A common problem when applying Raman scattering in applied research is spectral interference from laser-induced fluorescence. Extensive work has been invested in developing spectral and polarization filters as well as modulation schemes to refine spontaneous Raman signals. This current work, however, focuses on utilizing the temporal domain using a picosecond laser system and ICCD cameras with relatively short decay of the camera gate to prevent the fluorescence tail from being captured in Raman experiments. Further, the approach of using an ICCD camera to perform temporal filtering is compared to earlier proposed detection schemes using streak cameras or Kerr gates. The temporal-filtering scheme is evaluated in a spectroscopic investigation where a background subtraction algorithm is presented. The temporal-filtering scheme was also evaluated for Raman imaging of a levitated water droplet surrounded by fluorescing toluene vapor. Furthermore, the temporal-filter detection scheme was simulated in ...
World-wide healthcare systems are faced with an epidemic of type 2 diabetes. In the United Kingdom, clinical care is primarily provided by general practitioners (GPs) rather than hospital specialists. Intermediate care clinics for diabetes (ICCD) potentially provide a model for supporting GPs in their care of people with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes and in their management of cardiovascular risk factors. This study aims to (1) compare patients with type 2 diabetes registered with practices that have access to an ICCD service with those that have access only to usual hospital care; (2) assess the cost-effectiveness of the intervention; and (3) explore the views and experiences of patients, health professionals and other stakeholders. This two-arm cluster randomized controlled trial (with integral economic evaluation and qualitative study) is set in general practices in three UK Primary Care Trusts. Practices are randomized to one of two groups with patients referred to either an ICCD (intervention)
Question: Why is ADAPT targeting nursing home operators?Answer: The nursing home industry is a $50 billion a year organization. If you happen to be 30 years old and disabled and live, say, in Ocala
The long-term care, post-acute care, and nursing home business is a very difficult business to be in. There is a constantly growing demand
ICCD AS has an idea to promote FTIR technology of Life Science as a novel DNA and protein sequencing technology directly used on reagent-free tumorous tissue samples for diagnosing, screening and predicting benign, premalignant and malignant human neoplastic diseases on the patients, based on innovations described in two PCT patent applications - PCT/EE2013/000001 & PCT/EE2013/000003 (Inventor: Natalja Eikje)..

The long-term and post-acute care environment has an image of lagging far behind its acute care counterparts on information technology adoption. For the most part, that perception is true.
Two-dimensional laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy is typically implemented using a monochromator equipped with an array detector to record segments of the dispersed fluorescence spectra for each laser excitation wavelength. When pulsed laser excitation is used the capabilities of this system for disentangling complex spectra can be further enhanced by time-gating the array detector. In the present work we are using an Intensified Charge-coupled Device (iCCD) that provides nanosecond time resolution and detection sensitivities that are comparable to photomultiplier tubes. We describe the marriage of a refurbished monochromator, an iCCD, and an Arduino microcontroller to collect temporally and spatially resolved emission spectra of transient small molecules. Recent data for the electronic transitions of the hypermetallic oxide MgOMg will be presented ...

Featuring new chapters on casino gambling and the nursing home industry, and updated throughout, the new edition of this highly readable text analyzes well-defined industries from commodities and manufacturing to distribution and services, showing how firms compete with one another. Each study gives appropriate attention to government policies that have influenced competitive conditions in the industry, and the material is presented without the use of calculus so that anyone with some background in economic principles can benefit from it. The book provides balance in regard to the mix of industries dealt with, and also in the varying perspectives of the contributors.

LANSING) - Michigan has received a failing grade for its quality of nursing homes following an investigation of nursing home care in all 50 states. Michigan is one of eleven states to receive an "F" and ranks 44th overall according to a report released on Aug. 8 by Families for Better Care, a Florida-based nursing home resident advocacy group.. "Two years ago, Michigan Protection and Advocacy Service (MPAS) exposed the horrendous abuses that occur in Michigans nursing home industry and this report shows nothing has improved," said Elmer L. Cerano, Executive Director of MPAS. "These owners and operators should be run out of Michigan and subjected to the fullest extent of the law for their failure to provide the care and safety for which they are paid.". The report used eight federal measures to gauge nursing home quality ranging from nursing staff hours to percent of facilities with deficiencies. Michigan failed to manage an above average grade in any statistical category measured. Other ...
