I. Purpose. The purpose of this interagency Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is to establish and improve the working relationship between the Office of Enforcement of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) of the Department of Labor. On November 4, approximately 200 students from Sage and other area colleges gathered with local people living with scleroderma - a chronic condition that causes tightening of the skin and other connective tissues - to talk about how health care professionals can collaborate across specialties to better serve their patients. It is the third year that Sage and Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences collaborated with the Steffens Scleroderma Foundation on an interprofessional education forum.. The annual event is an opportunity for all graduate-level Dietetic Interns, Nursing, Occupational and Physical Therapy and Counseling students at Sage and Pharmacy students at ACPHS to learn about each others roles, practice interviewing patients and receive feedback from practitioners and people living with chronic conditions, said Sages Dietetic Internship Director Michelle Morgan, MS, RDN, CDN, one of the forums organizers.. Arguably, Medical School curricula are deficient in learning opportunities related to the safe and effective use of medicines, in particular antimicrobials. Infection management is complex and multidisciplinary, and learning opportunities should reflect these principles. Aligned to the complexity of the subject matter, simulation and interprofessional based teaching are methods that can foster the collaborative skills required of future healthcare professionals. There have been calls to develop these methods in the teaching of safe prescribing and the management of infections; however, reports of such studies are limited. We developed an interprofessional education (IPE) conference for second year undergraduate medical and pharmacy students based in the North East of England. We considered contact theory in the design of three small group interprofessional workshops, on the broad themes of antimicrobial stewardship, infection management and patient safety. A mixed methods approach assessed students
In this issue brief, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundaton discusses ways to encourage more interprofessional collaboration in health care. Takeaways:

Our role as educators is to create a safe learning environment, facilitate the interprofessional interaction, and debrief on the experiences as they apply to professional practice. The overall goal is to create a culture of effective communication and teamwork that will positively influence the quality of care in the populations and communities we serve. ...

The widespread prevalence of pain demonstrates the need for comprehensive pain education for all healthcare professionals. Yet not all require the same type of pain-related knowledge and skills. IASP encourages all interprofessional medical programs to utilize the following curriculum outline to embed pain education and training. As with all health professions, an objective of a curriculum is to instill the knowledge and skills necessary to advance the science and management of pain as part of an interprofessional team. The desired outcomes of education emphasize critical competencies that support the humanistic aspects of health care and the learners capacity to successfully carry out tasks in the real world. The fundamental concepts and complexity of pain include how pain is observed and assessed, collaborative approaches to treatment options, and application of pain competencies across the lifespan in the context of various settings, populations, and care-team models.. This Interprofessional ...

Our data highlight the professionalism, respect and adaptability of these junior health professionals. We document the types of collaborative activities and tensions relevant in this context and, based on our findings, provide some strategies for improving IPC.
The results of this study confirm our moderated mediation hypotheses for financial barriers only. This suggests that IPC degree within integrated care initiatives was associated with patient care improvements through organisational improvements. However, this was less observed in initiatives facing financial barriers for the implementation of integrated care.. To our knowledge, this is the first study investigating whether the association between the degree of IPC in integrated care and patient care improvements is mediated by organisational improvements. In fact, our results complement the current literature about the impact of IPC on job satisfaction and well-being [11], suggesting that organisational improvements are necessary for IPC to improve patient care in integrated care initiatives. In other words, IPC interventions should adopt a systemic approach to achieve patient care improvements. This is in line with conceptual models considering care outcomes as products of interacting elements. ...

To all the doctors out there,. I think its time we have a chat. Really, its not fair to limit this talk to just doctors, though. This is really to all medical professionals. Doctors, nurses, medical assistants, nurse practitioners, physicians assistants, and so many others. Its time for us to talk about the things that so many of your patients are thinking and feeling but cant bring themselves to say to you.. There is a basic formula for how the doctor-patient relationship must work in order for people to remain healthy. It goes a little something like this:. competent and compassionate doctor + cooperative patient = relatively good health. There is one rather large component missing here, though. None of this will work, not one bit of it, without trust. Trust is the MOST critical piece of the working relationship between doctors and patients. The trust between medical professionals and patients is absolutely critical. If patients dont trust their doctors to really listen to them and ...

Regardless of the specific work activity, a primary thread running through all our training activities is the skill of Use of Self and its variants. For us, this means assisting the trainee in exploring and understanding the qualities and dynamics that he or she brings to each interpersonal encounter and how these facilitate or hinder effective interactions. It also means that the trainee is encouraged to become more attuned to his or her own thoughts and feelings in working with clients, and recognize how this increased self-awareness can be used to better understand client dynamics and develop effective treatment strategies. Because we believe in the working alliance as an indispensable ingredient in any helping relationship, we encourage trainees to recognize, improve, and employ those personal qualities that will assist in forming effective working relationships with clients, peers, center staff, and other members of the university community. Every child should have a medical home and those with special health care needs may have additional specialists and therapists (4-7). The primary care provider and needed specialists will create the Care Plan which will be the blueprint for healthy and safe inclusion into child care for the child with special health care needs.. ...

Mandatory reporting is also yet another attack on the professionalism of many workers who are considered incapable of making reporting decisions without a law. Already surrounded by bureaucracy, guidance, managerialism and procedures this will be yet another form of direction imposed on the practitioner. Who needs three years of study when its all in the book? Anyone else noticed that probation officers no longer need any qualifications in future?. Other questions arise. Will mandatory reporting have an impact on the therapeutic process? Will people be less open with their therapist knowing the worker has no margin of discretion and less confidential space to work in? If a report has to be made what will happen to the working relationship that had been established?. Mandatory reporting is not the panacea it appears at first sight and in the rush to do something we may end up with a worse situation than we have now..
