Defects in insulin secretion and reduction in β-cell mass are associated with type 2 diabetes in humans and understanding the basis for these dysfunctions may reveal strategies for diabetes therapy. In this study, we show that pancreas-specific knockout of growth factor receptor-binding protein 10 (Grb10), which is highly expressed in pancreas and islets, leads to elevated insulin/IGF-1 signaling in islets, enhanced β-cell mass and insulin content, and increased insulin secretion in mice. Pancreas-specific disruption of Grb10 expression also improved glucose tolerance in mice fed with a high-fat diet and protected mice from streptozotocin-induced β-cell apoptosis and body weight loss. Our study has identified Grb10 as an important regulator of β-cell proliferation and demonstrated that reducing the expression level of Grb10 could provide a novel means to increase β-cell mass and reduce β-cell apoptosis. We present motivations for and study feasibility of a small, rapid-optical/IR response gamma-ray burst (GRB) space observatory. By analyzing existing GRB data, we give realistic detection rates for X-ray and optical/IR instruments of modest size under actual flight conditions. Given new capabilities of fast optical/IR response (~1 s to target) and simultaneous multi-band imaging, such an observatory can have a reasonable event rate, likely leading to new science. Requiring a Swift-like orbit, duty cycle, and observing constraints, a Swift-BAT scaled down to 190 cm2 of detector area would still detect and locate about 25 GRB yr-1 for a trigger threshold of 6.5σ. Multi-wavelength follow-up observations were carried out, and X-ray, optical, and radio counterparts to GW170817 were detected. The observations undoubtedly indicate that GRB 170817A originates from a binary neutron star merger. However, the GRB falls into the low-luminosity class that could have a higher statistical occurrence rate and detection probability than the normal (high-luminosity) class. This implies the possibility that GRB 170817A is intrinsically powerful, but we are off-axis and only observe its side emission. Now, the auction text doesnt specifically claim that the part isnt reproduction, but it does state that its Meccano - but the only part that is Meccano is the central spider. To even the greenest collector of Meccano, these parts arent pre-war. Neither are they, in any reasonable fashion, good to good plus. At least, I dont think they are.. The only question remains on the box. Is this genuine Meccano? Was there an early (pre-1928) version of the GRB box (or indeed, a late one) like this? It remains to be seen. My hunch is that these arent genuine, simply because its in too good a condition. This GRB was clearly bought and used in a model around 1970, and bears the scars from that use. I cant imagine that this box is more than twice the age of its contents -- otherwise why would it be connected with this part? And another identical box has appeared with a reproduction part in it?
