Mendel used the scientific approach to identify two laws of inheritance Mendel discovered the basic principles of heredity by breeding garden peas in carefully planned experiments. Advantages of pea plants for genetic study: There are many varieties with distinct heritable features, or characters; character variants are called traits. Mating can be controlled. Each flower has sperm-producing organs (stamens) and an egg- producing organ (carpel) Cross-pollination (fertilization between different plants) involves dusting one plant with pollen from another.
A fundamental question in biology is whether variation in organisms primarily emerges as a function of adaptation or as a function of neutral genetic drift. Trait variation in the model organism bakers yeast follows population bottlenecks rather than environmental boundaries suggesting that it prim …

DNA, also known as deoxyribonucleic acid, is a fundamental molecule found in all living things. It serves as the basis for heredity, specifying which traits are passed on from parents to children through the generations. It also contains instructions for our body cells to perform their specific functions. Structure In humans, most of the DNA…. Details ...
Cancer is a genetic disease. Generally, this is how most people think. If your dad had it so would you. However, scientific research doesnt support this way of thinking. Heredity doesnt necessary give you an ill fated road map to your death bed. Your genes arent the most critical factor but rather, what you eat! Your genes would be influenced by what goes through your mouth. However, eating habit are the most important factor. ...

Mendels inheritance factors, known today as alleles, are key to understanding genetics and how traits are passed from parent to offspring.
Background Despite the limited genetic heterogeneity of Spanish populations, substantial evidences support that historical African influences have not affected them uniformly. Accounting for such population differences might be essential to reduce spurious results in association studies of genetic factors with disease. Using ancestry informative markers (AIMs), we aimed to measure the African influences in Spanish populations and to explore whether these might introduce statistical bias in population-based association studies. Methodology/Principal Findings We genotyped 93 AIMs in Spanish (from the Canary Islands and the Iberian Peninsula) and Northwest Africans, and conducted population and individual-based clustering analyses along with reference data from the HapMap, HGDP-CEPH, and other sources. We found significant differences for the Northwest African influence among Spanish populations from as low as ≈5% in Spanish from the Iberian Peninsula to as much as ≈17% in Canary Islanders, whereas
