The solvation effect of dimethyl formamide of the metallic complex formation was markedetly increased as compared to the reaction in toluene and cyclohexane. In case of chlorine containing carboxylic acid, the formation of organo chloro zinc complex of the salt was observed. The reaction of organo zinc complex with a carbonyl precursor gave the addition product together with a dimerized product. Especially the aldehyde species enhanced the formation of zinc complex. We present the characterization and application of a new gas chromatography time-of-flight mass spectrometry instrument (GC-TOFMS) for the quantitative analysis of halocarbons in air samples. The setup comprises three fundamental enhancements compared to our earlier work (Hoker et al., 2015): (1) full automation, (2) a mass resolving power R = m/Δm of the TOFMS (Tofwerk AG, Switzerland) increased up to 4000 and (3) a fully accessible data format of the mass spectrometric data. Automation in combination with the accessible data allowed an in-depth characterization of the instrument. Mass accuracy was found to be approximately 5 ppm in mean after automatic recalibration of the mass axis in each measurement. Selectively deuterated and methylated analogs of the nematocide 1,2-dibromo-3-chloropropane (DBCP) were compared to DBCP in causing acute renal damage in rats. All of the six deuterated analogs tested at 340 mumol/kg, including the perdeutero compound, failed to significantly alter the kidney necrosis observed at 48 hr compared to DBCP. Furthermore, when the perdeutero analog was administered at several doses (42.5, 85, 170, and 340 mumol/kg), it caused kidney damage that was not significantly different than that caused by an equivalent molar dose of nondeuterated DBCP. Of the five methylated analogs tested at 170 and 340 mumol/kg, only C3-methyl-DBCP and 1,2-dibromo-4-chlorobutane caused nephrotoxicity. The C2-methyl-, C1-dimethyl-, and C2-methyl-DBCP analogs failed to cause renal necrosis determined 48 hr after dosing. We derive meteoric water fluxes of ∼3680 km³yr−1 in Aug‐Sept 1997, and ∼2000 km³yr−1 in Aug-Sept 1998. The 1997 and 1998 data show a long‐term mean sea ice flux through Fram Strait around half the long‐term mean meteoric water flux. A 1991 δ18O section [Bauch et al., 1995] yielded a very similar ratio. Our 1998 section reveals fresh, low‐δ18O water on the East Greenland shelf whose comparatively large volume constitutes a potentially significant contribution to the total freshwater flux through Fram Strait.
