The purposes of this study were to investigate the effects of goal-setting and imagery programs, as well as a combined goal-setting and imagery training program, on the free-throw performance among female collegiate basketball players over the course of an entire season. A multiple-baseline, single-subject A-B-A design was employed in which participants were randomly assigned to one of three interventions: (a) goal-setting (n = 4), (b) imagery (n = 4), or (c) goal-setting and imagery (n = 4). Free-throw data were collected during practice sessions. Data were examined by way of changes in mean, level, trend, latency, and variability between baseline and intervention, and then between intervention and a second baseline phase. Three participants in the goal-setting program, and one participant in the goal-setting and imagery program, increased their mean free-throw performance from baseline to intervention. However, three participants in the imagery program decreased their mean free-throw ...

This book is an effort to bring together scholars from several countries report on their research on topics of common interest in psychology. At the same time the book also provided an opportunity to observe to some extent the zeitgeist of our discipline, and the progress made toward establishing a world psychology. The contributions from Eastern Europe represent new developments in that direction as formerly the topical interests followed largely Soviet psychology.. The chapters also discuss the interests in international psychology. That seems to be a hopeful development as the chapters reflect both theoretical concerns, but also practical information useful to the well-being and integration of society. We hope the book is useful to students and researchers in psychology. As an example of the current interests in international psychology the book could be a useful supplement in a variety of courses including dispositional themes, social psychology and organizational courses.. The chapters are ...
We all have the extraordinary coded within us waiting to be released. ~ Dr. Jean Houston. Top of the year reflection, visioning and goal-setting can sometimes feel complicated and overwhelming. The ideas and options are endless and it can really slow you down or stop you completely. Yet, we know some type of forethought and plan is best for success. I am a fan of doing whatever works for you. If you thrive on resolutions, do them, if you like traditional goal-setting - go for it. If you prefer to think out a few years and create an ideal vision, and then back into it, thats a good one also. To me it just has to work for you. That said, I have found there is something that is key no matter which way you decide to go.. Begin with your brilliance.. Tapping your brilliance means you need to take the time to determine what your most unique and powerful skill, talent or gift is-in what area you completely shine, and then really leverage it in as many areas of your life as you can.. Whether or not ...
Chunking allows the brain to efficiently organize memories and actions. Although basal ganglia circuits have been implicated in action chunking, little is known about how individual elements are concatenated into a behavioral sequence at the neural level. Using a task in which mice learned rapid action sequences, we uncovered neuronal activity encoding entire sequences as single actions in basal ganglia circuits. In addition to neurons with activity related to the start/stop activity signaling sequence parsing, we found neurons displaying inhibited or sustained activity throughout the execution of an entire sequence. This sustained activity covaried with the rate of execution of individual sequence elements, consistent with motor concatenation. Direct and indirect pathways of basal ganglia were concomitantly active during sequence initiation, but behaved differently during sequence performance, revealing a more complex functional organization of these circuits than previously postulated. These ...
Social neuroscience largely ignored the role of the cerebellum, despite its implications in a broad range of tasks and neurological disorders related to social functioning and inferences on others mental state such as beliefs. One hypothesis states that during human evolution, the cerebellums function evolved from a mere coordinator of fluent sequences of motions and actions, to an interpreter of action sequences without overt movements that are important for social understanding. The present study introduces new tasks to investigate the role of the cerebellum in sequencing, in which participants generated the correct chronological order of new or well-known event stories with or without social elements during functional neuroimaging (fMRI). Results showed strong cerebellar activation during order generation for all event types compared to passive viewing or reading events. More importantly, new social events involving true or false beliefs showed stronger activation in the bilateral posterior ...
Oakbrook Terrace, IL 60181. Dear Ms. Hoppe:. We are writing to express our concerns regarding the Joint Commissions Draft 2008 Patient Safety Goal on health care worker fatigue (Goal 18). Given the strength of the data on this issue, we simply cannot understand why the Joint Commissions draft is so weak and non-specific with respect to this well-documented cause of harm to patients in hospitals.. The growth of data establishing the dangers of fatigue for both patient and worker health is reflected in the expansion of the Joint Commission Rationale for this Goal from four lines in last years unadopted draft to 13 in the current draft. Yet, even this understates the significance of the rapidly accumulating scientific knowledge on the dangers of fatigue. The Institute of Medicine report To Err is Human has generated a veritable cottage industry of companies selling technological fixes for problems such as the use of interacting drugs. Most of these problems have twin characteristics: a. they ...

Department of Surgery, Section of Minimally Invasive Surgery, NorthShore University HealthSystem. INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this study was to determine whether a goal setting program integrated into a surgical training curriculum would improve performance on Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) testing and confidence with laparoscopic surgical skills.. METHODS: Beginning in 2013, medical students and general surgery residents at all levels of training were enrolled in the study and evaluated on the five FLS tasks at our center. Trainees were randomized to one of the following three goal-setting groups. Trainees were either given no time goals for each FLS task (No Goals), time goals that were the best time scores reported in the literature for each task (Expert) or the mean time scores reported for passing each task seen in the literature (Mean). By: Martin Grunburg. Change is a funny thing. In fact, one of the great constants (by definition, something that never changes) is, in fact, change.. The great thing about goals is they allow us, in this crazy and uncertain world, to direct some of the change. By doing this, goals provide a sense of purpose, direction and, yep, you guessed it, control.. What I didnt fully understand before is that a sense of control is linked to our general happiness. Thats right: The more we feel we have some sense of control, the better - and happier - we are likely to feel.. Simply by setting goals and taking action toward them, you will feel more in control, and that will make you feel better/happier about your life.. A Different Perspective on Goals?. Now, you may be somewhat confused if youve noticed some recent blog posts and even studies that suggest goal-setting can backfire, becoming self-defeating, disappointing, discouraging and even depressing.. Its important to put these ideas into ...
As some of you may know, Ive started an MSC in Applied Positive Psychology. As part of my reading I came across a very interesting piece of empirical research about goal setting. Of course, being a naive student I forget to footnote it! What was interesting about it was that the research found that the value from goal setting was not the motivating and rewarding element, but the actual process of sitting down and clarifying what was needed and that the most value to be had was from the least complex jobs in the organisation. This is contrary to most management doctrine and alot of management practice in organisations that focus on goal setting and performance management exclusively for the top jobs where there is more discretion to shape a role and impact on business performance. Apparently goal setting with less complex jobs provides the clarity that is often missing due to a lack of job description or management dialogue ...

When we are passionate about our plans, its easy for us to discipline ourselves to do whats required, in order to achieve the results we want. The challenge is that most businesspeople develop plans that fail to motivate them. Their plans lack the power required, to give them the inspiration to leave their comfort zones. Their business plans dont jump off the paper and motivate them to take action - so they remain plans.. The same is true of goal setting. People waste a fortune attending seminars and buying products to help them set and achieve goals; when the problem is usually that they simply need to set goals that inspire them and ignite their passion. The best goal-setting methodologies are worthless to us, if we use them to set goals that lack passion. Its the passion, that motivates us to take action and make things happen.. Heres what I have discovered: Your business plans and goals should be based around what YOU want to achieve. Its hard to be passionate by proxy! Many people set ...

BACKGROUND: Approximately 3% of people receiving opioid substitution therapy (OST) in the UK manage to achieve abstinence from prescribed and illicit drugs within three years of commencing treatment. Involvement of families and wider social networks in supporting psychological treatment may be an effective strategy in facilitating recovery, and this pilot study aimed to evaluate the impact of a social network-focused intervention for patients receiving OST. METHODS: A two-site, open feasibility trial randomised patients receiving OST for at least 12 months but still reporting illicit opiate use in the past 28 days to one of three treatments: 1) treatment as usual (TAU), 2) Brief Social Behaviour and Network Therapy (B-SBNT) + TAU, or 3) Personal Goal Setting (PGS) + TAU ...

Studies focused on position-related characteristics of young soccer players often ignore the goalkeepers. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of playing position on anthropometry, physiological attributes, soccer skills, and goal orientation across adolescence. One hundred forty-five soccer players age 11-19 y were assessed in training experience, body size, maturation, physiological parameters, soccer skills, and goal orientation. Factorial ANOVA was used to test the effect of age group, playing position, and respective interaction terms, while analysis of variance was used to compare goalkeepers vs outfielders in middle (under 13 [U-13] and U-15) and late (U-17 and U-19) adolescence. Discriminant analysis was used to identify the variables that contributed to explaining playing positions. Age group was a consistent source of variation for all variables except task and ego orientations. Fat mass, agility, endurance, dribbling speed, shooting accuracy, and passing were affected by ...
This is what my face looks like at the end of summer.. August is a lot of things. Easy is not one of them.. For my family, this has been a summer of setting, facing and meeting goals. My personal goal was to make sure every one of us got what each of us needed to be our best selves this summer, and a lot of that had to do with keeping a well-stocked fridge for hundreds of breakfasts, lunches, snacks and dinners on-the-go and after-hours. For my husband and me, that meant facilitating daily communication and logistics strategies for two busy teenagers sharing a car, coaching and navigating challenges related to time management, fitness management, sleep management, priority-setting and social development, and figuring out where a healthy marriage, and all that goes into it, fits in…. Weve met our goals, we feel accomplished, and we are utterly exhausted. For me, the end of summer brings relief: well go from being a household of three people doing unpredictable shift-based work (me being the ...

What Im getting at in this chapter is that an awful lot of goal-setting activity, in the corporate context or in our personal lives, is motivated mainly by a desire to get rid of unpleasant feelings of uncertainty. (A story earlier in the chapter explores the possibility that the climbers involved in the Mount Everest tragedy of 1996 might have become fixated on perilous goals for precisely this reason.) This is one facet of the books broader thesis -- that were so allergic to negative emotions and situations that we struggle hard to avoid them, often with counterproductive results: we end up even less happy, less successful, more insecure and more stressed. Thats my case against the culture of positive thinking and relentless optimism -- that all this trying so hard to be happy is making us miserable. But most of the book is concerned with exploring the more fruitful alternative: finding ways to embrace uncertainty, the experience of failure, insecurity, even our own mortality. Embracing ...
Light the World is a yearly Church emphasis at aChristmastime we love to support at Sugardoodle. In combination with the Churchs new goal-setting program for youth, we asked friend and fellow blogger Becky Squire to share a great printable and ideas with you.. The new Children and Youth program initiated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officially launched in January 2020, but it wasnt new to me. It focuses on four areas of life: Spiritual, Physical, Intellectual, and Social. And if you add one more, Emotional, you will have the framework that I grew up with.. My parents taught me to make goals in each of these areas of my life as a youth and even now as an adult. And I believe that as we and our children accept the prophets invitation, we will be able to #LightTheWorld around and within us. Just as Christ developed in all areas of His life, this program provides an outline for each of us.. ...
The study, based on an analysis of the 2015 National Health and Aging Trends Study, found that among the approximately eight million Medicare beneficiaries who received rehabilitation in 2015, 72 percent reported functional improvement following physical, occupational or speech-language therapy rehabilitation. Approximately 75 percent reported meeting their personal goals by discharge. Overall, only 20 percent of older adults reported rehabilitation use in the past year. Use was 20 percent lower among Black non-Hispanics compared to White non-Hispanics and higher among those with more education. The article, Rehabilitation Services Use and Patient Reported Outcomes Among Older Adults in the United States, also shows that rehabilitation use was highest among seniors with chronic medical conditions, pain, history of falls and severe limitations in physical performance. Understanding rehabilitation services use is essential to plan for sufficient resources for the projected doubling of the older ...

As we know, theres no proven MS diet - nothing that has been tested on a large group of individuals with MS and found to have significant and measurable results. But we do have an understanding of which foods are better and which are worse for most people when it comes to keeping organs healthy and working optimally.. Minimizing processed foods and keeping an eye on your intake of saturated fats are good dietary habits to adopt. While the jury is still out on the harm that saturated fats may do, at this time it makes sense to keep them to a minimum. Including plants in most meals has been shown to promote good health and even contribute to disease prevention.. Remember that your body is different from your neighbors body, and will respond to food in its own unique way. We all have our own personal goals when it comes to diet - weight loss, muscle gain, health maintenance, getting an energy boost - and your food choices can help you realize those goals in a way thats right for you.. Does it ...

Another example is those who are diabetic and try the diet. The Keto diet already requires people to cut out refined sugars and excess carbs-two factors that diabetics are recommended to avoid due the risk of increasing already high blood sugar. Therefore, someone with diabetes may try Keto with the goal of managing their blood sugar levels. Keeping personal goals other than weight loss in mind when making such a drastic change in diet or lifestyle is important. The desire to only follow the Ketogenic diet for rapid weight loss may not be the best reason to try it if there isnt much weight to lose. ...

Not sure how your email marketing campaigns are doing? The first metric to check is your open rate - that is, how many of your subscribers actually opened the email you sent. Open rates go on to determine click rates, conversion rates, and the overall performance of an entire email-marketing program. Open rates are also a great way to measure subscriber engagement. While one message may do unusually well or unusually poorly, an email marketing programs overall open rate is a key indicator of health.. So, what constitutes a good open rate? There are a few places where you can check out industry standards; such as, this chart by Constant Contact. Otherwise, it will largely be all about personal goals. If you had a 7% open rate for your last campaign, then your next goal would be to rise above that.. If youve sent many campaigns, and your open rate is still failing to rise, it can be pretty disappointing. Perhaps you created special images for them, and added some quality content, only for no ...

Mild Alzheimers dementia (AD) cases are with 15 millions worldwide the largest fraction of all AD cases. Most patients are cared for by their family at home. Neuropsychiatric symptoms are very common in AD, even as early as in mild AD: About 90% of all mild AD cases experience neuropsychiatric symptoms, most frequently depression, anxiety, and irritability. These symptoms are associated with greater morbidity, reduced quality of life for the patient, increased burden and depression for the caregiver, higher costs of care, and nursing home placement. Thus, interventions aimed at treating these symptoms could have a tremendous effect on pa-tients, caregivers, and society.. This study is a randomized, controlled trial (RCT) evaluating a comprehensive CBT-based, multi-component treatment programme consisting of eight modules (diagnosis and goal-setting; psycho-education; engagement in pleasant activities; cognitive restructuring; life review; training caregiver in behavior management techniques; ...

This study is devoted to assessing the possibilities of financial support for achieving strategic guidelines in the development of science and technology. The article analyzes the dynamics and structure of one of the most common indicators that make it possible to assess the countrys scientific and technological development - an indicator of research and development domestic expenditure. The transformation of the goal-setting that has been carried out in relation to the development of science within the framework of strategic planning has been revealed - a shift in emphasis from the quantitative determination of established absolute values to relative values, which allows us to evaluate not only the dynamics, but also the structural changes in the observed phenomenon. The impossibility of achieving the established values of one of the main strategic indicators of the development of science in the conditions of preserving the existing trends of its financing is shown.. ...
We present a model of two BGTC loops which exploits this inter-loop connectivity to integrate several types of information required for the production of goal directed action sequences. An associative loop comprising prefrontal cortex (PFC) and its corresponding regions of BG receives information regarding the current goal. By integrating this with stored knowledge of a relevant goal directed action sequence, the loop forms a unique, self-sustaining representation of the temporal task context which indicates the current stage in the ongoing task. A lower motor loop is responsible for action selection based on affordance information regarding the objects in the environment available to it. Processing in this loop is influenced by the contextual representation in PFC via corticostriatal connectivity linking the two loops. Under reinforcement learning, these projections adopt the appropriate connectivity to successfully bias contextually appropriate action selection in the motor loop. Changes ...

Theres nothing like a crisp new calendar to hang on your kitchen or office wall to fill you with anticipation for the year to come. The entire upcoming year, like the calendar, is ready for you to fill it with new goals, resolutions and dreams. You probably have fitness goals, personal goals, professional goals, and health goals on your list of New Years Resolutions, and now is the time to put those good intentions into action.. When it comes to health goals, it may be time to look at your medicine cabinet and analyze some of the over-the-counter medication you have been taking in the past year. If you have heartburn and reflux, also known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), you may have been treating your symptoms with proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). PPIs are the most commonly prescribed class of medication for the treatment of heartburn and acid-related disorders. Quite simply, PPIs reduce the amount of acid in your stomach by blocking the acid-producing glands in the stomach. Reduced ...

TY - JOUR. T1 - Effects of altered transport paths and intermediate movement goals on human grasp kinematics. AU - Hesse, C.. AU - Deubel, H.. PY - 2010/2. Y1 - 2010/2. N2 - It has been observed that grip opening is delayed when participants are asked to execute complex grasping movements, such as passing over an obstacle or a via-position (Haggard and Wing 1998; Alberts et al. 2002). This finding was proposed to indicate a shift toward sequential performance, meaning that complex movements are carried out in independent motor steps. In our experiments we investigated which aspects of a grasping task determine whether a movement is executed holistically or sequentially. Therefore, participants had to perform different types of curved movements in order to reach and grasp a target object. When only the complexity of the transport paths was varied, no indication of sequential movement execution was found. However, when participants additionally had to either stop at, or pass over a certain ...
Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) consists of a constellation of symptoms (including voiding, storage, and post-micturition). The impact of the LUTS on patients health-related quality of life is substantial and multifaceted. Thus, the therapies aimed at treating BPH are concerned primarily with improving patients symptoms, thereby improving quality of life. When multiple symptoms are present, the level of bother associated with individual symptoms varies and patients prioritize their treatment goals for symptom relief. A measure that addresses patients most bothersome symptoms (MBS) and evaluation of symptom-specific goal achievements may lead to improved outcomes and patient satisfaction to the treatment. The objectives of this study were (1) to assess patient-reported MBS and symptom-specific goal achievements (PGA) with medical treatment in BPH patients, and (2) to identify factors that influence or have relation to the PGA ...

Overview In September 2000, 189 countries signed the United Nations Millennium Declaration [A/RES/55/2], committing themselves to eradicating extreme poverty in all its forms by 2015. About the Millennium Development Goals The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) include 8 goals, 21 targets and 60 indicators for measuring progress between 1990 and 2015, when the goals are expected to be met. The table below lists the goals, targets and indicators included in the MDGs. Key documents and links related to the MDGs may be found at the UN Statistics Division - Millennium Development Goals Indicators website. Though extremely popular, weight loss apps may not really deliver the kinds of help proven to be most effective in shedding pounds and keeping them off. This was the conclusion of a study published in the October, 2013 issues of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.. The study evaluated 30 weight loss apps listed in the top 100 downloaded apps in both iPhone and Android platforms by rating each app in terms of the number of behavioral weight-loss strategies offered. The behavioral strategies were drawn from the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP), which the studys authors describe as evidence-based lifestyle interventions. These interventions include behavioral strategies ranging from the establishment of a weight loss goal to stress reduction, overcoming negative thinking, identification of problem social cues, and time management.. The results? No app made the cut in terms of including a wide range of behavioral strategies. Although most apps included weight and dietary goal-setting, ...

Besides the benefits to society, scientific studies have shown that individuals who volunteer enjoy psychological and physical benefits,[13] including increased satisfaction, improved sense of belonging, lower blood pressure, increased protection from Alzheimers, and decreased mortality.[14] It is estimated that in Canada 13 million people, or half the adult population, volunteer some of their time.[15] Volunteer work can also be used to leverage valuable experiences where work experience is lacking, or to build on an area of interest and expertise when writing a resume for work or applying to schools. [16] [17] Selecting a volunteer position should be handled with careful thought as to your personal interests, areas of community you wish to impact, and to what end. Having clear goals for your time and service will better inform the value of your volunteer efforts as it relates to your personal goals and interests. [18] Benefits of volunteer work are enjoyed by the community effected, but also ...

Interval training (periods of high intensity exercise followed by periods of low intensity exercise) has been known to be a notably beneficial form of cardiovascular exercise for quite some time. Besides curbing boredom during your workout, interval training can propel many of your fitness goals into high gear.. 1. Increase Endurance. There is no set time schedule in interval training. You can formulate your plan by using longer periods of high intensity exercise with shorter periods of rest, or vice versa. This component to this form of training is beneficial in itself, allowing you to customize your workout to best serve your personal goals. For example, short and intense intervals interspersed with short rest periods would be of great use to sprinters, as this forces your body to tap into your glycogen stores for immediate energy. In contrast, longer, lower intensity intervals with short rest periods may be utilized for developing endurance.. 2. Rev Your Fat Loss. While its gratifying to see ...

Recognizing a major gap in perioperative resident education, he devised the Educational Time-Out to formalize preoperative goal-setting during the surgical time-out and to provide feedback using the SIMPL app. He created the Vanderbilt-American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) Transplant and Hepatobiliary Surgery Fellowship which offers a 2-year fellowship as well as an internal track combining residency and fellowship into 6 clinical years. Given the rising tide of burnout among healthcare providers, he founded the Vanderbilt Resilience Rapid Response Team, a team of residents and faculty specially trained to facilitate early recognition and support. A sought-after educator in transplantation, he has lectured for over a decade in Vanderbilt Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Management. For his efforts in surgical education, he was elected to membership in AOA in 2014 and received ...

In this fascinating little book (201 pages, including references and a subject index), Mick Power communicates no such tinge of agnosticism when proclaiming in the preface of Adieu to God: Why Psychology Leads to Atheismthat my belief is that psychology (with help from philosophy, anthropology, sociology, physics, biology . . .) offers a far more powerful explanation than any religious system ever will (p.x). (PsycCRITIQUES, 1 June 2013). His final chapter summarises the argument and proposes how one might be a healthy atheist with a sense of meaning and purpose, a sense of belonging and community and a set of personal goals and values. He does not forecast the disappearance of religions but proposes how they can be explained in terms of psychology and sociology. (The Scientific & Medical Network, 1 April 2012). ...
Achievement of the personal goal of escaping from North Korea must constitute a main contributor to successful adaptation in South Korea. This study did not question subjects about their motives for escaping from North Korea. However, participants tended to be characterized by low socioeconomic status, urban residence, unmarried status, high school educations, and no history of army service; 7% of individuals leaving North Korea identified with religion and 43% left without family members. After settling in South Korea, 42.6% of respondents remained unmarried, 88.0% lived in urban areas, 68.7% had low monthly incomes (less than a million won per month), 72.5% were in a low socioeconomic group, and 29.7% were unemployed. The data pertaining to before and after escaping might not have shown subjective or objective improvements in socioeconomic status, but we could not confirm this possibility with statistical analyses. In other words, the socioeconomic status of defectors did not improve. The ...

Sayaka Kudo is a gyaru who wears miniskirts and dyes her hair blonde. Although she is a second year senior high school student, she is on par academically to 4th grade elementary school students. She frequently transferred schools because she was unable to make friends. Eventually she attends a private all-girls high school where she plays and enjoys her extra-scholarly activities while skipping study altogether- here, she is caught and suspended for carrying cigarettes. To prepare her for her university entrance examination, her mother sends her to Seiho Cram School. When her tutor, Yoshitaka Tsubota, hears about Sayakas academic problems, he makes it his personal goal to help her enter the university of her choice - Keio University (considered one of the most prestigious and difficult to enter universities in Japan) - and to get back at her father. Her father (who aims to get her brother Ryuta into pro baseball despite the latters reluctance) labels her as an air-head and says she and ...
Self-monitoring is the use of sensors or tools which are readily available to the general public to track and record personal data. The sensors are usually wearable devices and the tools are digitally available through mobile device applications. Self-monitoring devices were created for the purpose of allowing personal data to be instantly available to the individual to be analyzed. As of now, fitness and health monitoring are the most popular applications for self-monitoring devices.[45] The biggest benefit to self-monitoring devices is the elimination of the necessity for third party hospitals to run tests, which are both expensive and lengthy. These devices are an important advancement in the field of personal health management. Self-monitoring healthcare devices exist in many forms. An example is the Nike+ FuelBand, which is a modified version of the original pedometer.[45] This device is wearable on the wrist and allows one to set a personal goal for a daily energy burn. It records the ...

Since January, six iReporters have been training in the Fit Nation Triathlon Challenge. Were following along as they prepare to compete alongside Dr. Sanjay Gupta in the August 7 Nautica NYC Triathlon. During their last week before the race, we asked each of them the following questions: Whats the biggest change youve seen in yourself since kickoff weekend? What are your personal goals for the tri? This weekend, Sanjay Gupta, M.D. will be live from New York at 7:30 a.m. ET Saturday and Sunday. Watch the culmination of our teams training. A couple of years ago, I was worried I had become too complacent and full of too many excuses. A bowl of ice cream was justified almost every day. Hadnt my day been so busy? A little treat was warranted. Exercise was always the first thing to fall off the map with a busy work life and a house full of three small children. Tomorrow will come, and I will make a change, I kept telling myself. Problem is - the tomorrows always came, without fail. And, the ...

So this weeks writing prompt at Mama Kats is to write about the seven wonders of your life. Ive been to a handful of other countries, but I really feel like some of the sights Ive seen traveling my own country have been just as marvelous as anywhere else (course, I havent been to Europe...yet!). So I decided I would focus on sights from America only when I picked my seven. One of my personal goals is to one day visit all 50 states. Ive hit the majority of them, but I still need to visit Hawaii, Alaska, Washington, Minnesota, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and North Dakota ...

The world is a dark, brooding place populated by humans, but ruled in reality by powerful beings known as the Darkstalkers, and there is constant conflict between them as they try to determine who is the most powerful of them all. Zombies, vampires, werewolves - all of them compete in contests of strength and sheer will to attain their own personal goals. All of this becomes moot when a race of Aztec robots called the Huitzil decide that humanity isnt worth saving, and start waging war on the world, while in the sky, a solar god from outer space plots the conquest of Earth. And the Darkstalkers must become unwilling allies in order to save the world. ...
I am a novice cook and even more novice baker. I am messy in the kitchen and I LIKE IT! Ryan doesnt however. Ryan is a wonderful baker-- he makes half a dozen loaves of bread in and evening and is very clean and efficient. I admire his talent. I want to become a better cook/baker also, so I can feed my family good food too. So, I made it a personal goal to try to make something out of Ryans mothers cookbook, or something completely new I have never even considered making. Doing this at least once a week on my days off-- if I am home. Last week we were gone so that didnt pan out well, but other than that I have tried to make quite a few things already, and most of them I was completely and pleasantly surprised at the turnout. Here are the things I have tried ...
Review: The conclusion to the initial Apocalypse storyline doesnt have the impact of the previous episode, largely because the intricate plotting has been replaced with extensive action scenes. This is a kid-friendly action cartoon, so that makes sense, although I think the action sequences are rarely a highlight of the series. Bruce Timm for years dismissed the idea of doing a Justice League cartoon, citing the difficulty of choreographing elaborate action sequences as the main reason (and listing X-Men as an example of how he wouldnt do them). Unfortunately, the fight scenes in this episode do grow tiresome, even though I think the initial battle in Paris is pretty effective. Looking past the action, the TV audience is introduced to Archangel (Whose name is nonsensical at this point; how can he be an Archangel and the Horseman of Death simultaneously?), and even if he doesnt go on to join the X-Men, maybe Toy Biz was able to sell some of his old action figures. Archangels story is ...
Neurophysiology and neuroimaging evidence shows that the brain represents multiple environmental and body-related features to compute transformations from sensory input to motor output. However, it is unclear how these features interact during goal-directed movement. To investigate this issue, we examined the representations of sensory and motor features of human hand movements within the left-hemisphere motor network. In a rapid event-related fMRI design, we measured cortical activity as participants performed right-handed movements at the wrist, with either of two postures and two amplitudes, to move a cursor to targets at different locations. Using a multivoxel analysis technique with rigorous generalization tests, we reliably distinguished representations of task-related features (primarily target location, movement direction, and posture) in multiple regions. In particular, we identified an interaction between target location and movement direction in the superior parietal lobule, which may ...
Module B: Chapter Development Session 1: Goal Setting *UPDATED*. Everyone talks about goal setting but people rarely understand how to correctly set goals as a group and create objectives to meet their goals. This session will focus on goal setting and how it can be used as a powerful tool in your chapter. Participants will learn about steps in goal setting and engage in a number of goal setting activities for the chapter. Session 2: Delegation *UPDATED*. This session will focus on delegation and how to be an effective committee member and manager. Too often, people are hesitant to delegate because they are afraid that projects wont get completed. By using the steps in this workshop, youll be prepared for success and in the process, will begin developing others in your chapter. Session 3: Effective Meetings *UPDATED*. This session will focus on both the role of the meeting organizer and the participant and how to partner together to get results. Participants will learn about how to prepare an ...
