Mosquitoes that typically carry West Nile virus remain active until the first couple of hard freezes, or nights below 28 degrees Fahrenheit," Dr. Damon T. Arnold, Director of the Illinois Department of Public Health said. People should continue to protect themselves against mosquitoes by wearing insect repellent and by trying to reduce any standing water around their homes.". SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has confirmed the first human West Nile virus case reported in central Illinois for 2013. The Tazewell County Health Department reported a man in his 50s became ill earlier this month.. "We are seeing high temperatures and dry weather, which are the perfect conditions for creating mosquito breeding grounds," said Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. LaMar Hasbrouck. "The mosquitoes that typically carry West Nile virus breed in stagnant water water left sitting in storm drains or in containers around the outside of your home. So dump out those containers and take other precautions against mosquito bites, like wearing insect repellent.". To date, West Nile virus positive birds, mosquitoes and/or human cases have been reported in 52 counties. The first human case this year was reported on Wednesday, August 21st in a McHenry County woman in her 50s. Last year the first human case was reported July 24, 2012.. For the 2012 ...
I am one of them. I left Illinois in the 1990s for Indiana. I have since started a business here, that probably would have been in Illinois had they not chased me out. I will never go back. My sister in laws brother started a business with his wife a few years ago and they recently got chased out of Illinois to Arizona. Illinois wanted to raise taxes on their $250,000 business by over $20,000 a year. There was no way they could take a hit like that. They are loving Arizona and their higher standard of living they have there. Illinois may be making headlines with big companies like Sears, Jimmy Johns, Caterpillar, the Board of Trade and the like looking for the exits. But its all the little (and medium) sized business that are leaving every day that are killing Illinois (death by a thousand cuts!!). Illinois gives these businesss the middle finger every day and people are tired of it. I can think of thirty, yes thirty small businesses in my area alone that moved from Illinois. Some have since ...

The Illinois Manufacturers Association (IMA) is a trade association for manufacturing companies in Illinois. It bills itself as "the oldest and largest statewide manufacturing trade association in the United States." Based in Oak Brook, Illinois, and founded in 1893 by businessmen opposed to legislation limiting the working hours of women, IMA has more than 4000 member companies. The association lobbies on behalf of Illinois manufacturing interests and has its own political action committee and polling organization. IMAs President and CEO is Greg Baise. The IMA publishes a quarterly magazine, The Illinois Manufacturer. On September 29, 1893, Illinois manufacturers met at the Grand Pacific Hotel to organize in opposition to the Sweatshop Law of 1893 that prohibited child labor and mandated an eight-hour workday. The manufacturers formed the Illinois Manufacturers Protective Association "for the purpose of co-operating to test the constitutionality of a recent act of the Legislature of this ...

It also requires "no-smoking" signs, bans smoking within 15 feet (4.6 m) of openings in the targeted buildings, and requires at least 75% of rooms in each hotel to be non-smoking. It replaced the more limited Illinois Clean Indoor Air Act (410 ILCS 80). On January 11, 2007, Illinois State Senator John J. Cullerton introduced comprehensive legislation that would make Illinois workplaces and indoor public places smoke-free. Similar legislation was also introduced in the Illinois House of Representatives as House Bill 246 by Representative Karen Yarbrough. The American Lung Association and the American Cancer Society of Illinois joined more than 450 other organizations in applauding ...

CHICAGO -- A failed electrical insulator in a switchyard was to blame for the power failure that caused one of Exelon Energys nuclear reactors in northern Illinois to shut down, company officials said Tuesday.
The soil drench application of imidacloprid, sold as Merit and other brand names, should be applied to susceptible plants at least two months before adult beetles emerge. With emergence in southern Illinois occurring around the end of the third week of June, central Illinois in late June, and northern Illinois in early July, it is time to make these applications. Research on emerald ash borer and other pests has shown that application within two feet of the trunk is most effective. Because imidacloprid adsorbs onto dead organic matter, mulch or sod should be removed before a drench application is made. Otherwise, the insecticide will glom onto the dead organic matter and will not be picked up by the tree roots. Once the insecticide has soaked into the soil, the organic matter can be returned. Using a soil needle to inject the insecticide below the mulch or sod eliminates these steps.. Although Japanese beetle adults feed on a couple hundred species of trees and shrubs, those most at risk of ...
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Tricia Braid (309) 557-3257 SPRINGFIELD, Ill.-NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace visited with members of the Illinois General Assembly during Ag Week, sharing his experiences with ethanol as a racing fuel. Wallace joins NASCARs other drivers as they approach the milestone of 4 million miles raced using a fuel comprised of 15 percent ethanol. This year marks the third racing season that NASCARs three national series cars and trucks are running on Sunoco Green E-15. At the Capitol, Wallace was joined by members of the Illinois Corn Growers Association (ICGA) and the American Lung Association of Illinois, promoting ethanol and a bill that currently is being considered by the Senate Agriculture Committee. The Consumer Fuel Choice for Illinois bill would provide an incentive to introduce E-15 to the Illinois marketplace, putting it on a level playing field with E-10.
From the Illinois Green Party. SPRINGFIELD - The states Senate Elections Committee will hold a hearing today on House Bill 723, which if enacted would protect Illinois incumbents by effectively ending the practice of slating, which will almost certainly decrease the number of competitive elections in Illinois.. "Legislators in Illinois have an aversion to having someone run against them," said Dan Kairis, of Elgin, who himself was slated in 2008 to run for State Representative, 55th district. "Rather than accept competitive elections as a necessary function of a democratic system, here we have legislators who want to avoid facing any competition in the future.". Kairis and other Illinois Green Party members will be attending the hearing to voice opposition to the bill. The ILGP is urging its members and anyone else interested in bringing democratic reforms to Illinois to call their state senators and tell them to vote NO on HB 723.. To slate a candidate under current law, leaders of an ...

Governor Bruce Rauner of Illinois: Tell Friendship State, Gangwon Province, South Korea, That Were Opposed to the Torture and Consumption of Dogs and Cats. Governor Bruce Rauner of Illinois, these are the facts; now we urge you to join us in telling Friendship State, Gangwon Province, South Korea, that were opposed to the torture and consumption of dogs and cats.. State of Illinois has become Friendship State with Gangwon Province, South Korea. This relationship was no doubt formed in the spirit of friendship and for their mutual benefit, for business links and trade etc. And, while State of Illinois would have expected to learn about the differences in cultural practices of the Gangwon Province citizens, we feel certain that the Illinois authorities would have hesitated to form such a Friendship State relationship had they known about the aberrant and cruel practices routinely carried out in the dog and cat meat trades in Gangwon Province and all over South Korea. In the vast majority of cases, basement seepage is not significant from a structural point of view and can be controlled relatively inexpensively, as discussed above. Many older stone foundations have been seeping water for over a hundred years and are still in good condition. However, the presence of foundation cracks, damaged perimeter drainage tiles, a high water table (saturation around the home) or underground streams may call for more extreme corrective measures. These measures are used when chronic flooding occurs. Sealing foundation cracks can be performed several ways with the cost of repairs varying. The approach taken depends on the specific crack; however, the most successful approach is sealing from the outside (Cost $500 - $900). Urethane or epoxy injection repairs can be done from the interior on poured concrete walls only (cost $300 - $500 per crack). Many companies perform this type of work in northern Illinois and guarantee there work for life. Excavating, damp-proofing and ...
