal Officer, emergency budget action may be taken between Board meetings if it is preceded by a unanimous vote of the President, the Vice-President/Past President and the Recording Secretary. Such action is subject to ratification at the following Board meeting. If during the course of a fiscal year the Board approves unbudgeted ...

In February 2015, the MLA Board transitioned from a traditional five-year strategic plan format and yearly "Presidential Priorities" to a strategic process that establishes consistency and continuity in MLAs drive for change. Today, strategic goals set by the board focus on areas requiring significant change and board attention, generally across multiple organizational functions of the organization. Goals are organized in a "rolling" strategic plan, with goals of varying duration rolling on and off at the May annual meeting.. Through end of August, we will publish a post on each goal to highlight what has been achieved (or remains on the "to do" list), and how the results positively impact you and the profession. Spoiler alert: Members can now view MLAs strategic plan annual report.. The board concluded the "What MLA Does" goal, which looked at MLAs audiences, sections and special interest groups (SIGs), annual meeting activities, publications, international presence, headquarter operations, ...
We inspected Ann Charlton Lodge on 18 November 2015. This was an unannounced inspection which meant that the staff and provider did not know that we would be visiting.. Ann Charlton Lodge provides care and accommodation to people who have multiple sclerosis or related conditions of the nervous system. At the time of the inspection 24 people were using the service.. It is a detached, single storey; purpose built facility, which is situated in a residential area of Redcar. There are wheelchair accessible gardens surrounding the building.. The home had a registered manager in place. A registered manager is a person who has registered with the Care Quality Commission to manage the service. Like registered providers, they are registered persons. Registered persons have legal responsibility for meeting the requirements in the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and associated Regulations about how the service is run.. There were systems and processes in place to protect people from the risk of harm. ...

Internet-Draft Benchmarking Containerized Infra March 2020 page should be set to at least 1G byte. In the VM-based infrastructure, the host OS and the hypervisor can configure a huge page depending on the guest OS. For example, guest VMs with the Linux OS requires to set huge pages at least 1G bytes. Even though it is a huge size, since this memory page is for not only its running application but also guest OS operation processes, actual memory pages for application is smaller. In the containerized infrastructure, the container is isolated in the application level and administrators can set huge pages more granular level (e.g. Kubernetes allows to use of 512M bytes huge pages for the container as default values). Moreover, this page is dedicated to the application but another process so application use page more efficient way. Therefore, even if the page size is smaller than the VM, the effect of the huge page is large, which leads to the utilization of physical memory and the increasing number ...

My friend Jerry from Detroit sent me a packet of photos this week which she took of San Antonio and us when we were there for the Medical Library Association in mid-May. It is a lovely city, and they really cater to tourists--must be one of their biggest industries. They had a river that was forever flooding and during the Depression the WPA corralled it in stone walls, into a lovely river walk, and it has been extended to other areas. The city business sort of goes on above it, and you never see the traffic or hear it when walking along the river. We did a lot of walking and picture taking; I attended meetings, and an architect (friend of a friend) took us on a city tour and we got to see some of the more unusual things the ordinary tourist doesnt see. We also visited an artists colony and bought a nice watercolor of the Alamo. One morning the Majors company took us on a long hike through the King William restored residential section where we saw all these fabulous homes, and they gave us ...

By Gary L. Francione, Anna Charlton. This ebook places the problem of consuming animals squarely at the table.. We all declare to care approximately animals and to treat them as having no less than a few ethical worth. all of us declare to agree that its flawed to inflict "unnecessary" affliction and loss of life on animals and--whatever confrontation we can have approximately while animal use is necessary-we all agree that the pain and demise of animals cant be justified by means of human excitement, enjoyment, or comfort. We condemn Michael Vick for puppy struggling with accurately simply because we think strongly that any excitement that Vick obtained from this job couldnt most likely justify what he did.. So how do we justify the truth that we kill many billions of land animals and fish each year for foodstuff? notwithstanding "humanely" we deal with and kill those animals, the volume of animal discomfort we reason is astonishing. but nobody keeps that animal meals are important for ...

In recent seasons, it was easy to patronise Charlton Athletic as a nice, safe family club playing nice, safe family football in a nice, safe family stadium, the perfect role model for any small-to-middling club looking to establish themselves in the Premier League. If they could only sort out their post-Christmas form they might even qualify for Europe, and wouldnt that be splendid for the choirboys of the Premiership?

For five years, Cho cared for Hwi in South Korea; for that same five years, Charlton sent over a hundred emails to Nan-Hui that ranged from concern to threats of hiring a bounty hunter. Unbeknownst to Cho, Charlton also filed charges against Nan-Hui for child abduction. When Cho -- a Korean national in the process of applying for permanent residency -- applied to travel to Hawaii to check out schools for the American-born Hwi, ICE was notified by the US embassy in Seoul and Cho was arrested and sent to Yolo County to stand trial on the child abduction charges. Meanwhile, Hwi was sent to live with Charlton -- a father she didnt know -- who has since denied Cho a chance to see her daughter ...

What if librarians were charged with coming up with the next search engine? Would the legal infrastructure in place today support, complicate, or even hinder their efforts? Would the American Library Association be of help? Would they be able to do it fairly, allowing open access to others? This compelling thought experiment closed this weeks EconTalk episode with University of Southern California professor of law and economics Gillian Hadfield. Hadfield argues that the US legal structure, while well-suited to the 2oth century, is in need of an update. She has suggestions for this process, which host Russ Roberts says suffer a marketing problem. Can you help?. 1. Why do we need to "reinvent the law," according to Hadfield, and what does she suggest such a reinvention might entail?. 2. What is "super-regulation" and how might this allow regulatory regimes to be more innovative? Why does Roberts suggest that this idea has a marketing problem? Do you think this problem is surmountable? Why or why ...

Easy to write a guy off after two seasons (even though DLmen break out all the time later than their first two pro seasons), but maybe remember that he had a promising start to the season before apparently getting hurt…followed by his being ineffective the rest of the year. Then this offseason came around, and it was shoulder surgery and now ankle surgery. Gee, think that maybe the guy who was still learning the league might have struggled because of multiple injuries that required surgery? At this point, I wouldnt bet money on him, but anyone who locks him in as a definite bust is ignoring NFL history. This is a big year for him.. ...
OTTAWA - Defensive back Antoine Pruneau knows the Ottawa Redblacks have high expectations for him and he has every intention of fulfilling them.. The fourth overall pick from the 2014 draft struggled at times last season but he was still rewarded with a two-year contract extension last December. Defensive backs coach Ike Charlton would like to see Pruneau take his game to a higher level in 2017.. "Its time for him to take the next step," Charlton said Tuesday. "He made strides towards that last year and there (were) some guys in this league that got recognition that I thought he should have got. He made way more impact plays, but it wasnt the sexy plays.. "I think this year is the time for him to take that step and try to separate himself as one of the better DBs in the league and not just a Canadian DB.". Pruneau, 27, is entering his fourth year with the Redblacks. He was bumped from the starting position at strong-side linebacker in mid-season, but worked himself back into a starting role at ...

Arvind Kejriwal formed a party with some ideals and opened the gates for everyone to join his party even those in other parties without any test to judge these candidates adherence to these ideals. He just looked at the win-ability factor. As a result his MLAs and ministers are under constant scrutiny. Many seemed involved in unethical practices which even forced him to remove three ministers from the cabinet namely Jitender Singh Tomar for fake degree charges, Asim Ahmad Khan on corruption charges and recently Sandeep Kumar for sex tapes. Few other MLAs from AAP are also arrested for different charges. While he claimed he has zero tolerance for any wrongdoing most of the founding members of AAP have leaved the party because they think Arvind Kejriwal has diverted from the real motives of the party ...

In a statement NDP Industry Critic Chris Charlton joined with OpenMedia.ca and Canadians in calling for "concrete steps to improve mandatory roaming and tower sharing provisions so that smaller Canadian players can compete and bring down prices." Her NDP colleague Peggy Nash echoed the call for more access to independent providers by calling for greater "use of set asides for new entrants, stringent rural roll out requirements, and that companies purchasing valuable wireless spectrum would be forced to use it or lose it.". Despite being encouraged to support your access to affordable independent telecom services the Liberals have not put out a statement during this debate. Previously, senior Liberal MP Marc Garneau weighed in saying: "We need competition and to do that we need to make sure more spectrum is available to competitors instead of being hoarded and sitting idle with the incumbents." The Liberals have a new industry critic, Judy Sgro, and we hope shell reiterate these sentiments ...
What if you were the last person alive? There is this scene early in The Omega Man , a half-decent Charlton Heston movie, that sums it up for me. Heston is the last man on Earth. At night he fends off vampiric hoards, but during the day he is alone, watching Woodstock in a room full of corpses and driving around in an expensive car. At one point he hears a payphone ring. Another phone starts to ring, and then, the overwhelming sound of thousands of telephones going off at the same time. He shouts, savagely,

John Sutherlands description of the Modern Language Association of America (LRB, 16 December 1993) contains more misleading statements and outright errors than one would expect of someone who has taught at universities in both the United States and the United Kingdom. He treats the MLAs size as remarkable and somehow in itself a problem. He fails to consider the difference between the number of university teachers in the United States and the number in the United Kingdom. Statistics compiled by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development suggest that there are 11 full-time equivalent students in the United States for every full-time equivalent student in the United Kingdom. Assuming a similar student-faculty ratio in both countries, one would expect the United States to have 11 times as many faculty members at the university level as the United Kingdom has. Consequently, one might expect professional meetings in the United States to attract considerably larger numbers of ...

"This is part of the rea-son there is an ex-pec-ta-tion of tighter slaugh-ter num-bers than pre-vi-ously fore-cast in 2018, as these pro-duc-ers, par-tic-u-larly in Queens-land, look to rekin-dle re-build-ing ef-forts.. In retrospect, these shouldve been obvious, but the diagram is what made it clear to me. It also became clear that the diagram needs more work. I need to add an option to make the right side mirror curved (Im not sure what the typical curvature is). I might need to calculate the effect of someone rotating their head. I should measure car mirrors and the driver position inside the car. Its been a fun little project. I learned some Javascript and SVG, and I got to play with Mike Bostocks d3 library, even though its overkill for a diagram like this. The process of working on the diagram helped me understand things and motivated me to learn more. Id like to work on several more interactive diagrams to see if the car diagram is a special case or if interactive diagrams are generally useful for me. ...

This past weekend I had what in retrospect will be considered my launch event, Meet the Makers at Milkfarm LA in Eagle Rock. I really cant say enough good words about Leah and her staff there - not only were they warm, welcoming and supportive, but theyve curated an incredible line of products in their store.

The following is from the book Emil Seletz, Sculptor. All through my medical training I have always been inspired by "the great physician". The father of the first truly great volume on medicine is by Sir William Osler. While in Baltimore in 1937, I visited with sculptor Hans Schuller, and he related to me his making of a portrait bust of Sir William Osler. This was sometime in early 1905. It was his custom in modeling a portrait bust of a male subject to use the Greek style of finishing with the naked unclothed chest. Mrs. Osler wanted Oslers accustomed wing collar and elegant dress, but Hans Schuller would not agree to her request. Dr. Osler looked quite young at that time. Mrs. Osler refused to accept the bust (eventually acquired by Johns Hopkins). When beginning the portrait bust of Dr. Osler, my good friend Dr. Elmer Belt, the urologist and universally famous for his Leonardo DaVinci collection, procured for me some 30 or more photographs of Sir William Osler as well as copies of drawings ...

Are you at a time in your professional life when youd like someone to call for advice or to be a sounding board? Someone who can help you shape your professional development or even your career? A mentoring relationship is a relationship of choice between two people, one who wants to see the world more widely, and another who has insight to share. The commitment that the mentor and mentee or protégé make to one another can be as simple as an initial meeting and followup IM or phone chats, or more formal with regular in person meetings. We act as mentors, and pair up folks as well! In 2001, Susan Babb paired YA librarian Beth Gallaway with new childrens librarian in North Reading, Christi Showman. Christis job was just part-time, and her heart belonged to YA services. Beth is now a YS consultant, thanks in part to Susans mentoring, and Christi now has the job of her dreams as a YA librarian (in Beths region, no less ...

The Tennessee Electronic Library (TEL) has allowed students to access online resources. However, other databases are available that provide digitized book content to meet curriculum needs of schools. Most of the materials that are digitized in the Gale databases available in TEL have periodical content. There is a federated search that is now available to search selected databases. The TEL database that has materials for younger students is Kids InfoBits. Since many students are not reading on grade level, there is a need for digitized content on a variety of reading levels, including easier reading. Although periodicals are the genre for scientific research, school assignments often require students to research general factual information about a subject rather than current event articles. Databases were selected for preview based on the following criteria: search results using the same terms, quality of content, ease of use, appearance of screens, and special features. The search results had ...

For some reason Charltons Silver Age adventures of Blue Beetle, Dan Garrett (archaeologist), have turned out to be the most difficult for me to get my hands on. My searches online havent turned up digital copies/scans (on the other hand Ive scored many of Foxs Golden Age adventures in digital format), I havent found much on eBay (mostly Ted Kord issues, which I have), and my local comic shop doesnt have any back issues...and they have a fantastic back issue selection. Luckily, while going through some old comic boxes Id left at my moms house...some of the very first I collected, I came across this, 1965s Charlton Comics "Blue Beetle" #52. According to the price tag still on the bag I paid $6.00 for this way back when, big money for me at a time when most books I was buying were $0.75-1.00 each! ...

Irene Newman served the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for 43 years, first as the assistant supervisor of school libraries, and, after her appointment in 1937, as Wisconsin supervisor of school libraries, a position Irene held until her retirement in 1965. Under her leadership, libraries were established in the smaller high schools and at the elementary level. During this period, the place of libraries in a school was legalized and certified teacher librarians became compulsory. As supervisor, Newman served as secretary of the Wisconsin Reading Circle Board which directed the supplementary reading in the grades and professional reading for teachers. She served as president of the Wisconsin Library Association (1935-1936), a past treasurer of the Wisconsin Library School Association, and served on numerous committees on education and book selection, including the original committee for the Cooperative Childrens Book Center. But don t know about Linux. In this track cyberpower is talking about cyberpower.. Another example of cyberpower is our experience with an auction of Malcolm X s papers. The sale, planned for March 2002, was discovered online, then thousands protested online and the sale was stopped. The process began when monitoring eBay for items related to Malcolm X, we discovered that eBay s auction house, Butterfields, was about to sell thousands of pages of Malcolm s diaries and notes, recovered from a storage locker, for an expected price of $500,000. Using the listserv H-Afro-Am, this news was spread across multiple communities of scholars, librarians, activists, and others. The American Library Association then created a story on their online news site which is fed to more sites and individuals. The next day The New York Times did a story. On the third day The Guardian newspaper ran a story about the impending sale and the online groundswell against it. The listservs and the news articles alerted the ...
