General knowledge is also called common knowledge. It is basically the information that everybody should ideally know. General knowledge is not confined to a certain subject. It involves information about varied fields including science, history, literature, geography, economics, social science, entertainment, business, sports, current news and happenings in the world. General knowledge is important because knowing about such facts portrays a person as someone who is aware, knowledgeable and not ignorant. Kids may have general knowledge lessons in schools but general knowledge is something that needs to be assimilated over the years by reading books and by gathering information from any resources such as the TV, internet, newspapers and even by talking to people. Game shows such as Who Wants to Be a Millionaire have become popular as general knowledge testing games for adults.. ...

Research has found that on average males tend to score higher than females on tests of overall general knowledge and in most domains of knowledge tested.[1][5][10][11] Males also score higher than females on the information subtest of the WAIS[1][12] and the WISC,[13] with small to medium effect sizes. In a comparison between male and female university students in 19 domains of academic knowledge, males had greater knowledge in 14 domains, especially in physical science and technology, but also in humanities and civics.[5] A general knowledge composite across all 19 tests showed a male advantage of medium effect size. A study of university students in Northern Ireland found that males scored higher in general knowledge than females, as well as in 12 of 19 specific knowledge domains. Females scored moderately higher than males in medicine and cookery. The authors of this study suggested that this male advantage most likely reflects differences in interests rather than differences in verbal or ...

TOK is not traditional text-based philosophy. Nor is it Epistemology with a major emphasis on the useful, but ultimately slippery and paradoxical, notion of Justified True Belief. TOK Knowledge Questions are big questions; but they are not too big. Anchored in the real world they stop short of wild metaphysical speculation. Ever so often timeless philosophical riddles emerge naturally in TOK classes. It can be fun; even awe inspiring to allow students a first pass or brief encounter with them. This is more than playing tennis with the net down; as long as dizzy, aimless discussion is avoided; or better-elevated.. One way of framing the biggest (from the Western perspective: Pre-Socratic) metaphysical questions is to acknowledge that they are way beyond the scope of 100 hours of TOK. Their resolution may be forever beyond the grasp of mere human intellect and ingenuity. Another way is to designate (and perhaps sanitize) them as the subject matter of certain Areas of Knowledge-Philosophy (as a ...

Working with hundreds of security awareness programs has taught me one thing, people are key. One of the quickest ways I can determine if an awareness program is going to be successful is by asking how many people are dedicated to the awareness program. Budget is not the indicator, fancy metrics are not the indicator, people are the indicator. If you have just 30% of one persons time dedicated to your awareness program, you will fail. Could you image the results if one-third of one person is all you dedicated to your EndPoint security or Incident Response efforts? If you want to change organizational behavior (Stage 3 of the Security Awareness Maturity Model) you need at least 1.4 FTEs (Full Time Employees) dedicated to your awareness program. If you want to go beyond behavior and change culture and measure that change, you need at least 2.6 FTEs. And that is for organizations with 5,000 employees. How do we know this? Simple, we have hard data from over 1,000 security awareness professionals ...

In artificial intelligence, knowledge-based agents draw on a pool of logical sentences to infer conclusions about the world. At the knowledge level, we only need to specify what the agent knows and what its goals are; a logical abstraction separate from details of implementation. This notion of knowledge level was first introduced by Allen Newell in the 1980s, to have a way to rationalize an agents behavior. The agent takes actions based on knowledge it possesses, in an attempt to reach specific goals. It chooses actions according to the principle of rationality. Beneath the knowledge level resides the symbol level. Whereas the knowledge level is world oriented, namely that it concerns the environment in which the agent operates, the symbol level is system oriented, in that it includes the mechanisms the agent has available to operate. The knowledge level rationalizes the agents behavior, while the symbol level mechanizes the agents behavior. For example, in a computer program, the knowledge ...

The interaction between a pregnant mother and her developing baby are numerous and varied ranging from the food she eats to the kicks of the baby that she feels. What the developing baby feeds on goes a long way in determining its state of health at birth. For a pregnant mother to eat healthfully, she needs to have adequate knowledge of the different component of food. But if the knowledge is not put in practice, it becomes meaningless.. The major objective of this study therefore was to examine the nutritional knowledge and practice of the pregnant women in Onitsha North and South Local Government Areas of Anambra State. Because of the large number involved, and the fact that most of the hospital had no maternity, only two hundred and fifty expectant mothers were used. Eight specific objectives and corresponding research questions and six hypotheses were stated and used for the study.. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire which had three sections. The personal data of the ...

Anticipated demographic changes, including aging and minority status, in the next decade demand that healthcare professionals-in-training develop the skills necessary to provide culturally competent care for some of Americas most vulnerable patients, minority older adults. Communication skills are especially important in the care for older adults, who are at particularly high risk of having low health literacy. Low health literacy may lead to increased morbidity and mortality, and increased healthcare costs. Medical education strategies to combat low health literacy may include raising awareness of this issue, enhancing provider communication skills, and identifying characteristics of culturally appropriate patient handout materials. These objectives are the backbone of this 2.5 hour Low Health Literacy workshop for interdisciplinary trainees, including social work, nursing and medical students ...
State regulations on health education have evolved over a period of time. The first portion of the regulation that was developed involved the teaching of family life education. This became effective on July 1, 1970. Next came the regulation regarding HIV/AIDS prevention education. This began as an emergency regulation on October 6, 1987 and was adopted as a final regulation on May 2, 1988. Finally, when the regulation was put forward on comprehensive health education instruction, all three sections were compiled under the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR), Title 13A. In this high-risk population, few adolescents received HPV vaccination, highlighting the need to understand which modifiable factors explain why some patients obtain recommended vaccinations, whereas others do not. Although it is conceivable that knowledge is a prerequisite of healthy choices, it has been unclear if knowledge is indeed related to vaccination. In turn, this longitudinal study examined how strongly knowledge is associated with and predictive of subsequent vaccination.. This study found that neither parental nor adolescent knowledge was related to adolescent vaccination, as measured objectively at prospective time points. Some with low knowledge did get vaccinated and others with high knowledge did not get vaccinated, suggesting that, for many, knowledge was neither necessary nor sufficient. Visual inspection of the data did not reveal any relationships, and the measures of association between vaccination and knowledge scores, as well as single knowledge items, were very low. ...

Our two dimensions of social exclusion-socioeconomic disadvantage and dislike of school-are both associated with different risk factors for teenage pregnancy. Even in this baseline cross sectional survey it is clear that social inequalities in sexual health risk (measured by a variety of cognitive and behavioural measures) exist among 13 and 14 year olds.. Socioeconomic disadvantage was associated with low knowledge about sex and contraception, but not with expectations of sexual intercourse before age 16. In contrast, dislike of school was not associated with low knowledge, but was associated with expectations about having sex before age 16. Our findings suggest that both exposures might influence the risk of teenage pregnancy, and that dislike of school seems potentially to be particularly important, in that its association with behavioural measures is especially strong.. Because the crude and adjusted ORs are quite similar, inter-confounding is relatively insignificant. We therefore ...

This study demonstrates that there is a wide knowledge gap regarding TB among the study participants. Majority of the study participants didnt know bacteria as the cause of TB. They mentioned wind, cold and spiritual punishment as the cause of the disease which is similar to findings of other studies from other parts of Ethiopia [13, 14]. Misconception about the correct cause of the disease could affect patient attitude towards health-seeking behavior and preventive methods. On the other hand, study participants had good knowledge of the mode of transmission of TB its signs and symptoms which is better than the findings of study conducted in Jimma [14] and lower than the findings of study conducted in Afar [13]. In the present study, distance , 10 km from the health facilities was found to be one of the factors that associated with low knowledge of the participants about TB. This finding supports the findings of study conducted in Tigray, which showed that study participants from long distance ...
Breastfeeding continues to pose a significant risk of HIV transmission to infants born to HIV-infected mothers, accounting for 200,000 infants sero-converting per year in low-resource settings. Myriad social, cultural and economic factors, including knowledge of HIV/AIDS and HIV status, could affect the extent to which women adhere to the recommended practice of exclusive breastfeeding after delivery. Very little research has examined the effects of knowledge of HIV/AIDS and HIV testing status on infant feeding intentions in the antenatal period and followed women to ascertain actual practices postnatally. To address these gaps in the literature, Dr. Onono will examine the effects of HIV/AIDS knowledge, attitudes and testing status on infant feeding intentions before birth and actual postnatal practices in a cohort of pregnant women; including those who are HIV-positive, HIV-negative, and those of unknown HIV status. Beginning in 2007, the KEMRI-UCSF Collaborative Group working with Family AIDS ...
