Higher education is considered as an essential part of the human development process of the country. In this context, the objective of this study is to explore the returns of higher education on human development indicators and as well as examine the impact of human development on higher education in Pakistan from the period of the 1984 to 2014. For estimation, correlation analysis and regression analysis has been used to investigate the association between Variables. The main purpose of the study is to identify the link between higher education and the three most important human development indicators, such as GDP, employment and life expectancy. To this end, the impact of the enrollment in higher education on human development has been analyzed. This research concluded that there exists a positive connection between human development and higher education. The higher level of GDP, life expectancy and employment accelerate the literacy rate and enrollment in higher education. In this study, we ...
There has been increasing concern about the impact of environmental compounds with hormone-like action on human development and reproductive health over the past decades. An alternative but neglected source of hormone action that may be considered in this connection is hormone residues in meat from husbandry animals treated with sex steroid hormones for growth promotion. Treatment of cattle with naturally occurring or synthetic sex hormones may enhance lean muscle growth and improve feed efficiency and is therefore a very cost effective procedure for cattle producers who have used it for decades in some Western countries, including the USA and Canada. The Joint Food and Agricultural Organisation/World Health Organisation (FAO/WHO) expert committee on food additives (JECFA) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) considered, in 1988, that the residues found in meat from treated animals were safe for the consumers. We have re-evaluated the JECFA conclusions regarding the safety of estradiol ...

Human Development Index (HDI) is used by the United Nations Organization to measure socioeconomic achievements of countries. We evaluated the association of HDI with rates and outcomes of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) for patients with acute leukemia. For the analysis of HSCT rates, all adults with acute leukemia (n = 16 403) treated in 30 European countries, between 2001 and 2005, were included. Association of HDI with the outcome was analyzed for 2015 patients with acute myeloid leukemia treated with myeloablative allotransplantation. Countries were classified according to HDI quintiles. Highly significant correlation was found for HDI and the total number of HSCT per population (R = 0.78; P | .001), as well as separately for sibling HSCT (R = 0.84; P | .001), unrelated HSCT (R = 0.66; P | .001), and autologous HSCT (R = 0.43; P = .02). The probabilities of leukemia-free survival for 5 consecutive groups of countries with increasing HDI were: 56%, 59%, 63%, 58%, and 68% (P = .01). In

Maternal treatment with estrogens (including diethylstilbestrol, DES, a synthetic nonsteroidal estrogen) for the maintenance of pregnancy has been implicated in a number of cases in which female fetuses were born with masculinized genitalia (Bongiovanni et al., 1959).. In other reports DES and conjugated equine estrogen (Premarin) (Grumbach and Ducharme, 1960; Grumbach et al., 1959; Jones and Wilkins, 1960; Wilkins, 1960; Wilkins et al., 1958) were administered in addition to progestins. Although the estrogen could not be credited with being the active agent, these substances certainly did not prevent fetal masculinization (Wilkins, 1960).. As Walker and Money (1972) noted in a review of a number of these cases: The affected children born to these mothers were as likely to be masculinized as were those children born to non-estrogen-treated mothers who took progesfins.. Hypospadias in males who were exposed to DES in utero has been reported by Kaplan (1959) and Yalom et al. (1973). It would ...

This book grew out of the need for a text that would cover the entire age span from conception to old age, devoting about the same amount of space to each period of life. In the past decade, interest has grown in psychological and physiological studies of maturity and old age. Research in this area has been vigorous. We have attempted to bring this material - still scattered throughout various journals - into line with the more extensive body of knowledge on behavioral development during childhood and adolescence and in this way to provide a continuous picture of human development and subsequent decline. For the sake of clarity Ave have used a longitudinal approach consistently, tracing an aspect of behavior from its genesis in the prenatal or early postnatal stages through adulthood to old age. Since we believe that no thorough understanding of human development can be achieved without a regard for phylogenetic changes as we ascend the scale from the lowest invertebrates to man, we have begun ...
The study of Health and Human Development is based on the premise that health and human development needs to be promoted at an individual level, and within group and community settings at national and international levels, to maximise global development potential. This unit covers physical, social, intellectual and emotional aspects of health and development beginning with the individual and progressing to the family, community and an international perspective.. The unit promotes the understanding that health and human development is determined by lifestyle, environment, heredity and access to health services, and that nutrition plays a major role in influencing both health status and human development. Topics covered include: the place of health and human development education in the curriculum of the senior secondary school with particular focus on the VCE; approaches to teaching and learning of health and human development; exploration of contemporary resources texts and resources; ...
Both theoretical foundations and empirical analysis demonstrate a direct but more intricate relationship between industrialization and human development. Human development is defined as the process of expanding individual freedoms to live long, healthy and creative lives; to advance towards other goals that they have reason to value; and to engage actively in shaping equitable and sustainable development on a shared planet. Fundamental to enlarging peoples choices is the building of human capacities - the range of things that people can do or be in life. Investing in people will enable growth and empower people, thus developing human capacities. Employment, either through self-employment or wage employment, is the primary means through which individual capabilities are used to earn income. This income can then be diversified into productive assets, including human capital. When average incomes increase, overall consumption increases, savings accelerate and investments in technological ...

The past half-century of growing prosperity and the progressive emergence of individuality have led more and more people to express interest in self-development rather than the exclusive pursuit of material and social achievement. Thus, usage of the terms personal growth, psychological growth and spiritual progress have become increasingly common, although there is little agreement regarding the actual meaning of these words.. In fact, human beings have always been growing personally or psychologically, even those who are almost entirely absorbed in struggling for material survival or aspiring for higher social achievements. But that growth has been most often subconscious, as a result of the trials and errors of life experience, rather than as a result of a conscious process of self-development. A conscious effort at developing our personalities requires a clear conception of what personality is and how it can be altered.. You dont have to set goals or strive to better yourself. Personal growth is a conscious choice, one that is entirely up to you. This web site aims to help those who have made or who are making that choice. There wouldnt be much point for a person outside that group to visit this web site at all. For such people I would recommend this site instead, which is the next logical step for those who are done growing and ready for eternal peace.. OK, so that was my ornery side expressing itself a bit… Ill restate the issue: Is the process of striving to better ourselves in conflict with attaining inner peace?. My answer: Not at all. Both can indeed be found on the same path. One term for this state of being is called living in dharma. When you are in this state, you have found your purpose in life and are living it consciously.. Creating an intention for your future to be different or better in some way than your past doesnt automatically conflict with being in a state of inner peace. What causes a ...

The emphasis of the course will be on providing students with a foundation for understanding the relationship between biological factors and the brain across the life span, as illustrated by neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders. These disorders will be discussed in the context of life-span development and compared to normal childhood development and normal aging. Students will become familiar with the clinical features of each disorder and the genetic, molecular and neural causes and consequences. Similarities and differences between disorders will be emphasised with a special focus on vulnerable brain systems and molecular pathways. Students will build on knowledge gained in their second year, learning how each disorder impacts cognition, behaviour, neural structures and molecular and intracellular systems. Students will read relevant scientific articles and become familiar not only with the genetic, molecular and neuroscientific tools used to study these disorders but also ...

There is one not so secret about those people who achieve great things. They set and commit to goals. The most successful achievers commit to four types of goals (personal growth, healthy lifestyle, networking, and helping others).. Personal growth goals push you towards your lifes purpose and/or vocational excellence.. Healthy lifestyle goals help you maintain the core physical, psychological, and spiritual strength necessary to sustain you through difficult times.. Networking goals allow you to leverage the relationships with others to grow as a person and open further possibilities.. Finally, Servant goals remind you that helping others is ultimately the most important accomplishment.. With these objectives in mind, consider the fifteen goals for 2015. They may not all be applicable to you. But, choose the ones that are relevant.. If you cannot commit to all of them, then choose at least two personal growth and healthy lifestyle goals and one networking and servant goal.. ...

3) The first one I will list is the easiest, in my opinion: at the time of conception. Because we understand human development very well, (and any sexual reproduction actually, since its all the same), we know that the result is a combination of the female egg, which has half the number of chromosomes of a full human, with the male spermatozoid, which also has half the number of chromosomes. Together, they form a random combination, which is almost certainly unique because of the statistical improbability of combining the exact same genes twice, and the small mutations that can happen during cell division. This process can be triggered naturally, or artificially in a laboratory, or even just theoretically: take a spermatozoid from any male, take an egg from any woman, and combine their genetic code to get an idea of a new potential human being. In the latter case, that human would never exist since its just a thought experiment, while in the first 2 it could lead to a human, if the initial ...

In societies with strong power elites, the powerholders power is dependent on the co-operation, acquiescence, and tacit support of the great majority of common citizens. ~~ Bill Moyer. Reason #8: Interest in Personal Growth, Consciousness Expansion on the Rise. As people around the world awaken to the previously hidden shadow side of our world, they are also opening more to new ways of looking at life and the inspiring light side of our world. Ever increasing numbers are seeing that life is not all about sex, money, and consumerism, and that we can find more joy and satisfaction through exploring deeper into personal growth and into the role of consciousness in our lives and in human development.. Mainstream scientists are now studying various aspects of consciousness and finding that we have much more creative power in our lives than was once believed. Dr. Bruce Liptons pioneering cell biology research suggests that, contrary to popular belief, genes are not the primary regulators of life. ...

Study Purpose: Project on Human Development in Chicago Neighborhoods. The Project on Human Development in Chicago Neighborhoods (PHDCN) was a large-scale, interdisciplinary study of how families, schools, and neighborhoods affect child and adolescent development. It was designed to advance the understanding of the developmental pathways of both positive and negative human social behaviors. In particular, the project examined the causes and pathways of juvenile delinquency, adult crime, substance abuse, and violence. At the same time, the project provided a detailed look at the environments in which these social behaviors took place by collecting substantial amounts of data about urban Chicago, including its people, institutions, and resources.. Longitudinal Cohort Study. One component of the PHDCN was the Longitudinal Cohort Study, which was a series of coordinated longitudinal studies that followed over 6,000 randomly selected children, adolescents, and young adults, and their primary ...

Why? What happened that turned her traumatic illness into a time of gratitude and personal growth?. Shipwreck and Resilience. Ive been very interested in resilience, what happens when people experience a life shipwreck. Theologian Richard Niebuhr speaks of shipwreck as the coming apart of what has served as shelter and protection and has held and carried one where one wanted to go-the collapse of a structure that once promised trustworthiness. On book tours, I often speak about life shipwrecks for Pilgrimage through Loss. Whether talking about the loss of a loved one, a career collapse, a broken marriage, a health crisis, a bankruptcy…any life event that shatters our assumptions that what seemed trustworthy no longer exists, I am fortunate to hear stories from men and women about what gave them new resilience and hope.. Secretin, a hormone that some parents claim possesses almost magical properties as a treatment for autism, will be scientifically tested in large-scale trials starting later this month in Seattle and Denver.. Concurrent trials, funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), will be conducted at the University of Washingtons Center on Human Development and Disability (CHDD) and at the University of Colorados Health Sciences Center. Fifty-one children between ages 3 and 12 and diagnosed with autism will be tested at each site.. Secretin is a naturally occurring human hormone produced in the small intestine that helps control digestion and is used in diagnosing gastrointestinal problems. Over the past six months secretin has been the focus of national media attention with some parents of autistic children saying hormone injections have resulted in improvements in their eye contact, alertness and use of language. It may seem like a silly question. And of course Im not proposing that we stock schools with bears and lions - that would probably keep students away. Nor am I suggesting that saving lions will solve the undersupply of education in developing countries. Rather, I am making a broader point about the links between different parts of ecosystems, which often have an indirect but underappreciated bearing on human development. Habitat conversion and fragmentation, depletion of prey, and hunting have in many parts of the world reduced the ranges of wolves, lions, bears, tigers, sea otters, and other large carnivores to less than half of their original range. When their numbers nosedive, we not only lose iconic species. Ecosystems also lose the keystone species that eat smaller carnivores and herbivores. When fewer animals down the food chain get eaten, ecosystems change - and those changes affect us humans too. A recent article in Science Magazine casts a systematic light on the issue, and its lessons are

Description - Imagine the excitement of seeing this incredible early period of human development for the first time. Now consider that much of our initial understanding of human development is based upon study of historic embryo collections. You can now look at these historic images of the first 8 weeks after fertilisation and explore for yourself the changes that occur in human development during this key period. This current book is designed as an atlas of the Carnegie embryo stages with some brief notes and additional information covering the first 8 weeks of development. These images are from from the beginning of last century and are one of the earliest documented series of human embryos collected for basic research and medical education on development. I hope you enjoy learning about the amazing early events that begin to make and shape us. This is the second book in a series of educational releases from UNSW Embryology ...
The internal conflict in Guinea Bissau, which broke out in June 1998 and lasted 11 months, caused infrastructure destruction, the collapse of administrative structures and the disintegration of the social fabric. It is ranked 175 out of 177 countries according to the Human Development Index(HDI) Report in 2007/2008.. Poverty, unemployment and social and economic problems aggravated by the crisis are causing nutritional problems among the most vulnerable population. Cereal production has decreased due to asset destruction, lack of seeds and fertilizers, and rice field (dykes and irrigation systems) deterioration or destruction.. The quality of roads, already poor before the crisis, has worsened, disrupting food marketing and availability in the country. Educational indicators, very low even before the crisis (rate of school enrolment 45 percent, drop out rate up to 66 percent, illiteracy rate among men 59 percent and among women 85 percent) worsened dramatically during the crisis. Poverty prevents ...
The target villages usually have a nurse that is able to assist with child birth, however, the nurse has limited training, no access to running water and no drugs.. The high mortality rate for children under the age of five is of particular concern. Statistics published by the UN in its annual Human Development Index (HDI) report indicate that the mortality rate for children in Mali under the age of five is approximately one in five.. Our onsite investigation indicates that malaria and diarrhea appear to be the main causes of death. During pregnancy, malaria affects the health of both the infant and the mother, resulting in maternal anaemia and low birth weight.. The lack of drugs and basic training for the nurse means the nurse is often unable to treat simple injuries that occur in the field. These simple injuries prevent people from assisting their families with their daily activities and may deteriorate into more serious illnesses.. ADP Solution. Training for nurse ...

The Human Development Index of UNDP, the United Nations Development Programme, which determines prosperity on the basis of health, education and income, ranks Ethiopia 174th out of 187 (http://hdr.undp.org). Average life expectancy is just over 64 years of age and child mortality per number of live births is 6.4%. Despite progress in healthcare, its provision - particularly in rural areas - remains inadequate. Many people suffer from frequent bouts of diarrhoea caused by the parlous state of the sanitary conditions and for children this is the main cause of death (http://liportal.giz.de/). Only 42% of the countrys population has access to clean water and only 23% to sanitary facilities (http://hdr.undp.org). In addition, diseases such as malaria, hepatitis, meningitis, schistosomiasis and AIDS are widespread, although the percentage of HIV infections is considerably lower than in other East African countries such as Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. This paper presents the findings of an expert working group of researchers from East Asian countries. The group was tasked with developing a theoretically sound and practically implementable methodology for assessing the sustainability of biomass utilisation in East Asian countries based on the needs and potential of biomass resources in this region. Building on six years of research conducted between 2007 and 2013, the working group formulated a set of main and secondary indicators for biomass utilisation under three pillars of sustainability. For the environmental pillar, the main indicator was life cycle greenhouse gas emissions and secondary indicators were water consumption and soil quality. For the economic pillar, the main indicator was total value added and secondary indicators were net profit, productivity, and net energy balance. For the social pillar, the main indicators were employment generation and access to modern energy, and the secondary indicator was the human development index. The
Listening to the poor deepens the wisdom of nations. We must look at things from the perspective of those who are directly affected, advises Mahbub ul Haq, founder of the Human Development Index. On this basis, UNDP, with the help of TECHO, conducted fieldwork in 20 poor communities in El Salvador and recently published its findings in the report Poverty in El Salvador from the Perspective of its Protagonists (link in Spanish). Contrary to what public opinion polls reveal, when poorer communities themselves were asked to identify the countrys main problem, their response was the poverty in which they live. When asked what living in poverty meant to them, most people agreed on three points: Look at what we eat, said a woman, referring to her diet, which consists of salt, tortillas, beans and rice. She noted that her family was often unable to eat three times a day and had to skip meals. When things become serious, even if I cant eat, I try to make sure that at least my children can. ...
Youve spent your hard earned money on a high-end product, so naturally, you want to make sure youre seeing results. And the only way to measure that is to pay attention. When youre wearing pheromones and youre out in the trenches, youre hyper-aware of how people respond to your words and actions.. If you notice better than usual results, you make a quick mental note of it and affirm that with or without the product, this is how people should normally behave towards you. Over time, your affirmations will instill the overall vibe of the pheromone youre using and youll no longer need it.. These small, deliberate actions wont transform your life overnight but they do accumulate.. I wasnt always as outgoing, charismatic, or confident as I am now, and much of my success in life wouldnt have been possible if pheromones hadnt helped me get the ball rolling.. When youre stuck in a rut, having a plan ensures you dont wallow in your problems for too long, and sometimes all we need is a ...

Whilst working on my Movie Trailer which is a synopsis of my autobiography (DMP), It has taken about 10 rewrites…….getting it refined and to fit on a 3×5 index card. Initially I tried writing smaller……LOL……can you imagine, trying to squeeze about 400 words onto a 3×5 card!! Off course that did not work. Everything seemed important to me and I wanted to add it all, I did not want to miss out on anything. Remember, this was a summary of my DMP and the information has to be clear and concise! This is my new blueprint is going to be taken into my subconscious. So, I included what I want, the date I want it and how I feel once achieved. At the end of each emotion on my movie trailer, I have linked a colour and shape of my PPN. By doing what seems to be childs play, the results have been such a big shift. For instance, previously reading my DMP I just saw a blue rectangle and thought of Liberty……….yeah that what was good, but it ended there.. I recall the lesson we had a couple of ...
