It will also explore whether immune system damage caused by HIV can be repaired after new virus replication is stopped with treatment.. Previous reports point to the potential advantage of initiating treatment very early, before seroconversion, to preserve or enhance HIV-specific T cell responses. It has been shown that some individuals who were treated early were able to control HIV replication, at least transiently, after HAART was interrupted.
