Maslovs hierarchy of needs comes to mind. I regard insanity as an instinctual survival mechanism. Insanity seems to be the outward expression of an overburdened body incapable of homeostasis. The survival mechanism seems to have a first order priority of repairing the body. When this fails, the last line of defense is fight or flight 24/7. Insanity. This explains the link between genius and insanity. Where most people would rather take it easy, the genius must continue on. He is driven internally by his instinctual desire to survive. What great minds fear most is not death, but oblivion. Producing great works, may set one into the history books, or museums of art to be known for eons and escaping this oblivion. It also explains how many genius die early. Their body and mind are unsound, and breaks down at a much faster rate than the norm ...
In criminal law, diminished responsibility (or diminished capacity) is a potential defense by excuse by which defendants argue that although they broke the law, they should not be held fully criminally liable for doing so, as their mental functions were "diminished" or impaired. The defenses acceptance in American jurisdictions varies considerably. The majority of states have adopted it by statute or case decision, and a minority even recognise broader defenses such as "irresistible impulse". Some American states restrict the defense to the charge of murder only where a successful defense will result in a manslaughter conviction instead of murder. Until recently, the Republic of Ireland did not accept the partial defense. The Irish Supreme Court had rejected the existence of the defense in DPP v OMahony.[1] The case was recently abrogated, however, by enactment of the Criminal Law (Insanity) Act 2006, effective June 1, 2006. The act, in pertinent part, specifically adopted the partial defense ...
Morris et al.29 also asked jurors, "What did you believe would happen to a defendant who was found not guilty by reason of insanity?" The results revealed that three jurors believed that the defendant would be placed in a special section of a prison for mentally ill individuals; three jurors thought the defendant would be incarcerated; one juror said the defendant would get probation; and three other jurors believed the defendant would be released into the community (Ref. 29, pp 1066-79). The research noted that some jurors understood that NGRI acquittees are generally hospitalized (Ref. 29, p 1068).. Wheatman and Shaffer30 studied mock-juror perceptions of the insanity defense. Half of the participants were given information about the consequences of an insanity verdict. Jury instructions on NGRI disposition had no effect on mock juror predeliberation preferences. However, there were differences in jury deliberation between those that were given explicit disposition instructions and those who ...

Alienists (psychiatrists) wanted to provide good care for the insane in their midst, and in the early years offered assistance primarily through therapeutic stays at insane asylums. These doctors favored regimens of rest, occupational therapy, and structured time probably served many patients well, but such programs could not help everyone. Alienists were still exploring the causes and treatments of insanity, and some of their thoughts missed the mark widely.. In an 1871 paper on mental disease (reported in the Transactions of the Medical Society of the State of North Carolina), the author described a "case of violent cerebral excitement" in a 5-year-old, which had been relieved by an oral dose of bromide of potassium. This case of "mental disease" seems to be clearly a case of epilepsy, and we can only wonder if the child was tagged for life as insane.. Another paper in the same publication discussed "Mania Transitoria," or insanity of very short duration. During this type of mania, people ...
Stop The Insanity: Alternatives To Animal Testing Essay, Research Paper Stop The Insanity: Alternatives to Animal Testing Every year, nearly 100 million animals die in research laboratories at the hands of curious scientists who perform outdated and inaccurate tests that prove no benefit to humans or animals.(Day 58) Before these animals die, they are routinely burned, scalded, poisoned, starved, given electric shocks, addicted to drugs, subjected to near freezing temperatures, dosed with radioactive elements, driven insane, and deliberately inflicted with diseases such as cancer, diabetes, oral infections, stomach ulcers, Syphilis, herpes, and AIDS.(McCoy 70-75) Their eyes are surgically removed; their brains and spinal cords damaged, and their bones broken.(McCoy 75-76) The use of anesthesia is not mandated by law, and as a result, is rarely administered.(McCoy 76) Despite all of this cruelty, animal experimentation has failed to provide any major breakthroughs this century in the treatment of cancer
Health and justice have to communicate whenever the question of legal responsibility is formally raised with respect to a person accused of a serious crime. Clinical and legal definitions of insanity do not match up in a 1:1 fashion. Once a criminal charge has been laid, the New Zealand (NZ) Justice system operates on adversarial, as opposed to inquisitorial, principles. The defence can seek a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity (NGRI). In which case, to assist the Court, both defence and prosecution seek independent psychiatric opinions on the applicability of criteria prescribed in section 23 of the NZ Crimes Act (1961) and subsequent, relevant, case law. From the outset the situation is contested in the sense that the prosecution and the defence seek opposite outcomes. Psychiatric evidence is presented to the court by expert witnesses whose opinions are separately sought by both the prosecution or the defence. Those witnesses are expected to be dispassionate and their opinions ...
Aaron Schaffhausens eyes were downcast Friday, April 12, as prosecutors showed jurors crime scene photographs from the River Falls, Wis., home where he killed his three young daughters last summer.. The photos, some of which were graphic and showed large amounts of blood, were displayed as state crime lab employees took the stand in Schaffhausens insanity trial to discuss evidence from the scene. Much of the blood was discovered in the bedroom of the youngest girl, Cecilia, but smaller amounts were found in other areas of the house, including on a basement washing machine. Members of the girls family became emotional during the showing of the photos, but Schaffhausen did not appear to react. Defense attorney John Kucinski at one point objected to testimony being heard from a forensic scientist with the crime lab, who tested the DNA of blood found in the home, on the grounds it was not relevant in the insanity phase of the trial because it did not concern Schaffhausens mental health. ...

I started insanity workout and finished the sixth week and stopped for some reasons. A month later I decided to start again and did the fit test, which was really painful with a state of mind of reaching the same level as my last fit test before I stopped. I eventually could reach the same level. Then I continued the insanity workout starting directly at the sixth week. I couldnt do it continuously and had to stop at many points because of strong dizziness. Skipping some 45 seconds cycles I was able to finish it. My question is if those dizziness periods are dangerous and what are the causes behind them? lack of oxygen? fatigue? or just a heart that is not powerful enough to keep up with the pace?. ...

Interval training allows you to beat the "stress adaptation response," which is what happens when your body gets used to exercising at one level of exertion and stops improving. An interval workout includes a set where you perform at your maximum, followed by one of lower intensity, with the cycle repeated to achieve a cumulative effect.. INSANITY uses MAX Interval Training, which replaces your moderate- intensity exercise with maximum-intensity exercise, and your short intervals of intensity with short periods of rest. Adding high-intensity exercise, during which your heart rate increases to 80 percent or more of its maximum capacity, forces your body to use fast-twitch muscle fibers not normally engaged in cardio exercise. These fast-twitch fibers continue burning extra fuel even during lower-intensity exercise.. INSANITYs high-intensity activity is likely to have you working out at over 85 percent of your maximum capacity, instead of the lower rate recommended in other programs. As a result, ...
Reframing the nature of criminal responsibility in this way opens up the possibility of linking the forensic assessment with research and discussions on competent decision-making.9,10 In fact, unlike assessments of criminal responsibility, assessments of competence have been studied extensively.10 There continue to be major disagreements on how competence should be approached,11-14 but much research has been done and views have crystallized.15 Given the basic similarity, as suggested by Juth and Lorentzon (in addition to other resemblances10,16), forensic psychiatry may well be in a position to learn something about criminal responsibility directly from research on a patients competence.. Let us consider this possibility in more detail. Often, four abilities or skills are considered to be necessary for (autonomous) decision-making: to express a choice, to understand the relevant information, to appreciate ones situation and its consequences, and to reason about treatment options.15,17 These ...
Dr. John Nugent said that his experience of twenty-six years among lunatics, led him to believe that there is a very close relation between the results of the abuse of alcohol and insanity. The population of Ireland had decreased, he said, two millions in twenty-five years, but there was the same amount of insanity now that there was before. He attributed this, in a great measure, to indulgence in drink. Dr. Arthur Mitchell, Commissioner of Lunacy for Scotland, testified that the excessive use of alcohol caused a large amount of the lunacy, crime and pauperism of that country. In some men, he said, habitual drinking leads to other diseases than insanity, because the effect is always in the direction of the proclivity, but it is certain that there are many in whom there is a clear proclivity to insanity, who would escape that dreadful consummation but for drinking; excessive drinking in many persons determining the insanity to which they are, at any rate, predisposed . The children of drunkards, ...

Insanity associated with nervous diseases. 1. AMENTIA Amentia is called " dementia naturalis " by lawyers, and results from arrested development of the brain before birth or in early childhood. It includes chiefly the types of insanity, known as idiocy, imbecility, feeble- mindedness and cretinism. Idiocy. This is a congeni- tal condition, due to the defective development of the mental faculties. All grades of this condition exist from the helpless life of a mere ...
We hold that, when a criminal defendant establishes by a preponderance of the evidence that he is not guilty of a crime by reason of insanity, the Constitution permits the Government, on the basis of the insanity judgment, to confine him to a mental institution until such time as he has regained his sanity or is no longer a danger to himself or society. This holding accords with the widely and reasonably held view that insanity acquitees constitute a special class that should be treated differently from other candidates for commitment. [Footnote 20] We have observed before that,. "[w]hen Congress undertakes to act in areas fraught with medical and scientific uncertainties, legislative options must be especially broad, and courts should be cautious not to rewrite legislation. . . .". Marshall v. United States, 414 U.S. at 414 U. S. 427. This admonition has particular force in the context of legislative efforts to deal with the special problems raised by the insanity defense.. Psychiatrists for both sides in the trial of a man, charged with attempting to murder his pregnant sister, have said hes entitled to a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity.
At the heart of the case of Josephine McCarty is an inescapable contradiction: in January 1872 Mrs. McCarty shot and killed a man in broad daylight, on a streetcar full of passengers, and by June she was acquitted, free once again to ride the streetcar like any other Utican, to travel at will, and to…
Where D knows the nature and quality of the act, insanity might still be available if D does not know that what he did was wrong. Does wrong mean contrary to the criminal law or morally unacceptable or both? In MNaghten the Lords said that if D knew he was acting contrary to law then he would not have a defence, even if D had a disease of the mind. This clearly suggests that D will have a defence if he does not realise he is committing a crime.. Windle [1952] Ds wife spoke often of committing suicide. One day, D killed his wife with an overdose of aspirin. When giving himself up to police, he said "I suppose they will hang me for this." Despite medical evidence he was suffering from mental illness (folie à deux), his words demonstrated he clearly knew that what he did was legally wrong (but presumably thought he was morally right). D was convicted of murder, no special verdict and he was hung.. Lord Goddard CJ: "Courts of law can only distinguish between that which is in accordance with law ...

Much of the therapy for insanity was experimental, and a number of treatments likely inflicted a great deal of harm and discomfort on patients. Something like Pilgrims Tub Therapy (see last post) may have resulted in a waterlogged and weakened patient, but would not have otherwise imposed great trauma, particularly since the treatment was almost always voluntary. On the other hand, shock treatments could be both violent and frightening.. In the 1930s, psychiatrists began experimenting with various kinds of treatments that threw the body into convulsions. For some reason-and they did not know why-convulsions often helped patients with depression and other problems. In 1933, Ladislaus (also Ladislas) von Meduna began inducing convulsions through intravenous drugs. He had noticed that schizophrenia and epilepsy could not seem to co-exist, and believed that controllable convulsions would cure schizophrenics.. ...

Oh! Stop the insanity, DIET has become a four letter word. The dictionary defines diet as the kinds of food a person, animal or community habitually eats. However, today diet is associated with starvation, deprivation, anorexia, bulimia, eating disorders and negative body image. It has spiraled downwards into confusion and rampage, people who do not need to diet continue to diet and people who need to diet dig their feet deeper and proudly declare curves as the new standard of beauty, stomping on peoples fear of being politically incorrect.. You can have a high-horse opinion about quick fixes and restrictive diets but there are times when a person with morbid obesity/serious condition needs to bring their weight down drastically in a short time for many reasons. Some short cuts are necessary to kick start the process but a long-term approach after the short cut is of the utmost importance for both medical/healthcare professional and patient to focus on. Why am I in any way supporting short ...

Wilkin and his colleagues studied all men born in Copenhagen between 1944 & 1947 which numbered 31346. Out of this the investigators chase all those who were above 6 ft. tall (as it is considered that very tall men have a chance of XYY chromosome). The number of men they selected by this process was 4591. Necessary tests using blood and mucous smear obtained from check of each person were conducted to identify extra Y chromosome. They also obtained records of criminal offences, school reports and estimates regarding the intelligence of each of these persons. Finally they identified 12 XYY men out of which 5 had been convicted for one or more criminal offences, from the rest of the XY men, 9.3% as against 41.7% of XYY men, were found to have criminal records. It should not however be concluded from this that there is a relationship between extra Y chromosome and sociopathy.. ...

By equating methadone with opiate treatment, you cant lose the argument because youve never actually stopped taking opiates! Is it just me or are methadone pumpers completely lost? Opiate recovery refers to freedom from opiates, so how is that possible when your recovery is defined by remaining on opiates? More importantly, it refers to regaining the power of choice, and of course, there is no restoration of choice or willpower by the simple act of substituting one opiate for another? If you stop taking methadone and the obsession immediately strangles and suffocates you until you use, how are you in recovery? I dont get it. Putting a mask over your insanity to deal with your insanity is insane, obviously. Your illness is progressing the entire time and if you dont die on methadone, the run you go on when you taper will most likely end you, especially given the fact that methadone withdrawal puts heroin withdrawal to shame ...

I addressed the issue of whether Heads of States (or other State officials) have immunity in proceedings before international tribunals in an article in the American Journal of International Law some years. The Pre-Trial Chamber in reaching its decision makes reference to the provision of the Statutes of the Nuremberg tribunal, the Tokyo Tribunal, the ICTY and ICTR which all say that the official position of the accused shall not relieve him from criminal responsibility. This is supposed to be impressive evidence for a rule of customary international law that the heads of states are not immune from the jurisdiction of international tribunals. This is not at all the case.. In the first place, the provisions in question relate to the question whether the Head of State or official bears criminal responsibility. To say that official capacity does not exclude criminal responsibility is not necessarily to say that the person may not be immune from the jurisdiction of particular tribunals. No one today ...

The word depression, or what doctors call depressive disorder, would hardly set the alarm bells going for most of us, but remember, the situation could be as serious as any terminal illness. Physicians have been aware of this mental condition for many centuries. Greek and Roman doctors believed melancholia was a form of insanity; and in Charak Samhita we are told of shokajanya unmaanda, that is, grief resulting in insanity. But it is only in the present century that depression has begun to be taken seriously by doctors and psychologists.. Some experts fear that if effective measures are not taken, then by the year 2020 depression might become the second biggest ailment, after heart diseases. Highlighting the seriousness of the problem, Dr Ajit Avasthi, Additional Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, PGI, says:In our country depression is often accompanied with physical symptoms, hence, it is often inadequately diagnosed and treated. Depression often affects the course and outcome of ...
Well written and researched, Mad in America is the first of two books that journalist Robert Whitaker has written about mental illness. Whitaker has won numerous awards for his work on medicine and science. Here his graphic description of the treatment of the mentally ill from the late 1700s up until the present day is riveting, spell-binding, and sometimes unbelievable.. Back in the 1700s the mentally ill were institutionally housed in unheated, dingy cells, confined in chains, and displayed for public amusement. These "lunatics," "brutes," and "wild beasts" needed to be subdued and kept fearful of their captors.. Private asylums in England, which were owned by doctors, were known to be places where husbands could get rid of annoying wives or relatives. Physicians became the sole arbiters to determine the diagnosis of insanity and some became quite wealthy at their "practice." The number of madhouses soon doubled and insanity became a common condition. Women were often the victim of "asylum ...

Mental illness is very real to me. I lost one of my brothers to suicide. There is nothing painless about it, as one popular song goes. Its been many years, but i still feel the loss of one so dear to me. He was a gentle spirit, sweet and kind. I...

said …. Look I grew up in my younger life in a Church, BUT about two decades ago as a teenager I was experimenting with being an Athiest. And that was only a step up from another level, Not Giving a Monkeys.. Yet the sheer force of logic and the omnipresent obviousness of Gods existence led me to return to my roots as a believer, now every day I get stronger and wiser.. So there is hope for everyone; provided you dont let your hope time out, for then there is nothing but eternal corruption. Omnipotent means being able TECHNICALLY to do anything. Wise means using your Omnipotence to do the most valuable things. Justice means being fair and a fair God puts himself first or he is not God. More than the Loving or the Power - God is the First and the Put-First.. If God helps man to his detriment or indignity only then is he a dumb God - and that is in the final analysis.. As Plato argued nothing (no situation, thing or otherwise) is tenable without Justice. The closest God came to being unjust ...
That makes way too much sense and not enough cents. Id guess if everything became legal, the person that is burgling homes and businesses now wouldnt have to steal $2,500.00 worth of merchandise to get $100.00 from a fence to feed their habit, they could actually collect aluminum cans roadside to feed their jones. Then You could also release all those currently incarcerated under any drug beef and keep the murderers and rapists behind bars and make them actually do their full bit.. This would also cut into the Private Prisons income and We could do away with the Prison Lobby ...
We are a research-based company. We engage in research to find new drugs for treatment of CNS disorders, include ing depression, schizophrenia, Alzheimers disease, Parkinsons disease and insomnia. These are serious disorders. They affect not only patients, but also their families and friends. Besides the stress of having a CNS disorder, patients are often exposed to prejudice because, in many sections of society, there is still far too little understanding of how adversely a CNS disorder affects an individuals life. We have taken upon ourselves the task of improving quality of life for persons with a psychiatric or neurological disorder, and we are working intensely to find and develop new and improved drugs. We believe that we can make a significant difference, and we are happy to do so in cooperation with others ...
How did madness, which had been classified as a Wind or demonic illness in most medical treatises until at least the 10th century, come to be attributed almost unfailingly to mucus and Fire by the 14th? This chapter unravels the complicated process by which Wind medicine was displaced and emetics and purgatives replaced moxibustion and apotropaic pharmacy as the main medical treatments for mad behavior. It also explains how physicians used these novel doctrines to affirm their superiority over ritual healers, and how the attribution of insanity to mucus eventually became a culturally ubiquitous way of explaining the failures of human actions and perceptions. Since these momentous shifts took place discreetly and with few controversies on the nature of insanity, my explanations draw on broader trends such as state sponsorship of medicine, increasing interest in the inner mechanisms of illness, and the rising prominence of syncretic approaches to medical learning. ...
Representative Kevin Brady (R-TX) and Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS) have put together a new visual chart that helps illustrate the complexity of the recently-passed U.S. health care "reform" bill. The highly-complex organizational chart, which is blanketed in bubbles and lines branching from the Secretary of Health and Human Services, represents a mere third of the massive regulatory and bureaucratic nightmare mandated in the bill ...
Now we have an attempt to use mathematical statements that describe beliefs. Belief = emotion + logic.. As you should see by this silly example, the variable of emotion, not only does nothing to help the equation, the belief could vary from person to person. And if the holder of that belief dies, so goes their belief. Archimedes died with his beliefs but mathematicians today might think of his equation as: D[meh] = M/V, yet the truth value still holds even if no one believes it.. The example above appears silly when you attach an emotion to a mathematical statement, but the very same thing happens when you use beliefs in your language. Once you take out the emotional aspect of your belief from your statement, it would not, by definition, equal a belief. You would simply have a propositional statement. I believe that it will rain, would turn into, It will rain. Now if that seems too certain an expression, simply describe your uncertainty such as: It probably will rain tonight, or It may ...
Its raining cats and dogs!". "Hes having a hay day". "Lets toast the bride!". Really?. Toast the bride…are you serious?. Being autistic can throw one for a loop, metaphorically speaking, when it comes to everyday communications that the rest of us take for granted.. Idioms like the quotes above are second nature, even funny, to us yet can be confusing and frustrating to the autistic.. They might look up looking for falling cats and dogs, or really think youre going to toast the bride like a piece of bread gets "toasted.". What appears to be an obvious joke and other "humorous" events can be a serious issue for an autistic. Imagine for a moment if someone told you, with a grim look on their face, that they really were going to "toast" the bride. That would certainly be cause for alarm to the average law abiding citizen and no doubt put you on edge at the very least.. Beyond lack of comprehending slight-of-language, an autistic may also lack a sense of reality, especially in situations ...
Radio Reg What in heavens name was Yahoo! thinking by purchasing Zimbra for a stunning $350m? Well, Matt Asay, Dave Rosenberg and I cover everything you could ever want to know about this deal in Episode 3 of Open Season. Insight? Hilarity? Ego-fueled punditry? Yep, its all there.. If Zimbras not your thing, thats just fine.. We also discuss Googles super-secret project that may or may not be happening around creating a new open source software licensing model. Its a rich stance for a company that sucks down way more open source code than it puts back, but then Google is rich - and how. The fresh dish of Open Season also looks at Microsofts woes with Europe and MuleSources new On Demand offering.. As usual, those of you who want to skip the punditry can head to section two of the broadcast where we try and talk about things that are actually helpful for open source businesses. That section kicks off at about Minute 37.. Youll find the complete show notes below and can, as always, send ...
If you or anybody in your family has myalgic encephalomyelitis, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis or Alzheimers, you can send a blood sample to Dr. Les Simpson in New Zealand for testing.. If you are ill with these diseases, your red blood cells will not be normal doughnut-shaped blood cells capable of being compressed and squeezed through the capillaries, but will swell up like cherry-filled doughnuts which cannot be compressed. The blood cells become enlarged and distended because the only way the mycoplasma can exist is by uptaking pre-formed sterols from the host cell. One of the best sources of pre-formed sterols is cholesterol, and cholesterol is what gives your blood cells flexibility. If the cholesterol is taken out by the mycoplasma, the red blood cell swells up and doesnt go through, and the person begins to feel all the aches and pains and all the damage it causes to the brain, the heart, the stomach, the feet and the whole body because blood and oxygen are cut off.. And that is why ...

Im not sure why but I seem to have really bad luck when it comes to getting my blood drawn. It seems that I always get the people that have no idea what theyre doing or are new. I went to get my blood drawn yesterday at the Salt Lake Clinic. My doctor told me to go at 7:30 am so I got there a little before that so I could sign in and whatnot. First I sat there for over an hour because the person doing the checking in was confused about my lap request. I had two. One was a standing order and the other was a one time deal that I was having done that day. She just couldnt figure it out and no matter how many times I told her she just couldnt seem to get it. And then you add in the fact that I was dropping off something too...it was just too much for her to handle. Second: So i finally get called back and the girl (different girl from the confused check-in girl) looked a little nervous and unsure of herself. Thats exactly what you want in someone that is about to stick a needle in your arm and ...
This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Straight Talk for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.. Okay I dont know about you, but my contract phone service is about to drive me crazy. We have been with two different carriers over the last few years, and with both it sometimes feels like we are chained into a program that we arent sure will even be the same six months from now.. **Soap Box Alert**. Dont you love how two years ago they made it mandatory to have an unlimited data plan if you purchased a smart phone. They hyped the biggest and best phones then forced you to take a large plan reassuring you that it was for your own protection because you would be using all that data anyway. So if you had a small plan you would rack up exorbitant charges when you used all the data they said we would be using. Then two months ago they say they are now going to limit the data usage, and you never really used all that much after all, so you wont miss it. Yah they really wanted to protect ...
Alternatively, the caster may delve deeply into the alien intelligence of the natural world in order to receive advice and information on any subject. The vivimancer may ask as many questions as he wishes, and will receive answers in the form of riddles or cryptic statements with a 75% chance of containing hints at the truth - the vast and subtle intelligence of the natural world is so radically different to human intelligence that straightforward answers can never be obtained. Each question asked in this way carries with it a risk of insanity, as the caster opens himself to the inhuman mind of nature. A saving throw versus spells is required, with failure causing the caster to be afflicted with a form of insanity lasting for 1d4 weeks. The saving throw is penalized by -1 per question asked beyond the first. This process takes one hour per question asked ...
So mamacita gets on the phone, "Were not getting lost, we are lost" (chuckles from The Dad heard in the background) "Were trying to find a KMart and your sister refuses to stop and ask someone. I mean, we keep passing people that I think look like KMart shoppers, but will she stop? Nooooooooo." (more chuckles and muffled speech from The Mom and The Dad, apparently in the back seat... oh, by the way, these are Vinnys parental units). My mamacita continues, "The Dad noticed that there were quite a lot of cops in the park we just drove through but your sister wouldnt stop to ask them either......... well, The Mom did notice that there were several people in handcuffs next to the cars so that was probably best ...
I have a confession to make: I am possibly the most impatient person on the earth. Now this does not seem to apply to my children or my friends. And my husband...well lets not get into that one. Its not a problem for me to wait in line, wait my turn, or wait for hell to freeze over as long as I get my turn when the time comes. But waiting for lab results, test results, doctor calls, pharmacy calls, and insurance calls is more than I can bear. I feel like I am stuck in one place, unable to move until the phone rings, IF the phone rings. And run out of patience and call them back is only to add to the wait and incur some nasty reply when you do so. And so I wait... ...
After the trauma of thursday, my body has still been trying to recover and just heal. Should be a fairly simply process, yes? We must remember who we are dealing with here. Normal people, yes. Healing from such a "simple" procedure should have been a fairly simply process. I was feeling pretty good and i went about my business saturday sunday. Went to work on Monday and I started to feel crappy and sort of feverish. As the day went on my right side started to hurt more and more. Every time i got up from my desk it felt like my insides were being ripped apart. I ended up going home a little early. As the night went on the pain just got worse and worse. I had been taking advil all day and my mom gave me half a lortab around 9:00 and i went to bed. I didnt sleep the entire night...well thats not entirely true. I think I sort of dozed off for about an hour around 3am. I got up the next morning and the pain just continued to get worse. Since it was on the right side and it was in the same general ...
There have been earlier sporadic anecdotal reports about misdeeds of "mentally deranged" children. Rarely does one come upon an effort to look for explanations on other than pseudomoralistic grounds. All that even the great Esquirol had to say in 1838 about a "little homicidal maniac" was that the 11-year-old girl who had pushed two infants into a well "was known for her evil habits." Maudsley himself, searching for an etiologic common denominator, stated that "neurotic parents" implant a genetic predisposition for the fulminant effects of fright, chorea, convulsions, or cerebral trauma; he raised the question whether all "insanities" of children could be forms of "larvated epilepsy.". Maudsleys chapter is a major landmark in the history of childhood psychoses, which soon became a legitimate topic of psychiatric curiosity. It is worthy of note that in the first 45 volumes of the American Journal of Insanity (1844-1889) there was not a single article pertaining to children. In 1883 Clevenger, ...
One months ago, I was hanging by the seat belt in a sideways car across the lane of a windy mountain highway in Mexico. Blood was streaming from my elbow. My thoughts were focused on the immediate there and then. Now its time for reflection.. Hwy 1 - Baja, Mexico. Jan 3rd.. For most of the longitudinal span of the Baja peninsula, the only paved road is a single lane highway with the lanes heading in opposite directions separated by a dashed yellow stripe. The most frequent sign on the side of this road is curvas peligrosas [dangerous curves]. As frequent as the symbolic are the more realistic reminders of the danger. These come in the form of variously disfigured and discarded vehicles, or the harder-to-spot mechanical entrails, such as headlights and shredded tires, but also dents on the guard rails and scars on the road itself.. From the way people drive you wouldnt know it. There is a bimodal distribution of speeds on this highway. There were those I glimpsed on their quick approach in the ...
Many of you saw EAs Battlefield 3 presentation but what you may or may not have noticed was the soldier holding a toy dinosaur at the beginning of the video. If you are like me you probably skipped right over it assuming it to be a piece to tie the game with reality. Boy were we wrong. Not only is it not to tie in with reality, it is to reinforce the false reality that is 4chan. We have spoken of the insanity that is 4chan, such as the war with Tumblr or their open attack on Scientology but we have never spoken of their truly positive influences on society, through insanity, of course. Someone posted, shortly after the Modern Warfare 2 launch, claiming to be an Activision employee, asking what people thought of the game. The reaction was unanimous - a total lack of dinosaurs. Now, I know what youre thinking, "Its true. There were no dinosaurs in the game, but why does that matter?" It doesnt, it was the first thing someone thought of and everyone followed along. You can see the posts in the ...

It appears that the $20 million in taxpayer dollars that the FBI has thus far spent in regard to its now infamous investigation of Hillary Clinton, has become a textbook illustration of the dangers of partisanship.. And moreover, why the Democratic and Republican parties have become nothing more than an ineffective fixture of Rothschild Zionism, and its attempt to undermine our once thriving Constitutional Republic, by replacing it with a corporation that continues to attempt to pass itself off as a legitimate form of government. One which should be expediently abolished.. FBI Director Comey, seems to have now found himself in a position of having to stonewall the American people, having likely been told by the head of the DOJ, that they will not indict Hillary Clinton no matter what evidence of malfeasance the FBI can produce in regard this carpet bagger.. So what is the FBI to do, when the Republican Party will not let up on Clinton, the Democratic Party will not indict her regardless of what ...
In looking hack to the medieval ages, we find them to be times in which abnormal social phenomena were displayed on a grand scale―times teeming with mobs, riots, revolts; with blind movements of vast human masses; with terrible epidemics that ravaged Europe from end to end. They were ages peculiar for the strange, striking fact that whole cities, extensive provinces, great countries, were stricken by one disease. Men went mad in packs, by the thousands. An obscure individual in some remote country place had fits of hysterics, and soon all Europe was wriggling and struggling in convulsions of hysterical insanity. The dark ages were strange, peculiar―so, at least, do they appear to us, who consider ourselves vastly superior to the poor ignorant medieval peasant, burgher, knight, with their superstitious, religious fervor, and recurrent epidemic insanities. I am afraid, however, that a similar fate may overtake us. May not a future historian look to our own times with dismay, and perhaps with ...
Arwen on March 9, 2011 at 7:21 pm.. Ive been pregnant twice & HCG didnt make me disinterested in food. The progesterone-based nausea was a disincentive, but I was hungry when not nauseated. Diets are bizarre. In somewhat fat-positive news: I have very large breasts, even for my frame, and am death-fats. Also, Im very active. My breasts, combined with all the flinging I do, have caused me to have a painful swelling of my rib cartilage. Doctors have suggested breast reductions, and Im in agreement - with my tum or my thighs, I am able to build muscle to support them, but I havent been able to deal with my breasts that way, and now my ribs hurt!. Anyway, because of my weight, theyre not entirely sure that the anesthetists will agree to put me under for somewhat-elective-surgery … but every single one of the doctors so far has listened to me explain why I dont diet, has looked over the research Ive brought, and has treated me sensibly and with respect. The surgeon booked for a hospital ...

Even if you never played football, youve probably heard the term Hell Week. This is generally the first official week of football practice, which takes place before the start of school so the coaches can put the hammer down and not have to worry about whether or not the players can walk to class when theyre done.
As humanity is rapidly approaching the so-called singularity, I believe that theres a need for us to understand and prepare for the world that is going to be. Some may have a very...
2) 5UTRs are regulating translation (mRNA-specific enhancers of translation bind to them and thus regulate translation initiation) and localization within the mitochondria, thus coupling translation and insertion of the mRNA into the membrane. Most of the proteins that are translated in yeast mitochondria are intermembrane proteins involved in respiration and ATP production (review Towpik 2005 PIMD 16341268), thus coupling translation and insertion is a must. And indeed, when multisubunit complexes are assembled, translation of the individual subunits is geometrically coordinated (Naithani 2003 PIMD 12529447 ...
Page ii - The peculiar advantage of the treatise of Mr. Lawrence is, that he explains his views on the anatomy , * of hernia and the different varieties of the disease in a manner which renders his book peculiarly useful to the student. It must be superfluous to express our opinion of its value to the surgical practitioner. As a treatise on hernia, presenting a complete view of the literature of the subject, it stands in the first rank. ...
