Mô tả: Social network service (SNS) is an effective communication tool for the community of disabled people. However, there is a general paucity of research on web accessibility of SNSs. This study investigates web accessibility of four SNSs that are most popular among disabled people: Facebook, Twitter, Me2day, and Yozm. Eight disabled individuals were selected according to the type of disability: two with total blindness, two with low vision, two with brain lesions, and two with an upper extremity disability. The subjects were asked to perform four navigation-related tasks and ten general tasks for each SNS. The success rate of their performances and user satisfaction levels were then measured. The four SNSs, on average, attained a task success rate of 73 % and a user satisfaction score of 3.1 points (max. = 5), indicating that the disabled participants found the websites generally inconvenient. As a pioneering evaluative study of the web accessibility of major SNS sites for the disabled, ...
The paper looked at how as people are increasingly integrating online activities into their daily lives, disabled people are often impeded from accessing websites due to code and design barriers. Despite guidelines on how to improve web accessibility that have been around since the early days of the Web, accessibility adoption remains low. The responsibility to implement web accessibility tends to fall on web practitioners, yet prior scholarship has failed to adequately consult this group on their barriers to adoption ...
Subject: Problem accessing Citylights surveys. Hi Citylights,. Love your stories, but not your surveys! I cant use a mouse very much because my arms dont work well. Usually I tab around web pages. Anyway, on your survey page I was only able to get to the question about how many cars we have when I tabbed around. When I did try using the mouse to answer the where do I live question, I couldnt click on the words like I can on many other sites forms, I had to click the little circle before the words.. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which specifically mentions the Internet and other accessible information and communications technologies (ICT). An accessible Web can also help people with disabilities and older people more actively participate in society.. The Web is an opportunity for unprecedented access to information for people with disabilities. That is, the accessibility barriers to print, audio, and visual media can be much more easily overcome through web technologies. For example, when the primary way to get certain information was go to a library and read it on paper, there were significant barriers for many people with disabilities, including getting to the library, physically getting the resource, and reading the resource.. When that same information is also available on the Web in an accessible format, it is significantly easier for many people to access the information. Therefore, people with disabilities can have more effective and efficient access to ...

Chemoinformatics provides computer methods for learning from chemical data and for modeling tasks a chemist is facing. The field has evolved in the past 50 years and has substantially shaped how chemical research is performed by providing access to chemical information on a scale unattainable by traditional methods. Many physical, chemical and biological data have been predicted from structural data. For the early phases of drug design, methods have been developed that are used in all major pharmaceutical companies. However, all domains of chemistry can benefit from chemoinformatics methods; many areas that are not yet well developed, but could substantially gain from the use of chemoinformatics methods. The quality of data is of crucial importance for successful results. Computer-assisted structure elucidation and computer-assisted synthesis design have been attempted in the early years of chemoinformatics. Because of the importance of these fields to the chemist, new approaches should be made with

The Commission intends to support e-accessibility more actively within the framework of research and innovation policy.. Moreover, work on the development of standards for e-accessibility will be carried out, based on cooperation between stakeholders concerned and an exchange of good practices.. WEB-ACCESSIBILITY. Accessibility to the web means the possibility for disabled and/or elderly people to navigate and interact in this field. This type of accessibility is still underdeveloped in the European Union.. Strengthening web accessibility has a clear advantage, not only for disabled and/or elderly people, but also for the whole population and should also increase the competitiveness of enterprises in the long term.. Member States should improve web accessibility by 2010, in line ...
When two scientific disciplines meet, they can be mutually beneficial, fill each others voids - and complement each other, giving rise to unprecedented scientific opportunities. One such field of recent interest is chemoinformatics. Chemoinformatics plays a key role in areas as diverse as chemical genomics and drug discovery, the storage of chemical information in databases and the prediction of toxic substances. Today, these techniques are mostly used in pharmaceutical companies in the process of drug discovery, but also for example in "functional foods", designed by nutritional companies to improve body functions, such as for example digestion or brain function.. While bioinformatics is known since 1976 which is defined as "the study of informatics process in biotic systems", the emerging terminology in the pharmaceutical sector is commonly referred to as chemoinformatics, which is defined as the "mixing of information resources to transform data into information and information into ...

With societies aging all around the world, the global burden of degenerative diseases is expected to increase exponentially. From the perspective drug development, degenerative diseases represent an especially challenging class. Clinical trials, in this context often termed disease progression studies, are long, costly, require many individuals, and have low success rates. Therefore, it is crucial to use informative study designs and to analyze efficiently the obtained trial data. The development of novel approaches intended towards facilitating both the design and the analysis of disease progression studies was the aim of this thesis.. This aim was pursued in three stages (i) the characterization and extension of pharmacometric software, (ii) the development of new methodology around statistical power, and (iii) the demonstration of application benefits.. The optimal design software PopED was extended to simplify the application of optimal design methodology when planning a disease progression ...

Six Web-based services from 10 state websites were assessed for accessibility for people with disabilities. Five states with strong web accessibility policies and five with relatively weak accessibility policies were selected for comparison. Among a variety of measures for accessibility, including "Bobby," strong policy state websites were compared against weak policy state websites. Strong policy states showed a difference in the number of links on pages, their use of JavaScript, and a trend in how they passed Bobby priority 1. However, no other evidence of any apparent effect from strength of policy was found for accessibility on these websites. Overall, states showed similar levels of accessibility to other public websites in other similar studies. Issues and ways to improve state website accessibility are explored.. Mesoscopic simulation studies the structure, dynamics and properties of large molecular ensembles with millions of atoms: Its basic interacting units (beads) are no longer the nuclei and electrons of quantum chemical ab-initio calculations or the atom types of molecular mechanics but molecular fragments, molecules or even larger molecular entities. For its simulation setup and output a mesoscopic simulation kernel software uses abstract matrix (array) representations for bead topology and connectivity. Therefore a pure kernel-based mesoscopic simulation task is a tedious, time-consuming and error-prone venture that limits its practical use and application. A consequent cheminformatics approach tackles these problems and provides solutions for a considerably enhanced accessibility. This study aims at outlining a complete cheminformatics roadmap that frames a mesoscopic Molecular Fragment Dynamics (MFD) simulation kernel to allow its efficient use and practical application. The molecular fragment

The need for integrative analysis in cardiac physiology and pathophysiology is readily appreciated. Common heart diseases are multi-factorial, multi-genic, and linked to other systemic disorders such as diabetes, hypertension, or thyroid disease. The coupling between the L-type Calcium channels (LCCs, also known as dihydropyridine receptors, or DHPRs) and ryanodine receptors (RyRs) are important in the excitation-contraction (E-C) of cardiac myocytes. The influx of calcium releases the calcium store in the Sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR), a phenomenon known as the calcium induced calcium release (CICR). In fact, the latest ionic models of cardiac myocytes include more than 20 ionic fluxes and 40 ordinary differential equations.1 Computational methods and ionic models for cardiac electromechanics at different scales have also been developed and are available in the software package Continuity. Figure 2 shows an example of how Continuity is used to help develop dual pacemaker systems that are helping ...

Quantitative pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic and disease progression models are the core of the science of pharmacometrics which has been identified as one of the strategies that can make drug development more effective. To adequately develop and utilize these models one needs to carefully consider the nature of the data, choice of appropriate estimation methods, model evaluation strategies, and, most importantly, the intended use of the model.. The general aim of this thesis was to investigate how the use of pharmacometric models can improve the design and analysis of clinical trials within drug development. The development of pharmacometric models for clinical assessment scales in stroke and graded severity events, in this thesis, show the benefit of describing data as close to its true nature as possible, as it increases the predictive abilities and allows for mechanistic interpretations of the models. Performance of three estimation methods implemented in the mixed-effects modeling software ...

The new Web Accessibility regulations require Universities to conduct audits and testing across all their digital estates, form websites to learning environments. These tests can be carried out by external contractors or your own in-house teams (see Workshop 3 for how to do this yourself) Although built around common standards such as WCAG2.1, many people find accessibility test results and audit reports difficult to understand. Automatically generated reports or expert audits can produce a list of issues that need prioritising. Organisations must also decide how these accessibility barriers are communicated through their accessibility statement and how they can remediate them in the future. This session is aimed at anyone creating, managing or procuring digital content or systems. It will also be of value as an ...

This dataset contains published data on target, essentiality, links to PubMed, TBDB, TBCyc (which provides a pathway-based visualization of the entire cellular biochemical network) and human homolog information. The development of mobile cheminformatics apps could lower the barrier to drug discovery and promote collaboration. Therefore we have used this set of over 700 molecules screened versus Mtb and their targets to create a free mobile app (TB Mobile) that displays molecule structures and links to the bioinformatics data. By input of a molecular structures and performing a similarity search within the app we can infer potential targets or search by targets
My research targets understanding the health information needs of individuals in order to improve the access to easy-to-use health-related information for persons living with and at-risk for HIV. My work supports the premise that the development of information resources tailored to individuals needs is fundamental for health promotion and disease prevention. This perspective on consumer health informatics supports the health of individuals and has the potential to provide a sustainable public health impact. The Senior Capstone Experience for the computer science major is satisfied by completing a substantial computing project. Projects may involve software development, writing a literature review, or creating educational materials for particular topics or technologies. These projects will normally be completed as part of the required CSCI 410 Senior Seminar course, under the supervision of the course instructor. The capstone grade for each student will be determined collectively by the department faculty.. Computer science majors wishing to graduate with distinction will undertake a year-long senior undergraduate research project (earning UR Odyssey credit) to satisfy the capstone requirement. Each research project will be undertaken in close collaboration with a faculty member from the department. Each project will culminate in a public presentation, typically during the Spring semester of the senior year. Students interested in this option should have at least a 3.0 GPA in the major. Ideally, ...

Corin Anderson attended the University of Washington from 1993 through 2003. He earned a Bachelors degree in Computer Science & Math, and a Masters and Ph.D. in Computer Science. As an undergrad he was joined at the UW by his brother, Casey, and mother, Cathy, who earned Bachelors degrees in Compuer Engineering and Technical Communication. Then, while Corin completed his Ph.D. in CSE at UW, Casey also earned a Masters through the CSE Professional Masters Program. Sharing the college experience with family happened for the Andersons even before they attended UW. Corin, Casey, and Cathy all attended Highline Community College and graduated with Associates in Arts degree on the same night (and one day before Corin graduated from Foster High School in Tukwila, WA). Corins father, Craig, rounded out the Anderson family support network. Corin always felt that the culture of the CSE department was one of its best features, and he did what he could to contribute to it. Corin was known for decorating ...

The experimental methods for the prediction of molecular toxicity are tedious and time-consuming tasks. Thus, the computational approaches could be used to develop alternative methods for toxicity prediction. We have developed a tool for the prediction of molecular toxicity along with the aqueous solubility and permeability of any molecule/metabolite. Using a comprehensive and curated set of toxin molecules as a training set, the different chemical and structural based features such as descriptors and fingerprints were exploited for feature selection, optimization and development of machine learning based classification and regression models. The compositional differences in the distribution of atoms were apparent between toxins and non-toxins, and hence, the molecular features were used for the classification and regression. On ten-fold cross-validation, the descriptor-based, fingerprint-based and hybrid-based classification models showed similar accuracy (93%) and Matthewss correlation coefficient (0

A three-dimensional structure database of small molecular ligands that are bound to larger biomolecules deposited in the Protein Data Bank (PDB). PDB-Ligand is also a database tool that allows one to browse, classify, superimpose and visualize these structures. PDB-Ligand serves as an interactive structural analysis and clustering tool for all the ligand-binding structures in the PDB. PDB-Ligand also provides an easier way to obtain a number of different structure alignments of many related ligand-binding structures based on a simple and flexible ligand clustering method.
For the sake of clarity, we archived the various datasets we created from multiple sources with brief descriptions of the filtering and merging at each step. From the perspective of an organic chemist, ONSMP013 is probably the most useful at this time. It contains averaged measurements for 12634 organic compounds and excludes salts, inorganics or organometallics. The original file provided by Alfa Aesar contained several of these excluded compounds and can be obtained from ONSMP000. It might be interesting at some point to create a collection of melting points for inorganics or salts. We would welcome contributions of collections of melting points with different filters ...

From a computing cyberinfrastructure perspective, the research challenge is to integrate the very large scope and complexity of the domain discipline models and modeling styles and technologies into an integrated meta-system of models that are useable and understandable by decision-makers (producers, consumers, and policy makers). For model integration there are numerous existing approaches that solve part of the problem (such as, shared data using common, standard data models; service-oriented architectures; data integration and data mining; dynamic simulation) and numerous computing and programming technologies (we must integrate existing models developed in Matlab, Mathematica, ProModel, VenSim, Microsoft Excel, C, C++, Java, etc. and get them to run concurrently on distributed servers, grid clusters, etc.). However, no single approach solves the diversity of models and modeling styles we face, and there are no known combinations of computing architecture styles that address the integrated ...

The Office of Naval Research recently awarded $3.15 million to Chancellors Professor of Computer Science Michael Franz for a three-year grant, "Attack Surface Reduction for Binary Programs." Specifically, $2.33 million will go to UC Irvine, and the remaining funds will go to Dr. Herbert Bos, a collaborator on the project at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The goal is to increase software security by first stripping programs down to the basics and then rigorously analyzing and optimizing what is left. As Franz explains, "The attack surface describes all the different places that you have to defend, and if you have a smaller program, theres less to defend.". The problem, says Franz, is that "most programs are ridiculously large and complicated." They have grown over many years, and software publishers rarely remove anything; instead, they pile on additional functionality to ensure the product satisfies all potential consumers. Franz explains that this increases the likelihood of bugs and that all ...
