Joint, spinal and soft tissue injections are commonly performed by rheumatologists in their daily practice. Contrary to other procedures, e.g. performed in pediatric care, little is known about the frequency, the intensity and the management of procedural pain observed in osteo-articular injections in daily practice. This observational, prospective, national study was carried out among a French national representative database of primary rheumatologists to evaluate the prevalence and intensity of pain caused by intra-and peri-articular injections, synovial fluid aspirations, soft tissue injections, and spinal injections. For each physician, data were collected over 1 month, for up to 40 consecutive patients (|18-years-old) for whom a synovial fluid aspiration, an intra or peri-articular injection or a spinal injection were carried out during consultations. Statistical analysis was carried out in order to compare patients who had suffered from pain whilst undergoing the procedure to those who had not.

Hi!. I herniated L5/S1 in 2003. I had 3 spinal injections and 8 weeks of PT. I did not have pain, but instead numbness. To this day I still have numbness along the back of my quad, hamstring and into the 2 little toes on the left side of my left leg. The quad, hamstring and calf muscles in my left leg are always a little tigher than my right, so I have to be diligent about stretching and maintaining flexibility. I also find that some yoga moves for the back work great at keeping my back pain-free. I also spend some time working on my core muscles. I must keep at the stretching and exercises otherwise my body will get a little angry. I herniated my disc in July of 2003, I returned to running in October of 2003 and have ran marathons every year since. The docs say that a good percentage of people will heal from a herniation w/out surgery. I am healed, but still have residual numbness that I expect to always have. I am 58 years old and until 5 years ago had maintained my same weight almost consistently since I was in my early 20s (120-125 lbs, except for a few life-changing events - baby, divorce, etc.) When I hit about 53 years old I not only went into menopause with a vengeance, but also suffered a serious back injury. For my back problems the dr. gave me numerous steriod spinal injections - didnt help my back, but afterward I was told I would put on weight because of the steriods. So between the menopause and the steroids - I gained 30 pounds. My options for exercise are limited to almost nothing because of my back. i eat healthy and conservatively - but no weight loss. Patients with leptomeningeal disease (LMD) from melanoma have very poor outcomes and few treatment options. We present a case of intrathecal (IT) administration of autologous tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) in a patient with LMD from metastatic melanoma. The patient developed LMD after previous treatments with surgery, high-dose bolus interleukin-2 (HD IL-2), and systemic TIL infusion and experienced radiographic progression after intrathecal IL2 (IT IL-2) therapy. The patient received weekly treatment with increasing numbers of IT TIL followed by twice-weekly IT IL-2. The patient received three TIL infusions and did not experience any toxicities beyond those expected with IT IL-2 therapy. Analysis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) demonstrated increased inflammatory cytokines following the intrathecal treatments.
