1. Monoamine oxidase from rat and human liver was purified to homogeneity by the criterion of polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulphate. 2. The enzyme activity was extracted from mitochondrial preparations by Triton X-100. The enzyme was purified by (NH4)2SO4 fractionation followed by chromatography on DEAE-cellulose, Sepharose 6B, spheroidal hydroxyapatite, and finally chromatography on diazo-coupled tyramine-Sepharose. 3. Distinct differences occur in the chromatographic behaviour of the two enzymes on both DEAE-cellulose and spheroidal hydroxyapatite. 4. It is unlikely that the purification of the enzymes on tyramine-Sepharose is due to affinity chromatography and reasons for this are discussed. 5. Herein, we report the preparation and characterization of rhodium(0) nanoparticles supported on hydroxyapatite (Ca-10(OH)(2)(PO4)(6), HAP) and their catalytic use in the hydrolysis of hydrazine-borane, which attracts recent attention as promising hydrogen storage materials. Hydroxyapatite supported rhodium(0) nanoparticles were readily prepared by the hydrazine-borane reduction of rhodium(III)-exchanged hydroxyapatite in situ during the hydrolysis of hydrazine-borane at room temperature. Characterization of the resulting material by ICP-OES, TEM, SEM, EDX, XRD, XPS spectroscopies and N-2 adsorption-desorption technique, which shows the formation of rhodium(0) nanoparticles well dispersed on hydroxyapatite support. Different cooling rates from 2 to 14°C/min were utilized. The specimens were sintered at different temperatures of 1250-1350°C. The phase composition (by X-Ray Diffraction), microstructure (by Scanning Electron Microscopy), mechanical characteristics, and the porosity of sintered samples were assessed. The porosity of the sintered samples was in range of ~57-83%, and the compressive strength varied from ~1.7 to 15 MPa. Adsorption was inhibited at low pH in the presence of a chelating acid (citrate) but not by acetate. The inhibition was caused by chelation of the Lu ion rather than acidity or solubilisation of the solid matrix, which also occurred under these conditions. Adsorption was not inhibited by Ca2+. The presence of chelating acids is predicted to be more important than low pH alone in inhibiting distribution in bone mineral in vivo..
