One prominent symptom of acute toxicity from 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p- dioxin (TCDD) is a loss of adipose tissue and body weight, a phenomenon known as the wasting syndrome. In the current study, we examined the effect of TCDD on glucose transport in mice. A single intraperitoneal dose of TCDD (116 micrograms/kg) resulted in a time-dependent decrease in transport activity in adipose tissue and brains of C57BL/6 mice. Reduction of transport occurred within 24 hr in both tissues. In adipose tissue a slight recovery was observed by 30 days, but in the brains of treated animals glucose transport was significantly decreased even at the latest time. A comparison of dose-response relationships for several tissues between C57BL/6 (TCDD-responsive) and DBA/2J (TCDD-nonresponsive) mice showed parallel curves, with the C57BL/6 animals showing a 10-20-fold greater sensitivity. Amyloid-β (Aβ), a natural product of cell metabolism, plays a key role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimers disease (AD). Epidemiological studies indicate patients with AD have an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Stephanie did ~60% of her injections in her legs (the remainder in her tummy) so it was natural for her to use her inner thighs for infusion sets, too. She has great absorption there and has never had a problem with those sites. She has also used her arms several times, and although the absorption is good, she has decided that the tube snaking through her sleeve and shirt can get in the way more often than with tummy and leg sites. Chronic treatment with leptin regulates body weight and energy balance and reduces food intake in obese and lean mice. In 18- to 20-h fasted lean mice (C57BL/6, +/+), we examined the acute effect of a single intraperitoneal injection of recombinant mouse leptin (0.12 mg/kg) on food intake and gastric emptying. Leptin reduced food intake, with a peak inhibition at the 5th h postinjection (69 +/- 12%/h), although there was no change in food consumption at the 1st h. Hemolysin formation was studied in normal rats. It was found that a single intraperitoneal injection of 1 cc. of a 10 per cent suspension of red blood cells results in an optimum high hemolysin titer 5 days after injection. The recommended treatment of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) includes optimal surgical debulking to , 1 cm residual disease, followed by a combination of intraperitoneal (IP) and intravenous (IV) chemotherapy for at least 6 cycles. Serous EOC is known to spread transperitoneally and is often diffusely disseminated within the peritoneal cavity. It is believed that IP therapy via direct contact is effective in treating such small intraperitoneal implants. What is not known is whether IP therapy is evenly distributed in individuals and to what degree adhesions and formation of scar tissue prevents the even distribution of chemotherapy within the belly, potentially impacting efficacy. Background: Adenomyosis is a gynecological disorder with symptoms most presenting as dysmenorrhea and heavy menstrual bleeding. However, the presence of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) among women with adenomyosis remains unclear. This study was designed to determine the prevalence of LUTS and factors related to the severity of these symptoms in this population. Methods: From July 2016 to November 2016, a total of 298 untreated symptomatic adenomyosis patients and 280 age-matched controls were enrolled. Demographics, LUTS, pain symptoms, ultrasonographic uterine size, and serum CA125 level were recorded. LUTS were evaluated using the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) questionnaire.
