Home healthcare device market is expected to witness lucrative growth over the forecast period owing to the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases such as diabetes, respiratory diseases and cardiac disorders. Home healthcare devices are wide range of medical equipment, devices and drugs that are generally used in home for treating diseases and disorders by non-professional care givers such as family members or patient itself. Improvement in technology has made the applications of medical devices simpler and mobile which is expected to drive the home healthcare devices market over the forecast period.. Some other factors which have triggered the demand for these devices are increasing demand for minimal invasive devices, cost effectiveness in treatment of diseases at home rather than visiting hospitals & healthcare institutes, and acceptance of more home healthcare devices globally. The third form of home-based rehabilitation is providing home programs for people with stroke, so they may at least maintain, if not augment, gains made during formal rehabilitation and to reduce cardiovascular risk profile. American Heart Association recommend28 that people with stroke perform aerobic exercises 3 to 7 days per week, as well as strengthening, flexibility, and neuromuscular exercise 2 to 3 days a week, for their life time. Clearly institutionalizing this ongoing intervention is not feasible, and home-based programs, if successful, would be a solution.. Olney et al29 tested this by comparing the outcomes achieved by 2 groups of people with chronic stroke, 1 with 10 weeks of supervised training (n=38) and 1 group with 1 week of supervised training to learn the program followed by 9 weeks of unsupervised training carried out at home (n=36). Both groups made equally modest gains on indicators of motor impairment (gait speed, ,6 minutes; muscle strength) and cardiovascular risk ...

Vhi Healthcare today announced that Vhi HomeCare - its hospital-in-the-home service - is set to achieve net savings of €11.7 million in the last two years by treating patients at home for services they would otherwise have had to occupy a hospital bed to receive. Since 2011, data from the health insurer shows that over 5,900 bed nights (or 61%) were freed up in Public hospitals alone. Vhi Healthcare added that the savings were achieved by selecting suitable patients from a limited area in Leinster and that further significant savings could be made by extending the area covered by the Vhi HomeCare scheme. The area from which Vhi Healthcare customers were selected extended from as far north as Ardee in Co Louth, to as far west as Kells in Co Meath and Newbridge in Co Kildare, and as far south as Greystones in Co Wicklow.. Since launching its own home care service in 2010, over 2,000 Vhi Healthcare customers have been treated in their home rather than in hospital. This equates to a saving of ...
The hypothesis that the structure home-based unsupervised PR programme would improve self-reported dyspnoea to a similar degree to conventional centre-based PR remains inconclusive. This is in line with the CONSORT recommendations20 for reporting non-inferiority trials, as the 95% CI of the difference in change between the home-based and centre-based PR groups breached the MCID of 0.5 units. However, no statistically significant difference was detected at 7 weeks between home-based and centre-based PR groups for the primary outcome of dyspnoea. Interestingly, the proportion of participants achieving the MCID was also similar in each group.. There have been several home-based PR programmes reported that have deployed similar outcome measures to the current study.3 24 A key difference in this study is that it is a shorter intervention than many others, some of which have extended to 2 years of supervision and/or support.25 The duration of the supported phase of the intervention was comparable to ...
CMS recommends that HHAs screen patients for COVID-19. As part of ongoing care, HHAs should monitor the health status of all individuals within a home-care setting (including but not limited to patients, family members, visitors, staff, etc.) for signs or symptoms of COVID-19. To identify patients who may be at risk, CMS recommends that HHAs ask each patient the following questions immediately before or upon arrival at the patients home: (i) whether the patient has engaged in any international travel within the past 14 days to countries with sustained community transmission of COVID-19 (see updated list); (ii) whether the patient has experienced any signs or symptoms of COVID-19, including but not limited to fever, cough and sore throat; (iii) whether the patient has had contact with someone with or under investigation for COVID-19 within the past 14 days; (iv) whether the patient has a respiratory illness; and (v) whether the patient resides in an area where community transmission is ...
We developed an innovative home-based HIV self-testing (HIVST) service that included mailing of a free HIVST kit, and providing online real-time instructions and pre-test/post-test counseling (HIVST-OIC). The present parallel-group and non-blinded randomized controlled trial was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of promoting HIVST-OIC in increasing HIV testing rate among 430 men who have sex with men (MSM), with access to online live-chat applications in Hong Kong. At month 6, as compared to the control group, the intervention group reported significantly higher prevalence of HIV testing of any type (89.8 vs. 50.7%; relative risk (RR): 1.77; p < 0.001). Among those who have taken up any HIV testing in the last six months, significant between-group difference was found in multiple male sex partnerships (34.2 vs. 47.7%, RR: 0.72; p = 0.021). HIVST-OIC has a strong potential in increasing prevalence of HIV testing and reducing sexual risk behaviors. Implementation research is warranted. ...

Home Treatment for acute psychiatric illness was compared to conventional hospitalisation in a design which focused on completed episodes of either exclusive alternative. The evaluation was conducted with the West Birmingham Home Treatment Team and All Saints Hospital, Birmingham. Forty cases in each group were examined with closely equivalent sociodemographic features and previous psychiatric history. The length of treatment, clinical outcome, identification and targeting of needs, readmission profile and client satisfaction were compared. The study focused on presentations involving mainly a diagnosis of severe mental illness. Home Treatment was significantly shorter and involved wider targeting of identified needs. There was no significant difference in terms of clinical outcome. Home Treatment and avoidance of admission were preferred by patients. The determinants of satisfaction with acute care in both settings was explored qualitatively. Significant design and sampling problems limit the ...

Priceless program that gives kids with medical complexities rare chance for socializing and parents much-needed break at risk of ending because of funding woes.. WireService.ca Media Release (06/05/2017) TORONTO, ON - A unique program to give kids with complex medical needs a rare chance to hang out and play together may have taken its last breath this past weekend if a long-term funder cant be found. The six-week Playdate Program was developed by VHA Home HealthCare (VHA), a not-for-profit organization, and runs out of Scarborough Village Public School. It was created out of a noticeable gap in the system identified by parental caregivers who felt their kids-who have complex medical needs-had few, if any chances to play with other children outside of school because of safety concerns.. Input from our client and family partners highlighted the need for a play program that gives parents a break, has the medical supervision in place to give moms and dads peace of mind that their kids will be ...

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the name for a collection of lung diseases usually caused by smoking. When symptoms become particularly bad this is called an exacerbation. Some exacerbations of COPD can be very severe and patients need support from breathing machines (ventilators) in addition to oxygen therapy. Previous studies have examined whether the use of a ventilator at home, termed home mechanical ventilation, could help improve peoples breathing and reduce the need for readmission to hospital, but these studied have not been able to demonstrate a benefit. This is thought to be due to the poor design of the studies rather than failure of the ventilator itself. This study is a UK-wide study to investigate if home mechanical ventilation in addition to home oxygen therapy is better than home oxygen therapy on its own ...
A group of organizations representing home oxygen therapy patients, physicians, home oxygen providers, and oxygen system manufacturers issued a statement opposing provisions in the Presidents proposed 2008 budget that would threaten the home oxygen therapy benefit in Medicare. The group, which includes the American Association for Homecare, the National Association for Medical Direction of Respiratory Care, and National Home Oxygen Patients Association, strongly objected to a proposal in the budget that would force Medicare patients to assume the burden of owning and managing medical oxygen equipment in their homes after only 13 months of use. Currently, funding is capped at 36 months. Concerns over the proposed cuts are compounded by the fact that the Medicare home oxygen benefit is still experiencing the impact of several years of cuts enacted by Congress as part of the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003 and the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005. The statement says, We believe the proposed change in

The federal government released on Thursday a new five-star rating system for home health agencies, hoping to bring clarity to a fast-growing but fragmented corner of the medical industry where its often difficult to distinguish good from bad.. Medicare applied the new quality measure to more than 9,000 agencies based on how quickly visits began and how often patients improved while under their care. Nearly half received average scores, with the government sparingly doling out top and bottom ratings.. The star ratings come as home health agencies play an increasingly important role in caring for the elderly. Last year 3.4 million Medicare beneficiaries received home health services, with nurses, aides, and physical and occupational therapists treating them in the home. Medicare spends about $18 billion on the home health benefit, which provides skilled services that must be authorized by a doctor, not housekeeping care that some elderly pay for privately.. For both the government and patients, ...
Home health agencies. More than 12 million individuals receive care from more than 33,000 providers in home health care in the U.S. today. Some home health care agencies are Medicare-certified (which means they have met federal minimum requirements). Home health agencies may offer a wide range of services, including doctor care, or may just offer a few services, such as basic nursing care. Most home health agencies assemble a care team for the patient based on his or her needs. Because home health agencies are responsible for their personnel, they assume liability for all care. Home health agencies are usually available 24 hours a day, seven days a week ...

Receiving proper, purposeful and needs-oriented training is important to healthcare professionals expected to undertake the new ways of working implied by the implementation of telecare. This is in contrast to the informal learning that a majority of healthcare professionals report in regards to telecare practice [35]. The importance of training was largely expressed in terms of its role in creating the necessary confidence to master new skills and foster the attitudes necessary to provide care at a distance and successfully adopt telecare practice [3, 12, 17, 30, 31]. Carter, Horrigan and Hudyma [23] note similar findings, in that telecare training was regarded as important in fostering practitioner confidence and a positive attitude towards the use of telecare in the delivery of healthcare services. As such, staff training should emphasise a positive view of telecare as a way of enabling and supporting, as opposed to replacing, existing professional competencies and care processes [14, ...

This study focused on the validity of the government policy to contain home help services and encourage day care services. We limited our subjects to those who had actually started using services after the implementation of the reform and to those in the lightest eligibility Level 1. Even though they were in the lightest level, over half were 80 and over. This could be the main reason why 27.8% had declined one and a half year later. The proportion of decline from IADL disability only to ADL disability was about 10 to 15% among those 75 and over [20-24].. Similar to previous studies, we found that people who had no primary caregiver, or whose primary caregiver came from outside the household, were more likely to choose home help, while those whose primary caregiver lived in the same household were more likely to go to day care [25, 26]. However, even after controlling for these variables, home help service users were found to have a lower risk of functional decline than day care service users. ...

Home Care. Regulated by the New York State Department of Health (DOH), home care consists of nursing, therapy or personal care services provided in an individuals home. Different categories of home care include licensed home care services agencies (LHCSAs), certified home health agencies (CHHAs) and Long Term Home Health Care Programs (LTHHCPs).
