Objectives The Cohen-Mansfield Agitation Inventory (CMAI; (Cohen-Mansfield and Kerin, 1986)) is a well-known tool for assessing agitated behaviours in people with dementia who reside in long-term care. No studies have evaluated the psychometric qualities and factor structure of the CMAI in acute general hospitals, a setting where people with demand may become agitated. Method Longitudinal study investigating pain, agitation and behavioural problems in 230 people with dementia admitted to acute general hospitals in 2011-2012. Cohen-Mansfield Agitation Inventory was completed as part of a battery of assessments including PAINAD to measure pain. The typical form with asymmetrical septal hypertrophy and a gradient was found in only one third of patients, serious ventricular arrhythmias were probably no more common than in the general population, and no deaths occurred during a relatively short follow up (mean 3.1 years). Aim: To assess the magnitude of exposure to Mycobacterium tuberculosis at autopsy in a large general hospital setting, in a country with low incidence.. Dr. Suzanne M. de la Monte, M.D., M.P.H. is Professor of Neuropathology, Neurology, and Neurosurgery at the Rhode Island Hospital and the Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Providence, RI. She received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., M.D. from the Weill College of Medicine at Cornell University, and masters in public health (M.P.H.) from the Blumberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD. Dr. de la Monte completed her residency in Anatomical Pathology and fellowship in Pediatric Pathology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, and a fellowship in Neuropathology at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Introduction NICE Nutrition Support In Adults (2006) recommends that all Trusts should have a multidisciplinary Nutrition Support Team (NST). Austin & Stroud (2007) suggest its implementation can improve parenteral nutrition (PN) services and potentially reduce PN usage by up to 25%. At Croydon University Hospital (CUH), a multidisciplinary NST was set up in October 2010, consisting of a Consultant Chemical Pathologist, Consultant Gastroenterologist, dietians and pharmacists. The 2009/2010 swine origin influenza virus (H1N1) pandemic created a national helpline, vaccination program and advertising campaign that cost many millions of pounds. There were a number of deaths in young pregnant people and those with existing respiratory morbidity. In contrast, in the post pandemic we have seen budgetary cuts, no advertising campaign and a reluctance to give vaccination to anyone but clearly defined groups. Our experience during the December 2010 holiday period suggests this was ill advised.. We analysed all admissions with H1N1 in December 2010-January 2011. In total we had 63 cases in a take that has a mean of 27 (SEM ±1.97) patients per day. Over 70% of patients presented between 30th December and 2nd January. These patients were young (mean age 47 (SEM 1.81)), had an increased length of stay (mean LOS 6.2 days (SEM 1.54)) and were from low risk populations (35/63 (56%) had no co-morbidities or risk factors).
