Another dimension to this is that I know just enough about being transgendered to hang myself. In the gay community they are so little recognized for their struggles to gain acceptance. I have heard lots of stories about transgendered people being made to feel wierd by some of us gays. Thats just appalling but, Im not one to cast stones here. Take for example Jays and my reaction to Bananabread119s coming out as transgendered on Youtube. We had to get over our preconceptions, prejudices,...and attraction to what we saw as a good looking guy. mayby we get so comfortable in our own bodies sometimes that we cant imagine how someone feels who is not. I have heard some people refer to it as a form of self mutilation...I could never do that to myself...I could never have my (fill in body part here) cut off! What many people fail to recognize is that it isnt who they want to love that is at stake...it is something just as intrinsic to their being...their bodies and sense of self. I think the ...
And here we come to the difference in the treatment of the transgendered boys and a question of fairness. The draconian treatment of Bradley may or may not be misguided and may or may not cause problems later in life, but either way it is designed to protect him. We live in a society where transgendered people are mistreated and the hope is that the treatment will allow Bradley to escape the hardships of life that he would face growing up in a society wrongly biased against the transgendered. Being transgendered is something which is is incredibly hard, if not impossible, to receive permission for. Jonah, on the other hand, is not being asked to change now, and may very well have it harder later, unless well-adjusted transgendered adults can alter the structure, making it so that transgendered folks do not need permission to be who they are. But the lives of those who blaze the trail for those who come later is a very difficult one. Jonah may make things better for transgendered children who ...
Officials at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, said that state law renders them powerless to prevent a transgender man from using the womens locker room at the school because he supposedly identifies as a woman. The 45-year-old man, who calls himself Colleen Francis, reportedly exposed himself on several occasions to young girls who were using the locker room as part of swimming clubs. But instead of having the man arrested, school officials have insisted that a state non-discrimination law protects the transgendered man from prosecution.. We have to follow a non-discrimination policy with the state, Jason Wettstein, a spokesman for the college, told CampusReform.org. State law doesnt allow us to ignore gender identity as one of the protected classes. Therefore the transgendered individual has the right to use our facilities, including the locker rooms.. The school rents its swimming pool and locker facilities to local high school swimming teams, as well as to a pair of ...
Transgender patients had an increased risk for MI compared with cisgender patients, according to data presented at the American Heart Association Quality of Care and Outcomes Research Scientific Sessions. This was seen in all patients except for transgender women vs. cisgender men, according to the study, which was also published in Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes.
You take issue with my parallels of bestiality and I certainly understand that comparison is uncomfortable. However, what you seem to be articulating does, it seems to me, leave you open to these types of comparisons. One of my professors used to refer it as the hobgoblin of consistency. You say that the transgendered individual is no different than someone born with a genetic abnormality but your only foundation for that claim is the assertion by the transgendered person that they feel like they should have been born a different gender. There are no genetic markers otherwise; just psychological ones. So how can you avoid giving credence to the person who says that they feel that they shouldnt have been born as a human; that they really self-identify as a dog or cat and that they want to associate with those of their own self-identified kind? Then, once technology develops how will you escape supporting the surgeon who offers to begin a transspecies transformation? I do think that this is ...
October 1999 - Research and consultation conducted by Commission staff in preparation for this paper shows that transgendered people experience negative stereotypes that have a pervasive and often traumatic impact on virtually every aspect of their lives. They are shunned by society and regarded with suspicion. Their jobs, housing and family lives are as threatened by the process of coming out as by involuntary discovery. These are all issues that favour the development of a progressive policy to protect the human rights of transgendered persons within the legal framework of the Code ...
Policy makers and the media are doing no favors either to the public or the transgendered by treating their confusions as a right in need of defending rather than as a mental disorder that deserves understanding, treatment and prevention. This intensely felt sense of being transgendered constitutes a mental disorder in two respects. The first is that the idea of sex misalignment is simply mistaken-it does not correspond with physical reality. The second is that it can lead to grim psychological outcomes.. The transgendered suffer a disorder of assumption like those in other disorders familiar to psychiatrists. With the transgendered, the disordered assumption is that the individual differs from what seems given in nature-namely ones maleness or femaleness. Other kinds of disordered assumptions are held by those who suffer from anorexia and bulimia nervosa, where the assumption that departs from physical reality is the belief by the dangerously thin that they are overweight.. With body ...
The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) has published a lette= r to the Editor entitled Health Care Needs of Transgendered Patients in its September 18, 1996 issue. The letter is authored by Anne Lawrence MD, and co-signed by Joy Shaffer MD, Wynelle Snow MD, Cat Chase MD, and Bo Headlam (Medical Student). All of the doctors identify as transgendered or transsexual, and are also members of the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA). In their letter, the doctors comment on the report Health Care Needs of Gay Men and Lesbians in the United States, by the AMA Council on Scientific Affairs. They stress the overlap between the issues of gender identity and sexual orientation, and urge the Council to explicitly address the health care needs of the transgendered in future reports. They go on to briefly outline some of the issues transgendered patients face. In a reply, James R. Allen, MD, Secretary of the Council on Scientific Affairs, responds favorably, and strongly encourages ...
In understanding the appropriateness of the treatment provided in correctional institutions, it is helpful to consider guidelines developed by the major professional organization concerned with GID, the Harry Benjamin International Gender Dysphoria Association, now known as the World Professional Organization of Transgendered Health (WPATH). The guidelines that were used at the time this article was originally prepared were the Harry Benjamin International Standards of Care, 6th Version (2001).20 The standards of care (SOC) focus on a triadic model, a combination of real-life experience, hormones, and surgery. The concept of real-life experience refers to adopting a new gender role or presentation in daily life. For initiation of hormone treatment, the recommended eligibility criteria include being 18 years of age, demonstrating an understanding of the risks and benefits of the treatment, and either three months of real-life experience in the chosen gender role or three months of psychotherapy. ...

HVTN 505 is a preventative vaccine efficacy trial testing DNA followed by recombinant adenovirus serotype 5 (rAd5) in circumcised, Ad5-seronegative men and transgendered persons who have sex with men in the United States. Identified immune correlates of lower HIV-1 risk and a virus sieve analysis revealed that, despite lacking overall efficacy, vaccine-elicited responses exerted pressure on infecting HIV-1 viruses. To interrogate the mechanism of the antibody correlate of HIV-1 risk, we examined antigen-specific antibody recruitment of Fcγ receptors (FcγRs), antibody-dependent cellular phagocytosis (ADCP), and the role of anti-envelope (anti-Env) IgG3. In a prespecified immune correlates analysis, antibody-dependent monocyte phagocytosis and antibody binding to FcγRIIa correlated with decreased HIV-1 risk. Follow-up analyses revealed that anti-Env IgG3 breadth correlated with reduced HIV-1 risk, anti-Env IgA negatively modified infection risk by Fc effector functions, and that vaccine ...

Signaling growing tolerance for transgendered people, the California senate agreed Thursday to ban housing and job discrimination against residents whose perceived gender characteristics are different from those traditionally associated with the individuals sex at birth. The senate voted 23-11 to add gender identity or expression to the dozen characteristics already protected under the states Fair Employment and Housing Act. If the governor signs the bill, California would become the fourth state to make it illegal to deny someone a job or place to live on that basis. Although the law would apply to all men and women whose appearances do not conform with masculine or feminine norms, its passage is widely viewed as a victory for transgendered people. Having a law that specifically states whos protected makes it clear to employers that the majority of people in California want transgendered people to be able to work in a nondiscriminatory environment, said Chris Daley, codirector of the ...
Dear B. Scott,. I am an old school love muffin from way back and from getting to know your personality on YouTube and different media, I would consider you as a trusted friend if we knew each other in person. My concern is a little different from most of your Ebony columns, and it is about offensive terms. Whether it comes to racial slang such as the N-word, or pejorative words to describe women, transgendered people, or lesbian and gay people I am a little confused on whether it is acceptable to use these terms. I would never in any circumstance use the words that come to mind in a negative or hateful context, but I also know that some people can take offense to these words. Lately, I have decided never to use the word tr***y because I believe it is offensive to transgendered people, especially transgendered women. However, I have other voices in my life such as Rupaul from Rupauls Drag Race that use it and defend the usage of the word tr***y. What is your personal take on reclaiming offensive ...

When we sat down on the panel, she mentioned that she wasnt sure what she was going to talk about, or why she had been chosen to participate on this particular panel. I wasnt quite sure what she was going to talk about either. She started by talking about how righteously angry she got when talking with a group of college girls who stated their preferred pronouns. When she was first learning about transgendered individuals and the efforts towards equality for transgendered people, she recalls how she thought it was naive of these students to think that their struggle was difficult. She recalled how she had been in the thick of fighting for racial equality, and that the struggles today were nothing compared to the hatred and violence that occurred in the 60s and 70s ...
Ive seen some intros/bios go by here, and thought it might be good to introduce myself to this audience. Ive been a reader (and occasional poster) on CDForum and TRANSGEN for a while, I seem to be reasonably well known on alt.sex.bondage, and while Im not on #Crossdress on IRC as often as I used to be, I was a regular there for a while. So many of you already know me. And Ive posted a couple of things here so far. Still, since many of you might not read where Ive made my name, heres who I am. This is long, and I talk at least as much about other people and their reactions, and about being out, as I do about myself. But Ill try to remember to give yall a clue who I am in here someplace. But this whole thing is kind of disorganized and scattershot. Ill turn thirty in a couple weeks. Im a computer programmer and guitarist living in Maryland. Im male. I usually describe myself as a TV, though Im no longer certain that its all that simple. I seem to exhibit some TS traits. If TVism and ...
Some Satanists are transgendered too. Its hard for me to believe that Satanists would go as far as to say that transgendered people (FTM and MTF) are all posers and ridiculous. I may not fully agree with the pregnant man and what he is doing, but I also dont agree with the full inclusion of all transsexuals being posers and ridiculous. Not to mention that going through these processes take a lot out of you and change many things, physical and mental. Also, if she elected to not go with any (genital) operations as of yet, this means that she still has a greater chance of hormonal imbalances. What if she forgot to take her pill one day or took it late or early another day? Who knows what is going through the pregnant mans head, and furthermore, who are normal hormonally balanced people to judge her actions, so long as they dont directly involve anyone who doesnt wish to be involved and no one is hurt who wishes not to be hurt? (Hearing about it doesnt count as being involved. When ...

I know, well rather read many stories where your significant other doesn?t get all the truth out of many others of us cross dressers or transgendered whatever the case might be. My question is, How do you all feel about the fact that many do omissions in talking to our spouses, girlfriends or just friends in general. Not telling all the facts or how far we really want to go say my wife knows I crossdress by shaving our legs wearing panties and hosiery etc but not know we want to wear skirts

This whole thing brings up a lot of questions. There do seem to be a small number of individuals who ended up with the wrong genetalia furor their chromosomal sex. My guess is that they tend more often than not to be genetically male, because the female is the default. And, they tend to be over represented in the Olympics because of the natural advantages of males in athletics. These probably are going to be quite rare though because that would be a complete evolutionary dead end. They most likely cannot breed at all. And, if species are going to survive, they cant be common. Which makes me think that more transgendered fall into the category of wrongly wired brain. And that probably puts them much more in the category of having brains not wired correctly (from an evolutionary point of view). Which could be argued to be an extreme of what appears to cause much of homosexuality. If the genetalia and sex organs match genetic sex, the individual is likely capable of breeding (necessarily with the ...
Also, from a gender perspective, this whole thing is a giant mindfuck for me right now. I spent the past decade studying gender, and arguing with people who say there are biological gender differences by gender, saying they are minimal at best, and one of my arguments was I dont [insert stereotypical female behavior], and aint I a woman? I also went through a period in college where I questioned whether I was transgendered to some degree, because throughout my life Ive been called Manly told I wear the pants in my relationships etc. Even as a teenager, I always got along better with men than with women (I was frequently the only woman in a room full of dudes), and most of my best friends are men. Only to find that I probably have a disorder that leads to an unusually high amount of androgyns or male hormones. That doesnt mean that the majority of gender roles arent social rather than biological, but its still..i dont know how to process that. I guess me as a woman having an ...
I come late to organizing as a transgender activist. In doing so, I?ve learned a lot. I?ve learned transgendered people truly are everywhere and not just in New York, San Francisco and Washington D.C. I?ve learned many want to quietly assimilate into the white, heterosexual, middle class status quo that is the dominant culture of our nation. I?ve learned quite a few of us have no wish or desire for such assimilation?that for some of us, our greatest desire is to shake up that dominant culture, to question gender and identity on every level?social, biological, political and personal. I?ve learned that perhaps right at this moment there is a transgendered person?most likely an MTF transsexual or crossdresser, most likely a person of color, being brutally murdered. I?ve learned people much younger than I are coming out as transgendered in ways I never believed possible when I was their age and are challenging not only the status quo, but also calling on ?old? activists like me to take another look ...
First, that Paul Hurst is not transgendered within the meaning of the act, as he does not live as a member of the opposite sex, merely playing at it sometimes, and discarding the role whenever he wants to. Now the act does not say that living as a member of the opposite sex has to be a permanent arrangement, that a transgendered person has to do that all the time. It is open to the Tribunal to find that as long as the person lives as the opposite sex sometimes, that is enough. That would not include Transvestite fetishists who only dress in private, and dont take on a opposite-sex role, but would include Drag Queens and part-time crossdressers who habitually (but not permanently) present as the opposite sex in public. I dont find that a particularly convincing argument though. The intent of Parliament seems quite the contrary. Still, Judges could reasonably rule otherwise ...
Deacon Dr. Patrick Lappert is two things you wouldnt necessarily expect to occur in tandem - a plastic surgeon, and a deacon for the Roman Catholic Church.. These two roles give him a unique understanding of the human person, both physically and metaphysically. Theyve also given him a unique perspective on transgendered persons, and the current cultural movement to support surgical sex changes.. Dr. Lappert was asked to speak at this years Truth and Love conference for Courage in Phoenix. He included the case of the Reimer twins during his talk, Transgender Surgery and Christian Anthropology.. The on-paper success of Brenda Reimer as a lovely and well-adjusted little girl did not match the lived reality of the child, Dr. Lappert said. Brenda Reimer was a rambunctious tomboy - shunned by the boys for wearing dresses, and by the girls for being too wild.. She was very rebellious. She was very masculine, and I could not persuade her to do anything feminine. Brenda had almost no friends ...
A womens dressing room is a communal environment, as is a restroom, even tho there are separate cubicles with doors or curtains for each individual to use. A woman (born female) is far more likely to ask for help or an opinion from another woman in that environment than it would seem men do in their respective dressing rooms/restrooms. They bring with them their children expecting that no men (of any sexual orientation) are there to present any threat, even tho they will keep an eye out for how the other women might behave. They ask for and receive help for situations that arise regarding their clothing, their menfolk or their periods (being a woman, as opposed to just thinking one is a woman), and are in no way interested in anything a cross dresser or transgendered person has to contribute to that situation ...
But many were forced to divorce and many others simply were divorced. In those cases, the fear of exposure often left the transgendered spouse to be fair game in the divorce settlement. Often children were involved, and the courts would only allow supervised visitation. This aspect of transgender discrimination is getting a little better, but it is still not that good. I get lots of letters and calls and E-mail from people who are being forced into lopsided property settlements and out of partial custody or visitation of their children. It remains another uphill climb.. Straight parents, siblings and children are often very unsure about how to respond to their transgendered family member. If they come around to acceptance at all, it is usually long after the transgender has struggled by herself or himself through transition. Recently the Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays became transgender inclusive. The PFLAG Transgender Special Outreach Network also published a helpful pamphlet [note ...

I think it bears repeating, so once again, the word gender has acquired the new and useful connotation of cultural or attitudinal characteristics as opposed to physical characteristics, distinctive to the sexes. That is to say, gender is to sex as feminine is to female and masculine is to male.. Justice Scalia clearly states that sex and gender are two different things.. Transgendered individuals are people whose sexual identity does not correspond to the physical sexual characteristics with which they were born. They literally do not feel comfortable in their own skin, in the body nature gave them. They feel feminine, but have a male body, or they feel masculine, but have a female body.. With that in mind, it is easy to imagine the discrimination, prejudice, harassment, and violence these individuals are often subjected to. A shy teen, a small man, and a kid with above-average intelligence are often harassed. Now imagine someone who is transgendered. Statistics are an excellent way to ...
There were tens of thousands of people, and the sheer numbers alone triggered every one of my instincts as a biologist, said Roughgarden, a leading researcher in her field whose controversial new book Evolutions Rainbow -- Diversity, Gender and Sexuality in Nature and People (University of California Press) deals with issues that cross the wide divide from science to politics and morality. [...] she set out to study the roles of diversity, gender and sexuality in nature, a process that would end with a challenge to a long-held Darwinian theory, to fellow scientists and politicians. The time has come, she writes, to take a stand, to say that we, in all our shapes and sizes, in all our gender expression, sexual orientations and body parts, are healthy. The publication of and buzz surrounding Evolutions Rainbow is why one recent afternoon we found ourselves talking about hyena genitalia while sitting in a cafe by the Embarcadero. Roughgarden had been easy to recognize because she looks just like

Congratulations, Mr. President! The progressive lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered (LGBT) community is delighted that you have an opportunity to turn America back on a path to tolerance. Heres what we expect in return: no more, and no less, than what we got from William Jefferson Clinton.. Whats that? You say that Clinton botched every piece of LGBT-related legislation he touched? True enough. His dont ask, dont tell policy did make life worse for lesbians and gay men in the military, increasing the numbers of gay-related discharges. And he did sign into law the nasty 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, which officially decreed that the federal marriage algorithm was limited to boy + girl, no substitutions.. But until Congress turns blue, we really dont expect you to push much LGBT-related legislation. What we do expect is strong moral leadership. Clinton moved LGBT issues forward by light-years, simply by talking about and treating us as full human beings and valuable American ...

They mention other areas of the economy such as labor, nonprofits, the academy with the routine push for diversity requiring more minority representation, based on physical features of the candidates.. To provide better context to the reader, as an author and a black male, I understand diversity from my own life experiences; however, it is important we dont fall into such a diversity trap. While having more people of color, females, or even transgendered would bring a different physical look to the Fed, there remains the unseen and overlooked area of diversity, i.e., intellectual diversity. This form of diversity appears to have been ignored entirely, supplanted for aesthetic traits.. Last year, I wrote several articles about Judy Shelton, including Why the MSM Hates Judy Shelton. While her potential appointment was the responsibility of Congress, one could suggest she may not have gotten nominated to the Fed board because she is a woman. However, studying her history such as ...
