Gender identity disorders as a symptom of psychosis, schizophrenia in particular | Transgender Library and Information
Abstract [Full Text] [PDF]. Abstract [Article in Dutch]. In the Netherlands it has recently become possible for transsexual patients to receive hormonal treatment from the onset of puberty. Until the age of 16, pubertal development can be prevented with luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) agonists. From 16 years of age onwards, gender adjustment can be initiated by administration of hormones of the opposite sex. Surgical treatment can be offered once the patient reaches 18 years of age.. Although such treatment will only be initiated with reticence and after a long phase of intense diagnostic screening, the question arises whether a clear differentiation can be made between pure gender identity disorders and secondary transsexual feelings that are part of an ongoing psychopathological development, such as schizophrenia.. The potential diagnostic confusion is illustrated by a case history of a male schizophrenic patient. This patient had been treated hormonally for transsexualism for ...

It is the first time that a statement condemning abuses against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people has been presented in the United Nations General Assembly. In December 2008, 66 countries at the Assembly supported a groundbreaking statement confirming that international human rights protections include sexual orientation and gender identity. The participating countries urged all nations to promote and protect human rights of all persons, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity and to end all criminal penalties against people because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Despite of this fact, according to calculations by ILGA (the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Association) and other organizations, more than six dozen countries still have laws against consensual sex between adults of the same sex. The majority of these laws were left behind by colonial rulers (Read the report This Alien Legacy: The Origins of Sodomy Laws in ...
Pacific Center for Sex and Society - Ethical Concerns Related to Treating Gender Nonconformity in Childhood and Adolescence:...
The November 2006 editorial about treatment of children born with ambiguous genitalia proceeds from a problematic premise, and goes on to imbue questions about elective genitoplasty with a rhetoric of optimism that could be misleading to distraught parents.. Dr. Rivkees argues that surgical gender reversal no longer occurs because 46,XX infants with CAH are typically assigned as female regardless of virilization, and 46,XY infants with testes and microphallus are typically assigned as male. However, gender identity development in children born with atypical genitalia is poorly understood1. It is certain that neither chromosomes nor gonads decisively determine gender. Patients with complete or partial androgen insensitivity syndrome (AIS), for example, commonly develop a female gender identity; but not always2. Parents who are considering irreversibly altering their childs genitals need to understand this uncertainty in order to make an informed decision. Whether or not gender assignment ...
Transgender no longer a mental disorder in diagnostic manual | FOX31 Denver
CNN) - The American Psychiatric Association announced this month approved changes in its official guide to classifying mental illnesses.. Among the major announced changes to the manual, known as DSM-5, is that Aspergers syndrome will now be included in the diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder to help more accurately and consistently diagnose children with autism, the association said in a statement.. But the group made another big change that did not make as many headlines, though it is considered by many to be important.. The new DSM eliminates the term gender identity disorder, long considered stigmatizing by mental health specialists and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender activists.. That old diagnosis meant that a man who believed he was destined to be a woman was considered mentally ill.. No longer so.. The new DSM refers to gender dysphoria, which focuses the attention on only those who feel distressed by their gender identity.. I think its a significant change, said Jack ...
Transsexualism : An Unacknowledged Endpoint of Developmental Endocrine Disruption?
this observation raises questions about the validity of existing methods of assessment for studying questions of gender identity development in general. This problem is particularly relevant for offspring of mothers prescribed DES during their pregnancy, since no studies have been performed that specifically asked about changes in gender identity due to these known prenatal exposures to an estrogenic substance.…. … The first study was a cohort study of men and women exposed in utero to DES; the study collected demographic data including: age, education, and ethnicity, and psychosexual characteristics including: handedness, sex partner choice, marital status, age at first intercourse, and number of partners.. Interestingly, one finding that reached statistical significance was that DES sons had a higher frequency of left-handedness, which the authors associated with complications during pregnancy; other authors have found that transsexuals also have a higher frequency of left-handedness, ...

Majority says transgender athletes should play on teams that match sex assigned at birth: poll - The Conservative Circle
New polling data released by Gallup on Tuesday found that a majority of Americans believe transgender athletes should play on sports teams that match the sex they were assigned at birth.. According to Gallups survey, 62 percent of Americans believe trans athletes should only be permitted to play on teams that align with their sex assigned at birth, while 34 percent said they should be allowed to play on teams matching their gender identity.. Democrats were the only subgroup in the survey in which a majority said trans athletes should be able to play on teams matching their gender identity.. The Gallup survey also found that support for allowing transgender people to serve in the U.S. military had dropped in recent years, though a majority - 66 percent - were still in favor of allowing them to serve. In 2019, 71 percent were in favor of allowing transgender men and women to serve in the military.. ……... ...
Omaha Employers: LGBT Ordinance Effective March 30 | News and Publications | Kutak Rock
On Tuesday, March 13, 2012, the Omaha City Council narrowly passed an amendment to the current equal employment opportunity ordinances prohibiting employers, employment agencies and labor organizations in the City of Omaha from discriminating against an individual on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. The new ordinance also requires the City include an equal employment opportunity clause containing the new protected classes in every contract into which the City enters.. Under the definitions contained in the new ordinance, sexual orientation means actual or perceived heterosexuality, homosexuality or bisexuality. The ordinance defines gender identity as the actual or perceived appearance, expression, identity or behavior of a person as being male or female, whether or not that appearance expression, identity or behavior is different from that traditionally associated with the persons designated sex at birth.. The Citys Human Rights and Relations Director is charged with ...

Hi, everybody (kudos if you read that as Dr. Nick). Unless you live under a rock, you know that the North Carolina General Assembly recently passed a law that, among other things, prevents people who are transgender from using the bathroom that best fits their gender identity. Since Ive written about this over on my own blog (The Progressive Redneck), Jasmin asked me to put together a few words on the law and what it means for our little community here at Love Wins.. I suppose the best place to start would be a definition of transgender. According to GLAAD, it is an umbrella term for people whose gender identity and/or gender expression differs from what is typically associated with the sex they were assigned at birth. Basically, these are the folks we used to refer to as transsexual (not to mention other more derogatory terms). Transgender is often confused with cross-dresser or transvestite, but thats not correct. People who cross-dress tend to do so for sexual or emotional ...
Allowing the gender on birth certificates to be changed/hidden will cause absolute chaos, page 2
No, it is not. Its usually what your X and Y chromosomes say it is. Gender identity is the product of nurture. Gender dysphoria is caused by hormonal imbalance in the foetus caused mostly by stress in the mother. You have no choice whether you feel male or female. There is no point in stating your gender identity on a birth certificate, which should record only scientific facts, not subjective feelings that might alter in a few years time. The fact that states in the USA have allowed gender preference to be added to a birth certificate is neither here nor there. In America particularly, politics has degenerated into identity politics and such changes have been made for the sake of political correctness, often by politicians wishing to attract the vote of these identity groups. Pointing out that America has allowed these changes already on birth certificates really does not put the issue to rest. It merely begs the question whether it was ever a good idea in the first place ...

His description sounds all noble and great until it is discovered that the kids will be encouraged to change their sexual orientation and even be supported along the way. He wants to see that kids know the difference and meaning of sex assigned at birth and gender identity and explain how they may or may not differ.. Cory will make it his mission to see that by the time every kid reaches the fourth grade, he will have been polluted enough to change their gender a dozen times before adulthood. So does gender identity constitute a disability? Absolutely not. However, Judge Leesons ruling recognized a clear distinction between gender identity and gender dysphoria-the distress created by the differences between a transgender persons gender and the gender they were assigned at birth. Lets take a look at the facts of the case to figure out how he got there.. The case involves one Kate Lynn Blatt suing Cabelas Retail, her former employer, for firing her based on her diagnosed gender dysphoria. Ms. Blatt was not allowed to dress and act as woman while working for Cabelas. This became a point of contention between her and her employer. Under the ADA, an employer is required to provide reasonable accommodations to a disabled employee. However, Cabelas refused to let Ms. Blatt dress as a woman and allegedly eventually fired her over it. This led to Ms. Blatts ADA retaliation claim. A retaliation claim requires her to show that she engaged in protected activity under the ADA and that ...

Ramazanoglu: Feminist
Methodology
As the number of publications on feminist epistemology, methodology and research methods has declined since the early nineties, this book represents a welcome and timely addition to recent debates. One major debate has been whether we can, and indeed should, identify a distinct feminist methodology. The authors clearly argue for feminist methodology (as the title of the book suggests) as a unique set of approaches to research bound up with the feminist political agenda. However they also point out the diverse nature of feminist contributions to knowledge production, and the disputes that have arisen from both within and outside feminist circles (hence the sub-title, Challenges and Choices). In this way, the authors attempt to draw together the contemporary debates in order to disentangle the methodological confusion. Their introductory chapter is particularly successful in this regard, and the book is likely to be useful to students and those seeking to obtain a broad understanding of feminist ...

The Realistic Observer: Gender Ideology Harms Children And Creates Problems Where None Existed
3. A persons belief that he or she is something they are not is, at best, a sign of confused thinking. When an otherwise healthy biological boy believes he is a girl, or an otherwise healthy biological girl believes she is a boy, an objective psychological problem exists that lies in the mind not the body, and it should be treated as such. These children suffer from gender dysphoria. Gender dysphoria (GD), formerly listed as Gender Identity Disorder (GID), is a recognized mental disorder in the most recent edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association (DSM-V). The psychodynamic and social learning theories of GD/GID have never been disproved ...

Sexual and Gender Identity Disorders
Gender identity disorder is generally called transexuallism. Transvestism refers to the practice of obtaining sexual pleasure by dressing in the clothes of the opposite sex. Today the term cross-dressing is more commonly used because it does not allow for a mistake of transsexualism, which is a complete gender change from the original sex. Transvestism is a paraphilia for which the essential feature is intense sexual urges and sexually arousing fantasies involving dressing in clothing of those of the opposite sex. It is extremely important to note that just because an individual is classified as a transvestite does not mean that they are necessarily homosexual. Extensive studies have been conducted to show that transvestites are not homosexual in many documented cases. Many psychiatric concepts have been used to try and explain why transvestism is prominent in certain individuals, such as the constitutional predisposition of unknown origin known as degeneration. Degeneration referred to an ...

Congenital adrenal hyperplasia due to 21-hydroxylase deficiency - Wikipedia
There are no difficulties assigning appropriate sex for most infants with CAH. Genetic males have normal male genitalia and gonads and simply need hormone replacement. Most virilized females are assigned and raised as girls even if their genitalia are ambiguous or look more male than female. They have normal ovaries and uterus and potential fertility with hormone replacement and surgery. However, the dilemmas surrounding sex assignment of the most severely virilized XX infants have helped shape our understanding of gender identity and sexual orientation, and continue to be a subject of debate. Until the 1950s, some virilized XX infants were assigned and raised as girls, and some as boys. Most developed gender identities congruent with their sex of rearing. In a few cases of male rearing, a sex reassignment was attempted in mid-childhood when newly discovered karyotyping revealed female chromosomes. These reassignments were rarely successful, leading John Money and other influential ...

In Idaho, two bills attempting to roll back civil rights for the states transgender community are headed to the governors desk. Advocates urge him to veto both, but with the news consumed by coronavirus, will their pleas be heard?. Theres no denying it: coronavirus has got us all messed up. Whether were worried about friends, family, and ourselves coming down with the disease or panicking over the devastating effect social distancing-related closures are having on the economy, its hard to shake it from our minds and pay attention to, really, anything else.. But that doesnt mean that people with anti-LGBTQ agendas are ceasing in their efforts to roll back our rights around the nation. And if you needed proof of that, look no further than what happened in Idaho late last week, as the states legislature approved two bills that, if passed, will have a seriously negative effect on transgender people living in that state.. The first bill, the Fairness In Womens Sports Act, seeks to ensure that ...

There is strong evidence of sex differences in mental rotation tasks. Transsexualism is an extreme gender identity disorder in which individuals seek cross-gender treatment to change their sex. The aim of our study was to investigate if male-to-female (MF) and female-to-male (FM) transsexuals receiving cross-sex hormonal treatment have different patterns of cortical activation during a three-dimensional (3D) mental rotation task. An fMRI study was performed using a 3-T scan in a sample of 18 MF and 19 FM under chronic cross-sex hormonal treatment. Twenty-three males and 19 females served as controls. The general pattern of cerebral activation seen while visualizing the rotated and non-rotated figures was similar for all four groups showing strong occipito-parieto-frontal brain activation. However, compared to control males, the activation of MF transsexuals during the task was lower in the superior parietal lobe. Compared to control females, MF transsexuals showed higher activation in orbital ...

The Story Of A Square Pegged Feminist | A Practical Wedding
When she replied that she loved how the email went from a rant about a sexist idiot to recipes, I told her, Thats just the kind of feminist I am. :). But what kind is that? What type of feminist am I? While I self-identify as a feminist, a great many people I know do not consider me to be one. In a world full of round holes, I appear to be the square peg.. All of us are more than a single story. Feminism is more than a single story. It is the thousands of stories of women who stood up in their own ways in the past. It is the stories of the thousands of women standing now. And it is the stories of the thousands of our daughters, and sons, who will stand in the future. Trying to make all feminism fit a single story, a single shaped hole for all the different pegs, will never tell the whole story.. What story of feminism do I tell? Where do I fit? What type of feminist am I?. Im the type of feminist who has never burned a bra (not many feminists have actually) and doesnt hate men (why do so ...

Skoptic syndrome - Wikipedia
Skoptic syndrome is a condition in which a person is preoccupied with or engages in genital self-mutilation, such as castration, penectomy or clitoridectomy. The definition of skoptic syndrome is a gender dysphoria found under the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) IV section 302.6: Gender Identity Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. Skoptic syndrome can sometimes be motivated by intense sexual guilt, in which the genitals become identified as the source of the guilt-inducing sexual desire. This leads to desire for removal of or damage to the genitals. There is also evidence that voluntary castration is used in modern societies for reasons such as control of libido, body modification and, in some cases of extreme sexual masochism, for purposes of sexual excitement (see paraphilia and apotemnophilia). The body dysmorphic disorder or dysmorphophobia characterized by desire to be a eunuch is called skoptic syndrome, named after the Skoptzy sect. However it is not in DSM-5, ...
Feminist Theory - Page 5 - News Info Guide Library
By Alison M Jaggar. A few humans think that feminist ethics is little greater than a sequence of dogmatic positions on concerns comparable to abortion rights, pornography, and affirmative action. This cartoon was once by no means actual, yet Alison Jaggars dwelling with Contradictions is the 1st ebook to illustrate simply how wealthy and intricate feminist ethics has turn into. starting with the modest assumption that feminism calls for an exam of ethical concerns with a dedication to finishing womens subordination, this anthology exhibits that you can still not divide social matters into those who are feminist and those who are not.Living with Contradictions does deal with some of the often feminist matters. however it additionally comprises concerns no longer often famous as gendered, similar to militarism, environmentalism, and the remedy of animals, demonstrating the worth of a feminist point of view in those instances. And, faraway from reflecting any monolithic orthodoxy, the booklet ...
Sexual and Ethnic Identity Development Among Gay-Bisexual-Questioning by Omar B. Jamil, Gary W. Harper et al.
Identity development is a critical task of adolescence and occurs across multiple areas of self-identification. Although research on the identity development process among individuals who are ethnic and sexual minorities has been conducted for individuals who have 1 minority status or the other, few studies have examined these processes in people who are both ethnic and sexual minorities. In this qualitative study, the authors examined the dual identity development processes related to ethnic and sexual identity among gay-bisexual-questioning (GBQ) Latino and African American male adolescents. Results indicated that the processes associated with the development of sexual orientation and ethnic identity occur concurrently. However, the actual processes involved with the development of each identity not only differed, but seemed to be independent of each other because neither process was referenced in the development of the other. Overall, the process of ethnic identity development involved the process of
The Faculty Lounge: CFP: Feminist Judgment Project India - Nov. 5, 2017 Deadline
From colleagues at Jindal Global Law School in India, this Call for Participation:. The Feminist Judgment Project India imagines the possibilities of collaborative writing of alternate judgments for several Indian cases across a broad range of legal issues having a significant bearing on women. At the heart of the project are a set of basic questions-can one formulate a distinctively feminist judicial practice? If so, what are the limitations to that approach? In what manner does this approach differ from the common law approach the court takes? Neither the practice of academic rewriting of judgment is new, nor is specifically the practice of feminist rewriting of judgments. The Feminist Judgment Project India borrows from the sister projects in Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and USA where feminist academics, lawyers, activists have written alternate versions of judgments originally authored by judges. * * *. The India project too will serve as a shadow judgment writing project by ...

In the last three decades, gender has become an indispensable category of analysis in the study of slavery in the Americas, illuminating both the day-to-day lives of enslaved and enslaving peoples and ideas about race and slavery. While studying gender means much more than studying women, the literature on enslaved women is especially influential, in part because of gender analysiss origins in womens history and in part because of womens central importance in slavery: women and ideas about them shaped slavery from beginning to end.. This article discusses the origins of slavery, the gendered division of slave labour, reproduction in slavery, sexuality, enslaved families, black femininity and masculinity, mastery and white gender identities, and politics. Sex Essentialism: TERF patriarchy and smelly vaginas - The TransAdvocate
When Jeffreys spoke at the Andrea Dworkin Commemorative Conference, she credited Dworkin as being her inspiration. Moreover, she spoke at lengths about Dworkins pioneering book, Woman Hating while denigrating the bodies of trans women. During her entire presentation, Jeffreys never once noted that - in the very book Jeffreys cited as being the inspiration for her activism - Dworkin advocated that trans people be given free access to trans medical care or that Dworkin viewed gender identity research as being rightly subversive to patriarchy and the very sex essentialism Jeffreys promotes.[2] Even more telling of the ideological split between TERFs who call themselves Radical Feminists and the actual Radical Feminist movement is the reality that TERFs did 1/3 of the work for a governmental study which effectively ended the coverage of trans medical care under both public and private insurance. In what way does cutting off trans medical access, demonstrably resulting in the death and suffering of ...
Does Sexual Orientation Play a Role in Skin Cancer Risk?
WEDNESDAY, Feb. 19, 2020 (HealthDay News) -- Gay and bisexual men in the United States have higher skin cancer rates than heterosexual men, while bisexual women have lower rates than heterosexual women, according to a new study.. Researchers from Brigham and Womens Hospital in Boston analyzed data culled from national surveys conducted from 2014 to 2018 and found that skin cancer rates were 8.1% among gay men, 8.4% among bisexual men, and 6.7% among heterosexual men.. Rates were 4.7% among bisexual women, 5.9% among lesbian women, and 6.6% among heterosexual women. The difference in rates between lesbian women and heterosexual women was not statistically significant, according to the researchers.. Awareness, laws help transgender youths flourish - SFGate
When Catherine Lee used to take her young child to the grocery store, other shoppers would often comment, Oh, what a nice son you have, helping you pack the groceries. Lee, a 46-year-old therapist from Manteca (San Joaquin County), is part of a growing group of parents navigating - sometimes at crash-course speed - the complexities of raising a transgender child. More transgender people are coming out as children, a sea change that doctors and therapists say could be caused by increasing awareness among parents and advancements in medical options for transgender children. [...] as their ranks grow, so does the push for laws such as AB1266, signed last week by Gov. Jerry Brown, to allow transgender youth to use school sites and join groups associated with their gender identity. Parental concernsThe new law has drawn ire from parents worried that it could be abused by students who pretend to be transgender in order to catch a peep at the opposite gender in restrooms or open showers. Caring for the Transgender Patient | Annals of Internal Medicine | American College of Physicians
The term transgender refers to persons whose gender identity is different from that recorded at birth. Similar to other marginalized populations, transgender patients commonly experience discrimination in the health care setting, and they may not have access to medical professionals who can provide competent care. In addition to primary medical and preventive health care, transgender patients need access to gender-affirming interventions, including hormone therapy and surgeries. In 2017, the Endocrine Society updated its clinical practice guideline for the care of transgender persons on the basis of the best available evidence from systematic reviews and individual studies. Among its general requirements for adolescents and recommendations for adults were the following: Involvement of a mental health professional who is knowledgeable about the diagnostic criteria for gender dysphoria and criteria for gender-affirming treatment, has training and experience in assessing psychopathology, and is ...
Transgender People Protest ENDA Outcome | GO Magazine
Normally a solemn occasion to memorialize individuals killed because of anti-transgender hatred or prejudice, this year the National Transgender Day of Remembrance assumed an unusually acrimonious air on Nov 20. That day, transgender advocates and their allies in leading gay rights organizations protested the exclusion of gender identity protections from the Employee Non-Discrimination passed by the U.S. House of Representatives earlier in the month. Many directed anger at the Human Rights Campaign, the paramount LGBT rights organization, for its refusal to oppose the stripped down version of ENDA. Congressional leaders like openly gay Representative Barney Frank (D-MA) had argued that the removal of transgender protections was necessary in order to secure the votes of more cautious colleagues.. In New York City, some 25 people gathered outside the historic Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street, where in 1969 a transgender individual threw the first punch that helped to launch gay liberation. ...
How Many Adults Identify as Transgender in the US? | beSpacific
The Williams Institute, June 2016: Population-based surveys, meaning those that are designed to allow researchers to generalize findings to the population, rarely ask questions to identify transgender people and, therefore, cannot be used to provide estimates of the size and characteristics of the transgender population. The federal government administers several large, national population-based surveys like the American Community Survey and the National Health Interview Survey that track the demographics, health and well-being of U.S. residents. Unfortunately, these surveys do not currently measure gender identity. However, there are several state-level population-based surveys that identify transgender respondents and can be used to estimate the size and characteristics of the transgender population. In 2011, Gary J. Gates utilized two state-level population-based surveys that collected data from 2003 in California and from 2007 and 2009 in Massachusetts to estimate that 0.3% of the U.S. ...

The number of trans people is difficult to ascertain, but one estimate suggests that about 700,000 Americans are transgender. Insisting on a strict genitially-based sex (ignoring gender identity and the range of gender expression) in human beings reduces transgender people to invisibility and contributes to their abuse. Theological reflection on transgender peoples experience is in its infancy; until recently, trans people have been subsumed into the LGBTQ... litany, though the actual issues that face trans people are clearly different than those of lesbian, gay and bisexual people.. Queer is an umbrella term for members of sexual minorities, including both people who are not heterosexual and people who are not cisgender. It is now generally taken as a term of pride rather than opprobrium.. Definitions in hand, lets return to Benedict and Francis fears:. 1. How shall we think about the relationship of sex and gender? It is important to understand that doctors here are not curing a disease. They are actually engaged in the political and social shaping of masculine and feminine behavior. Several facts bear out this contention. Here especially, I note the role of the so-called gender identity clinics and private therapists who foster and reinforce stereotyped behavior. Persons wishing to change sex come to these clinics or go to individual therapists to receive counseling and ultimately to be referred for treatment and surgery. It is a primary requirement of these centers that men who wish to be transsexed must prove that they can pass as true women in order to qualify for treatment and surgery. Passing requirements evaluate everything from an individuals feminine dress, to feminine body language, to so-called feminine positions in intercourse. Most clinics require candidates for surgery to live out opposite sex-roles and rigidly defined stereotypical behavior for periods of six months to two years. Thus ...

Malaysia as a study of increasing violence against transwomen in APAC - Outrage Magazine
However, it is important to understand that sex work is also a form of work, and the criminalization of sex work further contributes to violence against sex workers, creates barriers for sex workers to exercise their rights to due process and remedies, and disallow work with dignity. We further condemn the shaming of sex workers in the media for making a living. While it is a known fact that arrests increase at the end of the year, we completely deplore the use of sex work to shame and stereotype transgender women. The reality is that transgender persons face adverse challenges and barriers to access education and employment opportunities. Often, transgender persons face extreme hostility in schools and educational institutions, from gender binary policies that disallow children who are transgender or gender non-conforming to express their authentic gender identity and true self, to bullying and violence from peers and administrators. This often results in transgender students performing poorly ...
Gender Diversity Dynamics in Humanitarian Negotiations: The International Committee of the Red Cross as a Case Study on the...
Negotiations for access are crucial for the success of humanitarian operations. They also occur in contexts of armed conflict and violence that typically entrench gender identities. Building on the vast research showing that gender affects the conduct and outcome of negotiations, this paper explores gender dynamics in a humanitarian setting. After outlining its methodology and surveying the relevant literature, this paper sketches out the ways 21 practitioners at the International Committee of the Red Cross see gender dynamics affecting their work in the field. These interviews support previous findings on men and womens diverging conceptions of genders impact and relevance, as well as on the cross-cultural consistency of gender dynamics in war. In a context where, unlike in many corporate settings, womens work as humanitarian actors is congruent with prescriptive gender stereotypes, this study shows that they can be perceived as more legitimate because they are thought of as selfless ...
Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminism: What Exactly Is It, And Why Does It Hurt?
The verbiage often used by the TERF groups are problematic for the transgender community. Not because of the way in which they deliberately seek to dehumanize and denigrate trans women, but because of the reliance of tropes that medical science have for many years proven wrong, that feed into misunderstandings people may have regarding what being transgender truly means. In their words. a transgender woman is a nothing but a self loathing gay man and they claim that trans women are gay men who, rather than stand up and come out as gay, would rather hide by being transgender, as if it makes things more palatable for friends, family and co-workers. The reverse is unfortunately the truth.. We are often portrayed as fetishists by hate groups such as Gender Identity Watch - the Man in a Dress trope is widely applied to us, and that transgender men are still women. TERFs hold the belief that if someone is born with a penis, they are male for life, and a vagina, female for life. The quandary to ...
19 Times Breitbart Cited A Discredited Hate Group To Spread Harmful Lies About Pediatric Medical Care
This past August, after the Pope once again decried the introduction of gender theory into schools, LGBT activists reacted strongly, accusing Francis of butting in where he doesnt belong.. Francis DeBernardo, the executive director of New Ways Ministry, a Catholic LGBT advocacy group, said that the Pope was ignorant about gender issues.. Nobody chooses a gender identity. They discover it, he said. Transgender people come to know themselves in a process is [sic] similar to the way that lesbian, gay, and bisexual people discover their sexual orientation.. DeBernardo added that most reputable scientific experts say that allowing children to transition in youth is both a physically and psychologically healthy thing for them to do in most cases.. That same month, however, the American College of Pediatricians issued a position paper warning that gender ideology is harmful to children.. Failing to identify with ones biological sex signals a psychological disorder that must be dealt with, not ...
Propaganda, Pollution and Gender Dysphoria - United Families International
by Diane Robertson. One does not have to look very far to realize that there has been a global increase in gender dysphoria in children. In recent years, parents have been caught publicly parading their childs transformation from one gender to another. Last year, the UK published statistics that noted a more than ten-fold increase in children being referred for treatment for gender identity issues. This month, the National Geographic high-lighted the story of a 9-year boy who has been living as a girl.. Undoubtedly, there are many causes for the increase. Its been a generation or two since parents believed they could teach their girls to be girls and their boys to be boys. Today, pediatricians and parents are taught to be hypersensitive about toddlers changing ideas on gender. Schools across the western world are teaching children that gender is a choice. Universities and colleges have asked students to choose a pronoun to match their identity. Some cities are punishing people who refuse to ...

The purpose of this article is to articulate the need for a strong commitment to transgender inclusion in sport and physical activity, including in locker rooms and team spaces. The authors begin by defining key constructs and offering a theoretical overview of stigma toward transgender individuals. The focus then shifts to the changing opportunities for transgender athletes at all participation levels, case law and rulings germane to the topic, and the psychological, physical, and social outcomes associated with inclusion and exclusion. Next, the authors present frequently voiced concerns about transgender inclusion, with an emphasis on safety and privacy. Given the review, the authors present the case for inclusive locker rooms, which permit access by transgender athletes to facilities that correspond to their gender identity. The authors conclude with the official AKA position statement-The American Kinesiology Association endorses inclusive locker rooms, by which we mean sex-segregated ...

Research suggests an overrepresentation of autism spectrum diagnoses (ASD) or autistic traits in gender diverse samples, particularly in children and adolescents. Using data from the GENTLE (GENder identiTy Longitudinal Experience) Cohort at the Gender Diversity Service at the Perth Children’s Hospital, the primary objective of the current retrospective chart review was to explore psychopathology and quality of life in gender diverse children with co-occurring ASD relative to gender diverse children and adolescents without ASD. The Social Responsiveness Scale (Second Edition) generates a Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) score indicating a likely clinical ASD diagnosis, which was used to partition participants into two groups (indicated ASD, n = 19) (no ASD indicated, n = 60). Indicated ASD was far higher than would be expected compared to general population estimates. Indicated ASD on the Social Responsiveness Scale 2 (SRS 2) was also a significant predictor of

Congratulations to Netta Barzilai and Israel!. Remember when Israels victory seemed inevitable before rehearsals began and then it didnt because Cyprus showed up with fire and memes and stuff? Then it looked like Austria was going to romp to victory and somehow Sweden was in contention too, and then Sweden got crap points from the televote and Austria got okay votes from the televote and all of a sudden Israels victory looked inevitable again because Netta got more points than Eleni in the jury vote?. Its like the past two weeks didnt even happen!. Our overwhelming reaction to the outcome was…relief. We love that Netta challenges and helps us move our conceptions of femininity forward, not unlike the way Conchita did for gender identity. So we have to admit that it would not have sat well with us if Cyprus had won. In any other year, we probably would have been fine with it. But this year, our top two contenders shaped up to be a unique artist who defied female stereotypes and a sex ...
Transgender rights in the United States - Wikipedia
In 2000, a court ruling in Connecticut determined that conventional sex discrimination laws protected transgender persons. However, in 2011, to clarify and codify this ruling, a separate law was passed defining legal anti-discrimination protections on the basis of gender identity.[75]. On October 16, 1976, a Supreme Court rejected plaintiffs appeal in sex discrimination case involving termination from teaching job after sex-change operation from a New Jersey school system.[76]. Carroll v. Talman Fed. Savs. & Loan Association, 604 F.2d 1028, 1032 (7th Cir.) 1979, held that dress codes are permissible. So long as [dress codes] and some justification in commonly accepted social norms and are reasonably related to the employers business needs, such regulations are not necessarily violations of Title VII even though the standards prescribed differ somewhat for men and women.[77]. In Ulane v. Eastern Airlines Inc. 742 F.2d 1081 (7th Cir. 1984) Karen Ulane, a pilot who was assigned male at birth, ...

p,To protect the right of gender self-determination, we should remove sex markers from birth certificates before they become the basis for sex discrimination. Consider North Carolinas 2016 bathroom bill, which required people to use the restroom that matched their biological sex - the one noted on a birth certificate - in public schools and state agencies. Defenders of this and other bathroom bills cite privacy and safety concerns that are tied to the false stereotype that transgender women are really heterosexual men who don dresses to enter female-designated public restrooms, and sexually assault girls and women.
