This study analyzes medical and socioeconomic variables of the phenomenon of pediatric health mobility in Campania region. However we believe that the study methodology of our research may be used also for other Italian regions with high rates of patients migration.. In addition to causing stress to patients and their families, health migration determines significant costs to native region and subtracts economic resources to the development of their human and technological assets [20]. In general, international analyses in adults [6-17] have shown that perceived quality of services, waiting lists, and doctors expertness seem to represent important aspects for patients. Our families feel that pediatric extra-regional hospitalization in Campania region occurs mainly due to a (truly or perceived) lack of adequate and/or well organized facilities to provide updated assistance to children with complex diseases. However, unexpectedly, migration involved also conditions of medium or low ...

Invasive listeriosis is a rare, life-threatening foodborne disease. Lombardy, an Italian region accounting for 16% of the total population, reported 55% of all listeriosis cases in the years 2006-2010. The aim of our study was to provide a snapshot of listeriosis epidemiology in this region after the implementation of a voluntary laboratory-based surveillance system. We characterized by serotyping, pulsed-field gel electrophoresis, multilocus sequence typing and detection of epidemic clone markers, 134 isolates from 132 listeriosis cases, including 15 pregnancy-related cases, occurring in the years 2006-2010 in Lombardy. Demographic and clinical characteristics of cases have also been described. The mean age of non pregnancy-associated cases was 64.7 years, with 55.9% of cases being older than 65 years. Cases having no underlying medical conditions accounted for 11.6%. The all-cause fatality rate of 83 cases with a known survival outcome was 25.3%. Serotypes 1/2a and 4b comprised 52.2% and 38.8% of

Background: Studies about the impact of developmental dyslexia(DD) on parenting arerare. Our investigation aimed to assess maternal stress levels and mothers copying styles in a population of dyslexic children. Methods: A total of 874 children (500 boys, 374 girls;(mean age 8.32±2.33 years) affected by DD was included in the study. A total of 1421 typically developing children (789 boys, 632 girls; mean age 8.25±3.19 years)were recruited from local schools of participating Italian Regions (Abruzzi, Calabria, Campania, Puglia, Umbria, Sicily) and used as control-children group. All mothers (of bothDD and typically developing children) filled out an evaluation for parental stress (Parenting Stress Index- Short Form: PSI-SF) and coping strategies (Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations:CISS). Results: No statistical differences for mean age (p=0.456) and gender (p=0.577) were found between DD and control children. Mothers of children affected by DD showed an higher rate of all parental stress indexes
On Sunday 22 October voters in the Italian regions of Lombardy and Veneto expressed their support for greater regional autonomy in two consultative referendums. Is this the start of a new attempt at overhauling and modernising Italys two-track regional system, after a constitutional reform proposal that would have re-centralised Italys regional system (and reformed its…
On May 22-23, 2018 was held a study visit at the Lombardy Region, organised by The Foundation of the Carlo Besta Neurological Institute, as responsible for the coordination, within WP5, of the sub-task linked to the implementation of good practices for Adults at work.. The practice Workplace Health Promotion - Lombardy WHP Network was a practice identified as a good practice in the first CHRODIS Joint Action (2014-2017), and it is aimed to be implemented in the Region of Andalusia during the CHRODIS PLUS Joint Action (2017-2020).. The meeting was fruitful to get to know the Good Practice better, directly from the experts and implementers involved and to strengthen the cooperation with them. Coordinators, implementers, participants and other stakeholders of the Italian practice offered a thorough explanation of the central features of the Lombardy WHP intervention. The exchange of information also revealed potential barriers/difficulties, as well as key facilitators, to be taken into account ...

Italy lost 25,000 people in 2010 due to the demographic crisis. But if it had the same rate of Liguria and Genoa, it would have lost 250,000: an apocalypse.. Liguria is the eighth richest Italian region. A very wealthy area. Yet, the world studies Liguria to understand the future of countries committing suicide. The percentage of people over 75 years old in the Italian region of Liguria, already 13 percent, the highest figure across Europe, will rise to 18 percent by 2030.. Savona is the province of Liguria where 28.1 per cent of the population is over 65 (only two years ago the percentage was 27 per cent). In Liguria, the elderly are over 433,000, almost one-third of the population. Liguria is also the region with the largest number of abortions in Italy: 11.87 cases per 1,000 women. This process of self liquidation began in the time when Genoa, Ligurias capital, held the medals of consumerism: more smoking, more electrodes, more TVs, more perfumes and beauty creams.. But Genoa was already a ...

In the framework of the ISAAC Project (International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood),14 a survey was conducted in Italy between 1994 and 1995 in 10 areas of northern and central Italy in a representative sample of 6-14 year old children/adolescents (1st SIDRIA Study, Studi Italiani sui Disordini Respiratori dellInfanzia e lAmbiente).15-17 A second large, multicentre study on the relation between the environment and respiratory disorders in children and adolescents was carried out in 2002, also including areas of southern Italy (2nd SIDRIA Study).18. This report concerns the 2nd SIDRIA Study, which involved children and adolescents living in five areas of northern Italy (Turin, Milan, Mantua, Trent, and Emilia-Romagna), five areas of central Italy (Rome, Florence, Empoli, Siena, and Colleferro), and two areas of the south (Bari, Palermo). Each area randomly sampled at least 1000 subjects from the local schools, weighted for the total number of students at the school. If the number ...
This multicenter study describes the type-specific prevalence of HPV infection in the general population from central and southern Italy, comparing the data with previously published Italian studies. Women aged from 25 to 65 who attended cervical cancer screening in five different Italian regions were tested for HPV infection with Hybrid Capture II (HCII) low and high risk probes. Women repeating Pap-test upon unsatisfactory or positive results, or as a post-treatment and post-colposcopy follow-up analysis, were excluded from our study. High risk (HR) HPV positive samples were typed using GP5+/GP6+ primed PCR, followed by Reverse Line Blot for 18 high/intermediate risk HPV types, while low risk (LR) HPV positive samples were tested with type specific primers for HPV6 and HPV11. 3817 women had a valid HCII test: 350 of them (9.2%) were positive for HR probes, 160 (4.2%) for LR probes, while 57 women were positive for both. Multiple infections were detected in 97 HR HPV positive women. The most common
Background In 2008, after the first West Nile virus (WNV) detection in the Emilia-Romagna region, a surveillance system, including mosquito- and bird-based surveillance, was established to evaluate the virus presence. Surveillance was improved in following years by extending the monitoring to larger areas and increasing the numbers of mosquitoes and birds tested. Methodology/Principal Findings A network of mosquito traps, evenly distributed and regularly activated, was set up within the surveyed area. A total of 438,558 mosquitoes, grouped in 3,111 pools and 1,276 birds (1,130 actively sampled and 146 from passive surveillance), were tested by biomolecular analysis. The survey detected WNV in 3 Culex pipiens pools while Usutu virus (USUV) was found in 89 Cx. pipiens pools and in 2 Aedes albopictus pools. Two birds were WNV-positive and 12 were USUV-positive. Furthermore, 30 human cases of acute meningoencephalitis, possibly caused by WNV or USUV, were evaluated for both viruses and 1,053 blood bags
Chianti is one of the most famous wine regions in Italy. Located in the Tuscany wine region, Chianti DOCG has seven subzones: Chianti Colli Aretini, Chianti Colli Fiorentini, Chianti Colli Senesi, Chianti Colline Pisane, Chianti Montalbano, Chianti Montespertoli, Chianti Rufina. Chianti must contain a minimum of 70% Sangiovese, grown anywhere in the greater Chianti region. Chianti Classico is its own region in the heart of Chianti. Chianti Classico is easily identified with a black rooster on the neck of the bottle.. Common tasting notes for Chianti include: red fruits, dried herbs, balsamic vinegar, smoke and game. Since Chianti has savory flavors, paired with high acidity and rugged tannins, this makes Chianti an incredible food wine! ...
In the region of Lombardy, a flag draft was suggested on 27 March 2002. The flag has the proportions 3:5 (the text says that those is width of the flag 1.66 time (sic) the height), is white with a red cross. The width cross is 1/10 the width of the flag. In the bill it is located that the flag is a historical flag for Lombardy. This flag is still older and belongs to the world of the cross knights. The flag is indeed a banner with the sinking George cross that the Lombardian knights had planted on the wall of Jerusalem. The law regulates also the use of the flag on and in official buildings ...
Downloadable! This paper analyses the Italian regional efficiency of the hospitality sector using a data envelopment analysis (DEA), for the time span 2000-2004. Via a window DEA, pure technical efficiency is computed. The Lombardy region presents the best relative performance. Overall Italian regions denote important sources of inefficiency mostly related to their inputs. Via a truncated-Tobit analysis, the rate of utilisation and regional intrinsic features positively are found to affect hospitality efficiency. Nevertheless, empirical evidence does not support spill-over effects amongst Italian regions.

This study was mainly conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of a panel of selected Mini-and Microsatellite loci for sub-typing closely related isolates. The 84 isolates included in this study have not been previously sub-typed with any other method and were identified as Type C. Most of the isolates analysed were from two northern Italian regions (Lombardy and Emilia Romagna), where about the 60% of the National dairy farms is located. Few isolates derived from other northern regions (Piedmont and Veneto), while the rest of the isolates came from herds located in the centre and south of Italy. As a result, the sampling was not representative of the whole country, so epidemiological conclusions about the distribution of the different genotypes could not be drawn. Moreover, it is very plausible the existence of links related to cattle trading which can further complicate the epidemiological analysis.. Considering the 84 isolates from different herds, despite the above mentioned limits, type MVS ...
Although sentinel node biopsy (SNB) is becoming the standard approach for axillary staging in patients with small breast cancer, criteria for patient selection and some technical aspects of the procedure have yet to be clearly defined. The aim of the present survey was therefore to investigate the way in which SNB is used by general surgeons working in the Veneto region, Italy. A 29-item questionnaire regarding various aspects of SNB practice was mailed to surgeons in charge of breast surgery in all the 56 surgical centres of the region. The rate of response to the questionnaire was 82.1% (n = 46); 69.6% (n = 32) of the respondents routinely perform SNB in their clinical practice. Most of the interviewed surgeons (93.5%) expressed the belief that the acceptable false negative rate should be ≤5%. However, among the surgeons who perform SNB, only 34.4% performed more than 20 SNB during the learning phase. Indications are limited to tumours of ≤1 cm by 31.2% (n = 10) of respondents, ≤2 cm by 46.9% (n

BMC (BIOMED CENTRAL)-Genetic adaptations of early Italian ancestors to environmental changes, such as those that occurred soon after the Last Glacial Maximum, may explain some of the genetic differences between northern and southern Italian populations today, according to a study published in BMC Biology. The research suggests that northern and southern Italian populations may have begun to diverge genetically as early as 19,000-12,000 years ago and constitutes the earliest known evidence of genetic divergence in Italy so far.. A team of researchers at the University of Bologna sequenced the genomes of 38 unrelated participants from different regions in Italy, each the third generation of their family native to each region. The genomes were selected as representative of known genetic differences across the Italian population and over 17 million distinct genetic variants were found between individuals. The authors compared these variations with existing genetic data from 35 populations across ...
Read more about italian women here.. furthers the efforts begun many years in the past to recognize Italian girls combatants, especially in gentle of the recent anniversary of the Unification in 2011 and global discussions relating to the function of ladies in the navy. Its purpose is to not glorify violence and struggle, however to have fun the active role of Italian girls within the evolution of their nation and to demystify the idea of the woman warrior, who has all the time been considered both as a unprecedented, nearly mythical creature or as an affront to the normal female identity. Italian ladies sure do know how to have a good time and with them at your occasion, theres by no means a uninteresting second in any respect.. by Sylvia Poggioli. American gourmets and lovers of Italian food products, your days as food smugglers as over.. No more stuffing your suitcases with delicacies bought in Italy, hoping the sniffer dogs at JFK or other American airports wont detect the banned-in-the-USA foodstuffs inside your luggage.. In the U.S., theyre called cured meats, the French say charcuterie and in Italy, the word for cured-pork products is salumi. Starting May 28, a four-decades-old ban on the import of many Italian salumi will be lifted.. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced that the Italian regions of Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Veneto and Piedmont, and the provinces of Trento and Bolzano, are free of swine vesicular diseases. Imports of pork products from those areas, says USDA, present a low risk of introducing the disease into the U.S. The disease was first detected in the 1960s and can survive cooking and even long curing.. Up to now, only few Italian pork products were approved for import to the ...

Among the 211 residents (160 women, mean age 82.2 ± 9.29 years, and 51 men, mean age 77.1 ± 8.9 years), 42 were hip fracture cases, with a prevalence of almost 20%, and a female/male ratio of 6/1.23 fractures preceded institutionalization; of these 19 (17 females and 2 males) occurred within the nursing homes (mean age 83.2 ± 6.3 years). The average ...
Estimating CKD prevalence is difficult. Information on CKD prevalence is rather scanty in Italy and available figures come from surveys in selected geographical areas. Administrative data have been already demonstrated to be an effective tool in estimating the epidemiological burden of diseases, however there is limited experience in literature as far as CKD is concerned. The aim of this study is to develop an algorithm based on regional Health Administrative Databases to identify individuals with CKD and provide estimates of disease prevalence in Lazio Region (Italy); about 5.500.000 inhabitants in 2017. A population-level analysis based on a record-linkage strategy using data from Health Administrative Databases has been applied in Lazio Region. CKD cases were identified between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2017 using Outpatient Specialist Service Information System, Hospital Discharge Registry, Ticket Exemption Registry and Drug Dispensing Registry. Age-specific and standardized prevalence rates

Background. Despite massive immigration towards Southern Europe in the last two decades, data on mortality by cause among immigrants in Italy are scarce. The aim of this study was to investigate mortality from all and from specific causes of death among immigrants residing in the Veneto Region (Northeastern Italy).Methods. Mortality records for the period 2008-2013 were extracted from the regional archive of causes of death, whereas population data were obtained from the 2011 Italian census. Immigrants were grouped by area of provenience based on the information on country of citizenship available both in mortality and census data. Standardized Mortality Ratios (SMR) with 95% Confidence Intervals (CI) were computed for the period 2008-2013 in subjects aged 20-59 years, with rates of Italian citizens as a reference.Results. Overall mortality was reduced both in male (SMR 0.86, CI [0.80-0.92]) and female immigrants (SMR 0.72, CI [0.65-0.78]), although an increased risk was observed for subjects from Sub
The dessert are a variety of Italys traditional Amaretto cookie which are made with almonds, egg whites and sugar. Amaretti di Saronna were first made in the town of Saronno in the province of Varese, in the northern Italian region of Lombardia during the Renaissance period. They are often enjoyed at the end of a meal, perhaps accompanied by a glass of sweet wine such as the Lombardian Sangue di Giuda DOC, or for with a delicious afternoon tea.. ...
