Collette For bone and cartilage I would try to work with enzymatic retreival methods, such as proteinase K, pronase, trypsin, or hyaluronic acid. Not all antibodies will work with enzyme digestion but quite a few do, the enzyme retreival methods will not be as harsh as HEIR. If you do have to use HIER I would use a steamer or a gentler method. Lower temperatures with longer retreival periods might help, but I have been unable to get these to work well in my hands on bone. Pasty I think has had success with longer retrieval times at lower temps, maybe she can respond with some suggestions. I also use a good silane treated slide, and there are ones that are better than others. When I section I do not let bone sections air dry at room temp I place them on a warm hot plate (around 44 degrees) you dont want the paraffin to melt, I find that that sometimes causes the articular cartilage to flip. I leave then on the hot plate overnight and do not place them in an over afterwords. I get pretty good ...

Over the past few years there have been considerable breakthroughs in the market for thermal imagers including the fact that prices have dropped considerably. Even better, the ideal thermal imager for todays building thermographer does not necessarily need to be "top-of-the-line" or "most expensive". Whether you are a home performance contractor, weatherization crew member or energy auditor there are many fine choices that will certainly meet your needs. This paper will provide an overview of thermal imaging equipment for building applications. As you read this, know that The Snell Group is vendor-neutral and we do not sell equipment nor are we a subsidiary of any infrared camera manufacturer. As such, this paper is not going to recommend a specific brand or model of thermal imager. It will instead summarize which equipment specifications are important for you to consider and which ones maybe are not." ...

Aims Research priorities are often set by academic researchers or the pharmaceutical industry. The interests of patients, carers and clinicians may therefore be overlooked and research questions that matter may be neglected. The aims of this study were to collect uncertainties about the treatment of Type1 diabetes from patients, carers and health professionals, and to collate and prioritize these uncertainties to develop a top 10 list of research priorities, using a structured priority-setting partnership of patients, carers, health professionals and diabetes organizations, as described by the James Lind Alliance. Methods A partnership of interested organizations was set up, and from this a steering committee of 10 individuals was formed. An online and paper survey was used to identify uncertainties. These were collated, and the steering group carried out an interim priority-setting exercise with partner organizations. This group of uncertainties was then voted on to give a smaller list that went
The best thing homeowners can do is sign up for a free home energy assessment with the Home Performance With Energy Star program, says Dayle Zatlin, assistant director of communications for the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), Using a list of approved contractors provided by NYSERDA, homeowners get someone to come look at the whole house - mostly for air leaks that let heat out of the house. Pasquale Marchese, an Albany architect and project manager and president of the Eastern New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, provided the following tips for making sure your house is as energy-efficient as possible as we enter the cold season. Hire a home energy auditor, who can scan walls and see where there is leakage or a lack of insulation. Among the options: recycled insulation and spray foam, vapor barriers and air barriers. Thermal break frames provide an internal barrier between the inside and outside of the window frame. Drain the lawn

Amy Kapczynski, professor of law at Yale Law School and faculty director of the Global Health Justice Partnership. "International trade deals once focused primarily on tariffs. As a result, they had little direct effect on health, and health experts could reasonably leave their details to trade professionals. Not so today. Modern trade pacts have implications for a wide range of health policy issues, from medicine prices to tobacco regulation, not only in the developing world but also in the United States. Registered nurses at Glendora Community voted last year to unionize and are continuing to negotiate with management regarding the conversion.. They have complained about understaffing, leaky roofs, rooms that are too hot and malfunctioning call lights. Those concerns also were presented at a Glendora City Council meeting in January.. "This is a reoccurring theme where we tell upper management our concerns and they say that theyre trying … it sounds like a broken record," one of the employees told the council.. Glendora Community spokeswoman Brianne Underwood said all of those issues have been addressed.. We evaluated impact of the needle length, sex, and body condition on chemical immobilization induction time in 50 (29 males and 21 females) free-ranging fallow deer (Dama dama) in Sweden, 2006-11. Induction time is probably the single most important factor when immobilizing free-ranging wildlife with the use of a remote drug-delivery system. Induction times should be short to minimize stress and risk of injury, and to ensure that immobilized animals can be found and clinically monitored as soon as possible. We measured the distance between the darting location and where we recovered the immobilized animal and also the time occurring between the two events. We used two types of needles: 2.0 × 30- or 2.0 × 40-mm barbed needles with side ports. The most important result is that a 10-mm-longer dart needle can reduce the retrieval time substantially (,20 min) until an animal is under monitoring. On average after the darting, the retrieval time decreased from 51 to 29 min and the distance decreased ...

Todays homes are built with efficiency in mind! What does that mean, exactly? Well, it means that modern homes are sealed up tightly, not letting any heat out in the winter and not letting any heat in during the summer. Sounds like a good deal, right? It is a great deal, so long as your home is newer and doesnt have any home performance problems. Aging homes may be losing their air sealing in areas, and therefore causing heat transfer where there shouldnt be. This means that your air conditioner may not be able to cool your home as efficiently as possible, and the same goes for your furnace or other heating system heating you in the winter. The good news is, theres something you can do about it-invest in professional air sealing services!. ...

The Government has to move away from the model of elite governance to one of collective governance built on a distributed network of people who can contribute to public life. It means tapping the collective wisdom of citizens, and harnessing the tools of social innovation and co-creation. Not only is such a system of governance more inclusive, it is also likely to be more resilient. Some parts of the Government, such as the Ministry of National Development in relation to ideas to turn the old KTM land into a green corridor, have taken tentative steps in this direction. Hopefully, this approach will extend meaningfully to other contested policy issues ...

In this paper we use an instrumental variable estimator to exploit sources of independent variation, which allows unbiased estimation of the tax-price elasticity under more general conditions. The estimator is applied to the demand for charitable giving. A charitable giving equation is an appropriate test for this procedure because it represents the purest case of a tax-price coefficient. That is, taxes are the sole source of variance in the price. The deduction is also an important policy issue. In 1982, 1.8 percent of gross income was deducted for this reason, about as much as the capital gains deduction. ...

As nonprofits aim to attract and retain top talent under a ceiling of salary budget constraints, providing a competitive benefits package becomes increasingly important. The fourteenth annual Benefits in Nonprofit Organizations Survey, released on July 1, 2014, reports that nonprofits are paying approximately 70-75% of the total premium cost of medical coverage, on par with 2013 levels but substantially lower than employer contributions in 2012 (87%). Similar to employers in the private industry, nonprofit organizations appear to be continuing cost saving strategies by shifting more expenses on to the employees.

The potential and limitations of key leadership concepts such as sense-making and framing are explored, and notions of relational leadership and the importance of leading with political astuteness are discussed.. ...
