Swept-source OCT-angiography (OCT-A) was better able to delineate iris vessels in normal pigmented irises compared with spectral-domain OCT-A, a recent study reported.. This prospective study included 10 patients with normal pigmented irises and five eyes with iris neovascularization (NVI). Each of the participants underwent imaging, which two masked observers graded for visibility, artifacts and NVI characteristics.. The researchers observed a paired mean difference of iris vessel density measurements of 11.7, with swept-source OCT-A detecting more vessels than spectral-domain OCT-A. They noted that the inter-grader reliabilities for artifact score and visibility score were substantial. The team added that both systems were able to detect NVI vessels with a fair amount of agreement, with clearer NVI characteristics in stages one and two compared with stage three of NVI.. "Both anterior segment OCT-A systems identified NVI characteristics based on its atypical configuration or location, but ...

An iris identification system and method of identifying the identity of an animate being through iris scanning are disclosed. The system features an iris system pick-up unit including a camera for capturing iris images to create input image signals. The iris image pick-up unit is operated with a control unit that is interfaced with a data processing unit for preprocessing the input image signals into processed data. The processed data is representative of one of a plurality of parameters for iris identification selected from the group consisting of (1) the density and texture form of the iris fiber structure using a frequency transformation method, (2) pupilliary reaction, (3) the shape of the pupil, (4) autonomous nervous wreath reaction, (5) shape of the autonomous nervous wreath, (6) the existence of lacuna, (7) the location of the lacuna, and (8) the shape of the lacuna. The control unit is operable to compare processed data with parameters pre-stored in a data base that correspond to the processed
The diversity of bearded irises rivals that of any other perennial grown in temperate climates. For some gardeners, they bring back warm memories of a grandparents garden; for others, theyre a cutting-edge plant with a seemingly endless capacity for producing new forms and patterns. In this comprehensive and definitive guide, iris expert Kelly Norris provides an accessible yet authoritative overview of these deservedly popular plants. Introductory chapters show how to grow successfully, how to use them in the garden, how to choose the best plants, and how to create new irises. A Guide to Bearded Irises also provides portraits of the most outstanding plants in each of the six recognized categories, from the dainty miniature dwarf bearded irises to the stately tall bearded irises. A resource section lists specialty nurseries devoted to bearded ...
Iris vicaria is a species in the genus Iris, it is also in the subgenus of Scorpiris. It is a bulbous perennial. It was first published by Alexeï Ivanovitch Vvedenski in Flora URSS (Flora Unionis Rerumpublicarum Sovieticarum Socialisticarum) in 1935. Under the name Juno Vicaria. Iris vicaria is now the accepted name by the RHS. It is very similar in form to Iris magnifica (another Juno species Iris) with pale violet flowers. Around 1930, the Russian Government decided to sell various wild bulbs from its lands, to plant collectors of Europe and other countries. Large quantities of Lilium szovitsianum, various tulip species and other bulbs were dug up, transported and sold. A lot of iris bulbs labelled Iris warleyensis were found out to be mis-labeled by American bulb growers. Using Professor Fedtschenkos book, Species of Wild Flowers of the U.S.S.R. they were found out to be Iris vicaria. It is hardy to USDA Zone 6. It prefers to be cultivated in well-drained (including sandy) soils ...

Iris seem to flower in most months of the year. Many people can be frustrated by the fleeting blossoming of these plants, especially the well-known bearded varieties that are in full blooming mode at the moment. But I think they are wrong. The bearded iris usually has many buds on one stem and, as the top flower dies, another takes its place. The delight of the iris is that it comes in so many colours, hence its association with the rainbow. Iris was the messenger of the Greek gods and the personification of the rainbow. Reds, oranges, whites, yellows, mauves, lilacs, blues, browns, purples and all shades in between are now available and as a florist I would love to be able to use the bearded iris more widely. I enjoy the Dutch iris, sold regularly by the cut flower trade. The elegant, tall blue, purple and white flowers with their vivid yellow flashes are a welcome addition to any flower arrangement or bouquet of flowers, and they can look especially striking when massed together in a bunch. As the leader in veterinary nephrology, IRIS has a responsibility to provide practicing veterinarians with evidence-based guidance for diagnosing, treating, and managing kidney disease. Our responsibility includes providing the most useful direction on how to interpret diagnostic information. The inclusion of SDMA values in the IRIS CKD Staging Guidelines is the next step in improving not only early diagnosis of CKD but also tailoring treatment of CKD to individual patients. The IRIS Board recommends using both serum creatinine and SDMA to enhance our ability to evaluate renal excretory function. These two surrogate markers are complimentary to each other. Another change the IRIS board has recently made is the expansion of Stage 2 for dogs and a corresponding reduction in size of Stage 3 for dogs. This change was made to reduce the large variability in clinical signs and treatment needs for dogs in the previously large IRIS Stage 3 category.. Staging of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is undertaken ...

Previous laser studies have indicated that a biologic effect is derived from the absorption of energy by a chromophore. Exceptions to this general rule, including the cessation of peristaltic movement in segments of chick intestine, have prompted a study of the response of smooth muscle systems to treatment with a ruby laser. Laser energy over a range of 100 to 1000 J/sq. cm was observed to stimulate contraction of smooth muscle from segments of salamander intestine and from excised rabbit iris sphincter muscle. The rapid contraction was observed to be confined to the tissue within the target diameter. Relaxation to its original state occurred within 1 to 4 minutes, depending upon the amplitude of the muscular excursion. Iris tissue containing pigment showed a response to a lower laser energy level, and the contractions showed a greater excursion than analogous tissue from an albino rabbit. The possibility of two-photon absorption by the nonpigmented muscle systems was discussed. (Author)(*LASERS
The iris is the coloured part of the eye. A circular muscle in the iris controls the amount of light entering the eye through the pupil, the black area in the centre of the iris.. The cornea is the outer clear, round structure that covers the iris and the pupil. The cornea directs light rays into the eye and helps focus them on the light-sensitive retina at the back of the eye, providing sharp, clear vision.. The lens is located behind the iris and is normally clear. Light passes through the pupil to the lens. Small muscles attached to the lens can make the lens change shape, allowing the eyes to focus on near or far objects.. ...

AIM: To investigate the infiltration and activation of lymphocyte in iris-ciliary body and anterior chamber after allogenic penetrating keratoplasty (PK), for further revealing the role of iris-ciliary body in corneal allograft immune rejection. METHODS: In the mice models of PK, BALB/C mice received orthotopic isografts (n =35) or C57BL/6 donor allografts (n =25). Grafts were examined daily for 3 weeks by slit-lamp microscopy and scored for opacity. The infiltration of CD4(+) T lymphocyte in iris-ciliary body and anterior chamber was examined by immunohistology and the mRNA of CD80 and CD86 in both cornea graft and iris-ciliary body by RT-PCR was analyzed in allograft recipient at days 3, 6, 10 and the day when graft rejection occurred. Isograft recipients were examined as control at the corresponding time points. Transmission electron microscope was used to study the ultrastructure, especially cell infiltration, of iris-cilary body and corneal graft at day 3, 7 and the day when rejection ...
Iris Murdoch was born Jean Iris Murdoch in Dublin, Ireland on 15 Jul 1919. When she was very young Iris and her parents moved to London, England, and Iris studied at Frobel and Badminton schools. She followed this with studies in classics, ancient history and philosophy at the University of Oxford, and after the Second World War she undertook further study at the University of Cambridge. During the war years Murdoch worked for the Treasury in London, and then joined the UNRRA providing relief in formerly occupied countries in Europe. In 1948 she became a fellow of St Annes College, Oxford, where she taught and researched philosophy.. Iris Murdoch wrote a number of tracts on philosophy, however it is for her novels that she is best known. She wrote 26 novels in total, her first being Under the Net published in 1954. Other notable works include The Bell and The Sea, The Sea for which she won the Booker Prize . Her last novel, Jacksons Dilemma was published in 1995.. In her youth Murdoch had ...
It is commonly known in the UK as the white flowered iris[14] or in the US as milky iris.[4][15] It is known as majiris, in Sweden.[16] In Ladakhi of Tibet, it is known as Tesmamentok,[4] meaning pale purple flower.[17] The Latin specific epithet Lactea means milky color,[10] hence the common name milky iris. In China, it is written as 白花马蔺 白花马蔺 in Chinese script and known as bai hua ma lin in Pidgin in China.[5][16] It also known as Ma Lin or Malan flower.[18] It was first published and described by Pallas in Reise Russ. Reich (Reise durch Verschiedene Provinzen des Russischen Reichs - translated as Travel through various provinces of the Russian Empire) in 1776.[16][19] The taxonomy of this species has been very confused. It was originally named Iris ensata lactea (Thunberg) in Transactions of the Linnean Society of London (page 328) on 1 May 1794 but later Iris ensata was re-classified as Iris kaempferi. Which is now a synonym of Iris ensata (within Iris ...

The Guardian As literary feuds go, its as good as they get. Novelist and newspaper columnist AN Wilson has just published a biographical sketch of his erstwhile friend and heroine, the writer Iris Murdoch. Among other things, the book is mischievously revelatory and quite spectacularly rude about Murdochs widower, John Bayley. He, of course, has already published three well-received books about his wife, their marriage and her death from Alzheimers disease (successfully adapted for the cinema as Iris, with Kate Winslet and Judi Dench sharing the starring role). As an antidote to what might be seen as the beatification of Iris and John, Wilsons Iris Murdoch As I Knew Her claims that Bayley confessed that he [Bayley] did not like, or even read, his wifes novels; that Bayleys political opinions, allegedly including a whooping enthusiasm for capital punishment, placed him to the right of Genghis Khan; that Bayleys accounts of life with Iris were at times misogynistic and motivated by envy ...

The iris is the colored part of the eye that forms a ring around the black pupil that is responsible for contractions of the pupil to let in more or less light. It is also the only internal organ that is visible from outside the body. Like a fingerprint, the colors and patterns of the iris are completely unique to each individual, and this unique texture usually doesnt change throughout a persons lifetime. Because of these characteristics a scan of the iris is a highly reliable source of personal identification.. Iris recognition measures these unique patterns and textures through a specialized camera which captures an image of the iris from about 3-10 inches away. Iris recognition is considered one of the most accurate forms of biometrics (the use of body measurements for identity checks) because it is non-intrusive, fast and accurate. As a comparison, while fingerprint identification uses 40 unique characteristics, the iris has 256 unique markers.. In order for iris recognition to work, your ...
Image degradations can affect the different processing steps of iris recognition systems. With several quality factors proposed for iris images, its specific effect in the segmentation accuracy is often obviated, with most of the efforts focused on its impact in the recognition accuracy. Accordingly, we evaluate the impact of 8 quality measures in the performance of iris segmentation. We use a database acquired with a close-up iris sensor and built-in quality checking process. Despite the latter, we report differences in behavior, with some measures clearly predicting the segmentation performance, while others giving inconclusive results. Recognition experiments with two matchers also show that segmentation and matching performance are not necessarily affected by the same factors. The resilience of one matcher to segmentation inaccuracies also suggest that segmentation errors due to low image quality are not necessarily revealed by the matcher, pointing out the importance of separate evaluation ...
We previously showed that increased iris expression of COL1A1 transcript was associated with differential anterior chamber biometrics such as a shallower ACD in primary angle closure compared to primary open angle eyes.36 Moreover, mutation in the Col8a2 gene resulted in mice with an abnormally large anterior chamber.37 Thus collagen expression may potentially be involved in determining anterior chamber characteristics. To evaluate the potential association of these collagen genes with anterior segment biometric measurements, the iris tissues from WT and knockout mice were analyzed for mRNA expression of Col1a1, Col8a1, and Col8a2, by quantitative PCR (Fig. 4A). Data from the WT irises were used as baseline values for comparisons of fold changes in gene expression in the knockout irises. While Hevin-null irises did not show significant difference from WT for the collagen transcripts analyzed, the SPARC- and SPARC-/Hevin-null irises expressed significantly lower levels of Col1a1 (Fig. 4A). On the ...
What Is Iridology?. "This is one of natures greatest, and at present, only soft tissue analysis. It will give you a road map of your strength and weaknesses. It will also show your congestive (lymphatic) and chemical accumulations. This is invaluable in helping to address your glandular or organ weaknesses." - Iridology by Dr. Morse, N.D.. Iridology (also referred to as iridodiagnosis or iridiagnosis) is a medical technique where characteristics of the iris, such as pattern and color, can be examined to determine information about a patients systemic health.. Iridology is a science that studies the iris of the eye and its relationship to the tissues in your body.. Understanding the iris is important because the eyes are the entrance points which bring in images of the external world. Most people do not know this, but the eyes can also present an image of the bodys health. The eye has been known as a window to the soul. Well, Iridologists see the eye as the window to true health.. In an iris ...

Note: These planting guidelines are for consideration to iris growers in the east and Midwest only.). THE BEST PLACE TO PLANT YOUR IRISES. Imagine that every tree in your yard is now fully mature. Look upward and make certain that no tree limbs are or will become closer than 10 feet from the edge of your planting area. Tree roots will extend from that tree an equal distance and your wonderful soil we eventually be ruined. Avoid shade as irises are sun lovers. Full sun make them the happiest!. Survey the lay of the land. Spot areas with higher elevation. Excellent drainage is an essential requirement of irises! Good soil grows lush weeds with large leaf surfaces and dark green grasses. Some gravel is not a bad thing as it improves drainage, but boulders are very bad. Clay soils are a godsend as they retain moisture and trap organic matter and fertilizers.. Sandy soils offer excellent drainage-a disaster in drought conditions.. Avoid slopes. Soils will wash against the foliage and bury the ...

Notwithstanding the fact that many specific game mechanics dont traditionally apply to the anime, considering the fact that Doryuzu do not exist below Level 31 naturally and the circumstances of its capture/ownership by Iris are relatively unknown, is it possible that her Doryuzus behaviour can be attributed to its level and her apparently lacking the appropriate badges? Patients in need of such reconstructive efforts, either in cases of congenital, traumatic or other causes of iris loss, often are significantly debilitated by light and glare sensitivity, as well ...
The Iris is the muscle within the eye that regulates the size of the pupil, controlling the amount of light that enters the eye. "Eye colour" is the colour of the Iris, which can be green, blue, or brown. In some cases it can be hazel (light brown) or grey. It is the area between sclera and pupil. The texture, and patterns of each persons Iris are as unique as a fingerprint. Iris Image Specifications: Iris Image Type - The interchange format type of the Iris images that is defined in this standard is for rectilinear images only. If the image is collected by a camera that captures only one eye at a time and is stored using a rectilinear coordinate system, no specific pre-processing is required Cameras that capture images of both eyes simultaneously may use the following processing steps to calculate the rotation angle of the Iris images. i. Pre-processing to calculate rotation angle Before compression, the Iris image will have to be pre-processed to calculate rotation angle. Refer section 6.3.1 ...

Anyone who uses biometrics as a form of unattended authentication simply doesnt understand the point of biometrics.. Biometrics work best when operated under close supervision - they should form only one aspect of a wide ranging system.. In addition, it is absolutely trivial to copy any and all of your biometrics.
