Project MUSE - History of Concepts and the Historiography of the Independence of Brazil: A Preliminary Diagnosis
Abstract Abstract:. The aim of this article is to discuss the history of the Independence of Brazil by highlighting the historiographical approaches from the so-called History of Concepts, which in the current Brazilian historiography are related to a German intellectual branch, but often articulated to other approaches that can be referred to as intellectual history, history of languages and of political discourses. It offers a brief overview of the historiography of Independence in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, through to the diagnosis of their basic lineages, then it discusses current conceptual approaches. The conclusion indicates five points to contribute to a better understanding of the Independence of Brazil.. ...

Historiography of the British Empire - Wikipedia
The historiography of the British Empire refers to the studies, sources, critical methods and interpretations used by scholars to develop a history of Britains empire. Historians and their ideas are the focus here; specific lands and historical dates and episodes are covered in the article on the British Empire. Scholars have long studied the Empire, looking at the causes for its formation, its relations to the French and other empires, and the kinds of people who became imperialists or anti-imperialists, together with their mindsets. The history of the breakdown of the Empire has attracted scholars of the histories of the United States (which broke away in 1776), India (independent in 1947), and the African colonies (independent in the 1960s). John Darwin (2013) identifies four imperial goals: colonizing, civilizing, converting, and commerce. Historians have approached imperial history from numerous angles over the last century. In recent decades scholars have expanded the range of topics into ...

Howe, Müller, and Stonemans Ancient Historiography on War and Empire is the product of a 2013 conference on Greek history and historiography and includes chapters that form sections devoted to Classical Greece and Achaemenid Persia, Macedon, Alexander and the Diadochoi, and the Second Sophistic. Presumably these divisions indicate the various conference panels from which the papers had their genesis. As with all edited volumes of such breadth, the individual contributions present a wide variety of specific topics and approaches. The golden thread theoretically running through all of them is that they all variously explore the ways in which the ancient authors contemporary contexts and the perceived needs and desires of their audiences affected their presentation of history. This was serious business. As Howe notes in his foreword, the ancient historians tendencies towards either propaganda or didacticism were impelled by war and its uncompromising consequences… as they sought to shape ...

AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORIOGRAPHY AND THE WORKS OF BENJAMIN QUARLES.
Benjamin Quarles (1904-96) must be seen as a progressive historian if only because he believed that the acquisition of knowledge would lead to an improvement in the human condition. He had anoptimistic view of history that on the surface emphasized the importance of objectivity in seeking the truth. However, his persistent efforts to demonstrate the centrality of blacks in buildingAmerican civilization, and his criticism of those who did not share his belief in the mission of the United States in the world, show he was a conceptual historian with a clear agenda ...
Historiography in the Maghrib in the 19th and Early 20th Century - Oxford Research Encyclopedia of African History
The Maghrebi tradition of historical literary production extends back to the early centuries of Islamic expansion and conquest in North Africa and comprises a rich corpus including dynastic chronicles (tarikh), biographies (tarajim), and hagiographies (manaqib/rijjal), and, since the 20th century, positivist national histories as well. While this tradition had evolved since its inception, 19th- and 20th-century Maghrebi historical production both influenced and was influenced by the extension of European military, economic, and political power into the Maghreb. Grappling with the legacies of colonialism, nationalism, and pan-Arabism, among others, Maghrebi historians continue to sow the rich terrain of historical literary production in the postcolonial period by absorbing, reacting to, and building upon new trends in the historical profession.

WIP: War In Parliament | CLARIN-NL
In the near future we hope to broaden our research questions to establish and analyze patterns and trends, and to answer questions how WWII discourses have evolved over a longer period of time. In this respect we may contribute to Dutch historiography on WWII. Dutch historiography on the aftermath of WWII shows that the persecution of Jews comes more and more to the fore in national discourse towards the end of the 1960s perverting the old paradigm of the Netherlands as a country of strong resistance to the German occupation. Is this paradigm change reflected in the parliamentary debates?. Historical research often focuses on well known debates and events. For example when historians analyze the ways in which references to WWII are used by politicians in the Netherlands they will more or less automatically turn to debates on the Drie van Breda (1972) or the fall of Willem Aantjes (1978). This method risks overlooking less well known debates in which references to WWII were used to support ...
The (inceasingly tedious) historiography of Arnhem

Chinese historiography - Wikipedia
From the beginning of Communist rule in 1949 until the 1980s, Chinese historical scholarship focused largely on peasant life interpreted via the officially sanctioned Marxist theory of class struggle. A significant undertaking in the middle of the Cultural Revolution was a serial printing of the official dynastic histories by the China Bookstore. The mainland series was printed in simplified Chinese characters, with only brief, mainly textual notes at the end of chapters and the usual, complex scholarly commentaries omitted, so as to allow the histories to be more readable by ordinary people. From the time of Deng Xiaoping on, there has been a drift towards a Marxist-inspired nationalist perspective, and consideration of Chinas contemporary international status has become of paramount importance in historical studies. The current focus tends to be on specifics of civilization in ancient China, and the general paradigm of how China has responded to the dual challenges of interactions with the ...

This is no longer the case. Instead, Early American historiography has suffered from a loss of coherent definition as competing manifestos demand this or that reordering of the subject to combine time periods and geographical areas in ways that would have previously seemed anomalous. Along the way, it has become a commonplace to announce that the history of America is best accounted for in America itself in a three-way melee between settlers, the indigenous populations, and the forcibly transported African slaves and their creole descendants. Our collection recognizes the value of the historiographic work done under this new dispensation in the last two decades ...
Perspectives for the History of Life Sciences - New themes, new sources, new approaches | H-Soz-Kult. Kommunikation und...
There are themes in the biological and biomedical sciences that, for good reasons, play a disproportionate role in the historiography, such as evolutionary theory, genetics, molecular biology or medical bacteriology. In recent years, the history of the life-sciences has widened its scope and looked beyond these undoubtedly important developments. And yet, there are still many areas in the biological sciences and many aspects of medicine that have not received the attention they deserve, such as, to name only a few, plant physiology, agricultural sciences, microbiology, research in metabolism, or the dissemination of biological technologies. More recent developments in the life sciences, those from the 1970s and 80s, have hardly been studied at all. The exploration of these, in particular, would greatly benefit from a closer connection between historiographies of the biological sciences, medicine and technology - as well as from an enhanced dialogue with philosophical and social studies of ...

Sport, Bodily Culture and Classical Antiquity in Modern Greece. Sport in the global society: historical perspectives - Bryn...
Table of Contents This book, a reproduction of the International Journal of the History of Sport vol. 27 issue 12, consists of five essays bracketed by a prologue and an epilogue all of which address the importance of the legacy of the classical past on sports culture in modern Greece. The essays focus on a range of topics: historiography, female bodily culture and public rituals associated with physical exercise and sporting events. Overall, the greater emphasis is much less on modern Greek sports and much more on the classical legacy. Zinon Papakonstantinou, one of the two co-editors, discusses in his introduction the ways the classical past and the assumption of continuity between ancient and modern Greece have shaped Greek society. His essay sets the scene for those that follow. All of these confirm the significance of the classical legacy in the modern era. This is certainly the case in Christina Koulouris contribution on the place of sports in Greek national historiography from the ...

Thank you for this article! When taking a WWII history class a few years ago I wrote a term paper on The Wild Blue by Steven Ambrose. I had hoped his history of B-24 operations in Italy and North Africa would shed some light on an incredible aircraft manned by incredible men fighting against incredible odds. Instead it turned out to be an ode to George McGovern who only had a couple of missions near the end of the war, and those were considered milk runs In my paper I lambasted Ambrose for stretching 1 chapter of material into a novel length book (My professor informed me when I handed him my paper that he was a personal friend of Ambrose, but I got an A+ because my Prof agreed it was Ambrose worst effort ...

Current scholarship is in need of a sensitive re-examination of the recent history of rural drama in Tamil Nadu (India) to take into account the richness, aliveness, and interaction of rural, popular performance forms through intricate processes of the interweaving of dramatic material and media, and to acknowledge the contribution and opinions of its local stakeholders. Looking in particular at three distinct but interlinked rural performance forms - Kattaikkuttu, the now defunct rural Devadasi tradition, and the Natakam theatre - I hope to build an alternative, more nuanced and sensitive historiography of the popular stage in North Tamil Nadu in order to counteract the existing, simplified image of a deteriorated rural stage and the validation of these forms as crude, rude and incompatible with Indias projected image of modernity. Such an alternative historiography needs to look closely at the contribution of rural female performers (as well as the performance and performers of female roles), ...

Grand inquisition or historiography: Paul Bogdanors old-new take on the Kasztner saga | Paul Sanders | The Blogs | The Times...
Kasztner can be portrayed in a particularly negative light depending on how one chooses to frame the issue. The assumption that the Germans were on their last legs in spring 1944, and that their action was driven by a realization that they were running out of time, is as questionable as the idea that they had arrived with a master plan for the destruction of the Hungarian Jews. The reality is that after having liberated Ukraine up to the Dniester in spring 1944, the Soviets shifted their emphasis to the North, in preparation of the summer offensive (operation Bagration), and the front stabilized in the Southern sector for several months. In addition, the Western Allies had not yet landed in Normandy, and their amphibious operation had a 50-50 chance of failing or succeeding. The implication of this is that the idea, according to which some Germans may have sought a way of negotiating themselves out of their strategic predicament, and were willing to make a certain number of limited concessions, ...

What is the case for the historical Jesus? Lets talk about it on Deeper Waters.. Since Ive already looked at the words I believe, theres no need to reinvent the wheel here. So lets move on to the next line and notice that it says that I believe in Jesus.. At the bare minimum, lets start with Jesus. What is the case that there was a historical Jesus?. Quite good actually.. You see, a lot of Christians dont take the time to look for this evidence. A lot of atheists dont either, or just disregard whatever evidence is presented because it doesnt reach a bar that they arbitrarily set. Many dont bother to take the time to see how the ancient world worked, to which I have some excellent resources on that here, here, and here.. Ancient historiography is not modern historiography. Annie Kawagley, Mary Phillip and Bertha Beaver are interviewed on November 18, 2004 by William Schneider, Karen Brewster, Louann Rank, and Shawna Williams along with 7th grade students Minnie Kashatok and Lott Egoak at the Akiak School Library in Akiak, Alaska. In this interview, Annie, Mary and Bertha talk about womens roles in Yupik life, the subsistence lifestyle at seasonal camps and preparing fish and other traditional foods, raising a family, following traditional values, and working jobs outside of the home. Specifically, Annie discusses her work at the orphanage in Kwethluk, Alaska and as a health aide in Akiak; Mary shares some of her health aide experiences, delivering babies, and the use of traditional medicine; and Bertha (who joined the interview late) talks about coming to Akiak, marriage, the hardships of raising a large family during times of food shortage and starvation, and traditional rules and knowledge. Annie Kawagley was most comfortable speaking Yupik, so she speaks in ...

Beyond the Auschwitz syndrome: Holocaust historiography after t...: Ingenta Connect
The end of the Cold war has seen an explosion in Holocaust history, and some significant changes in the main historiographical explanations. The return of ideology that began displacing the functionalist or structuralist dominance of the 1980s remains strong. But it is being supplemented by very detailed regional and local studies, by analyses of different experiences of ghettoization in different places, and by a focus on the widespread plunder and corruption that accompanied the killing process. This enormous attention to detail reveals that the Holocaust unfolded differently in different places; but it also demonstrates the existence of an overall framework in which all the operations took place, what we might call an antisemitic consensus. Simultaneously, historians have broadened the discussion of the Holocaust, situating it into a transnational or world-historical context of imperialism and colonialism. Stone outlines in broad brush some of these themes, and asks what effects they ...

Documenting the American South: Oral Histories of the American South
The voices of the civil rights movement swelled into a wave of protest that profoundly changed America. This collection of interviews seeks to make this massive movement local and understandable by reducing it into its smallest parts-the people that participated, in small and large ways. These people were former slaves who taught their children the value of education, or high school principals who insisted on punctuality. Drawing together interviews from a variety of Southern Oral History Program collections, this cluster includes interviews with students and teachers at West Charlotte High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, where the successes of integration are encountering the realities of a segregated past; the difficult transition to integrated schooling for students at the all-black Lincoln High School in Chapel Hill, North Carolina; and the roles of black workers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This collection gives voice to the voices, loud and soft, of the movement ...

Billy was one of a number of well-to-do young Britons who came to the Alberta foothills in the 1880s in search of adventure. He stayed to play an important part in the economic and social development of the region. 1. Ted Talk - Aaron OConnell: Making sense of a visible quantum object. Physicists are used to the idea that subatomic particles behave according to the bizarre rules of quantum mechanics, completely different to human-scale objects. In a breakthrough experiment, Aaron OConnell has blurred that distinction by creating an object that is visible to the unaided eye, but provably in two places at the same time. In this talk he suggests an intriguing way of thinking about the result. (ted.com) Very cool. ...
EVELYN - a free suicide prevention event presented by the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute - Bermuda Hospitals Board
Suicide is a difficult subject for many people to talk about or try and face, said Shanay Scott, chairperson of the Mental Health Awareness Committee and organiser of the free screening event.. We encourage not only those in our community who have lost loved ones to suicide, to attend this event, but anyone interested in the subject. Human Resources professionals, counsellors and clergy may gain deeper insight and understanding that may better equip them to help survivors as well as those contemplating suicide.. Critically acclaimed, EVELYN was created by the Academy Award winning filmmakers of The White Helmets and Virunga. It follows Evelyns family 14 years after his death as they decide to walk the length of the UK to try and talk about him - something they had failed to do until that time.. Free to the public, EVELYN will be shown at 3:30pm on Sunday 1 December at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute (BUEI). Doors will open at 3pm and a brief panel discussion will follow the ...
Refutation of Christ Revealed docu-series Ep. 2 - The Godless Wolf
why you do not consider biblical accounts to be only theological and not historical facts.//. Simple. Present a historical contemporary document that proves Mary was visited by an angel, and Ill conclude the story is a historical fact instead of theological.. If a story has historical evidence, it can become a historical fact. A mystical story with no historical evidence yet told as fact anyway is a theological story.. //There is more archeological evidence for the bible being a historical document than any other ancient works//. Incorrect.. Prior to the 1970s one can be forgiven for thinking that archeology is the handmaid of the bible-for one archeological dig after another seemed to confirm it. But this is no longer true. Scholars are questioning the whole paradigm of biblical archaeology, which starts with the assumption that the Bible is a reliable guide for field research. Indeed, there is now so much contrary evidence against the historical accuracy of the Bible that the term biblical ...
A Proposition by Fionn Meade: Day One :: New Museum
Repeatedly an unfaithful servant to the systematizing and unifying impulses of aesthetics and philosophy, Fionn Meade will present a Proposition that will consider how and when artworks enact critique, and why this discernment involves an indispensable entanglement with historiography. To include reflections on Marcel Broodthaers, Rosemarie Trockel, and Group Material, as well as art historian Aby Warburg and writer Danilo Kiš, potential typologies will be outlined. Meade will be joined by artist Jesse Jones on Day Two of his Proposition. Propositions is a public forum that explores ideas in development. Each two-day seminar introduces a topic of current investigation in an invited speakers own artistic or intellectual practice. Over the course of a seminar session, these developing ideas are responded to, researched, and discussed to propel them forward in unique ways. Fionn Meade is a curator and writer based in New York. He has most recently been Curator at Sculpture Center, New York, where ...
Remembering in the Courtroom | zeitgeschichte-online
Veröffentlicht am 5. März 2017. No one can legislate historical truth, said Timothy Garton Ash commenting on the bill voted in the French parliament in 2006 criminalizing denial of the Armenian genocide.[1] Yet, historical truth has been often legislated and decided upon outside of the frameworks of professional historiography. Law makes history and writes the past, going beyond responding to historical change.[2] Although the issue of history in the courtroom is problematic and a research area on its own, the courts nevertheless produce the documentation which can open new perspectives relevant for the field of contemporary history as well as memory studies.. The law is an important aspect of the state-sanctioned memory politics in contemporary Serbia, centering on the reinterpretation of the socialist period and the Second World War as the Yugoslav main legitimacy source. Unlike the majority of the post-socialist countries which have established institutes of national remembrance and museums ...

The African American Woman Golfer: Her Legacy
M. Mikell Johnson has produced a groundbreaking work in sports history, which focuses on the exploits and organisation of black women in golf. JoAnn Gregory-Overstreet notes in the foreword that Johnsons book represents the first complete body of work dedicated to the love of the game of golf exhibited by pioneering women of color (p. ix). These pioneers were seemingly far removed from the white, male, privileged world of the country club (p. ix). Not only is it a history that was far removed from the white, male world of golf, but it is one also removed from the historiography of golf and sport histories, even works on the history of blacks in sport. This work, therefore, is valuable because no monograph exists on this topic, and Johnson adds to our understanding of golf, blacks in golf, and female sport histories.. Since sport historically has for the most part been considered a male domain, the history of sport has generally highlighted male achievements, and many scholars who write ...

Inconvenient History | A Quarterly Journal for Free Historical Inquiry
The book Sonderkommando Auschwitz is presented as The Truth about the Gas Chambers and A Unique Testimony. These reports are completely unfounded, even from the point of view of the historiography of the Holocaust.. The book supplies in fact no truth which was previously unknown and only repeats in a confused and vague manner some truths which were already known. It provides no major contribution, or even anything new, to our knowledge of Auschwitz, on the contrary, it systematically evades all historically relevant questions.. The chronology is practically non-existent. After the date of arrival at Auschwitz, on 11 April 1944[260], the next date to appear in the book is the beginning of October 1944[261], so that the story of almost five months of activity of the Sonderkommando of Crematorium III takes place in a sort of time outside time. Venezia provides no historically useful information on this Sonderkommando: how many prisoners it consisted of, how they were allocated to the ...
Project MUSE - <i>Between Colonialism and Diaspora: Sikh Cultural Formations in an Imperial World</i...
This rich, diverse, and always compelling volume gives us a view into the changing nature of Sikh culture and the Sikh engagement with modernity, from the early colonial era up to the present. It is not a comprehensive account of Sikh history, even in the postcolonial [End Page 535] period-there is, for instance, no discussion of the 1980s Khalistan movement-but Ballantyne provides a stimulating set of essays that illuminate the ways Sikhism came to terms with, and took advantage of, the challenges posed jointly by empire and migration. In its wide-ranging analysis, the book adopts, as Ballantyne writes, an explicitly global approach to Sikh history (p. 168). Against much conventional historiography, especially that written by scholars of Sikhism, Ballantyne insists that Sikh history does not take place in the Punjab alone, even in the nineteenth century, and is not found only in texts. At the same time he argues, in opposition to postcolonial theorists who describe Sikhism as an invention of ...
Patterns of growth and stagnation in the late nineteenth century Habsburg economy - LSE Research Online
This article addresses two issues that feature prominently in the recent historiography. First, how does the Habsburg Empires economic performance compare to the record for other European economies in terms of levels and growth of national income? Second, to what extent was the Austrian economy subject to prolonged stagnation after 1873? These questions are examined on the basis of new annual estimates of GDP for Austria and Hungary for 1870 to 1913. The article argues, first, that over the whole period under review Austrian per capita income failed to expand at a pace broadly commensurate with the countrys relative income position. The Austrian economy did not catch up with the leaders and failed to keep pace with other followers. Second, the Hungarian economy recorded a markedly higher rate of per capita income growth, placing it about mid-range in a European growth comparison. Third, the new evidence supports the notion of a great depression in the western half of the empire (Austria) ...

A conception of the idiotic mind was used to substantiate late 19th-century theories of mental evolution. A new school of animal/comparative psychologists attempted from the 1870s to demonstrate that evolution was a mental as well as a physical process. This intellectual enterprise necessitated the closure, or narrowing, of the consciousness gap between human and animal species. A concept of a quasi-non-conscious human mind, set against conscious intention and ability in higher animals, provided an explanatory framework for the human-animal continuum and the evolution of consciousness. The article addresses a significant lacuna in the historiographies of intellectual disability, animal science, and evolutionary psychology, where the application of a conception of human idiocy to advance theories of consciousness evolution has not hitherto been explored. These ideas retain contemporary resonance in ethology and cognitive psychology, and in the theory of speciesism, outlined by Peter Singer in ...

The Dayton System crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina - DespiteBorders
Bosnia in anticipation. Not only the collision of relations between particular ethnic groups is the cause of continual tension, but also to a large extent vague and often conflicting interpretations of Bosnian history in several national historiographies. In the case that the International Community decides as well that the Dayton process has achieved its full potential, logically, a question arises what is then to be done first. One of the options is to insist on the current state arrangement which would mean to keep on searching for a compromise under the circumstances of fragile relations among the three nations. The second option is the change of inefficient structure emerging from the 1995 peace treaties which were signed with the aim of undertaking necessary constitutional reforms. There is dilemma over the conflicts between two national concepts of the building of Bosnia and Herzegovina, namely the Bosnian one presupposing the establishment of a powerful centralised country with the ...
2017: The Writing Remains Symposium | School of Humanities | University of Bristol
The Writing Remains symposium took place on Friday 20th January, the same day as the inauguration of the new President of the United States Donald Trump, so it was perhaps inevitable that our discussions of the relationship between literature and archaeology turned toward the potential pitfalls of blurring fiction and fact.. Archaeologist Dr Robert Witcher questioned the place of fictional techniques in archaeological research in a post-truth world, but noted that anxieties around the use of narrative in archaeology were nothing new and outlined the many different ways in which literary approaches have shaped archaeological writing and practice.. Dr Jerome de Groot, a literary scholar, suggested that scientific archaeology, and its well-publicised usage in studies of human remains including those of Richard III, is changing popular conceptions of history as well as historiography itself; he argued DNA evidence and scientific reading has become a new form of historical practice. His talk ...

The Vietnam War provides us a new opportunity to examine the history of the war and to examine ourselves and our nation. Must Read Book. Barry, John, Rising Tide: The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 and How It Changed America (1997).. One of the best books Ive read in the last several years is John Barrys Rising Tide. Aside from its original and substantive contributions to our knowledge of the ecological and social history of the Mississippi River valley, it is a superb model of history-writing, in which the analytical and narrative modes are not only combined but integrated. It is also a model of interdisciplinary historiography, which integrates the methods and research-product of several disciplines. It is also compelling reading. SPT v9n1 - Our Relationship to Architecture as a Mode of Shared Citizenship: Some Arendtian Thoughts
I would be inclined to say that the notion offered in this re-statement, that public space isnt exhausted by politics (or that there is a kind of broader sense of politics at stake in public space), is already anticipated in The Human Condition itself, whether Arendt intended this or not. Evidence for this claim is provided by the fact that, as it appears to me, Chapter 4 of the book (on Work) is intellectually more powerful than Chapter 5 (on Action), or offers a more central account of Arendts philosophical concerns. As I interpret Arendts final reflections on judging, her project to base an answer to the problem of mortality on the imperishable meaning of what political agents enact through speaking and acting doesnt really work since the self enacted stories of historical praxis still require art (poetry, historiography) in order to fashion them as memorable and therefore durable sites of meaning. One can pose a second challenge: Isnt this whole way of thinking about politics ...

De Vriess style and narrative technique are often surrealistic, and he mentions surrealism and surrealists in all but two of his twenty-six books. Yet, in fifty years of commentary on De Vries, scarcely any notice has been taken of these surrealist elements. Protecting Slaves and Aborigines | Pacific Historical Review | University of California Press
The historiography on protection in the nineteenth-century British Empire often assumes that British humanitarians were the progenitors of protection schemes. In contrast, this article argues that the position of Protector or Guardian for slaves and Indigenous peoples in the British Empire drew on Spanish, Dutch, and French legal precedents. The legal protections and slave codes operative in these European colonies are compared to British colonial territories, where there was no imperial slave code and no clear status of slaves at common law. Drawing on debates in the House of Commons, Parliamentary Commissions of Inquiry, and the published work of abolitionists and anti-slavery societies, the article examines how the pressure for amelioration in the British Empire coincided with the acquisition of new colonies that offered ready-made models for slave protection. British reformers combined their calls for greater protection for slaves with their extant knowledge of European protective regimes. ...

High Court Awards Compensation for a Familys Loss - Personal Injury Ireland News
The High Court has awarded 850,000 Euros compensation to the family of Evelyn Flanagan, who died in tragic circumstances after giving birth to her second child at Mayo General Hospital.. The court heard how Evelyn (38) from Castlebar, County Mayo, had given birth to her daughter Niamh in October 2007 when her condition suddenly deteriorated due to complications. Staff at the Mayo General Hospital were unable to save her life and a post-mortem shortly after suggested that Evelyn´s death was due an amniotic fluid embolism.. Evelyn´s husband - Padraic - refuted the suggested, and claimed that Evelyn had died due to a postpartum haemorrhage that was the result of a rupture of her uterus which was not detected or adequately dealt with - a claim supported by the findings of an inquest into Evelyn´s death which returned a verdict of death by medical misadventure.. Padraic Flanagan made a claim for compensation against the Mayo General Hospital and Dr Murtada Mohamed, who had been the consultant ...
