This work proposes a two-step nonlinear retinal image enhancement to compensate for those imperfections of retinal images. The first step reduces intensity fluctuations of the image and the second step attenuates impulsive noise while preserving retinal vessels. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to assess the feasibility of the application of sensitivity encoding (SENSE) to the T2-weighted breath-hold turbo spin-echo (BHTSE) sequence for evaluating focal hepatic lesions. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty consecutive patients with 43 focal liver lesions underwent BHTSE, BHTSE using SENSE with the conventional parameters, and BHTSE using SENSE with increased matrix and reduced echo-train length (ETL). There were 23 hepatocellular carcinomas in 21 patients, 10 hemangiomas in six, and 10 metastases in three. This work presents a novel technique for preprocessing fingerprint images. The method is based on the measurements of second moment descriptors and shape adaptation of scale-space operators with automatic scale selection (Lindeberg 1994). This procedure, which has been successfully used in the context of shape-from-texture and shape from disparity gradients, has several advantages when applied to fingerprint image enhancement, as observed by (Weickert 1995). In this work an adaptive approach for contrast enhancement has been presented. We modify a fixed-parameter enhancement method based on power transform to an adaptive technique based on maximum correlation between image pixels. Experimental results of the proposed approach show better details for the enhanced output image using the proposed correlative approach as compared to the fixed-parameter approach.
