Geotrichum candidum lipase III: catalyzes hydrolysis of 2-position ester bonds of triglycerides; isolated from Geotrichum candidum
The usual chronological order is as follows: (1) the capitatum, (2) the hamatum, (3) the triquetrum, (4) the lunatum, (5) the navicular, (6) the lesser multangular, (7) the greater multangular and (8) the pisiform. In two hundred and twenty-nine subjects the capitatum occupied the first position in two hundred and twenty-five cases, and the second position in four cases only. The hamatum was four times in the first position and two hundred and twenty- five times in the second. The triquetrum is in the third position in which it was found in two hundred and eleven cases, and in the fourth position in ten cases. It is never displaced from this, its normal position, by other bones except by the lunatum. The position of the lunatum is fourth and it was thus found in one hundred and fifty-eight out of one hundred and eighty-six cases. The navicular occupies the fifth position in which it was found in sixty-eight out of one hundred and eleven cases. The lesser multangular occupies the sixth position ...

I have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, Im participating in a sports endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Societys (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkins disease and myeloma. Im improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support, we can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.. Our honored teammate is Char Nielsen. Char is a survivor of Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. Char had no family history of cancer, nor did she smoke or drink. At the time she was diagnosed, Char had a 3 year old son who needed his mommy. Thankfully treatments such as chemo and radiation helped Char to fight through this horrible disease, and she has now been cancer free for four years! In addition to Char, I will also be running in honor of a young man who died at the ...
Non Hodgkins Lymphoma (NHL) is a cancer that starts in a lymph node and spreads to other areas of the body through the lymphatic system and the blood vessels. Prior to the AIDS epidemic, NHL generally effected older individuals (average age 67), however the incidence of NHL has increased substantially in younger persons since the beginning of the AIDS epidemic. Lesions (abnormalities) like those in the image above, especially in a younger person, may be the first indication that a patient has HIV, although it is usually accompanied by a generalized lymphadenopathy (swelling of lymph nodes all over the body).. Oral lymphoma can happen any place in the oral cavity. It most often begins as a non specific swelling of the oral tissues in a localized area. The image above shows an advanced lesion. The image below is of the same patient at an earlier stage in the disease. This image is more realistic because it shows the more nondescript presentation of a lymphoma in an edentulous palate.. It is not ...
This journal is for what is going on currently, today, in my and Johns life. And my feelings. But for a couple of entries I wanted to share with you some recent events that led up to where we are now, just so everyone will have a little background. Bear with me as I do so. It is part of the story. John was diagnosed with MDS on June 16, 2005. We will never forget those dreaded words as they came out of the oncologists mouth. You have Myelodysplasia. But let me back up for a minute. I am leaving part of the story out.. About a year before the diagnosis of MDS, John was getting a routine blood test. He was constantly getting these tests as part of follow up for the Non Hodgkins Lymphoma he used to have. The test showed anemia. John wasnt surprised. He had felt so tired and run down for so long. As the months wore on, the oncologist did more tests, and told him that he still had anemia.. Meanwhile, in December of 2004, John proposed to me. We were on cloud nine. With the help of my parents, ...
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are endogenously encoded RNAs that regulate the stability or translation of mRNA molecules, and emerging research suggests that they have diverse roles in normal physiology and disease. In this issue, two groups investigated the role of the predominant liver miRNA, miR-122. Ann-Ping Tsou and colleagues from National Yang-Ming University in Taiwan, and a team led by Kalpana Ghoshal, from Ohio State University generated mouse models of MiR-122 loss of function, and determined that the molecule was critically involved in modulating fat and cholesterol metabolism, and may also have a tumor suppressive function in hepatocytes. In the accompanying commentary, Jessica Wen and Joshua Friedman of the University of Pennsylvania discuss these findings, and suggest the possibility that miR-122 might be a promising therapeutic target in hepatocellular carcinoma.. ---. Hi your experience sounds very similar to mine. I was diagnosed with blood cancer, in case myeloma, in may 2018 and at the same time with hypothyroidism. Immediately I had thyroid inflammation and asked for a scan which revealed s nodule which the radiologist thought was suspicious although FNA was inconclusive. As I needed treatment for myeloma, including a stem cell transplant, I wasnt able to have the thyroid dealt with until July this year when I had s hemithyroidectomy. The biopsy revealed the nodule had been a small encapsulated papillary carcinoma and the inflammation Hashimotos. A mutation of the gene BRAF 600e, which generally causes melanoma, is implicated in some papillary thyroid cancers and in some blood cancers, esp non Hodgkins lymphoma, but also in 4% of myelomas. I suspect that I have this mutation ( my brother, father & aunt have had potentially BRAF mutation related cancers too). I am trying to be tested at the moment, if not on NHS then privately, as this could have ...

LGL - large granular lymphocytic leukemia - is another very low grade lymphoma, which presents with cytopenia such as low Hb, or wbc or both. They have no enlarged nodes or spleen. Diagnosis is made by calculating increased number of LGLs (large granular lymphocytes - normally a very small fraction of lymphocytes) in blood, under microscope. More recently, their number can be measured by flow cytometry as well. They are treated with low doses of methotrexate and low dose prednisone in most cases.. Dr. Chirag A. According to the shape of the valves, the arrangement of the valve striae and the type of sexual reproduction, the diatoms are divided in centric diatoms and pennate diatoms. The two valves or only one of most of the pennate diatoms have a longitudinal slit, the raphe, interrupted in the middle by a bridge of silica. This raphe is either simple or as a complex structure, the raphe-canal, the interior of which is divided by bridges of silica named the fibulae ...
Yeasts are traditionally used as part of the surface microflora in surface-ripened cheeses, where they contribute positively to the flavour of the cheese. The primary objective of this study was to investigate the potential of three dairy yeasts to provide attributes as adjuncts in anaerobically ripened cheeses. Geotrichum candidum (B9001), Yarrowia lipolytica (B9014) and Candida kefyr (B9006), obtained from the Fonterra Co-operative Group Ltd, Palmerston North, New Zealand, were studied. They showed diverse metabolic activities in laboratory media, which were influenced by the growth conditions. The metabolic activities of special interest were the lipase and proteinase activities and the production of volatile compounds, as these are important for cheese ripening and flavour development. Lipase activity (p-nitrophenyl butyrate assay) and proteinase activity (fluorescein isothiocyanate β-casein assay) were determined in three fractions prepared from yeast cultures and designated as ...

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) remains largely incurable despite advances that have been made in recent years into increasing the complete response (CR) rates. In elderly patients (over the age of 60), CR rates are lower, 40 to 50%, and long term disease-free and overall survival is less than 10%. The therapeutic options for relapsed/refractory AML are significantly limited. Bortezomib has shown promising activity in patients with advanced hematologic malignancies, including those with leukemia and non-Hodgkins lymphoma.. Given the available data suggesting efficacy of bortezomib in combination with doxil in patients with relapsed multiple myeloma (MM), chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), and Non Hodgkins lymphoma (NHL) as well as the known sensitivity of AML to anthracyclines and in vitro data demonstrating the sensitivity of multiply resistant AML cells to bortezomib, we are proposing the use of this combination in patients with relapsed/refractory AML or elderly patients who are not ...

It seems likely that Cypripedium candidum was actually a common species on the prairies of southern and western Minnesota before the advent of large-scale agriculture in the late 19th century. Since that time it has declined in proportion to the decline in its prairie habitat, a loss estimated at greater than 95%. This loss is quite apparent and dramatic when driving through the prairie region of the state and seeing mile upon mile of corn fields where once there was prairie. Botanical surveys of remnant prairie habitats in Minnesota since 1980 have located and documented nearly 200 occurrences of C. candidum, which makes Minnesota the stronghold of this species. In fact, Minnesota probably has more plants than all other states and Canadian provinces combined. And yet, the species in Minnesota has experienced a 95%+ population decline; a trend which continues today. Since 1980, C. candidum has disappeared from many of the smaller sites where it had previously been documented. These smaller ...
Lipase production by Geotrichum candidum NRRL Y‐552 was studied using an alternative nitrogen source, yeast hydrolysate (Prodex‐lac®), and soybean oil as the carbon source and inducer of lipase production. Factorial design and response surface methodologies were applied to obtain optimized conditions for lipase production in shaken flasks, defined as: 3.5 g/100 mL of yeast hydrolysate and 0.7 g/100 mL of soybean oil with an initial pH of 7.0 at 30 °C and 250 rpm. The resulting lipase activity after 48 h was 24.3 U/mL (0.506 U/mL.h), 52 % higher than with peptone under the same conditions (U = the amount of enzyme required to liberate 1 µmol of fatty acid per minute). Lipase production with the optimized medium was conducted in a stirred tank reactor and in an airlift bioreactor, both at 30 °C and 300 rpm; the best results obtained were 15.4 U/mL after 32 h of fermentation (0.481 U/mL.h) and 19.24 U/mL after 32 h of fermentation (0.601 U/mL.h) at 1 vvm, respectively. The results presented ...

Numerical information with respect to spindle microtubules in serial sections of 3 cells at metaphase of the first meiotic division has been compiled and illustrated sufficiently to supplement the previous accounts with respect to both longitudinal and transverse views. At the equator the microtubules of the spindle are united laterally into bundles, the number of bundles being of the same order as that encountered at a premeiotic mitosis, though there is slight variation from cell to cell. The number of microtubules is greater than that at mitosis in a normal spermatogonium, though the distribution in different parts of the spindle is qualitatively similar. Stages of anaphase have been illustrated for the first time and shown to involve at least types of physical forces mediating chromosome movements of various kinds. The later stages of cytokinesis have been timed and are illustrated from living cells and from sections. The relation of the spindle to the cord which unites the separating ...
